UPDATE: I noticed Mister Sparky's response to my review. So, here's my response to that. The day after Mister Sparky came out and gave me their outrageous bid, I called another another company which sent out a master electrician with 20+ years experience who did the work in about three or four hours for a total cost of $500, which was LESS THAN ONE FIFTH of the price quoted by Mister Sparky. Mister Sparky's quote was seriously out of line with the competition. Based on the fact that it was maybe $200 worth of materials and it took about three or four hours for another electrician to complete the job, I calculate Mister Sparky's hourly rate to be somewhere around $750 to $850. I don't know a single person who makes anywhere near that kind of money, and certainly not any "trade" workers. ORIGINAL REVIEW: Ridiculously expensive, almost to the point of laughable. I had them come out for an estimate on a job that would probably take any reasonably decent electrician about 4 or 5 hours of their time and MAYBE $200-$300 in materials, and they handed me a bid that was $2,880 (which included the $25 coupon discount). Based on the relatively small amount of work I needed done, I figured the estimate would be about $400-$500 with materials included, so when I was handed an estimate "based on the book price" of nearly THREE GRAND, I almost fell over. But, hey, don't worry - they offer financing, just in case you want to pay their exorbitant rate over the course of several years. No thanks. I'll pass. On the upside, they showed up quickly and the technician was courteous and professional. I'll give them that much.
Description of Work: The work I needed done involved adding about 4 outlets (power is already sourced nearby) in two places, changing three light switches to dimmers, and installing 4 can lights in master bedroom (where the wiring is already in place). I paid $19 for the "service visit" which was really just an estimate.

Too soon to conlucde on the results but I assume that my breaker tripping problem has been resolved.
Description of Work: I had a new AC installed by One Hour Heating and AC little over a month ago and since that every now and then the 50 Amp AC breaker would trip. Per recommendation from the service tech from One Hour AC I called Mister Sparky - Aparently they are sister companies. I called and talked with their operator who although had limited knowledge was attentive. She scheduled me same day and within a couple of hours, the service tech showed up. The service tech was on time, knowledgeable and courteous. I explained all I needed was to have an old breaker replaced…however, per their company policy I had to listen to the sales pitch as to why my 30 year old home needs a new fuse box. Anyhow, long story short, the service tech installed two new 50 AMP GE breakers which you can pick up at any local hardware store at a cost of $35 for a pack of two. I got charged $400 to install two new fuses. Now I’m sure Mister Sparky will explain that there was a diagnostic fee which according to their price book was $189. So to break it down I paid $189 just to open the panel and diagnose (5 min) + $35 for two fuses + $176 to install two fuses (10 min). So $400 for a 15 min job! Now is that a deal or what?!?! From my prespective no diagnostic was needed as I told the service tech that the fuses needed to be replaced from the beginning. One more thing that annoyed me; It took 15 minutes to replace two fuses and then it took another 20 minutes for the service tech to write up a detailed report as to why the job he just performed will not be covered under warranty. The service tech was kind enough to leave me with a $5000 quote in case I decide to replace my entire fuse box. Most likely, I probably will not be calling them again for any future electrical needs. . Note my C rating is purely based on the fact that I believed I over paid to get two 50 AMP breakers replaced. I'm confident that Mister Sparky is a professional, expirence outfit with excellent customer service.

STAY AWAY! THEY ARE LYING! I called the company to see if I could get an estimate. The poor girl who answered the phone did not have a clue what she was doing. I feel bad. It's not her fault she obviously did not receive the training she needs for her position. I explained that I just got my home inspected and needed a simple job performed. I already had the description of the work written out by a professional. All I needed to know was how much it would cost to replace an electrical panel. After being put on hold for fifteen minutes, explaining my situation over and over, I finally got an email address to send the inspection report to. AS POSTED ON THIS SITE, I expected to get a free estimate on the work. I needed an estimate by the next day to take the seller's of the home the following day. I was told not to worry, I would have an estimate the next morning. After waiting all day for an email or a phone call, I finally called and explained the situation to someone else. He told me that they didn't do free estimates period. He kept insisting that he needed to send someone out to look at the problem and it would cost me $39. I told him it wouldn't take an electrician more than a minute or two to look at the report and tell me how much it would cost to get the work done. He absolutely refused to help me out without squeezing some money out of me. I was stuck without an estimation that I needed to provide in just 12 hours because they lied and said they would give one to me, then tried to charge me for services I did not need. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND FIND SOMEONE ELSE!
Description of Work: All I needed was an estimation of the work that needed to be done. I provided a full description written by a professional, with pictures, and they wouldn't give one to me without coming out to the house and charging me $39. It would not have taken more than two minutes for an electrician to look at the description and give a price. If they were really the best, they wouldn't worry about giving free estimations, because their prices would guarentee them business.

Our first mistake seems to be with our call taker. We have reviewed your call and agree – we will absolutely further our training to ensure this does not happen again. Furthermore, we miscommunicated with you. We pride ourselves on respecting our customers’ time; yet, in your case we dropped the ball. I am sorry we could not help you with what you wanted and I sincerely hope you did find what you needed with another company. In regards to the $39 service fee – that is a standard in our company to go to a customer’s home and give a hard price. It's been our experience that giving prices over the phone rarely works to anybody's benefit. There are almost always aspects to a job that cannot be explained over the phone, so we send a licensed electrician to the home in a fully-stocked truck to give a hard price that will not change once the job is started. We’ve found this to be a fair and beneficial way to do business for the customer and for us. In your specific circumstances I understand this can be frustrating - you had a description of what needed to be done. However, we simply cannot promise prices for work based on another’s inspection. As a comparison, a doctor could not give a prognosis based on another doctor’s diagnosis – he would want to view the patient and symptoms himself. In the same way, we cannot state the exact prices of the work needed to be done. This is not because we believe the person who wrote the report to be incompetent. We just want to make sure that we are not underpromising/overpromising on a price without seeing the issues firsthand. That being said, you had a bad experience with our company. Thus, we failed you. If there is anything we can do for you in the future, I ask that you do give us the opportunity to earn your business. Extremely misleading. The price quoted to diagnose the problem was not $39.99 but $450.00! Also, we called twice after the initial call to remind the staff a two story ladder would be needed to diagnose the problem and even after the calls, the repair man did not bring a ladder. I rated an overall D for two factors: 1) The service technician was friendly and respectful 2) Once we argued that we would not pay one cent, the "Service Call" fee was waived. Sorry, I don't have time for games like this.
Description of Work: No services were performed once the true value was brought to light. Very misleading company.

Sir, I apologize that we have failed you. We clearly let you down in regards to the ladder – for that, there is no excuse and I sincerely apologize. It seems also that we have communicated ineffectively with you and caused much frustration. Allow me to explain what should have been communicated to you from the beginning: The service fee ($39) is to travel to your home and visually evaluate the problem. If the issue is not obvious, an electrician will consider multiple causes of the problem at hand. In order to determine which of the possibilities is the culprit and repair it, he must test each possibility. This is often time-consuming and requires trained skill. Such diagnostics require that we charge over the service fee. It would be impossible to stay in business if we were to start taking things apart and testing multiple possibilities to diagnose a problem with only a $39 service charge. Electrical problems take a lot of training and experience to diagnose. They often cannot be seen and are very involved. I am sorry that we could not solve the problem that day and that you felt very misled, but that's why we have a 100% satisfaction guarantee. I called for an estimate. The person at the front desk ask for all the details of my job and scheduled the appointment. Mat the technician showed up on time. We went over what I wanted and he gave me a quote in writing. I agreed to the bid and scheduled the job. Very nice company.

.It was great. I described what technician did in paragraph above and really nothing left to say. I had to have electrician in my house on a specific date and at a specific time to coordinate with contractor building my pantry. Mr. Sparky did this without a hitch. it was great.
Description of Work: had 2 new can lights installed in pantry that is being built. Tony, Mr Sparky technician, worked around and contractor building the pantry to get the lights where they were needed. He also inspected service panel and found several problems which he fixed, he added a whole house surge protecter that I had wanted since I watched Holmes on Homes and repaired several outdoor outlets. It was hot and he worked in and out of the attic. Did a great job. Everything was done quickly and to my satisfaction. Several days ago the company sent me a dozen chocolate chuck cookies in the mail. What a surprise and a wonderful treat. As promised, technician arrived on time and with everything he needed. Had an experience with another major company early last summer. Technician was an electrician and knew before he arrived what he was to do and what supplies I already had to move security lights outside (2) and add another light. Technician had no supplies, not even wire and on the clock had to go to buy supplies. Never again. Will always call Mr. Sparky.

The electrician was very professional and informative, and made sure to go the extra mile to get the job done right., even during those thunexpected things part of any major job.It took about 7 hours start to finis.
Description of Work: I called because one of my circuits was not working, expecting to replace a breaker/The electrician arrived and told me that my panel needed to be repleced.Inspecting my house, he told me that my GFCI breakers also needed replacing.He got the bad circuit up, and set a date for the total replacement..

I called another electrical company and they ignored my message for 24 hours. Mister Sparky made an imediate appointment and called before heading to my house. He explained the damage and provided multiple options. They did charge for an evaluation and service call that I thought was extremely expensive. Nearly $400 between the two. It was an after hour service call though. The repair was scheduled for the next morning. As for the service. The electrician was considerate and explained the requirements of the job. He completed the work and when he ran into a problem, he called to give an update and explain the solution without increasing the price. He actually called the A/C when he was done to ensure they had a chance to complete the A/C by the end of the day.
Description of Work: I had a lightening strike nearby and it damage the breaker box and air conditioner unit. They repaired the breaker box.

They arrived on time and explained their services in complete fashion. Then did a total house diagnostic including checking the attic for violations to code. Found a number of issues which have now been corrected. Authorized the work and the first guy brought in some assistance and got the job done between 9 and 2pm. Fast and effeicent.
Description of Work: Updated and brought whole system up to code and installed whole house surge protector. Fixed out of code violations and breaker box issues. Installed new GFI outlets with new ones that are currently required and replaced a number of outlets and switches that were not functioning properly any more.

Overall I was satisfied. I was pleased with the ease in setting up appt, the punctuality of the electrician and his knowledge of my issues. I am, however, on a fixed budget and thought the work was pricey for just replacing 2 wall outlets. He asked me how I found out about their company and I told him Angie's List and he did not mention any discount that I believe I saw on Angie's list when I originally pulled them up. If price is not an issue, I would highly recommend this company.

The tech that came out was on time and very professional. I showed him the items I wanted to get an estimate one and he took down all the info, checked out the attic space etc so he could give me a proper estimate. This process took almost 1 hour. When we sat down for the estimate I was told about their "club service plan". I did not realize they had "set" rate prices for various categories of work. I was shown the "club price" and the regular price. Both prices in my opinion were VERY expensive. I did not have them do any work that day - although the tech was persistent in getting me to let him do something. I said no thank you, paid my "consult estimate fee" and let him go.
Description of Work: To get estimate for various jobs i.e. install ceiling fan, move switch outlets, add additional door bell etc.

Work is now completed, but I have been given no copy of warranty. I have made several calls and messages with no reply. Cost was expensive, parts and supplies cost few hundred as compaired to total charge.
Description of Work: I had the PVC pipes and underground wire from house to electrical box changed.
