The company's quality may still be excellent for all I know; they did a very good job on my mother's tile roof in about 2006. That's why I called them first for an estimate on my roof for repairs and replacement. Figured that someone whom I had already hired for an expensive roof would be more interested in doing repairs and then maybe a full replacement in a few years. Bottom line: It took him 3 weeks before he gave me either an estimate or told me that he could not repair the roof. WORST thing is -- which could have cost me $50,000 or more: he told me flat out on day of his visit that my roof didn't have hail damage, which meant that insurance would not cover any part of a new roof. (The fact that it took 3 weeks to get an estimate in late Nov./early Dec. wasn't an issue, but he could have told me up-front that he could not (or more likely, would not) repair the roof.) I'm VERY grateful that circumstances led to me getting a second opinion. My handyman told me he and his cousin, a roofer, could repair the 3 bad spots, and so I proceeded to cancel the appointment with a second roofing company, since I didn't want to pay for an expensive metal roof this year. Due to changes in insurance regulations, the owner of that 2nd company strongly advised me to let him come out to do an estimate anyway and document the current condition of the roof, even if I didn't want to replace the whole thing this year. HIS guy crawled all over the roof and came down with photographs demonstrating that I did, indeed, have widespread-enough hail damage that the roof should be covered. The same rep.made a point to be here when my insurance adjuster came out and walked the roof with him. As a consequence -- I'm going to get a new roof through insurance proceeds. I don't know what my new roof is actually going to cost yet, so I can't speak to whether Mr. McKnight's bid was reasonable. However, it could have been disastrous if I had taken his statement at face value that I didn't have hail damage. I would have given him an F for the fact that he was going to cause me not to pursue any insurance help with what will be at least a $50,000 roof. However, I think the quality of his actual roofs are probably still good, and he is known for tile roofs especially. I originally got his name from a real estate colleague, and I suspect he does enough business with contractors and from high-end realtor referrals that he doesn't want to fool with one individual and her insurance company or repairs. But I wish he had told me that upfront.
Description of Work: Came out to check aluminum shingle roof to see if it could be repaired (for a few more years of wear) in the 3 places where there were evidence of leaks, to see if there was hail damage, and to give an estimate to replace the roof with a standing-seam metal roof.

Response from CAPITAL ROOFING CONTRACTORS
[Member Name Removed]: I'm the one who told you to contact your insurance company because it wasn't up to me to decide what percentage was hail damage and what percentage was excessive foot traffic all over your metal roof that looked like a 500 lb. gorilla jumped up and down on it, and we were waiting to hear back from you on what the insurer said, but we never heard anything back. Somehow you got off page because you initially told me you were in no hurry to do anything to your metal roof. Sincerely, CHARLES KNIGHT.
