Mr. Paez's prep work is outstanding which makes the finished product all the better. His clean up after completion was very good. We are more than pleased and will absolutely use him some more along with some of our relatives. As we kept adding things of course we went over the estimate but feel his charge was well earned and justified.
"It was a pleasure to work for you. Luis"
"It was a pleasure to work for a customer like you who is always nice, respectful and considered. Thank you for allowing us to work for you, Luis."
P.S. This is the second time we used them and were very happy both times.
"It is always great to work for grateful customers. Luis."
"Thank you so much for recognize our hard work. Luis."
"Thank you so much for your kind words. We look forward to working with you again, Luis."
"Thank you. Just for informative purposes: we remove all gutters around your house, fix all rotten trim, cover holes using bondo, prime all fix areas and finally paint all trim around the house."
"Thank so much ma'am. Luis."
The job was completed in 4 days as Mr. Paez stated but the completion was 7 pm on Friday night and he would not return until Monday am to put the furniture back in place. We could use none of our home. The entire house contents looked like they had been stirred and you could only walk around the perimeter of the rooms. The beds were covered with lamps, luggage, and unpacked boxes (we had just moved in). Even the kitchen table was covered. Luckily we had relatives nearby with a guest room for Friday night. On Saturday our son-in-law helped us (couple in their late 60's) move everything back so we could move back into our home on Saturday. It was a grueling task which led to increased pain for several days.
Mr. Paez did come back on Monday am as promised to move our furniture back. Of course, the job was already done. I think the problem was that the work was underestimated from the beginning. There were very dark colors to cover with primer. Then we added the interior doors. The job should have been started on a Monday so the house could have been put back together on Friday. The original estimate should have been higher.
The positive aspects of this very large job are that Mr. Paez was pleasant and easy to work with. His price was fair. The painting skill of all the workmen was good to excellent. Our home looks very nice now. I would use him again if he is not too upset with my frustration over the condition my home was left in for the weekend.
"The only reason I said first $50 for each door and then $75 was because first you asked just for paint the doors (no trim around doors included) but then you want doors and trim around painted. I explained this clearly to you but you prefer to show me like someone who took advantage of the situation. Finally we painted all doors and trim for only $50 each! but anyway you don't care to much about this discount. Not either for the fact that we fix and paint all window sills for...Free! Do you remember? I did that in order to show you what kind of company we are, but you did not noticed. Before we left Friday evening I told you that we are going to put everything back in place but you said NO because the baseboards where wet. I told you we are very careful but you said NO, that anyway you have family who lives close and you can stay there. You asked for us to come back next day to put furniture in place I said sorry we can not Sat or Sun, but we can come back Monday at 8:30 am, and you agree. We where there Monday at 8:30 am just to find out that the furniture was already back in place, so that trip for nothing, You just could sent a email, text or call to say it wasn't necessary to come back to your house. My work was never underestimated, what happened was that some walls where very dry(original building cheap paint and never painted in 7 years) and other ones had dark or really bright colors and need 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of paint! Here again I gave you a very big discount for all the extra work but seems like you did not noticed. Also you asked for several extras for free, like removing all the vents (and putting then back) and removing all the locks in the doors, I can not imagine what would happened if while working in your house something went wrong!, you will give me an "F" and maybe call the police...lol Finally I am with my conscience clean. We did a great honest job in your house...like always."
Luis's crew did good quality painting to two bedrooms, three closets, a pantry, and two doors. While he did leave the crew to their jobs for a while. He returned at the end to walk me through and see that everything was done right.
"Thank you, Just a doubt: if we did a good quality work (in your own words), why you give us a "B" in quality? To me is a mystery."
"Thank you so much for your report. Just to clarify: My workers stop to get lunch every day at 12 pm. If one of them does not have lunch for any reason, he is going to tell me and I will buy food for him. I am 24/7 in contact with them, everyone have cell phones. They will never go hungry or thirsty for any reason, that is very important to me."
"Thank you so much for your prompt review. Luis."
"Thank you so much for recognize our hard work. Luis."
"The reason I left just one worker in your house was because this was a small job: just fix sheet rock and texture around 1 window and paint 1 wall. He is my best worker and I trust him 100%. The only reason he didn't put the blinds back was because the paint was wet on the walls, not because he is lazy or unprofessional He did not put the furniture back in place that afternoon because the next morning we were going to put the blinds back, then clean well (like we always do) and then put back in place the two or three pieces of furniture we moved. The next morning, as soon as I entered your house, I said: Good morning! Everything good? You responded: He didn't put the blinds back! I then explained to you why and you said nothing. Then I went to check the wall my worker fixed and painted, and everything was very good. You followed me the entire time, saying nothing, so I was pretty sure you agreed with me on the quality of the work. Then I went out to the back porch to check that everything was clean, and I saw that the bucket my worker used to paint had some left-over paint, so I asked you where the 1 gallon paint can was so I could return the remaining paint in the can. However, you did not answer me and looked at me angrily. I asked again, and you said: I thought that paint was mine. I explained that I just wanted to return the leftover paint. It is an awful experience to work for a person who is always thinking that we want to cheat or take advantage of them. I won the award Angie's List gives to the top companies in the country every year I have been with them (6 years in a row! 114 A's!), because our work is the best. We are polite, always willing to do the best and make our customers happy. Nothing is going to change that, not even rude or bullying people. Life is great!"
Luis and his crew were professional, courteous, and knowledgeable during all aspects of the work. They were always punctual and took care of our property. They did a quality job in all aspects of the work. We are very pleased with the results and recommend Priceless Painting.
"Thank you so much. Grateful customers are food for our souls."
Luis and his crew are so polite and courteous, and also very punctual. I am a repeat customer: Last year about this time frame, they painted several rooms in my home and did a marvelous job! I knew the quality of Luis' work and didn't hesitate to call him again. I will definitely call him in the future when I need an expert for a paint project!
"Even though it took more work that I expected (1 coat of primer and 2 coats of paint) is always great to work for a customer so nice and grateful like you, Thank you so much, Luis."
"Thank you for your nice report. I am glad you were completely satisfied with the results. Kind Regards, Luis."
Luis came promptly to make the bid. I explained the reason we were having the painting done instead of doing it ourselves was because we wanted the painted cabinet surfaces to be smooth recognizing that some of the oak grain might be in minor relief. He assured us the painted surfaces would be smooth. I asked him if we would be able to replace the door hinges and he said that would be included. I showed him a cabinet door that didn't line up/close properly and asked if he could fix it. He said he would.
His crew showed up promptly. I can no longer remember if he came with the crew or came later. The job took about a week. This may have been a little longer than projected but that was not a big issue for us. Now for our unhappinesses.
In his write-up on Angie's list he says, "I work with my crew of 2, 3 or more people depending on the job." He doesn't. Over this period he was rarely there. He'd drop in for 10 minutes or so each day and leave. It appeared he was running multiple crews and only checking on each occasionally. As issues arose about how things were being done he was never there. His workers were often alone and many spoke little or no English, but I didn't want to deal with workers about how the job was to done anyway. After this happened a couple of times (one the smoothness problem below) I explained to him I was not happy with him never being there when issues arose and thus they could not be corrected before things had gone too far. He said, "Just call me on my cell phone" When the next issue arose I called. The call went into his voice mail. He didn't call back for hours -- too late.
This was a chronic problem.
There were other problems/issues but the most troubling was when I saw they were painting primer on with a roller that was stippling the surfaces (leaving the surface bumpy). This had been done to all the surfaces before he was available to discuss it. When he was finally available the paint was dry, but he said something like 'We'll sand that down. Don't worry the surface will be smooth.' The surfaces never got smooth. Just as I suspected when he said this, the bumps became somewhat subdued but are there today. From a distance you don't notice them but as you get close to the cabinets they're obvious. It's difficult to take a picture that shows how the surfaces look but I've tried and will post this picture.
After what I considered a half-hearted effort he said he couldn't use the new hinges I had bought. He said the door he had looked at before submitting his bid was not made right so he couldn't make it fit. It still won't close. If he had just said at the beginning he couldn't fix it I would have gotten it fixed before he painted. Now, it would have to be repainted and maybe not match.
The job he did isn't awful but isn't what we wanted and expected.
"The job that we do in your house 6 months ago took 4 days no a week. If I wasn't there all the time is because your kitchen is a small one, three people working in that small room will make work worst not better. I left there 2 workers of my entire trust and I was calling them at least twice a day to know how everything was going. Also I was there every morning and evening to leave and pick up them and also to see how everything was going and to talk with you or your wife about the same. I don't have multiple crews, I prefer to keep my company small so we can continue giving the same high quality of work we are well know for. After 6 months I don't remember why I miss the call you said you did to my cell phone, I always respond calls even if at that moment I have my hands full of paint. We paint 1 to 5 cabinets a month and it is the first time I have a complain about the quality of the finish. About the hinges, the day of the estimate I said we could change the hinges for the same price if you give us the same shape and size of the old ones. But the new ones you give us were not the same so I showed you it and you said if would be ok to keep the old ones. If that is a photo of the cabinets we painted you took it with a microscope! I saw you were that kind of special customer that want all perfect and in the way you wanted, so I took even extra precautions and talked to my crew to be special careful with everything. Also when we finish and we were living I asked you and your wife if everything was of your complete satisfaction and you with a big grin shake my hand strong and say: YES Luis! I was expecting a good grade of your part, but now after 6 months I got this report. It is clear to me that for some people nothing is good enough. We are going to just continue giving all we have to each customer that trust in us and give us work. Life is great!"
Today Lois himself noticed the new hard wood floors we installed a day earlier. Naively I thought that this would be a sign of minding that.
Absolutely not. They scratched a new floor in several places with their equipment in the room and the stairs. When I pointed that out to Lois that I was not happy with that and he needed to fix that, the response was that he was here to paint..
He brought some lame black pencil and covered the scratches as if he does not know that there are brown markers for wood.
The problem with them that they do not care about such things. I will not hire them again.
I think these folks are arrogant and do not respect the environment they are working in.
Did I mention that they came to work without a ladder?
"Mrs. You never told me about the bumped door, I didn't know about that. We never scratch your floor in several places, you just show me one tiny spot that I thought it was before we even start working in your house. We painted that room just one worker and me and, like always, we were extremely cautious with everything... in this case the desk and the floors. We take the desk out of the room to avoid any possible damage to it. We LIFT it, never drag it or nothing like that. We protected your new floor with even a double layer of droop cloths! The only reason I asked if you can lend us a ladder was because when I gave you the estimate you said you want painted just the walls and when we were ready to start this last Wednesday you said half of the ceilings too. I wasn't prepared for that, that is the reason I just brought ONE ladder, not two. I mention that, like always, you had to ask for lower price. I said for the ceilings would be $50 more and you insisted "not just 25" ! and we agree in $30 extra, for two coats of paint in that ceilings! Also you gave me the surprise that we will use two different colors, when at the moment to agree in this job you just talk about one color, that should be extra too but I was so naĂŻve that I just agree in that price because I worked in your house 4 times before and I know how you are. The reason you call me again and again to do one room at the time is because you know the quality of my work (106 "A"s now), you are so perfectionist that you just became desperate if anything happened. I have my conscience absolutely calm because, like always, we start and finish this job with the goal of total quality."
