Description of Work: They ultimately did a superb job of replacing a leaky water pipe. My only concern is that the first person who came out said there was no leak - but after he pulled on the pipe and left, the leak became very obvious. Sadly, it was two days and a lot of wet carpet later that they were able to send someone else and the issue was resolved.

Description of Work: The plan was to take advantage of the 3-year plumbing service contract for $49. That amount was to include a water heater flush and inspection and give me a discount on other plumbing work. Other work I wanted done was installation of garbage disposer and fixing a leak at the bathroom sink. The guy who came out said he was concerned about flushing the water heater because the valve was old on the water heater and might need to be replaced (approx. $500) to access the water heater for the flush. Okay. | |Then I asked him about the leak in the bathroom. He needed to cut the water off to take a look at it. When the guy went out to our well to turn off the water, he said that he was concerned about turning the valve out at the well pump and that it might need to be replaced (approx. $500) if he touched it. | |So I settled on having him install the garbage disposer, which ran $150-- even though we provided the garbage disposer. | |Now we have the well folks in to work on the well pump about once a year, and they have never indicated that we need to replace the valve out there-- and they are a very reputable and fair company. Furthermore, I've had the propane folks out to service the water heater in the past year, and they never indicated that we need to replace the valve on the water heater-- and that totally seems like something they would bring to our attention. | |I was left with the impression that Excalibur likes to prey upon your fears that you have might have a serious plumbing problem and then upsell services to you. The $49 deal was a waste of money since I didn't get my water heater flushed, and I can't even imagine what the garbage disposer install would have cost without the "discount" from the deal. | |This experience has taught me to ask more questions before accepting a deal. It would be helpful if more information was offered upfront when a deal is advertised. And it certainly pays to do your due diligence and read other reviews before accepting a deal-- just seeing the number of positive reviews isn't enough; you have to read the less-than-stellar reviews, too.
