Everything went good. They came out to look at it. They said they had to order it. They came back in two or three days and put it in. They cleaned up after themselves. They completed the project the same day.

If you don't want to get ripped off like I did DO NOT call Masten Air-Conditioning. My A/C went out last week, I find Masten as recommended so I call them. I wish I never did. My problem was obvious, the outside unit seemed to be working but nothing blowing inside, just an eerie hum from the blower motor. What I didn't know that my A/C was made in 1980. Jason Masten comes out and dollar signs must have flashed in his eyes, as he replaces a 5 buck capacitor charges me $95 for it on top of his $89 diagnostic fee on a bill with a quote for a whole new system. When I mention that it sounds like the blower motor needs to be replaced, he tells me that it would cost me $800 + labor and to just get a new unit at that point. Now, most of you are probably thinking: "Why are you complaing, your 37 year old A/C is fixed under $200?" That's not where my problem is... Its that it worked for roughly 4 hours on a Friday night. I've called multiple times without receiving a follow up call. I've called and left voice message and requested Jason (or anyone) to contact me 7/8, called on Monday 7/10 and Tuesday 7/11 leaving voice mail and requests with the lady that answered to have someone have the courtesy to call me back to please give me options, instead of being left in the heat waiting. Nobody called. Had to buy two window units to temporary get by. ONLY after I left a nasty email complaining about how I was treated, did I receive a return call (voice-mail).. at that point it was a little too late and i wasn't going to fall for their crap again. I even requested a partial refund for the over priced capacitor since it didn't fix the problem (I highly doubt they will do the right thing). Ultimately out of a good friend's recommendation i called 1 ALARM HEAT & A/C, I speak to Henry Salazar, (owned and operared by off duty firefighter) on the phone, describe the problem. He comes out replaces the blower motor with bracket, new capacitor, he thoroughly cleans out the inside unit then goes outside checks the the freon levels totally cleans the inside of the outside unit where years worth of dirt caked up the cooling fins. All for $420 including labor and fees. He tells me that other than what he replaced there's nothing else wrong with the AC and that it has at least two maybe three more years because it was very well built and kept. My AC now runs better than I've ever seen it in 8 years that I've lived here it blows more air and it cools down quickly. So if anyone is looking for a very honest man to come out to work on your unit without trying to sell you what you don't need. They are very honest and price is good.

I've used them for years for all types of jobs. I use them for both my home and a rental property. They are very honest. They don't upsell and tell you something is broken if it's not.

Masten came highly recommended by my uncle - a man who worked in engineering and sales for Trane and used many contractors to complete orders he would sell. He commented to me after using Masten at his personal property last month that he wished he had contractors like them when he was at Trane. So I called Masten on Wednesday to schedule a visit to assess an A/C at a new house that the inspector diagnosed as not working and end of life. They were able to schedule me the next day. Matt showed up exactly on time - spent time looking at the unit and in all of about 5 minutes diagnosed the issue and fixed it on the spot. We are looking at replacing the unit because of it's age, but he actually encouraged us to wait a few months to see what the utility bills are and if there are any uncomfortable areas in the house (we have not moved in yet). He could have told me the unit had to be replaced on the spot and I would have taken him for his word. Now I have even more respect for them - Matt is writing up quotes for us based on several levels of upgrade/replacement, but again encouraged us to see where we are for the first couple months because he didn't want to sell us more than we needed. He gave us some best guess estimates while there, all sounded reasonable for the work he was describing. We would definitely recommend them to anyone that is looking for a fair assessment, repair or replacement from a family owned and operated Texas business.

I called Masten this morning and explained my problem -- my unit had suddenly started blowing warm air the night before. They instructed me to turn off the unit and scheduled a service call for a 1pm-3pm window. As promised, the service tech -- Jason Masten called about 30 minutes before he arrived. He diagnosed the problem within just a few minutes and had the repair completed in less than an hour. He also changed the a/c filter and cleaned the vent return screen for no extra charge. That's really just a little thing -- I change my own filters and clean the screen on a regular schedule -- but it was nice of him to do it for me. I asked Jason a lot of questions about replacing the unit, as this is something I plan to do in next few months. He was very informative and answered all my questions in plenty of detail. We currently have a 4-ton unit and told him that we thought we needed a 5-ton unit. This would have been a great opportunity for Jason to sell me on that idea and make some extra bucks (as 5-ton units are going to cost more money) but instead he suggested I stick with the 4-ton, saying he thought it was the appropriate size for our house. Bottom line: I was happy with the service and the price tag. I would definitely use them again and they'll be at the top of my list when the time comes to replace the unit.
