Platinum Painting was great! Eddie's consultations went well and he was very helpful in figuring out colors and cost. We had to postpone from last fall due to foundation shifting and we moved straight ahead with the work in May. Edwin and his team did an excellent job fixing foundation cracks and drywall imperfections and painting walls, ceilings, and trim. They covered flooring, furniture, etc. and cleaned up after the job. Job took two days to finish four rooms of drywall repair, and wall, ceiling, and trim painting. They were very receptive to my feedback. Very friendly, professional, and courteous. I was working from home during the entire job and they were very respectful. Great team, company, and customer service. Scheduling was easy too. Would definitely recommend.
They moved furniture, fixed nail holes from the pictures we removed, covered the floors with paper and even built a full on plastic tent around the kitchen when they sprayed the cabinets. They gave us lots of tips and were very considerate of us. We spent every night in the house, one night in one of the guest rooms :)
We'd use them again anytime,
Miguel did an excellent job with the estimate and being flexible with the project start date, as we had multiple conflicts that came up on short notice.
The crew was outstanding. Very professional. They were polite, respectful, quiet, neat and extremely helpful over what turned into a 5 day project. I would want Miguel, Juan, Alfredo, Eric (and the other gentlemen who's name I can't remember) back on the next job. Great team. They are an asset to Platinum.
*****THIS SHOULD BE THE ONLY PHONE CALL YOU MAKE*****
From the initial phone call with Randy to the final walk through and payment, everything went smoothly. Randy (and Chris) were so professional and helpful!! The team that he brought in to paint were also very professional. I can't express how AWESOME my house looks now :o)
Thank you again Platinum Painting!
So, what went wrong? I think a couple of things:
1. Overshooting the timeline: They quoted 3 days as the time taken to complete the job. At the end of it all, it took close to 2 weeks.
2. Lack of Quality: The root cause was a terrible finish job of the paint which pretty much had a knock off effect on the rest of the job. On Day 2, when I came to look at the paint job, there were places that putty wasn't applied and almost NO sanding was done. They basically did the putty and sanding on about 4 doors and ignored the rest. They pretty much spray painted the entire thing without paying any attention to detail. The initial expectation was that ALL hinges would be covered so that the silver finish on the hinges would remain. That was not the case, they applied a cover to some hinges but on the rest, again, the attention to detail was so miserable that it pretty much ruined a lot of the hinges
3. Attention to Detail: Because the painters did an extremely poor job on the paint, they dragged out the rest of job too. So when it came to applying the glaze to give the cabinets an antique look, some of the doors had an even finish and some of them didn't. What made it worse was that of the 3 that were on the job, 1 of them had the skills and the other 2 were still learning or not too experienced.
4. No supervision on site: so the painters always did an uneven job and never really focused on quality. A lot of the corrections were done after I would visit and walk through the project with Randy. A strong supervisor would have easily caught a lot of the glaring quality issues.
5. Extremely poor customer service: the last straw was when I received a call from Jorge (or George), who's their Director or Operations. I've used about 4 vendors from Angie's list and this is by the far the only instance that I truly regret using Angie's list. He single highhandedly ruined the entire experience. Not only was he rude, he was aggressive for no reason. And all this from a person who was back from vacation, did not know about the poor quality of the job onsite and had the temerity to demand payment for something that wasn't even complete. During our first conversation, he even said that "this is an artistic process, so we need you to be onsite to make sure the painters are doing it right" and this is the first I even heard of this requirement. Not to mention, I was there multiple times in the week to make sure feedback was given. It just goes to show how much he knew about what was happening on the ground or how much his people communicated with him.
I think the conversation with Jorge was an extremely distasteful one, because I requested that I did not want to speak with him going forward and only deal with Randy, which made him all the more defensive. I don't get it, I'm the customer. I'm paying for the job, and I got extremely poor quality. Wouldn't I have the right to want it corrected or at least deal with someone who understands the job? Because the job was quoted at $4000, I only paid $3500 till they completed the job. Even for the 'touch up' that was done, the painters showed up for 2 hours after which they stopped and said they had to be elsewhere.
I get it. Every job is different, but then have the humility to accept that the job wasn't of the highest quality. I believe Randy when he says that Karl (who's the owner) believes that customer satisfaction is paramount because Randy is the one guy who was a joy to work with and truly stood for customer service. I think Platinum would do a good job, if you were onsite supervising full time or for more simpler paint jobs rather that something as specialized as this.
