Gabriel Electric never did anything because he never returned any of my calls. I called him in January about the $99 Big Deal for Two Hours of Electrical Labor to see how long I had to use it. I was told 6 months. So I purchased the Big Deal from Angie's List. Last Friday, April 25, I called Gabriel, got his recorded message and left him my name and phone number. No reply. I called him again yesterday, Monday, got the same message and left him my information. No reply. I just tried calling him again, Tuesday, got his same message but was then cut short when I tried to leave him my information again. His machine is probably full. I see that this is happening to several other people who purchased the Big Deal. I also see Gabriel's overall rating is now a C. I want my money back from Angie's List for the Big Deal and then I will ditch this local provider. And I expect a personal response as well as a credit from Angie's List.

After the initial response from their end, they never followed up. We have lost 99$.
Description of Work: Nothing. After we purchased the deal, we received an email requiring some information, which we did. After that, there was no feedback whatsoever, in spite of sending a reminder. We requested a refund but got no reply.

After waiting for a couple weeks without any response, I called again and was able to talk to someone. They asked me to send another email with the information they need to schedule the service. I never did receive any followup from them since then. It has been two months since I first contacted them. This has been a total waste of time. I am requesting for a refund and will usesomeone else who has a good tract record instead.

Terrible. The only response I got from the vendor was a boilerplate response that said that he has more work than he can handle. Great for him, but that doesn't give me any confidence that he will give adequate attention to my job.

Garbiel Electric responded 1/21 via internal email with the message "thank you for purchasing our deal can you give me a little bit of detail of what type of work were looking at to be better prepared . " I replied the same day, 1/21 "Hi - I have a pair of front porch wall-mounted lanterns, an outdoor motion light, and one stair hall lantern to hang." By 2/3 I had not received a reply and wrote them again -- "Good morning, |On Jan 21st I purchased the Angie's List special referenced above, providing requested dates of service, and replied to your inquiry regarding scope of work. Can you inform me if you are able to honor any of the dates requested, this week?". Since February 3rd I have not received any correspondence from Gabriel Electric. I will be requesting a full refund, as their lack of follow-through and lack of professionalism is a direct reflection of their business ethic.

I purchased the $99 "big deal" coupon from Gabriel Electric on January 27th. Since then (today is February 25th) I called at least 10 times (he doesn't answer the phone) left him 3 voice messages, texted once and wrote an e-mail through his website. I never heard back from him and had to hire someone else to do the work that I needed done urgently.

Attempted to schedule appointment. Contacted company by email and had a response asking to give details of the job. I responded. I followed up with several voice messages. I received a text message indicating that Gabriel was in a meeting and would call. I signed up for my requested dates online. On Feb 12, I received a text asking if I was available that day. I was not, but expressed that I would be available on my requested date FEB 13. I did not get a confirmation.

I specifically told him I needed the surge protector because I have had issues with fridge several times. I told him that I wanted him to get an electrical permit from the city. He tried to talk me out of a permit! But I told him that I would pay for it, as I wanted it inspected after it was installed. When his crew showed up to assess my needs, he did not have a permit. I called him to get the permit number, but he said that he did not have it at that time. He said that he was getting in that morning, so I let his crew start work. He replaced the electrical panel that does not include a surge protector. His "Deal" specified a new panel AND surge protection. That is a special wall electrical panel. After the installation and before the inspector arrived, I called him in regards of this and he said I did not need the surge protector and he got mad at me about the permit because I had called the city about the permit on the day of the installation. I was concerned that, though he said that he was getting the permit that morning, by 3:00 he had not applied for the permit & the job was finished. You have to have a permit before all electrical work is started. Then he wanted me to pay for the permit before the job was inspected. I don’t object to paying for the permit, a permit is not always required outside the city limits. I am complaining that he bought a panel that does not have surge protection when a surge protection was stated in the "deal". A lot of houses do not need surge protections. Mine does. The power box on the pole that services my house is very old & explodes during storms causing power surges. My power is out a lot because of these old power company equipment. For him to say that I do not need a surge protection when I have all these problems with surges, fried motherboards and tripping is unfair. I have discussed all these issues with the electrical department of the city of Houston and they seem to understand my request & need for surge protection. I insisted on a permit because I am not an expert and needed to rely on a third party expert to be sure I get what is correct. I do not like it for a contractor to use his knowledge to distort the facts in order not to do a contracted job correctly. When I told Gabriel that my breakers were still tripping after the new panel was installed, he informed me that it was because my garage door opener was old or had a short or was not grounded. The inspector said that the continued tripping indicated that there were too many amps on the breaker and that an amp code needed to be done. This should have been part of the assessment prior to the installation.
Description of Work: I hired him to replace the electrical panel and surge protection.

Response from Gabriel Electric
Hello Ms [member name removed] Ok lets look at the total picture when we showed up to look at the job you purchased of replacing a panel . we noticed that this was a sub panel and was fed by a main panel Both the subpanel and the Main panel are the sam Brand the Old Federal Pacific Type Panel and we noticed that both panels had suffered great overheating we can tell by the deteriation in the breakers and the discoloration in the buss . Now this could be a great contributing factor of why your experiencing these power surges . And this is the main reason why we have this PANEL REPLACING SPECIAL to help out people with old and outdated panels . Like these . So what I suggested was to probably consider changing out the MAIN panel because thats where the power originates from You stated " No dont change the main panel thats not the one I want to xchange out " I stated again I really recommend that you change this Panel Because Its your main Source of Electrical You mention and I recal " Well cross that bridge when we get there I said ok no problem Yes Mam no problem all I can do is give my proffesinal reccomendation Then You said Ok I need a permit. and You agreed to pay for the permit and confirmed that you had no problem paying for permit SO I bought permit out of my pocket money we proceeded to do the job before the permit was processed because it takes time when you buy a permit You decided to call the city of Houston and Tell them Im working with no permit . and I remember you stating that I should be fined for doing this work But not knowing that the permit was in process ok so then you tell me to schedule the inspection for tuesday I mentioned if you had a chance to look at the permit invoice You said NO im not paying that until it passes inspection I said ok no problem So inspection came and we failed because of a very minor Detail we had a 15 amp breaker instaed of a 20 amp veryu easy fix swap out brekers no big deal Now I stated Il fix it and call inspection again On the Surge protection It is not common to put surge protection on a subpanel . A TOTAL HOUSE surege protector is meant to protect the whole HOUSE . If you put a surge protector on the subpanel . Its like putting a bandaid on an open wound Thats why I reccomended to change out the Main Panel because the surge protection is meant to go on the source of the problem right at the first entrance in order to observe the power surge or spike This was part of my reccomendation But you said " and I qote Well cross that bridge when we get there" All i can do is give my proffesinal rcomendation OK Ive been very Proffesional and Polite as you can see my other reviews excellent reviews Ill be glad to Help you out to remedy your problem . but you have to trust and let me do my job im going back to relace that single breaker 20 amp breaker for 15 amp because im a man of my word and I finish jobs to pass inspeccion and i will recall for inspection have agreat day and I wish I could post a picture of the old panel so everybody can see the severity of that panel . that I think needs to be replaced but All I can do is give my proffesional recomendation . once we pass inspeccion can we arrainge for payment for the permit you agreed to purchase I really appreciate it Thank you Thank You and Have a great Day

Had to reschedule many times because of illness on their side. Finally got it done on Dec. 17. When they installed the new panel they also replaced the breakers. They replaced many that were 50 with lower amp because (according to my husband) the 50 were wrong and would have caused over heating. They labeled the panel. They left no mess behind them. HOWEVER?. Somehow they missed connecting the garage electricity. We discovered this on Sunday (Dec. 22). They promised to have an electrician out to fix it on Monday afternoon. He didn't make it. They did get the job done Tuesday morning (Dec 24). All is well now. Scheduling was a problem with them. I was perfectly content having the work done the first of the year. They insisted on getting it done this year?then kept rescheduling. (I think it was 3 times.) They gave us no hassle about coming out again to fix the garage problem, but again there was the reschedule. And my one big pet peeve?they don't return calls by telephone but rather text. I hate texting!!!

Our electrical outlets have not been working since our landscaper cut an electrical cord and shorted out six electrical outlets. Gabe found the lose wire and restored all outlets. He completed the job quickly and efficiently. Another electrical company that it would cost us a great deal more and that they would have to rewire the entire kitchen. We were so pleased when he told us that it was only going to cost us $90.00.
