The electrician arrived at the appointment time. He got right to work and gave us an estimate for the work that needed to be done, as well as prioritizing for us which items needed to be taken care of sooner (i.e., safety issues) and which ones could wait. Once we decided what to have done, he completed the work. His communication skills were excellent, and we felt he was honest with us. I would recommend this company.
Description of Work: We needed some electrical work done prior to moving into our new house.

It was an okay experience. We had installed a new air handler (a/c and heating) in a room above our garage that we will use as a shop. We needed 220 power run to the outside and inside units. The rep arrived within the 3 hour window I reserved on the 26th to give an estimate for the job. I gave him the number of the A/C supplier to call about installation requirements. He took 1 hour and 45 minutes to walk the whole thing through, read the A/C unit installation manual, check our current box and set up and recommended two options for us to consider. He reviewed the pros and cons of each option. I felt no pressure to choose one or the other. When I chose the separate breaker box, he took into account the $25 coupon and the service call charge ($39) to arrive at a final price. He explained three options for payment timing (all at once, four equal payments or 12 month 0% interest financing through a finance company) and methods (check, credit card, or the above mentioned company). He asked when I was available for the work to be done and we agreed on the next day. When I asked, he told me he would be here between 9 and 10 am. That evening the A/C provider called and said he never got a call from the electrician. I mentioned the electrician quoted us a 60 amp breaker and the A/C guy said that was not right. The next morning the company called about 8:50 am to say the electrician was on his way. At 9:59 the electrician called and said he would be here in 15 to 20 minutes. At 10:05 I called the company and said I'd been told by the electrician that he would be here between 9 and 10 am and he hadn't shown but he had called saying he was delayed. I asked if this qualified for the "if we're late, it's free" guarantee. He initially said yes then looked up the job and said that my appointment window as actually between 9 and noon so it didn't qualify. When the electrician arrived at 10:10 am, I told him the concerns we had about the proper breaker and asked him to call the A/C guy. He did this after consulting with his master electrician and once more reviewing the A/C unit. They agreed on the actual needs, the electrician told me the manufacturer had installed a disconnect switch with the wrong number of amps and that they had solved the issue by agreeing to install an outside disconnect switch with the correct amps. He did not change his quote because the equipment change out was for items of similar cost. While completing the job, the electrician made some suggestions for rewiring in light of a second breaker box. I accepted some and not others. The price was adjusted accordingly. When running power to the outside unit, the electrician found where the a/c company had cut wires and patched them back together. He fixed them after the a/c company agreed to pay his charges. He was unable to finish that day and we scheduled another time. When the next time came he didn't show. I called the company after the window (12 to 3) had passed. They contacted him and he told them he had tried to call me several times to inform me of a delay. I had been home all day and hadn't received a call. I checked my cell phone and there was ONE call from him leaving a message to call him back. I did. He didn't answer. I called the company back, they called him, he called me and eventually arrived at 4:10 pm. There was no mention of that day's work being free and I didn't pursue it as I just wanted the work done. I would probably use them again if they were as prompt or as diligent in pursuing promptness as their advertising suggests but I've used two other electricians which were just as competent without the hedging around on when they'd be here: Awesome Electric and On Time Electric.
Description of Work: installed a second breaker box, ran line to it, ran two 220 lines from it to new A/C unit, hooked up A/C unit to power, rerouted power from two existing circuits to new breaker box. Repaired damage done by a/c installer.

When service was requested, the scheduler quoted a fee for the call. I understood this was a minimum to be adjusted for the actual work performed. When the technician understood the work needed, he quoted a price that was about twice the amount of the service call charge, so I thought that was the total cost. When he wrote the invoice, he added the work charge to the service call fee so the total was 3 times the service call amount. The work required about 15 minutes to complete. I believe the total charge of $200.00 was very expensive and not a good value.
Description of Work: As part of service call, technician surveyed main electrical panel to evaluate code compliance. Work requested was addition of outlet to a circuit box located on the patio.

On time, very professional, well mannered. However, it was a hard sell all the way. Very over priced. Luckily, my neighbor is a retired electrician and came over while the technician was pitching the hard sell. He strongly recommended that I get at least a 2nd estimate. I did and saved 2,800 dollars over their highest priced option and over 500 dollars on their cheapest option. If cost is not an issue they seem to be very professional.
Description of Work: It was only for an estimate but since I had to pay for it. I do consider it a service.

Response from Mister Sparky Electrical
I appreciate your kind review. As the nation’s largest residential electrical service and repair company, it is our goal to make sure that our electricians are exactly what you described; on time, professional and well mannered. Every one of our technicians is handpicked and trained to provide you with the best possible service and up to date repair options or replacement options. We try to educate our customers on why these problems occur as well as offer different repair options - when possible, so that our clients can make an informed decision. I can assure you that it is not our intent to be pushy or hard sell a customer and I apologize for you feeling this way. There are many factors in giving repair options that our electricians must look at. Your safety is our foremost concern. I believe in this particular situation, your safety was our concern and this was perceived as sales. When we make a repair or replacement, you can rest assured that all work will be done in a workman like manner and meet the latest national electrical and local code requirements. We also pride ourselves in not using aluminum wire for any type of repair or replacement in your home, especially the main electrical service that was involved with your particular job. I am not sure what the company’s standards are that did the work for you, but I do know ours. If we were to compare apples to apples with a reputable company, our pricing is usually right on. Our lowest price option would have included moving the meter can down slightly to bring it to Centerpoint’s minimum service standard requirements. Even though we could have replaced the existing obsolete meter can with a new one and had it be a few inches over the maximum height, we would not want our company to be liable of an improper installation or cause you any problems in the future. When Centerpoint Energy’s minimum service standard requirements are not met, they do reserve the right not to reconnect you due to a disconnection, storm repair or even a new customer moving into your home if you ever decided to sell. Thank you for your feedback, we really appreciate it and will use this as yet another training opportunity for our staff. Cordially, Richard Hodge

The technician that came out was incredibly professional, courteous and he knew his business very well. He usually checks the main fuse panel and instead of just looking to see if the switches had tripped, he actually pulled the cover off and checked the wiring. He noticed that a lot of the wiring wasn?t done to the current standards and he got things corrected. He also had to patch over the areas where the insulation was ripped off by the sheeting company when they cut a square hole in the wall for the main fuse. This was a major ordeal which I never knew existed and because of his thorough work, he saved me a potentially dangerous problem. He replaced the whole wire and everything has been fine ever since. I have a lot of respect and regard for him. The other thing that he does is itemizes the way they approach the job upfront along with the costs before he does any work.

Went very well. I called and was lucky enough to get a same day appointment. The service man showed up in a truck with all the necessary parts to complete the job. He had to repeatedly crawl into my blazing hot attic during the heat of the day but he worked at it and got the electrical line moved. The company only sends out licensed electricians and he performed an inspection of the electricial of my home as part of the package with recommended upgrades (with no commitments to buy). The information was very helpful. When the job was done, the workman cleaned up. The best part is if they are late or the job is not done right - it is free.

My husband and friend are building a built-in entertainment cabinet in my formal living room. The area where the wall is contained a light that we will no longer need and we needed outlets for future electronics. Tony arrived on time, put on booties so not to mess up my carpet and checked things out before he started any work. He took time to understand the plans that were drawn and future use of the new built in. He made several suggestions that will save me money and time in the long run by installing the future switch and wiring for the cabinet lights. We discussed things like Christmas decorations and how the electrical would be the most versatile not only for me but any future owner of my home. After completing all the tasks, he cleaned everything up nicely. When it was time to pay, he even offered special financing.
Description of Work: Move and install outlets in entertainment cabinet, install future switch and wiring for cabinet lights and fixed outlet that was shorting out.
