Terribly so far. Still waiting to here back!
Description of Work: There was an in person consultation by Chad Swanson where good ideas were exchanged. However, since 3/6/13 at least 5 voicemails and or texts have not been returned. We're merely wanting to check the status of a design that was to be provided to us as part of the package. Granted, it is not a huge amount of money spent however at the very least we expect a return phone call, let alone the design we paid for. We are floored on such unprofessionalism, especially given a positive rating from AL!

This is one of many projects Swanson Renovations has done for me. Chad and his crews are prompt, courteous, do impeccable work from start to finish and leave the job site clean and tidy at the end of each day.
Description of Work: Swanson Renovations is currently building an addition onto my house, which involved tying the roofline of two structures together. Chad took great care in his design and execution so that it looks as if the addition was part of the original structure. Upon installation of the new roof, everything flows and ties together, perfectly, including the shingle color. I could not be more pleased with results.

Chad was very responsive from the first phone call. He came out to my house and walked through with me making suggestions and recommendations. I liked the fact that he was very honest about where I should put my money and more importantly...where it might not pay off. He made some great suggestions about value engineering those areas. He also helped me several times when I got stuck making design decisions...there are so many that you just don't think about and he has a great eye for that. He covered all the contract bases with me and each phase was clearly spelled out in terms of what I could expect from them and what I would pay. Chad and his team did a great job. Carter managed my project and was at my house a lot to make sure everything was running smoothly. He gets a gold star for having to deal with a couple of emotional moments I had when faced with several decisions to make that I had not factored in (that was about 2/3rds of the way into the job which Chad had already warned me would be the point where I would start to loose my patience...lol). No project of this size goes without a hitch but, when one came up, Carter and Chad were on top of it immediately! The subs were all great...very friendly and respectful and showed up on time even though I was in Plano and they were coming from Ft. Worth. Chad quoted 8 weeks and they would have finished in 7 if it weren't for my inability to make a decision on several things as well as the add ons that I did along the way. I was thrilled with the results and have received so many compliments. There are a lot of nightmare stories out there about contractors. You will have no worries if you hire them! When I decide to update my bedrooms, without a doubt I will call Chad. He is a man of integrity and proved to me that Swanson Renovations can't be beat!
Description of Work: My house was built in the early 70's and needed some serious updating. I decided to address the living room, den, kitchen, and front bathroom. A commercial designer friend of mine recommended Chad from a friend of hers who had used him and highly recommended him.

6) He performed steps 1-4 perfectly. We were very impressed. 7) He started with his first set of recommendations. 8) We made several changes and returned them 9) We repeated the process through 5-6 iterations...each time, we got closer and closer to the final product. 10) In October or November, we received our last set of plans (I believe it was version 5 or 6). 11) I believe we made one minor adjustment, and said that's it! 12) He was going to send the final plans and also send them to his providers for estimates. 13) That is the last time we spoke with him on the phone (October-November). 14) In mid-December, we received an email that he addressed to us and several others, stating that his providers were over booked before the holidays...they would get our cost estimates in early January. 15) In January, I sent a brief, friendly email asking when we could expect our final plans and cost estimates. 16) No response. 17) A couple of weeks later, we did the same. 18) No response. 19) We tried once more. 20) Still no response. 21) Last week, I sent a final email, stating that if we didn't hear something from him by yesterday (2/20/2013), we were going to send a review to Angie's List.....stating that we really didn't want to do that. We would rather get the plans and cost estimate. 22) Still no response by yesterday's deadline. My wife and I are disappointed. Like I said at the beginning....Chad is a great guy. We would have loved to do business with him. We wish him well. But he did not finish the job that he promised. Therefore, all of the good will he had built up through October-November (clearly A+ through that point), Ends up as an "D" in the end. We received some benefit from him...the (almost) complete plans. But he didn't cross the finish line with the final plans and cost estimate. That's why we have him a "D" rather than an "F" Sorry, Chad...we hoped to give you an A+.
Description of Work: Chad is a great guy. Very professional, appears to be very knowledgeable. He came to our house.. 1) We spent 2-3 hours discussing his services and what we wanted to accomplish. 2) He said he would would draw the area to be remodeled (our kitchen and laundry rooms), 3) Then draw, in detail, the renovations 4) Then we would go back and forth on phone and via email, making adjustments until we got it right. 5) When completed, he would provide the final plans and detailed cost estimates.

It was with much trepidation that I started the search for someone to remodel our 20-year-old kitchen. After getting 7 different contractors to come out and bid, we chose Swanson Renovations. Even when we had some pretty daunting requests, they were always met with;Let me see what I can do; and they always did come through! They sealed off the kitchen to minimize dust etc getting into other rooms. Everyone of their craftsman that came in, did what they were supposed to do, when they were supposed to do it and made it look awesome. And at the end of every workday, they cleaned up! Never once were we met with cost overruns, any extra money over the quote was a direct result of our requests, the granite we fell in love with that wasn't in the original budget, the backsplash tile color that we had to have, that was different than what we originally agreed upon. We love our new kitchen! At our request we kept the floor and the kitchen cabinets, which they refinished hard to believe they are the originals.! Every remodel is sure to have its glitches, but the true measure of a professional is how those glitches are handled. They were pro's all the way through. Loved their work so much we are saving for the next big project , because we know Chad and Carter will make sure it is done right and in budget. I kind of hate to tell you how good Swanson is, but they are way too good to keep to myself!

I ended up finding someone else to do the job because the house I want the work done is too far away from him. I spoke to him on the phone and he was knowledgable and professional, and offered to do exactly what the Deal entailed. I'm not sure he would have been so eager to work with us had we chosen to go with someone else to do the actual work, but that doesn't really matter at this point. He did leave us with a good impression.

Initially there was a delay in scheduling because of the overwhelming response to the special. This was not a great issue as we were not in a hurry. After a couple of no response telephone messages, the appointment was scheduled on 6/7/2012. He was very professional at my home and seemed to understand what we were trying to accomplish. He was to have the design to me in 3-4 weeks. After 4 weeks I emailed looking for the design with no response. Finally after 2 months (8/10/12) I received the design images which were exactly the look we were after. I replied to Mr. Swanson on 8/17 that we would like him to price out the work and send us an estimate to begin work after the first of the year. We have yet to receive that estimate. Mr. Swanson did mention last summer that there were some events that had affected their work flow and he apologized.

We had our meeting back in May and finally got our design in December. After our first meeting, we did receive an email telling us that there is a delay. So we waited and waited. Finally my husband emailed Swanson to inquire about the design. We got it. The design is gorgeous! Swanson did a beautiful job. Now we are trying to see if we can take the project to the next level by finding out the estimates and more details. We are very pleased with the design. However the response took a long time.
Description of Work: Swanson came out and took pictures of our kitchen. He listened to our needs and wants. He gave us suggestions and good ideas. He was supposed to give us a design of a new kitchen.

We purchased a Big Deal for bathroom remodel design from Swanson Rennovations. We have not yet finalized our plans with him, but his design service is amazing, even if you are not certain as to what you want to do or if you want to use his services. Chad visited our home and reviewed our situation. He spent several hours with us discussing our likes and dislikes, and he made a number of suggestions. He advised that it would be a week or 2 before he could send us designs. In this time frame we received an email with computer aided design renderings of how our bathroom would look with all the suggestions he was making. We haven't gotten back with him on our ideas on his renderings, but he is available to incorporate our changes in further drafts. We wanted to rate him highly now for his design work so others will know that this is a great way to proceed on rremodeling if you don't know exactly what you want to do. When we finalize our plans, we will get a bid from Chad to do the work, but whether we use his services or not he is a very talented designer and a great person to work with. Highly recommended.

Chad Swanson came to our house on September 13, 2012. He was here for over two hours. We had a good discussion about our tastes and preferences. Chad explained the differences between countertop materials, the benefits and drawbacks of the different types of flooring, and the methods of refinishing cabinets. Then he went to work taking pictures and measuring. He left with three or four options of color and type for each affected area. A few days later, he sent us nine digital renderings showing what our kitchen would look like in all the combinations we had described. They were extremely well done and gave exactly what we needed to fine tune our selections. We made a few tweaks, Chad sent us the updates, and we asked for his estimate. Several days later he sent a detailed estimate for all the labor and most of the material to upgrade our kitchen. (We had not made the final tile selection or picked the exact appliances.) The estimate looked very detailed, thorough, and fair. We have not begun the project, but we now have the information to do the budgeting exercise. When we are ready we intend to contract with Swanson Renovations to execute and manage the task. We were impressed with Chad's knowledge and expertise. It seems like a good value to have his company do the work and/or oversee the specialists needed for some of the tasks.
Description of Work: My wife and I had been discussing a potential kitchen update, but really had no idea how much the total project would cost. An Angie's List Big Deal with Swanson Renovations offered kitchen or bathroom design services for $75. I called and made an appointment.

When he showed up, we found out that we didn’t need a design; we just needed a kitchen remodel. When we actually started getting estimates for the job, he told us he didn’t have time to give us an estimate because he was so busy with the other members that purchased the Deal. We went with another company for the remodel.

We bought the Angie's List offer on June 4th, but did not try to contact Swanson Renovations until mid July. When I finally called, he was on vacation until August. We finally connected in August and made an appointment for August 31st. Chad Swanson arrived on time and presented a professional appearance and knowledgable manner. He toured our kitchen and patiently listened to my wife's and my vision(s) for closing a window and doorway, extending existing cabinetry and countertops, changing counter top material and enlarging an island, as well as adding/changing the cooktop and ovens. Chad offered his suggestions and we updated our request in a number of areas. We also requested that we be able to break the construction into "pay as we go" segments rather than to have to finance the work. His comments suggested that he was a veteran of larger and much more expensive projects and our project would not be hard to do. He made careful measurements and promised to send a first draft which we could "mark up" and return. Our only concern was that he had not written down a single note and we were wondering how much of the discussion he would remember... The first draft designs arrived via e-mail in early October and were nearly perfect! I was particularly impressed with the way his software pictured the room and cabinetry rather than just providing dimensions and rough shapes. The only needed changes we spotted related to the colors, number and size of of drawers in one cabinet and the depth of the serving surface in another. We anticipate receiving useful, final drawings and giving Chad every opportunity to win the contract to perform the renovation. Thus far, $75 well spent!
Description of Work: The Angie's Deal offered complete custom kitchen design services. Thus far the contractor has visited once and provided his first draft design.

From start to finish Chad and Carter were a perfect Match for my Husband and I. When asked, they would share thier idea's which I greatly needed. Thier was so many things I needed to make decisions on, it was getting a little scary if I was making the right choices. The one thing I know is that choosing Swanson's Renovation's is one of the best decisions Iv'e ever made- besides marrying my Husband!
Description of Work: Started with demo of Kitchen, backed up pantry to enlarge kitchen for a more open feeling (kitchen was very small) removed ceramic tiles also. Chad came up with a plan to give us more kitchen counter space, adding Custom Cabints, granite counter tops, granite composite sink (love) and a backsplash I have never seen before. Don't anyone get any idea's!!! Chad promised ! I could go on and on, but I still need to get to the Living Room(Great Room) Removed Popcorn ceiling retectured the walls, floated to remove existing cracks, and painted walls, ceiling , wood on lower half of wall installed new light fixtures, doorbell and much more.

We had requested they look at our master bath for remodeling and updating. Came to the house close to the appointment time, and spent some time in discussing with us various options. We were told we would have drawings, etc. in about 1 weeks time. After 10 days, we sent an email requesting the drawings and plans, plus a bid amount. About 1 week later, we did receive a drawing via email (which was fine with us), but noticed the shower head was in the wrong place. Notifed them of this, and quickly had a new drawing for the shower. Our master bath plans had very little in the way of structural change, and then received a cost estimate of almost $30,000 for a bath about 8 x 12. We decided that was way out of line with 2 other bids and as such, did not utilize their services.

Response from Swanson Renovations, LLC
Thank you for taking the time to review our company. It is unfortunate when we lose a project, but we are happy to see that you found someone else. It would have been nice to receive a call or email with you concerns. I believe there might be a little miscommunication over the scope of work that we bid. Please include the design renderings in your review for others to see. In our defense the bathroom is 16.5' X 12" to include the closet being renovated as well. Also, the estimate included renovating the 16.5' X 13.5' master bedroom. The estimate was $26,197.04 and not the 30K mentioned in the review. This is not a simple update. The design called for major renovations. All of our estimates are itemized for clients to all costs and prioritize the project. I am always happy to go through an estimate and clarify any concerns. Below is the original estimate. Best regards, Chad Swanson Swanson Renovations, LLC Some of the upgraded features that added cost to the bottom line: 1. Changing a standard interior door to a frosted glass pocket door. New framing of load bearing wall. 2. Major relocating of plumbing to accommodate a modern freestanding tub and floor mounted tub spout. The drain and water supply lines need to be relocated in the foundation. Minor concrete work needed. 3. Relocating the vanity sink and faucet plumbing within the wall to new layout. 4. Fabrication and installation of 13.5' linear feet of stain grade maple cabinetry. 5. Scrape master bedroom ceilings, install drywall/tape/bed/texture at new pocket door location, paint walls and ceilings color change (2) coats. Chad provided an amazing set of design renderings for a covered patio for us. When he came out, he was prompt, courteous and full of good ideas. He listened well to us and what we wanted, and designed accordingly. We got the design back with a short turn around, and it was exactly what we had discussed, as well as some other creative ideas that we loved. We have put off the actual construction for now, but hope to work with him in the future. I highly recommend this company and their entire team.

We hired Swanson Renovations to do a plan/layout of our kitchen at a house we were in process of purchasing that needed a major overhaul on the kitchen/breakfast/dining room areas. After Chad did the graphic design presentation we were amazed with the results and design. We decided to go forward and have Swanson Renovations take care of the project. All of Swanson's employees were beyond professional and we really felt as if they treated our house like their own, in making sure that everything done was done perfect. As the project progressed we even asked them to take on some of the smaller task in which we were going to do ourselves as the 'end product' of everything they had done at our house was great looking. During our project they kept the 'construction zone' very clean and tidy which from my past/current experiences on other remodels/projects is not a common trait of some other contractors. We were very pleased with all the products/materials used on our house. The complete experience was a great one and we would definitely use Swanson Renovations again.
Description of Work: Swanson Renovations took care of the design of the kitchen/dining room/ and breakfast area. They took care of demolition, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, wall removal, beam installation, cabinetry, painting/texturing, and finish out of entire area.

My husband and I first called Chad for his design services because we heard such wonderful things about him from friends of ours who are also clients of his. As soon as we saw the designs he had created for our Kitchen and Master Bathroom we knew we had made the right choice. Chad has a unique design eye and he could see the possibilities of what our Kitchen and Master Bath could be even when we could not. Our home is older, with many unique architectural challenges which made it all the more impressive that Chad was able to design the modern open concept kitchen and unique bathroom we had envisioned. Once we approved the designs and budget Chad's team went right to work, and much to our delight, finished the project on time and right on budget! Chad and his entire staff was courteous, professional and always available to answer any questions that I had. Chad's quality workmanship and unique touches allowed me to have the kitchen and master bathroom I always wanted. The entire experience was pleasant and there is no one else I would ever even consider using in the future. If you want it done right the first time, make sure you use Chad and his team at Swanson Renovations!
Description of Work: Swanson Renovations did a complete remodel on my Kitchen and master bathroom. Replaced, cabinets, countertops, flooring and removed wall in kitchen. Master bath was replaced from the ground up, new walls (old walls were saggy with mold behind them) new tub, new tile, new cabinets, countertops and shower. Both the kitchen and master bath were repainted and updated with Chad's unique design touches. Everything was done on time and budget.

Plans were finally sent to me and they looked pretty good. If I had really wanted him to provide the work for the renovation, I would have needed more input into the design, but as I said above, I don't think it would have been fair for me to waste his time. I do think Chad is a nice guy who just became overwhelmed.
Description of Work: I purchased the Big Deal for a proposed bathroom remodel. He came out to look at out bathroom and discuss ideas, but I never received any kind of drawing/plan on the remodel. He told me he had been swamped with people signing up for his deal and that Angie's List had sent it to people out of his region, but he promised he would get the proposal done. I told him I wasn't in a big hurry, so not to worry. Apparently, he took that as a license to not honor his Angie's List commitment to the BIg Deal. It was a very disappointing experience. HOWEVER, once I posted a negative review, he did contact me and seemed sincerely sorry for dropping the ball. He did send us a computer plan of a potential bathroom remodel and it seemed to have been done well. I liked most of what he had drawn. Because of the pricing and the fact that I knew we were not going to use him for a remodel, I did not ask him to change or redraw anything. I didn't think it was fair to waste his time or use his talent just to choose another person to do the actual remodel work.

Had to reschedule the appointment but once he identified what I wanted he drew up the plans very quickly. The drawing was 3D and left no room for doubt about what could be done.
Description of Work: I had a kitchen blueprint drawn up and it was excellent! Many creative ideas were added to my long list of 'must haves'. We could not afford to have the kitchen redone but could not have had a more elegant plan drawn up.

th r as for June 20th Appnt on June 20th went well. I did notice that Chad did not ask me what I liked in colors and that bothered me later. I did mention some colors that I had been considering, however, I would change my mind after a few days and therefore I needed outside help in determining what would look good, especially on the kitchen cabinets. He drew new built in cabinets, using the wrong size of window which throws off being able to picture this small area in reality. Chad was friendly, neat and prompt. and spent ample time on the appnt., so I was excited to find someone that could help me. It is now Sept 10th and we have made no progress.
Description of Work: June 6th =Even though the initial contact was quick and pleasant, the appointment was not timely due to the heavy response he said that they received from the ad. We scheduled the appnt for June 20th and time was spent discussing my kitchen and den changes. He promised to get back with me in a timely manner with ideas and colors. I did hear from him late July saying he was going on vacation from Aug 1st for two weeks and was apologizing for not having done any drawings prior to this date. I quickly wrote him back saying that he had not drawn my areas correctly and that it was difficult to imagine the changes that we discussed, plus no color was used for me to select from. My disappointment was that I never thought it was going to take months to get ideas to consider. As far as costs, I have no idea, since we have not gotten that far. I am still waiting to see colors that I can use on my kitchen cabinets. I am not angry, but very disappointed that it has taken months of waiting for attention to my small project. Personally, I feel they were not prepared to run their ad if they had vacation plans in mind. They should limit the number for each ad so that they could handle their clients in a more timely manner next time. I have received a phone call from Chad that I now need to return today.

I think I started meeting with Chad in February and we started the job in May. I was in no real hurry and I wanted everything just right before I jumped in. We had numerous meetings and exchanged alot of ideas back and forth. Chad has alot of expertise and ideas and he is a whiz at his computer drawings. I literally had a very accurate picture of what the end result was going to be. He is very collaborative and resourceful. I am very specific on alot of things that I want and how I want them to turn out. He worked very very hard to make this happen. There were a couple of glitches but we got through it. I do think he is one of the most conscientious people I have every met in this professional and that goes for Carter (his right hand man) too. They are a fantastic team. I moved out of my master area and into my guest area for about 6-8 weeks while the job was being done. I had a new lock put on the back door and they came and went as they needed. I was very appreciative of so many things. Their prep work was more than outstanding, actually unprecedented. They used alot of plastic, zipper walls, and cardboard to protect everything. It was quite impressive. They really cared about keeping the mess to a minimum and they cleaned up so well each and every day. They also had a cleaning crew come in after they were finished just to make sure everything was cleaned up. Chad was very flexible on changes, even though I didn't have many. I would hire him again just because I think he is a pretty honest guy and has many of the characteristics, personal and professional, that I look for in people that work for me. I have had great people do work for me and a few I would just as soon forget. I did my homework. I interviewed about 4 people for this remodel and Chad had the best ideas, patience, work ethic and responsiveness. Given this type of work, remodeling, it can be a scary thing to turn part of your house over to someone. I am very glad I took advantage of one of Angie's Big Deals and had Chad come out and show me what he could do. I would recommend him to anyone. I would also offer advice to anyone doing a remodel that it is a team effort and it is incumbent upon you to follow up, communicate everything (especially the little things) and ask questions and for me it was also going with my gut feeling. Chad is not a hard-sale and I appreciated that also. He is confident in his ability and his products and he has every reason to be. If you have to wait on him because he is busy then I say he is worth the wait. I did have someone else do my cabinets. Chad tried very hard to replicate what I had done in my kitchen (just with different colors) but it just didn't work. My standards for my cabinets were extremely high and the painter that I had used for my kitchen was phenomenal, he really is an artist. Tony at Prestige Painting did my cabinets and I have a review on him also under Prestige Painting.
Description of Work: This was a master bath remodel. Originally, I had a foundation of mostly white (sinks, tub cabinets), with light colored tiles and accents of purple. I did a dramatic 180 degree change. The new look was to be a foundation black, gray, white, crystal and silver. The job turned out perfectly and I could not be happier with it. The walls were painted a gray metallic with a glitter overlay that is subtle yet has hints of sparkle. The counter top is now something like a granite/silestone product. I had cultured marble put in the shower because I wanted the solid one piece slabs on the wall AND they were able to color match the tile I had picked out. It took several tries to get it exactly right but Chad is very very good with color. I asked Chad to find me a medallion to go in the floor and he wasn't sure he could do that but the next day he called me and had found a website where basically you can customize anything like this just the way you want it (size, shape, materials, color). I got a 36 inch round medallion that went so well with the counter top it almost looks like it is made out of the same material. The medallion is a very dramatic feature on the floor surrounded with a custom tile job that just turned out fantastic. It is absolutely gorgeous.Chad had some great ideas for accent tiles and I used a mosaic and linear tile mixed in with the floor tile for a very elegant look. I also used the mosaic tile as an accent around the tub backsplash and in between a chair railing area. The linear tile went in the shower in one of the corners that extended out 2 feet either side of the crease. That, in combination with the pebble stone floor, gives the illusion of a water fall. I also had him make a little cubby hole in a half wall that is part of the shower (I believe in maximizing every ounce of space). It is so perfect for all my products and gets everything in one spot and out of the way and is not even noticeable when you open the shower door. I went with a "taffeta" glass for the shower and it is the perfect style to flow with everything else in the new bathroom. The dilemma was that this particular pattern of glass is not available in a frameless shower (which I really wanted) so I had to go with a semi frameless which worked out totally fine because of the brushed nickel faucets and hardware on the cabinets. I have pictures and will include them in this review.
