I do all aspects of carpentry with 25 years experience. I work independently unless the job requires an assistant. I require half of the price prior for purchase of materials, then provide an invoice after the services are completely rendered.

Services we don't offer
I am not a licensed plumber or electrician. I do not work with concrete or masonry.
Original estimate: $12,000 & 2 weeks tops for labor and materials. Cost me $18,000 & 3 weeks and was not completed. Fence: Totally uneven all the way around, not even touching ground at some points. The gate does not work properly. Back Yard: Spilled concrete in 3 places and just left it there. Storage Shed: Not painted Back Door: Trim not added inside the door so a gap was left there. Short Hallway: Trim not finished; blinds not hung Kitchen: Red trim paint dripping down white walls, chair rail trim also had red paint on white walls, painted the top of my wooden cabinets white while painting ceiling. And again, painting not finished (trim work). Caulking was not done between cabinets and ceiling so there are gaps. Living Room: The new front door does not work properly. Some trim painted in the living. A gap was left between the door frame and the trim is missing. Long Hallway: Doors were painted with a small paint brush and only 1 coat. They were not taken down and rolled. Bathroom: It is a small bathroom, it took 2 weeks and it is still not done. Again, the painting was sloppy and the nail holes were only puttied and not sanded down before painting. The faces of the drawers and cabinets were not painted all the way. The wall put up to cover the window is very uneven. Also, the toilet seat was walked all over, left stained and broken. Bought whole gallon of red when there was very little red trim to do. Much of the hardware was just painted over. I had used Alek Forsythe last year to remodel my master bathroom and he did a great job. So I was too trusting with this job. I finally fired him. He was paid $550 per day. Now I must save enough money to hire someone to finish and fix the mess he left me with. I was heart broken. Final comment: He was EXTREMELY expensive and work done EXTREMELY poorly and sloppy, if done at all. UPDATE: Mr. Forsythe and I both know what he told me about estimates and time frames. I cannot continue to let this problem affect my life. Had he only offered to fix everything at his cost, this would not have been necessary. But that was not offered when we expressed how unhappy we were with the unprofessional way things were handled. That is when I decided I would not pay him to fix things that should have been done right the first time.?

Response from Handy Samoan
Original request of work consisted of 1) building a privacy fence; 2) building of 10' X 12' shed with ramp and storage shelves; 3) demolition and removal of old shed; 4) new front and back doors; 5) new tub, surround and sink installation in bathroom; 6) ceilings and walls painted in kitchen, bathroom, living room and two (2) hallways, trim not included; and 7) workshop area inside house to be upgraded but is low priority. Request was made with a $20,000 home improvement loan for a two (2) week time period. The day rate was discussed and agreed upon before any work was done. Due to working previously for homeowner without any issues, no contract was printed or signed. Stated to homeowner the majority of cost would be the bathroom remodel but cost would fluctuate due to the unforeseen. A time line was not agreed upon for scope of work would take longer that two (2) weeks and was told "no rush" by homeowner. Fence - Unfortunately the ground is uneven and worked two (2) days to set post by hand. Owner purchased cost-effective pre-built privacy panels and was pleased with work and fence when discussed during construction. A wheel needed to be installed on gate to assist post with opening/closing and clean up had not occurred before leaving premises. Front door - The new door was not the same size as original but worked properly after installation. The base trim did not meet door trim but was not able to finish; also needed to grout tile that met threshold. Paint - A gallon of red paint was purchased for the kitchen and short hallway trim. However, after purchasing paint you and your daughter decided the hallway didn't need that color of paint. Homeowner did not offer to remove pictures from walls, clean areas or move furniture to assist in painting of walls and ceilings. Bathroom - Two (2) days were spent removing old tub, tile and lath. Next 3 to 4 days spent pluming new divertor valve, hooking up drain, grinding tile and lath behind tub, installing tub, reforming tile to new tub, and creating custom trim around tub. A few extras that were not on the original request but was done as a courtesy to the customer: 1) installation of ceiling fan and two (2) lights in kitchen; 2) installation of shower curtain rod, light and faucet in bathroom; 3) painting of cabinets/drawers/linen closet in bathroom with drawers and doors a different color than the face frames using painters tape and plastic to protect area; 4) moving, covering and cleaning of areas to paint; and 5) dog-sitting of new puppy during work hours. To assist homeowner saving money, the material list was sent to the "bid room". I was paid weekly with no remorse or questioning from homeowner. During the time spent on the job the homeowner was pleased, never stating any issues or problems with work done. I went above the usual working for her and feel that I was wronged being run off the job without a chance to correct the issues stated. No amount of money will make her happy and I will not work for her again.
