Guy came out to check my still under warranty unit. Made me pay $97 for his visit which I wasn't told over the phone then tried to quote me $350 new Thermostat (no smart technology) $160 for a capacitor (which is covered by warranty) $280 for 2 surge protectors (LOL) $379 to replace my tent cover in attic (one I have now had no damage is works fine) $950 for a UV kit install Tech left my T-Stat rigged to bypass with exposed wires. I doubled checked the status light on the motherboard, which he said was functioning properly, and the manual let me know it was a blown fuse. $4 for a pack of 5 fuses AC running fine now. Literally just tried to scam me and did not even honor their warranty. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

Terrible Experience, Purchased their "Amazing Cool Club" package that provides a heating inspection in the fall and an air conditioning inspection in the spring. We scheduled the air conditioning inspection for June 28. The serviceman began his routine and about 15 minutes into the inspection the house started heating up and the fan on the outside unit stopped turning. At that point he said he was going to charge a service fee to troubleshoot the air conditioner which had been working fine until he started his inspection. We had the impression it was not a coincident that the problem started within mintues of his inspection and asked him to leave. We called another firm who found a "loose wire" on the condenser fan and had our unit running in no time. We fell like we purchased a maintenance checkup that we never received and only got stuck with a repair bill. Be warned!!!

Nick came out to our home and gave us a proposal that beat their competitor. Van, JR and Young were out when promised to install. The workmanship with the installation exceeded what I expected. Very organized, tidy and very professional. The company was concerned about safety also for which I am thankful. I have also spoken with Adina and Natalie who are very courteous, kind and professional.

We have used Doctor Cool and Professor Heat for years, and have always been very happy with their service! they are knowledgeable, friendly, punctual, great communication, and don't mind talking about all your options instead of just pushing you to the higher bill items. We recently had Devon and Jake in to replace the furnaces, and they were able to give us options for addressing my complaint about how hot/cold various rooms were, skewed from rest of the house. They came back to install some dampers and balance our air, they were amazing and we will definitely be using Doctor Cool and Professor Heat for all our HVAC needs still!
Description of Work: we had a bad motor in our builder grade junk furnaces, so we replaced both furnaces instead of repairing it, and they had previously installed the condensors and Trane Clean Effects filtration system, and were able to get them all talking together (so the clean effects filter system only goes on when furnace motor runs, which they couldn't do with the builder units), and also installed some dampers and did air balancing

I highly recommend Dr. Cool & Professor Heat, I used them for several years and have been 100% satisfied. Their A/C technicians are wonderful and extremely knowledgeable. I've found them to be very reasonable and not pushy to sell you something just to make a sale. Jason came out for our regular fall maintenance and found some leaks where the air was escaping into the attic and fixed the problem. He answered all my questions and explained how the unit worked and what might be needed down the road.

Both technicians worked very well together. They took out the old units in no time and our attic is low. Each of the men had certain areas they work on. Plus they helped each other when needed. They raised the outside unit on a cement block and cinder blocks. Locking caps were put on the outside unit.

This company knows customer service!!!!! From the gal that answers the phone to the service worker that shows up at your door, they are top notch. As we wrap up our project with this group, I am pleased to say that we will be switching A/C and heating providers based on our experience with this group. We started with Jimmy who came out and gave us a quote for this work. He is extremely kind and you can tell he cares about what he does. He took the time to go over every single thing with me in detail with no hidden costs. In the middle of this project we had a clogged drain line with pooling water in our attic (separate from the project). These guys came right out and fixed the problem quickly. It wasn't an easy fix but they stuck with it. They were not quick to tell us something had to be replaced. Every person that has come out to work on our project has been professional, polite, on time and knowledgeable. I highly recommend this company!

As the temperature was erratic in our condo, the original of the 3 service calls was focused on replacing the thermostat which was evidently not recording the temperature well (original $425 service call). However, the A/C continued to cool sometimes, and not others which resulted in a second service call shortly thereafter ($89) where no issues could be found. A final service call ($454) occurred a few weeks after that and it was determined that we needed a compressor saver as the real issue was identified as being the compressor's inability to restart after the desired temp had been reached and the A/C had shut down. The service professional was very nice and highly responsive and the office staff was also very helpful. They got the job done, and the A/C does work now. The only area of disappointment is that it required as many trips as it did, which resulted in multiple service charges. All in all, I ended up paying a few hundred more than I probably should have based on the # of times someone had to come out.

I never realized they installed an unmatched condensor unit outside and did not replace the filter dryer when they did so. A year later my a/c went out and they told me I needed a new interior unit. Luckily, I called another a/c company before agreeing to replace the interior. The other a/c company alerted me to the filter dryer issue and said I did not need a new itnerior unit but that it appeared the outside system was mismatched and the filter dryer was never replace when the previous work was done. When I called the owner of Dr Cool, (multiple calls) he denied the filter dryer was not replaced, accused me of lying, and was extremely rude on every phone call. On my continued insistence, they finally removed the filter dryer and brought it back to their shop. Only then after all the abuse did the owner acknowledge they never replaced the filter dryer when they installed the mismatched system which he refused to address. They replaced the filter dryer. I then checked with over 10 a/c contractors in the Houston area and NOT ONE said it was ok to mismatch size of a/c units, especially since the outside was larger than the inside unit. After repeated communications with Dr. Cool about the mismatched system, I gave up trying to force them to replace the mismatch. I know this was exactly what they wanted me to do. I will NEVER do business with this company again.

All went well until at the very end the tech came up with a needed required service of about $2,000. The company had just been out in October for the same service and no indication was ever given that anything was amiss with our system. So we are going to get a 2nd opinion. Overall though it seems to be a fair and reputable company since we started using them 2 years ago.

We want to take this opportunity to thank you for allowing Doctor Cool & Professor Heat to take care of all your air-conditioning and heating needs. As a valued customer we really appreciate your business and we look forward to many years of serving your home comfort needs. We are certainly glad that our technician could be of assistance in finding the leak for you which we usually charge $120 for, but as a valued (Cool Club) customer the technician never charged anything. The reason for this is the leak was found during his visual inspection instead of having to use his electronic leak detector. He also found the blower motor bearings where bad. Our “Quote the price first policy” gave Member the options to look elsewhere rather than just doing the needed repairs and presenting the bill. We appreciate the review as we are always striving for excellence and ways to improve customer service.

Before I purchased the systems, I researched the systems, got several inspections and estimates. They were the most professional and thorough of the contractors (I selected them from Angies List). They completed the installation according to the estimates. The high efficiency units have reduced my AC use significantly. Installation included several work arounds to insure proper duct work, . electrical and proper drainage. When they service the units , they show up on schedule and thorough. Clean up and removal of the old units was good.
Description of Work: I have purchased both of my central AC/heating Systems from DR Cool/Prof Heat in 8/2009 and 6/2011. I also purchased their extended service contract. They service both units twice a year and respond to service calls within 4 hours. I have had several electrical problems that they responded to and charges were minimal. Installation of the new units were resonable with top of the line efficient units (which I researched) . Installation and semi annual servicing are complete, on time and professional.

He was disrespectful of my time. I had an appointment to be at, and when I said I had to go, he almost ran out of my house and slammed the door. He didn't listen to me as the customer as to what I wanted. Instead, he spent a lot of time trying to convince me to buy what he wanted to sell, and I don't appreciate that.

We appreciate the review and feedback. We did not perform service for this member. WE DID A FREE ESTIMATE. There was no work completed. The free estimate was in February 2012 and the review was only posted in late September, early October.Seven and a half months later. Regarding the Trane brand Heat Pump: Our companys tag line (one of many) is "We sell the best and service the rest" A heat pump is a very technically sophisticated, highly engineered product. Our 55 year experience tells us to stick with the most reliable. We never demand our customers to take our recommendations but we feel a responsibility to give them our best when we do our free consultative selling process. Our written records show we gave two different estimated prices for two different recommended Trane models. These include replacing all duct work and moving the equipment from a moldy, smelly closet to the very low overhead attic. One was $11,521.00 and the other was $12,633.00 We did not quote $16,000.00 "There is no right way to do the wrong thing" Another Doctor Cool tag line. I would think the best thing would be to say nothing about other comments.

My air conditioner was not cooling properly and the compressor was cutting off and on every 5 minutes. It would maintain 78 degrees during the daytime. I called Dr Cool, and they agreed to a service call for the next day. The technician found that there was a leak in the drier. The drier needed to be replaced and about two lb of freon should be added to the system. The system would have to be evacuated and refilled. Dr Cool wanted $700, including service call,to do the work. I told him the price was too high and I would find someone else to do the work. I called one company and asked them to replace the leaking drier. They estimated $250 total cost. They came out in two days and did the work very professionally for $258.49. He replaced the leaking drier and added two lb of freon. The air conditioner is working great.

The tech performed a thorough heat check, but was unfamiliar with IQAir whole house filtration system or UV germicidal lamp. After several days of research, they gave me extremely high quotes (greater than 100% over price) for replacement filters and lamp based on their internet search results. I had already located both at much lower prices from both internet and local sources. (I think part of the differential was because they were pricing a replacement UV unit versus just the lamp. Not sure why the filters were so high.) My confidence in their ability to maintain my system was shaken by their lack of knowledge about what are now fairly common system adds-on. I'm looking for a new provider who is up-to-date on HVAC technology. If you have a standard system - they are thorough, prompt and courteous. If you have newer technology - you may want to look for someone else.
Description of Work: They are always able to schedule an appointment quickly and arrive promptly. The tech performed a very thorough heat check, but was unable to replace my whole house air filters (replace every 3 years) or my UV lamp bulb (replace every 2 years). He was unfamiliar with the filters. The shop did not stock replacement filters or lamps... or have suppliers for them. He left with promises to get back to me. [My system was installed by another vendor 3 years ago. That vendor changed ownership/management - and during Summer 11 stopped fulfilling their service preventative maintenance contracts in favor of emergency repair work. That's when I switched to Dr. Cool for PM service.]

We are disappointed that we did not met your expectations. Yes, we had a difficult time locating your filters and UV replacement bulb. We deal with all the major HVAC distributors in Houston and our distributors were not familiar with these products. Just as you did, we located your products through the internet. Since we did not have a relationship with these suppliers, they priced the products at a retail level. We quoted a price that included our standard mark-up, shipping, and a technician delivering and installing the products. There is a cost associated with these services that you are not taking into account in your price comparison. We do not want to lose you as a customer and if you contact us, we will make every effort to rebuild your trust in our company. We really try to be the best HVAC experience available.
