I hired an electrician to do the job because in these older houses, the fittings in the ceiling don't always match the hardware that you get in the new light fixture, and this was indeed the case. The electrician had in his van whatever extra parts were needed and he did a careful job of installing the lights. He even spent 15 minutes in his van doing paperwork while I raced up to Lowe's to buy some medallions (the old ones didn't fit the new fixtures). He used little paper booties on his shoes inside the house. I really like that! The fixtures are up and working well.

My electrician was running late because of prior appointments but I was made aware of this with plenty of warning during the service window (unlike every other service technician I have ever used) and given the option to reschedule or wait. I elected to wait and the electrician was excellent. She provided great service that was quick and professional. She gave me the pros and cons of my installation options and let me select the best to fit my budget and needs. I would absolutely use Mister Spark again.

We had an AC company come out to look at our grandparents house and tell us in order to repair the AC units we had to first call an electrician come out and replace the breaker box. I found Mister Sparky on Angie's List and we couldn't be happier! They came out the same day we called and finished all the work in the same day. The electrician they sent was Phillip. He was VERY helpful, professional and polite. He gave us three different options (varying in price and work) while explaining them all to us in detail. Phillip had to leave for a couple hours to help on another job so he had another gentlemen out to keep working and he was just as kind, polite and professional as Phillip! Everything has been working great and it looks great! I'm very happy we could find a professional honest company for our grandparents.

The person who came was totally incompetent. He came in to my garage. I talked to him and I agreed that he would put a whole new unit for the whole house. It is a 4500-square foot house. The electrical work is very important and needs to be done correctly. First of all, he was in the garage doing work and I didn't stand around, so I went in the house. When I came back, he had ripped off all the shelves off the walls. It is still over there. I was wondering what happened there. He had whole house labeled incorrectly. I had the city inspector came and he said it was all wrong. I went back to them. I asked them what was going on there. I can't have this man working in the house. He didn't take it off right off. They checked the license and didn't work out. I put in American express card and it worked for me. Finally, they sent another person who straightened everything out. The management did feel really responsible. They said they would put the shelves back on, but they never did so. Some of the wires are still not labeled correctly.

I had an issue with no electricity going to two rooms of my home. I figured it was a tripped circuit, breaker however I was brand new to the home and did not know how to reset these particular breakers. I had tried to do it a couple of times with no luck and felt that it was too minor of an issue to call the home warranty company, so at the urging of a co-worker I tried Mr. Sparky. They were very punctual and kind however, I was astounded when upon looking at my breaker box, the electrican told me that I would need to have all the breakers replaced because they couldn't be reset. He also told me my home grounding was inadequate and would need to be replaced, too. I found it odd because I had just purchased the home and none of this had been brought up during the home inspection. The electrician told me that I probably had a bad home inspection and warned me that I needed to get these things corrected immediatedly. The total was going to be about $1000. Upon hearing that quote, I decided to involve my home warranty company. Their electrican came out and showed me how to reset the breakers (apparently with this type you have to push them in and then flip). Just like that, the lights were back on! Also, he said that nothing was the matter with my grounding unless, I just wanted to upgrade to a newer type of grounding. However, he didn't see a need to do that until the other one was a little more dated (the home is only 7 years old). The home warranty electrician said that he felt bad even charging me the $75 "trade fee" for how minor of a service he performed, but had to due to the terms of my contract. Basically, what I discovered, was that Mr. Sparky tried to take advantage a new, young, female homeowner to the tune of $1000. I'm just glad I went ahead and called the home warranty company! Its been several months now, and I've had no issue with the tripped breaker and I still have my $1000.

Description of Work: Called out for breaker keeps tripping. Found that the breaker to the master bedroom would trip occasionally. Performed a single circuit diagnostic and found no problems with the outlets and switches. When I was removing the the 15A arc-fault breaker, the natural feel out of the lug. Installed a new 15A arc-fault combo and the master bedroom is working correctly.

I had existing wiring but wanted to replace 5 outlets in my kitchen: three 110v and two 240v. Very simple job. I called for an estimate. They said I had to pay a service fee of $59 for someone to come and tell me how much it would cost. Whoever pays for an estimate is crazy.

I called Mister Sparky to come out and give me an estimate for some electrical work I needed done in my 1920's home I bought a few months ago. To my dismay, they charged a fee just to come out and give me an estimate. I wasn't happy about that, but the fee was fairly minimal so I agreed to have someone come out and look at what I needed done. Even though I decided not to go with them to do the work I needed done, I was actually glad I had someone come out. That is because their service fee to have someone come out for an estimate included a whole house evaluation. Matthew, the electrician that came out, di a complete evaluation of my home - top to bottom. He brought to my attention several items of poor workmanship (probably prior DIY projetcts) that were not done to code. He even found some very concerning items in the attic that needed fairly quick attention/repair. I realized then, that the service fee for the estimate was well worth it because I found out things in regards to my electric items in my house that the inspector didn't even catch. As I said, I ultimately decided to go with another company for my work - I am very glad that I called Mister Sparky to come and and bid on the project - the whole house electrical inspection was well worth the fee to have them come out in the first place.
Description of Work: i called Mister Sparky for an estimate for some work I needed done. A rep cam out and did a whole home inspection and then quoted me on the work I needed. The quote was decent, I just decided to go with another company. I will still consider Mister Sparky for any future work I need.

Was prompt but would not let him back in my house. Tried to sell us a bunch of stuff that was not needed. Told us that there was major problems and we needed to purchase equipment at a large price. My Brother is Electrician and I told the tech that I was going to run by my brother before we did anything. Good thing, he checked and we needed none of the suggested repairs. Would not let them back in my house.

It was overwhelming. I sure they do a good job but I just cannot afford their price. They sent out two guys and they were very nice, very professional and they presented their services in an expert manner, but bottom line was the price for me. I went with someone who was less expensive.

They did a wonderful job, better than great. They completed the job on time despite it raining, and they did all they could to minimize the downtime for our electrical service and coordinating with Centerpoint. I suspect the main reason for everything going so well was the guy that managed the project, Dennis Pertolanitz - he was excellent.
Description of Work: Main objective was to make way for swimming pool installation, but while they were here I had them do a number of extra items; some of which should have been done when the house was built. The main house panel was undersized, so we replaced it with one twice as big. The two story, 3-car garage only had one measly 15 amp circuit for everything, so we added a new panel for 150 amp service and 30 circuits (probably overkill, but I have a lot of tools and may also want to charge electric car someday). And the most important item was relocating the meter to the opposite side of property, coordinating with Centerpoint for a new aerial drop and underground connection from new meter (also upgraded meter from 200 to 320 amps) to main house panel. A few smaller items included new outdoor GFCI receptacles in 3 locations.

I saw on their website, http://www.electricianhouston.com/ that they were offering $39 for Standby service. They said that they wouldn't guarantee that they would honor the discount prices that I saw on their web page. She put me on hold and spoke with a supervisor. Then she asked what the web address was that I had, but would not let me speak with the supervisor or the owner of the company. I couldn't believe that they are not aware of deals they have listed on their own site, that the person on the phone doesn't know their web address, and that she wouldn't let me talk to a superior either. I will obviously not be considering their service.

I contacted Mr. Sparky at approximately 6pm on a Sunday evening when I lost power to half of my house. The weather was rainy and cold (about 40 degrees) and of course the half of the house that went out was also the half that the thermostats were on. Mr. Sparky sent out Jeremy who arrived at about 8:00pm which was the time my appointment was set for. Jeremy identified that only half of the circuit box was getting power and that we were going to have to call the utility company to unlock the meter. Jeremy CALLED THE UTILITY COMPANY ON MY BEHALF so that he could explain exactly what was going on. After the utility company unlocked the meter Jeremy was able to repair the cable and restore power to my home. He was fantastic!

Description of Work: replaced my 200 amp indoor panel and go with a Cutler Hammer ultra surge protector. Technician did all the labeling for each breaker. He waived the service fee and allowed me to use my $ 29.00 coupon from Angie's list. The panel with the breakers has a 20 year fully transferable warranty. The surge protector has a 7 year warranty through Mister Sparky and lifetime warranty through Cutler Hammer.

They seem nice and professional - but won't give any pricing over the phone? They tell me what it cost to get someone to my house (btwn $49 and $99) but that doesn't include any work! Why would I waste my time waiting and money for an electrician without even an estimate of what the job may cost. I explained exactly what I needed done and every other company has been able to at least give an estimated cost window. This raises a big red flag for me.

It's been our experience that giving prices over the phone rarely works to anybody's benefit. There are almost always aspects to a job that cannot be explained over the phone, so we send a licensed electrician to the home in a fully-stocked truck to give a hard price that will not change once the job is started. We’ve found this to be a fair and beneficial way to do business for the customer and for us. In your specific circumstances I understand this can be frustrating - you had a description of what needed to be done. However, we simply cannot promise prices for work based on another’s inspection. As a comparison, a doctor could not give a prognosis based on another doctor’s diagnosis – he would want to view the patient and symptoms himself. In the same way, we cannot state the exact prices of the work needed to be done. We just want to make sure that we are not underpromising/overpromising on a price without seeing the issues firsthand. Again, I appreciate you submitting a review and taking the time to share with us where we need improvement. He bid the job almost $3000 higher than the bid I accepted...and their rep didn't perform a thorough evaluation of the home for the type of damage anticipated from a strike. He didn't evaluate the GFI's and he missed a totally fried electrical panel. I have requested a refund two different times and now months later...still no refund. They sent out the owner to eval and give me a bid...the bid arrived late. Electrical work is sooooo important but I cannot give any recommendation to use this company. I have given them ample time to correct their problems with no real resolution. Looks like it cost me to learn an important lesson.
