I have to say that I cannot say enough good things about Scott and John. John came out in the dark and scaled a 25 foot tree to get our 6 month old kitten out of a tree. It was a weekend. John and his family came to save the day. One more night our kitten wouldn't have survived. Don't hesitate to use Tree Shepherds. Very responsive. Supe fast. Uses all types of communication. There is a reason why they have 5 Stars!r

This is the 4th time I have used Tree Shepherds trim or remove trees. They are always professional, courteous and punctual. They have done work at my home and also at the home of my elderly parents. I am very careful about vetting anyone who will be at their home for fear they will be taken advantage of. Tree Shepherds did exactly what had been discussed and estimated ahead of time when we scheduled the appointment. We are very happy with their service and will use them again.

Everyone was great to work with from the Office Staff to the actual crews. They showed up on time and worked hard until completion. The crews are very nice/respectable young men who care as much about your property as you do. Hoping we don't need them again, but I know who to call if we do! Thanks Tree Shepherds!!!

This is the third time I've used this company and each time they have provided excellent service. They quickly and efficiently complete the work and do cleanup after. They are one of the few tree service companies that when they provide an quote, they do exactly what is quoted without attempting to add additional costs when the work is completed. I would use them again and would highly recommend them.

It took a crew of three about four and half hours to do an outstanding job. When I called Scott we made an appointment for an on-site visit. Because of the age and condition of the tree I initially wanted the tree cut down and the stump ground down, which would have put the cost of the total project to around $1,800. However, because he is a Certified Arborist, he determined that by cutting out just the dead limbs and branches, and by selectively pruning the remaining live branches and reshaping the tree, that we could enjoy its expansive shade and lower electric bills for another five years. That would bring the project cost down to around $800. Who said it would cost more to hire a Certified Arborist versus just a shade tree mechanic (play on words intended)? Clayton Geer was the tree climber of the crew who did an excellent job of cutting out the dead wood and selectively pruning/thinning-out the live branches without compromising any beneficial shade. The pruning allowed the remaining branches to get more of the tree?s nourishment. To avoid any communication problems/misunderstandings between myself and the estimator (who is Scott, the owner), and the estimator and his crew, I had Clayton, the project Foreman, sign a copy of my Work Instructions (project details) after we walked over the work site. Sean did an excellent job of cutting the bushy trees and the bushes as close to the ground as possible. He was the primary ?chipper? of the crew. Aaron helped whenever and wherever he was needed, being the primary hauler of the dead wood to the chipper. They all did a totally adequate job in cleaning up the remaining debris in the yard, as well as in the street where the chipping was done. I thank Clayton, Sean, and Aaron for a job well done. The selection process began when I e-mailed the owner, Scott Geer, an invitation to bid on the project, which I described in detail, along with several digital pictures. The pictures showed the Maple tree, the smaller bushy trees, and the bushes. That was all the information that was needed for the several tree service companies I contacted, to submit a preliminary e-mail bid without having to first visit the house to see and hear what needed to be done. (I imported the pictures from my digital camera into the Kodak EasyShare software that I had on my laptop. After composing the text of the project details into Google Chrome e-mail format, I clicked and dragged the pictures from Kodak EasyShare into the Google e-mail format.) Only after I got their e-mail replies, did I call them and give them my phone number; if they weren't interested enough, and technically capable enough, to first commit to a documented e-mail reply to my request for a bid, then they were too loosey-goosey for my business (think fly-by-night outfits, or bureaucratic companies that are too big/arrogant for good customer service at all levels of their departments).
Description of Work: 1. They cut the dead limbs and branches, and pruned and shaped, a 25 years old, 40 foot tall Silver Maple. 2. They cut down three 10 foot tall bushy trees. 3. They removed about 40 linear feet of three foot-high bushes. 4. The limbs, branches, trees, and bushes were put through their chipper and hauled away.

My large ash tree looks so much better in the back from a poor trim in years past. One of Tree Shepherds workers climbed the tall tree and spent a long time climbing all the branches which has never been done for trimming. I watched him cut the branches and noticed the perfect way in cutting. This seems unimportant to many but I know the right way to cut branches is important to keep the tree healthy. That was impressive. I will from now on use a professional arborist to check and trim my trees. I will use the Tree Shepherds again without hesitation. Everything was cleaned up and all branches were mulched after cutting. In the past I would have to call a service to pick up the branches.
Description of Work: I had a large pear tree that needed to be taken out. I also planted many other trees but none were harmed trough this process. Something I was concerned about. Nothing was rushed everything was done carefully in a professional way. I have a large ash tree in the back that had some poor trimming a few years ago with someone else. A large ash tree was trimmed in the front also.

They sent out their certified arborist on a Saturday morning to figure out why my tree died. I had only owned my house for 6 weeks when the tree seemed to die overnight. He told me it was planted wrong, too deep and allowing the roots to grow around the tree and choke it. He also told me my other tree was good, one tree was basically a weed and in a bad spot (I already knew that) and needed to come out. He took out some choking roots in my healthy tree and gave me advise in what to do next. They are set up to take out the trees in October and replace the dead elm with an oak in December. They've been upfront and honest with me. I'll use them from now on for trims and advise.

Tree Sheperds was excellent. Scott responded quickly to my initial request and gave me a quick, professional estimate. He came by to do the estimate and provided much appreciated guidance on how best to trim the trees to get the outcome we were looking for. He is a real professional and know his business. When it was time to do the work, Ethan, Caleb and the team came on time, finished the job in a timely fashion and the work looked great. We had a family of owls in one tree and asked the Tree Sheperd team to be gentle in working around them. They did a great job being sensitive to that situation. Overall, I was very pleased with the work that the Tree Sheperds team did and I highly recommend them and would use them again.

After 30 years of trimming the trees ourselves or using 4 other tree services - these guys were the best ever!!! Starting with Scott, he is a certified arborist and his suggestions for accomplishing my goals while making sure the trees were still happy were exceptionally well founded and creative. He is the first person who has looked at the trees and didn't try to sell me a bunch of other stuff. The crew of Caleb, Clayton and Colby were 30 minutes late but they called to explain and I have no problem with that. They were extremely professional and safety conscious, including staying hydrated. They all spoke enlgish so communciations was easy and questions were asked to make sure they were cutting what I wanted cut. They worked without break and finished on time. They also did my neighbors and she is also very happy. I hired them to do another job at another location. I'm so confident in their service, i won't even be on the property.

. 1) When called, promptly came and provided an estimate. When estimate was agreed to, he called to schedule and arrive promptly on the scheduled day to perform the service. 2) Removed a dead tree that was broken off and on the ground, and removed the remaining stump to the ground. Cleaned the area and completely removed all dead wood. 3) Removed 2 low limbs reaching over the driveway and trimmed the tree so it now presents a nice canopy over the driveway. 4) Removed two limbs from a wax myrtle tree that we damaged from winter storms. Trimmed them close to the tree and trimmed so the tree has a very nice appearance. Cleaned the area thoroughly after trimming. The team arrived as committed, did a great and efficient job at a very reasonable price. I would definitely call this company again for any tree service I might need.

Great service! I contacted them via reviews from Angie's List. They were my second estimate. Prompt reply and immediate response to coming out and giving me a recommendation on removal of a tree that had been put so close to my house that it was causing damage. I liked the communication, the estimate, and the company, and went with their services. A two man crew was late showing up to the appointment, but communicated it to me immediately and gave me options ahead of time, so it was not a problem. As one part of the tree was coming down, it did hit the corner part of a roof, but all seems to be fine. Company and workers were great. I would recommend using them! I plan on using them again to come back and have the stump of that tree ground up.

That was very good. They were friendly and informative. The consultation was pretty quick, within a couple of days. Then the actual work happened within a couple of weeks. They put it on the schedule. I didn't even have to be in the house. They just did it. When I first called him it was a Saturday. I was impressed that they picked up the phone and set up the appointment right then.
Description of Work: I have used Tree Shepherds. They came to see the issue, which was the tree was getting too big on the sidewalk and I had a city violation. He looked carefully to see what our options were to cut it properly, that it would look nice. Then they came back and did it.

We have an 8 year old Bradford Pear tree in our front yard with stunted growth we figured was due to its being planted too deeply. (The trunk looked like a telephone pole coming out of the ground with no visible roots anywhere.) We thought a root flare excavation might give this tree a better shot at life. But because Bradford Pears do not have a long life (maybe 20-25 years), when I called Tree Shepherds, Scott was right to question if we wanted to sink money into a tree with a limited life span and was satisfied with my answer that I'd be happy to get another 10 years out of this tree. Based on his $125.00 hourly fee, I asked how long it would take and he thought approximately 1-2 hours. I wasn't in a rush so it was fine when he said it might be a couple of weeks before he could schedule this in. A few weeks later I was called with an opening and scheduled service with a time slot. The person came about 45 minutes later than I expected (hence the B for promptness). We looked at a crepe myrtle first that, time pending, might also need an excavation and I quickly showed him a peach tree my husband and I had just planted ourselves just to make sure we didn't screw it up. When Caleb looked at the Bradford, he also immediately questioned if I really wanted to spend the money on a sickly looking, relatively inexpensive tree with a fairly limited life span. I told him to proceed. Almost immediately it was clear that the service that originally planted this tree never removed the rope, wire, or burlap sack around the root ball not to mention it was planted way too deep. At an hour into it, Caleb still could not find the root flare but discovered roots wrapped around the trunk, growing deep and cutting into the trunk. I did not want to exceed 2 hours on the tree so we looked at him doing the best he could in the limited amount of time. Towards the end of 2 hours, the main roots were still not found (way, way, way too deep requiring another 2 hours of time to properly excavate) but he managed to get rid of all the smaller roots leaving just two of the larger secondary (not sure of term) roots exposed. I had curved landscaping bricks that Caleb was able to use to shore up the well dug around the tree. Caleb was not an actual arborist and eventually was able to reach Scott or another arborist for advise saying he had never seen root flare as bad as our tree. We all mutually agreed to cap the service at 2 hours and see if the tree shows improvement in the next year. And, if so, I might want to consider a second excavation next year. He gave me advise on further care and watering for the tree. I do remain optimistic that whatever root flare excavation was done will make a big difference but, if not, it's unlikely we'll spend more money trying to salvage this particular tree.

They did a really great job and worked very hard. They were very professional and knowledgeable about their work. It was a big job and two of them were here at least 5 hours and never stopped. They had the proper equipment and did an excellent job of cleaning up as well. I would highly recommend and definitely would use again.
Description of Work: Arborist (owner) came to look at our 2 oak trees. The trees are good size and I was concerned about erosion and root exposure. He looked at the roots that had surfaced and assessed the overall condition of the trees and at my request gave us a bid for pruning. His fee to come out (diagnosis fee) was $95. The cost to do the pruning was $800 plus tax. It took about 2 weeks to get on their schedule.
