We are a Professional Landscape Company. We have a Design Center at our facility where you can meet to see and choose your plants, bushes and trees. Our nursery is available to view colors, sizes and types. You can walk our flagstone or stamped concrete patios. You can create or review your landscape plan with your personal advisor. You can sit under the shade of a beautiful arbor and let your immagination take charge. You can visit our customers' homes to see work that we've completed, and in some situations, actually meet and discuss their landscaping experiences with us. We are the best at what we do because we include our customers in the planning stages and throughout the process until their perfect dreams come true.

Description of Work: I had Kirsch give me an estimate for cleaning up our flower beds, adding a few plants and mulch. I told them it was just a budget clean up as we were selling our house and just wanted it to look decent. They are 2 fairly large beds, but I was still surprised when the estimate came out to $1600. So I declined the estimate and decided to do it myself. Materials (mulch and plants) is part of their business so I asked if they could recommend some plants and I would get the plants and mulch from them. Their short reply was "we have a $500 charge for landscape design and consulting." Alright I guess I'll go to a garden center then. It just left a bit of a bitter taste in my mouth, I was asking for plant advice to give them my business since they came out to give an estimate. I wasn't to designing an outdoor kitchen or something. Their soil and mulch prices seemed reasonable and they had free delivery so I ordered a few yards of mulch and soil from them. The delivery driver was on time and friendly and they scheduled me in quickly. I didn't look at their plants. Part of the problem I believe is they have their business split up into separate segments. I don't know how they pay their employees, but it seems like the service side has no incentive to relay customer information to their supply side. It can be rather annoying when you're trying to get information on site or over the phone. I would recommend them for raw materials. I wasn't terribly impressed with their bid on service, but I didn't get multiple bids to know if it was competitive or not. It took me a full day working by myself to get it done, and it was probably $250-300 in materials. If they acted more friendly and helpful after I declined the bid I would have been more inclined to leave an overall positive review.

Response from Kirsch Landscape & Design
Dear Mr. [member name removed], Sorry that I just learned about your complaint-report to Angies List. We have recently joined Angies List and need to monitor our account more closely. From what you’ve stated, I believe you have a good reason to be upset with us. When a potential customer rejects a contract offer to complete a job we should always be professional and business like, not resentful. Our representative must have taken the proposal rejection personally for some reason. We’re sorry about that. Had you requested bids you would have found that the estimate was competitive considering the scope of clean up, the volume of materials needed, and labor to complete the job. Providing information about plant types, soils, and mulch is a “no charge” service that endears customers to us. We should have done this for you! However, we do offer a landscape design and consulting service for a flat $500 fee. Obviously that’s not what you were requesting. Thanks for your comments about our mulch and soils. Kingwood Mulch is our landscape materials company. Our materials are the highest quality and that’s why many professional landscapers in our area buy their materials from us. In addition our nursery has professional grade plants, shrubs, trees, etc. that we sell to the public and use in our own landscape jobs. I wish we could redo this episode to show you why we have 1000’s of very happy customers. Maybe we will meet again. Thanks, Eugene L. Kirsch, Sr. General Manager Kirsch Landscape & Design Kingwood Mulch & Soils
