I called Holloway to schedule the work. They indicated they could do the work same-day between noon and 2:00PM, and their repair folks would call before their arrival. The dispatch called shortly before 2:00PM and said the crew was running late and that they would arrive before 3:00PM, and they did. The crew of two (Dustin and Steve) were courteous and professional, and accomplished tasks quite quickly. I have to say that the dispatch group really stay on their toes making sure to keep the customer advised of schedule (and in this case changes to schedule), and I appreciated this effort. Looking at the bill I asked that it be written out that the bibs were warranted for 10 years (while this is apparently tracked at Holloway I would have no record). Finally, I was supplied a "Get Paid for Your Feedback!" card saying if you wrote a review for Angies list you'd receive a $20 VISA giftcard. However to receive the giftcard one must "Email a direct link to the posting to dispatch@hollowayplumbing.net". I'm afraid I don't know how to do that from my computer, and suggest that Holloway simply read this review and send me the card anyway.
Description of Work: The service performed was replacement of a hose bib (outside hose faucet) that had a slow leak. Holloway plumbing had installed the existing/leaking hose bib in July of 2010 (it didn't last three years). Because a second hose bib had been installed at that time I asked that they replace it as well. The replacement hose bibs they now offer are warranted for 10 years and are of a simple ball valve type. Both valves were replaced in July of 2010 for $114.50 (includes a $39.00 service fee). The 2010 replacements were screw and O-ring type. For this (March 2013) service a "dispatch" fee is shown as $39.00, the first bib at $82.00, and the second bib discounted for $64.00 ($185.00 total).

Thank you very much for your review of our services on Angies List. We do appreciate it and do know that this takes your valuable time to do. That is why we did have a program in place to help compensate our customers for their time and effort to place a review, positive or negative. We learn from the negative but constantly are striving for the positive That said I would like you and all other Angies List members to know that we have ceased with this program at the request of Angie's List. It was never our intention to "pay" for reviews but only to compensate our customers for their valuable time that they took to complete such a review. It seems however that you must have received paperwork written on an older version of our work orders/invoices which still had the statement on reviews. As we are no longer running this program, we will be sending you a gift certificate for any inconvenience we may have caused.

We arranged for them to be at our house at 9 AM to complete the PRV and valve replacements. Sure enough at 9 AM, on the dot, they pulled up in front of the house. At that same time we received a call from their office to tell us that they were on their way. I informed the pleasant lady from the office that they were, in fact, just pulling up. The work to remove the old PRV, install the new new ones, along with the two new water cut-off valves and water heater safety tank was all accomplished in about three hours, which I found to be very fast, as they had to dig out around the underground water meter to install the new PRVs, do the work, replace the dirt and encase the entire area in a new access panel. They left the area looking clean and neat. They would return two days later to tackle the master bath. The master bath work took all day. They were a bit late because of a meeting at the office - but we did get a call from the same pleasant lady informing us that they would be late. And there were a few "Murphy's Law" moments during the day, but they took them in stride and pressed on with no (visible) frustration. At the end of the day, the bathroom had a great new look and was as clean as it was before they began the makeover. I don't give compliments where they're not deserved - and I will definitely compliment Texas and Jeff. They were professional, pleasant, courteous, truly honest in letting us know what could and could not be done - and definitely knowledgeable. Holloway Plumbing will surely get all future plumbing business at our house
Description of Work: We purchased some high-end replacement master bathroom fixtures online for the two sinks, shower and whirlpool bath. Once all of the parts were in, it was time to find a plumber to install them. We quickly discovered that finding a plumber to get into the whirlpool bathtub enclosure and replace the spout and faucets, let alone the drain plug, overflow, etc., was going to be a real challenge. Every plumber we called said that they didn't do whirlpool tubs. Then we called Holloway. They sent Texas (believe it or not, that's his first name) and Jeff, his helper, to see us the next day. While at the house, Jeff took a water pressure reading at our front hose bib and discovered that the pressure was far in excess of the safe limit and that the pressure relief valve (PRV) had apparently failed. Texas gave us a quote to replace the PRV (actually, to install two, in tandem), along with a couple other new style water cut-off valves inside the garage. And as luck would have it, the city code had changed since our water heater had been installed and they would be obligated to modify the hot water flow and install a water heater safety tank as well. We gave them the OK to do that work prior to having the bathroom work accomplished. Texas confirmed that getting access to the inside of the whirlpool tub enclosure is always a challenge, but that they could do it. After looking at all of the parts we had purchased and surveying the bathroom, he said that there was another challenge. The new valve that went with the new shower faucet handle could not be installed from the inside, as the size of the hole behind the current handle cover plate was not large enough to get the old valve out and the new valve in. Short of removing the entire marble and glass shower enclosure to get inside the wall, the only other way was to access it would be from the outside, through the exterior wall of the house. He had a bricklayer/mason come by to give us a quote to remove about a dozen bricks and replace them after the plumbing work was done. The quoted price to do that was WAY high, so I told him I'd get my own bricklayer to do the the work (which I did, for 25% of the cost quoted by the one they sent). Holloway Plumbing does not work on an hourly rate basis - they have fixed pricing for virtually every type of plumbing job. They also have a Plumbing Protection Plan that costs $14.95/month ($179.40 for the year) that includes discounts, annual inspection of all plumbing, a water heater adjustment, flushing and tune-up, inspection of drain lines with drain vision camera, and some other preventative actions. If you elect to sign up for the plan, the costs of the various elements of the plumbing jobs are reduced an average of 10%. We opted to take out this protection plan. The total amount of the discounts for these two jobs greatly exceeded the cost of the Plan.

My wife and I are newly-weds, new to the Kerrville area, but living in an older home that is giving us some "issues". Holloway is helping us address some of those issues. I have called on them twice in one week. They unclogged our main drain and installed a new water heater. From technician to business office, these folks are friendly, curteous, and attentive to the customer's needs. I had the pleasure of being served by a master plumber who performed or supervised the heater installation. The master plumber and his helper were prompt, fast but not rushed, friendly, informative, neat, and efficient. From my initial phone call to installation took only a few hours and cost MUCH less than if it had been performed by either of the 2 big help-yourself chains in town. This quote may be silly, but it's true: For all my plumbing needs, It's Holloway--All the way.
Description of Work: Clean out sewer clog. Install new water heater and dispose of old heater. Clear water lines of particles and sediment. Recommended further issues that need to be addressed. Explained monthly service plan.

The company called 1/2 an hour before arrival. Upon arrival they introduced themselves and put on protective footware over their shoes. After explaining what was to be done, one technician proceded to install the garbage disposal and the other started digging in the backyard to install the clean-out drain. Upon completion of the installations they left the area around the drain clean and in an orderly. They also check the toilets and other plumbing in the house to see if there were any additional areas that may need repairs. I was informed that the toilets may need new valves before long. I was very please with the professionalism from the technicans.
Description of Work: When I moved into the house there was not a cleanout drain and it was next to impossible to clean properly. The garbage disposal had also stopped working. The technicans installed a clean-out drain outside and installed a new garbage disposal in the kitchen.

The work went very well. The man knew his job well and three was no problem. He fixed several leaking faucets, one of which required digging and pipe replacement. Also an unusual part was required, and he took care of that. There was initially a scheduling problem, but they handled that very quickly and to my satisfaction. They were professional and very polite throughout. I would feel comfortable recommending them.

The plumbers arrived after a call from the company telling us they were coming. Much appreciated. They were shown the problems, four in all. They got right to work. Fixed what they could. Will order parts or pick them up. Dustin was very polite and professional. We will ask for him again.
Description of Work: The plumber and his helper fixed the leak in the kitchen faucet. They had to clean corrosion from our hard water out of the body of the faucet. Got the master bath faucet to working correcty by changing out some parts, corrosion again. Got parts for the master bath shower and for the clothes drying venting. Were very pleasant to deal with.

The service member that arrived assessed the problem and gave us several practical suggestions on where to purchase a new unit. Of course he recommended the unit Holloway Plumbing supported and serviced, but when we mentioned that we could not afford such a excellent softener, the serviceman gave us several more options from different businesses to investigate the prices and availability of other brands, He did so in a professional and non degrading manner. He was an expert and his demeanor reflected his expertise and professionalism. I recommend Holloway Plumbing to everyone that is considering any plumbing solutions to whatever plumbing problems they might have.

They said they would be out at my house between 11 am and 1. So I actually really didn't expect them till 1. They showed up at 11. Appearance was neat and clean. Asked what my problems were and if I had any other issues. Gave me a estimate and ask if I was okay with it. They had my problem fixed in 30 to 35 minutes, even gave me a drain stopper in case I didn't have on. They were very professional and friendly. Great customer service. Would I use them again? Yes, would I recommend them? Yes.

The garbage disposal was getting old and making weird noises so I decided to get a new one. I called Holloway Plumbing because I have used them on a couple of different plumbing issues this past year and have the utmost confidence in their quality of work, their honesty, their cleanliness and their professionalism. I have used other service and repair companies from around the area but Holloway Plumbing is the only company I will allow to work in my house when I'm not present. From the manager to the plumbers and their helpers, these guys are the most respectful, honest and clean cut plumbing repairmen I have ever seen. And I have used many different companies for my own and my family's properties. For any type of plumbing, Holloway is definitely your best choice.

The Technician that came out gave an estimate of the repair cost and performed the services upon acceptance. We had a plumbing problem with our toilet leaking, our bath tub was clogged up and our garbage disposal did not seemed to be working properly. Holloway plumbing's service man fixed both our leaking toilet and clogged bath tub in no time at all. But because we had prior arrangements, he had to come back and fix the garbage disposal. He was kind of enough to come back on another day. He also made some suggestions on how we could prevent the bath from clogging. And upon returning to fix the garbage disposal, he also put on new drain equipment in our bath tub. He also totally redid the piping for our garbage disposal so it would work properly and prevent an old musty smell we were getting before. What awesome, awesome service he provided!
Description of Work: Toilet was leaking when flushed. New parts we provided to prevent leaking. Bath tub was clogged up. New drain valve was installed and unclogging fluid poured down drain to wipe out any other clogs. Garbage disposal was not working properly. An old musty smell coming from unit. New plumbing provided for better drain and vent provided for smell.

Very impressed with the quality of work and service that Holloway Plumbing provides. As I was leaving for work yesterday morning I opened the garage door and found water all over the floor. Needless to say I panicked. So I called my friend who just had some plumbing work done and he recommended that I call Holloway, so I did. The lady who answered the phone was very polite and began to calm me down by assuring that she would have her master plumber (Joe) get to my home immediately (as all the plumbers already were on other calls) to address this flood. Joe arrived within fifteen minutes and went straight to the water shut-off valve which stopped the flooding. He then checked the water pressure (which was very high) and found the source of the leak(s). To make a long story short, they ended up replacing the water heater, putting a water pressure valve in with a thermal tank and repairing a leak behind my water softener. The job actually took longer than expected but this did not impact the price/cost of the estimate Joe had given to me before they started the work. They even checked all the rest of my plumbing for me at no additional cost. These guys are the cleanest most courteous plumbers I have ever had the privilege of needing. They even cleaned up all the water on my garage floor and raised my wet belongings to help them dry at no charge to me. They all wear impressive uniforms and are very clean cut. Having them in my home was a pleasure. I highly recommend this honest and very professional plumbing company!

I was working out of town and our drains backed up in the house. I told my wife to call them. They came and snaked the drain outside and advised my wife that the septic tank was full. She explained to them that we had just had it pumped out a month before. They insisted that was the problem and charged about $113 for services (minus the usual machine charge) and left. We had the tank pumped out again and the problem was still there. She called them back and was told they would come back for the usual fee. I came home and dug up the line to find the cause was tree roots in the line. I later spoke with their management and they went out of their way to quickly resolve our issues, my money was refunded and they offered to send someone out right away to finish the job. All said I believe this was a case of miscommunication and I believe had I spoken with a manager at the time the work was performed this issue would have been handled promptly by Holloway. I will be using them again and would recommend them.

Thank you for taking the time to review our companies services. Holloway Plumbing is the premier plumbing company in the Texas Hill Country. Our goal is not only to solve all of your plumbing problems but to do so in the most efficient, cost effective and best way; all with the most outstanding customer experience that it is possible for us to deliver. Holloway Plumbing places the utmost value on our customers. As such, we are here to provide you with the highest quality of service and a warranty (2 years) that you can understand and trust. 100% complete customer satisfaction is our goal. We are not in competition with the do-it-yourself home centers or the unlicensed, uninsured, and underinsured handyman/plumbing company. In order to provide you with the high level of service you deserve and to properly protect you and your home, we: • Employ only fully trained and licensed technicians; • Carry a full General Liability policy in the amount of $2 million that protects you and your home; and • Carry a full Workman’s Compensation policy to protect you from any legal exposure should any of our workers happen to be injured on your property. We hope you agree that these increased levels of service, warranty and insurance come with a value and as such our price may be higher than what you would see from your local home center or other “not so professional” plumbing companies in the area. We refuse to risk our valued customers’ lives, property and our reputation. We’re working hard to be your plumber for life. For plumbing the right way, call Holloway! Please know that we do offer a Complete Customer Satisfaction warranty on all of our work. If for any reason, you or your landlord is not happy with our services we are happy to discuss the issues and come to an agreement that you find acceptable. As to the specifics of your complaint and after reviewing the invoice I found that we made two seperate trips to the service location. The first day was a 1 hour service visit which included our diagnostic time to determine what issues your plumbing systems had, the best way to repair those issues, the time to contact the landlord with the repairs and the price to do those repairs. Please know before we do any work we always give our customers the price to complete the tasks upfront so they can decide if they want to continue or not. We believe that it is the fairest way to work with our customers so that the price is know up front and there are no price surprises after the fact. The work was approved and we sent two technicians back and they completed the work in approximately 45 minutes or 1.5 man hours for a total job time of 2.5 hours. As to companies quoting repair rates over the phone, I would be very careful with this. It is almost impossible to quote repair rates for plumbing over the phone because until you see it you really have no idea what is involved. It is not something we feel that you cannot ethically do because it is so inaccuarate. We do not want to be in the position of lowballing a repair on the phone or in person and then raising the price after the fact because of "unforseen" problems. Please remember that 100% Customer Satisfaction is our goal and we are always available to discuss any concerns that our customers may have with any of our work. Please do not hesitate to call us. Thank you! Damon Lewis Holloway Plumbing

I called and asked an approximate cost to get better water pressure. They said they would have to come out and inspect after which they quoted me $700.00. They installed a PRV and thermal expansion tank which took 1 hour or less to install. They refused to break down the cost of labor and equipment installed. After paying them I looked up the PRV and thermal expansion tank on the internet and found them less than half of what they charged me. Should have done the research first and gotten estimates from other plummers - my fault.

Dear Member Thank you for leaving your comments about the recent service call to your home on Angies list. Please know that we review and take seriously all comments submitted either to or about us. We work diligently to use them to improve the overall services we provide to our customers. It is our goal to be the plumbing company with the very best overall value for your money. The way to accomplish this is by providing you with the highest quality service, the best trained technicians in the area, by providing our customers with a proper diagnosis and with a fixed up-front price to complete the task prior to any work being performed so that there is no surprise at the end of the job. I do believe we excel at this and it is confirmed by your high scores for Quality, Responsiveness, Punctuality and Professionalism. As to your comments on our price, I believe this is a result of the following concerns you have: 1. Technicians only onsite for 1 hour or less to perform task – We actually spent 3 working hours solving the two issues you originally had called into our office. On 3/27 our service tech made the first visit to your home. He spent approximately one hour there diagnosing the problem with your water pressure and solved a problem you were having with the hot water recirculation pump. The pump he found unplugged and after plugging it back in, the hot water recirculation problem was resolved. The pressure problem was determined to be a faulty pressure regulator which he recommended replacing and quoted our Up-Front price for installing the PRV and expansion tank as required by city code. On the following day, we sent 2 technicians so that we could complete the tasks outlined above in a more timely fashion. They were onsite for 1 hour for a total of 2 man hours. As we use an Up-Front price, the additional tech had no impact on the overall cost to you. 2. Your request for a labor and parts breakdown to our office on 3/29/2012 - Unfortunately, we cannot provide this level of detail any longer as we do not track materials used on each specific job since changing to the Up-Front pricing system. Our Up-Front books prices are based on industry standards for each task and are set for us based on averages for the tasks in our area. Since our transition from time and materials is very recent, I apologize if this was not explained to you properly and any misunderstandings that may have occurred. They are overpriced and not very competent. They did not fix the leak as they couldn’t find it. They do have extensive array of equipments, depends on what needs to be done.

Response from Holloway Plumbing
Dear Member, Thank you for taking the the time to write a review on Angie’s list in regards to Holloway Plumbing. I am sorry that you do not feel that the service you received from us was up to par. It is difficult to retrace our steps on a job from 6 years ago but I was able to find the invoice for the work that I believe you are referring to and would like to list the details from it. Invoice: 8568 Total Invoice Amount: $92.00 Date of work: August 2, 2006 Description of work performed: Water Leak possible yard leak. Located meter. Shut off first valve in yard. Meter stopped. Re-opened valve. Shut off valve at tank. Meter stopped. Re-opened valve. Shut off 3rd valve meter stopped. Re-opened valve. Shut off 4th valve meter stopped. Finally shut off 5th blue valve meter stopped but when I re-opened it leaks. Meter hand moves. Need to get diagram of water system to properly diagnose. No visible water to indicate location of leak in sprinkler system. Requested customer to call us when diagram is available. The above is the extent of notes that I have on the work order from the 2006 period. Based on these notes and due to the long time frame from then till now, I can only speculate that since there was no visible signs of water on the ground and a leak was still occurring, that the technician did not want to use a lot of billable time without having more information which is why he was requesting a diagram of the sprinkler layout. I’m sure he was concerned about running up a large bill with possibly little benefit to you. I would like to say that we do take all of our customers concerns seriously and use all comments to provide the best possible services that we can for all of our customers. We appreciate your business and as always our goal is 100% Customer Satisfaction.

The safety and well being of our customers is always of utmost concern to us here at Holloway Plumbing. Unfortunately, there are times when this does increase the cost of the work that the customer is requesting. In this instance, Member's water heater installation required not only the basic installation of the water heater, but also several code upgrades that are not only for his and his family's safety but are required by both the State of Texas and by the City of Kerrville. Our quote for the work that he wanted performed included all these items. These included extending a gas line so that the gas shutoff was accessible from the front rather than inaccessible behind the water heater, installation of a drain pan for the water heater, installation of pan drain line and a seperate pressure relief valve line under the home and to the homes exterior as is required by code and the cost of the permit and inspection that is required by the City of Kerrville for all water heater installations inside the city limits. Without knowing further details about who and exactly what work was performed by others, I cannot comment on why there was a descrepency in the price quotes.

They were fairly prompt, found the problem and provided a temporary fix so we could have water to our bathrooms and kitchen. The hot water line broke so we had only cold water remained in the house. They followed up to see if we wanted the full repair. We did not because we felt the $800 - $1200 cost was too high and would probably be two men at the same time, running up the work hours. (It should be noted that another company gave the same estimate, and they would have had two people also.) The job is actually a one person job, and a friend came over wondered why they cut all the hot water. He reinstalled the hot water heater, soldered in a junction for the hot water heater to re-enter the system after the water break and we now have hot and cold water to both bathrooms. It took our friend about two hours or less. So if you don't mind overpaying Holloway is a good company, I think. I just hate paying for a second person when they are not needed.
Description of Work: Provided temporary fix for broken water line in the house foundation. Capped bad line, removed water heater from system until fixed. However, they were too expensive because they sent two people and charged us for the two people while they were here, when they only needed one person once they found the problem. It should have only cost about $200.

Originally, a single technician was sent out on this task to evaluate. Upon arrival, he soon determined that he needed a second technician to aide in diagnosing the problem. Many times, sub slab leaks do require a helper to properly diagnose quickly. One person can sometimes do it, but it takes much longer which in the long run actually costs more per man hour due to the reduced rate for the second technician. So, if 2 technicians can get the job done in half the time, the end cost to the customer is actually less that it would be if there was only one technician and it took twice as long. On this particular task, I believe the second technician was needed to not only provide assistance in the diagnosis of the sub slab leak but also to help move the water heater out of the way. If I remember correctly, the water heater was in a closet and raised on a stand. As for our quote, I do believe we were accurate and fair in that regard as the member had competing quotes that were equivalent to ours. As we did on this job, we always like to give our customers quotes upfront if at all possible so that there are no misunderstandings at the end of the job. As a licensed plumbing company we do have overhead and expenses. We carry liability insurance and workmans comp to protect our customers and their property, provide training for our technicians so as to provide a high level of service to our customers and bring fully stocked vehicles to the jobs in order to provide quick and timely repairs for our customers. All these things allow us to be the reliable plumbing company that we are and stand behind all of the work that we do.
