I have a $17,000 HVAC unit that was paid for in full upon installation. The unit was installed in May 2022 and is now inoperable as an air conditioner and the heater smells of mold. The unit was broken by Stan’s during the unit being serviced in 2023. After the first service in 2023 I immediately reported that the unit was not working the same as it was prior to the service, I have both an email and texts reflecting the contact. The weather cooled and I was sick and did not have the stamina to continue to pursue. The weather heated back up and the unit was beginning to fail more and more and serviced again. I told Stan’s the unit was not operating properly. The area supervisor told me it is because I am going through menopause, WOW, but I figured the more absurd and demeaning the comment that it would surely mean the unit would be fixed because no one could risk losing their job over such a sexist and unfathomable statement. No, on the hottest day of the year in 2024 the unit entirely failed. The kicker I had to pay a second technician an addition $96.00 to come tell me the unit was broken. This after the area supervisor and service tech had both been to the house and tried to convince me the issue was in my head because I am an older woman. Now to the “repair”, I was quoted $1,400 for labor only because the “parts” are under warranty for 10 years. The repair took a maximum of 4 hours, but pretty sure it was only 3 hours which means between $466 to $350 for labor per hour, this seems exorbitant at best and probably included the price of the part because we know the tech would be lucky to make $50 an hour. The unit worked correctly for about 2 days and began failing again and in two weeks was operating about 10% of the time, as of today it blows air and stays on non-stop and is unable to lower the house a single degree. I left a Yelp review on 8/6/2024 assuming it would generate a contact to rectify the situation, it should not have been an issue for the company to run a report and locate the customer, instead I was told to put in more effort and reach out to Stan’s. Prior to seeing the response on Yelp I reached out to the salesperson, David Renault, on 10/6/2024, I have the email. After no response, I was going to update the Yelp review and saw a message to reach out to Michelle England and I did so on 10/27/2024, I have the email. As of 11/11/2024 the unit remains inoperable and no one from Stan’s has reached out the rectify the situation. The response on Yelp is clearly a decoy to give people the perception that the situation would be rectified which is a blatant deceptive business practice. A top of the line HVAC system that is a little over 2 years old failing directly after being serviced makes it clear that the technician either made a mistake or was not trained properly and caused irreversible damage to the unit. Stan’s has been provided with more than ample opportunity to rectify the situation and has done zero. Charging between $466 to $350 for labor per hour is also absurd at best and clearly a deceptive business practice. To top it off it is clear they gouged during the shortage because the same systems are now coming with $6,000 rebates. They are clearly hiding behind “rebates” as a decoy tactic on price gauging.
