Sealant specialists did a great job. The fence has not looked this good in years. They covered and protected the pool and equipment, compressors, wrought iron fencing, brick and landscaping. They are my new "Go to" fence staining company.
Description of Work: Chemical cleaning and staining of a clear cedar privacy fence and three gates.

After an extensive survey of my property and discussion of my needs, the estimator said he would get back with me with the quote. After a couple of weeks of not hearing back from them, I called their office. They had the estimator call me back who said he needed to find the notes from his survey and he would contact me again. After another week or two of no communication, I called their office again. This time someone called me back and left a message that they do not service Fort Worth. I called the number back and asked why they would waste my time and delay my needed repairs if they obviously knew that I was in Fort Worth. If they do not service this area, why would they drive here for the survey?
Description of Work: I received a discount card in the mail from Sealant Specialists(aka Dallas Stain) and called them up for an estimate to stain two arbors, seal a tile patio, and repair my wood fence. I had to take off time from work to meet the estimator at my home.

The quote given to us was 5 times the other two quotes we received - 5 times! We thought we would get three quotes for the service - a very simple deck staining/sealing job - no rails - just a flat extension about 350 sq feet. When he told me $800, I thought he was kidding. He said the cost of materials alone would exceed $300! We feel he was trying to gouge us due to the neighborhood we reside in. We chose to use another Angies List listed company - who is charging $150 and did an outstanding job last year painting our house. Do not waste your time contacting this company.

The owner and sales person were great during the estimating process. They were responsive and courteous. The sales guy was a little pushy, though, calling us over and over to get a contract. Once we signed the order, things went very wrong. They didn't show up until after 5:00p on the first day, and because they lost that full day of work time, they ultimately did not finish the job on time. The work that was done was lousy. When staining the fence, the workers didn't bother to use a brush to spread stain by hand on the part of the fence that butted up to the house. They just sprayed it, getting stain all over our house and permanently staining our brick and white mortar. For the wooden deck, they applied the stain by hand and it turned out splotchy and uneven. They came back out to do touch up later, but it never looked evenly/well-coated. The sealant used on the concrete and flagstone deck was worn away within a week. They also came back and re-did that work, but the second coat didn't last either and was worn away shortly after. When I called initially to inquire about their service, I was told they are bonded and insured, but according to their profile on Angie's List, they are not. Also, their payment terms are 50% upfront, with the balance due upon completion of the job. However, the owner took it upon himself to process my credit card for the final payment several days before the work was actually completed. We would never use them again, and would certainly not recommend them.
Description of Work: Stained the fence, arbor and wooden deck; sealed concrete pool deck, sealed flagstone coping, and replaced deco seal.

I called the contact number for the firm and spoke with an "office manager" (my term) to better understand the services provided by this firm and an approximate price. She indicated that other than in the most general terms (e.g. "we apply a clear sealant") she could not specify the nature or process of the work that could be performed or what options there might be. After expressing my concern that I didn't want to waste my time or the salesman's time in the event that what they provided was not what I was looking for, I proceeded to schedule an appointment for later that week. A salesman called and left a voicemail the day before the appointment, but I was not able to call him back that day. I called him back the following day (the day of the appointment) to confirm that the appointment was still on as scheduled, but his voicemail was full. He called me back within the hour to arrange an appointment; note that I thought I already had an appointment scheduled. He was very flexible and responsive and was able to come out approximately 45 minutes later. He arrived promptly at the new time. Upon arrival, the salesman examined my pool deck and determined that in addition to the need for a coat of sealant, the deco-seal was seriously degraded in many places and needed to be replaced. He also reviewed the existing wooden expansion joints and (like me) noticed that several of them were rotten. He explained that his firm did not offer to replace expansion joints with new wood, and instead would only replace them with additional deco-seal. I explained that I would prefer his estimate include as much granularity as possible-- to separate the costs for the sealing of the aggregate deck itself, the replacement of the deco-seal around the edge of the pool, and the replacement of the expansion joints with deco-seal. He showed me on his estimating sheet that he could break down the work in up to six different sections so presumably the breakdown of costs I requested was not only possible, but was apparently commonly done. This is when it all went south. Somehow my audacity in even considering not replacing the existing expansion joints while having the deck itself resurfaced was self-evidently stupid and represented "an attitude for no reason." While I did not declare whether I would or would not choose to have all three elements of work performed, I repeated my seemingly simple request that estimates for each element be provided. This was apparently more bad attitude on my part. He expressed concern about undertaking a job for such a troublesome customer as myself at all, and concluded the he did not want to do business with me. He then politely left the premises. No estimate was provided. No work was scheduled. I have chosen not to retain this firm, and moreover they have apparently chosen not to work with me either. If you picture in your mind the time-honored notion of "the customer is always right", this salesman embodied the opposite. He clearly has thousands more hours of experience with this sort of work than I do, but he found my very suggestion that I might do some but not all of the work that he thought was required as "attitude" and chose not to provide any kind of estimate at all, much less one including the breakdown I requested. I cannot comment on the price or quality of the work done since he chose not to give me an estimate and no work was actually performed. But given my experience just trying to get an estimate, I don't suspect that such work would have gone well had either party chosen to proceed.

Received estimate from sales person. Agreed to have them do the job. Did not show upon the day scheduled to begin the job nor did they call. Estimate included additional work that they denied to perform and claimed that this was not part of the bid despite the fact the written and signed bid included the additional work to be performed. Both sales person and owner were very combative and inconsiderate while discussing the additional work that the sales person agreed to perform. The work they did perform was of a B- quality. Garage staining looks good. Stain did seep from doors on to the concrete.
