Brad checked out a/c and found compressor motor was dead. It was under warranty but had to be ordered. He put in a capacitor which made the a/c work and is still working. They still want to replace the motor because it is under warranty. He did a great job in a short time. We never got hot.

I contacted Brazos Valley Services after calling a few additional providers. One never returned my call and the other wanted to charge $289 for a Sunday evening service call. After getting in touch with Brazos Valley Services, they quoted me $99 for the service call on a SUNDAY evening and informed me that a technician would contact me within 15-30 minutes. I received a prompt response from the technician informing me that he would be at our house in a half hour. He showed up on time, located the problem quickly, and fixed a minor electrical issue. Due to it being such a minor problem with a quick fix, they only charged me for the service call and not a repair fee that would have been an extra $125. I would highly recommend Brazos Valley Services and will continue to use them for all of my future A/C and Heating needs. Thanks to a great company for great service!

Very professional and pleasant staff from confirmation calls to service man. I signed up for a "deal" and paid 48.00/unit for the service. Rich Young was careful to put on paper booties when inside the house and was quite particular about giving me a full report of what state the units were in. I would absolutely recommend these folks.
Description of Work: Cleaned and serviced two a/c units at my townhome. Units are on second story flat roof and a little tough to access.

Trucks arrived as scheduled. Rudi and the team removed the old system from the attic and replaced it with the new one. They did the same thing outside replacing the old unit with a 14 SEER unit. Since the system was so old, they had to replace the copper tubing connecting to the unit in the attic. The attic unit also contains the natural gas furnace. They also installed a new intake vent in one of the rooms that is isolated from the rest of the house. Throughout the entire process, they were careful and professional to the extreme. In fact, they came back to check that they had not inadvertently caused the hot water heater (also natural gas) was still working. Suddenly the house was cool! A week after installation Rich returned to check the installation and make sure everything was done correctly. As far as I can tell, they care about their customers. It's easy to get them on the phone, and they're quite responsive. Excellent job.

They waited until the last minuet to tell me they do not service my area. I scheduled the apointment a month ago and they should have told me they do not service my area then.

We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience. When we signed up to participate in Angie's List's "Big Deal" we were contracted to provide this discounted service to a limited area, which is specified on the "Deal." Only members within this territory were supposed to receive this deal, but unfortunately some people received this who weren't within the designated territory. Angie's List is more than happy to provide a full refund when a customer buys the deal by mistake. Our office staff should not have scheduled this call, but the girl who took the call was not aware of how far away La Porte was from our office (75 miles). When we reviewed our set appointments the week before (a common practice so that we can give customers plenty of notice if something comes up) we realized that this was scheduled by mistake, and our dispatcher called the customer immediately to let her know. We in fact let her know almost a week before her scheduled appointment, not the last minute. Angie's List is also great about helping members find similar deals in their area and we encourage you to do this! This has only happened twice where customers who were outside of our territory received this promotion by mistake and they were scheduled. We explained that this was out of our control and not part of our contract with Angie's List and both of them gave us "D" reviews even though the received a full refund.

They called to let me know they were running late with traffic. George was very professional and courteous of my property. Once he serviced my AC, I found out I had a problem with the drain line, he suggested a way to correct the problem. I ended up having issues with a clogged drain and George came back to fix issue. Very appreciated of their response time and resolution to get issue corrected.

I originally purchased a deal on Angie's List for them to clean my A/C unit. They did a through inspection and recommended my duct work be replaced. My house is about 30 years old and had original duct work. They showed pictures of the duct work and coils to me. The next day, they came to give me a bid on replacing the duct work. The installation was done the next day on a Saturday. They were punctual, professional and cleaned up afterwards.

Thank you for your “A” review. The duct systems we install are not like the average duct systems that most contractors install. They meet all the requirements of the new 2012 energy code. In addition they are insulated with R8 insulation (most ducts that are installed today are only R6). This does not allow the hot air from the attic to heat up the cool air inside your ducts before the air enters your home. (Your A/C won't have to work as hard) We install “green ducts” that have an antimicrobial coating that stops mold and mildew growth inside your duct system. This keeps the air you breathe inside your home healthy for you and your family. (It is amazing how gross the inside of ducts can get! And this is where the air flows before entering your home!) We also seal every duct connection and the ceiling where your grill connects to the ducts with a high pressure duct sealer. This keeps the cold air from being lost in the attic. (Again making your A/C more efficient) One more important thing, we install adjustable dampers in all your ducts so we can get the correct amount of air into each room of the house. (You guessed it, it makes your A/C more efficient) We back all this up with a Lifetime Warranty on the duct system. What all this means for you is your home is healthy, comfortable and energy efficient. We hope you enjoy your new duct system for many years and hope that you will soon see the value! I have been very pleased. You make an appointment and they tell you what technician will be there. They send you a picture so you know who is coming to your house. I was very impressed with that. The day of the service, the technician was polite and what I thought he was very thorough at the time. He spent 2 hours at my house, half the time outside the other half in my attic. I didn't follow him around, but instead allowed him to work. At the end of his service, like most technicians, he wrote up his report, tells me all of the problems my 8 year-old A/C units have (mostly how inefficient they are and that the builder installed them incorrectly which will cause them to die any day now) and all the services and prices that his company can provide. Most importantly, I recall the technician telling me that the unit that operates my upstairs was low on Freon and he added as much as he could at the time to make it run more efficiently. At the time, I thought I got a pretty good deal, because a tune up on 2 units would usually run over $200 and I got this at $98. One week following, I noticed the upstairs A/C under performing. Another week later (now 2-weeks from the tune-up) my upstairs' temperature 80 degrees and the thermostat set on 73. I called the provider and let them know that I think the technician did something or forgot to do something during the tune up. The customer service rep book the appointment and said that if it is not related they will have to charge me for a service call (I think she said $75). I went ahead and booked the appointment for 2-days out. The more I thought about it the more I felt distrust for this service provider. What if the technician purposely sabotaged my system to get a call back for a more expense service. So I went back to Angie's List, did a Sort for the best rated A/C companies and booked an appointment for the next day. (AirTech- which I was very please with and will right their awesome review next). When the other a/c company arrive, I told him the problem (not mentioning the tune up I had 2 weeks ago at first). He told me that it sounds like my coils have freeze up, which is typically caused by low Freon levels. He went to the unit outside and showed us the frost on the line, he then went to the attic and opened the coils and sure enough we had inches of ice on the coils. We then let him know about the tune up. He (Airtech) told us, that the unit in the attic where the coils are have not been opened probably since the builder installed them 8 years ago because he struggled getting it opened. He also told us that the Tune up provider probably did not put Freon in it too. If the Tune-up was completed correctly, the technician would have opened the coils saw the low pressure leak when he said he put Freon in the system. I then should him the report that I got after the tune up. He pointed out that the coils were not inspected, it said "no access" on the report. I'm trying not to ramble on too much, but to sum things up, AirTech spent the time to show us the unit, it's problems, and evidence that a real Tune-up never happened. Needless to say, I feel like I got ripped off, which is why I did not rate the price (I marked n/a). A TRUE A/C tune Up was definitely not performed by this company. What did I get for my $98. A sales pitch for all the other services Brazos Valley Services can provide as well as tell me stuff I already know about my unit that I got from the inspectors when I bought my house 2 months ago.

Our Angie's List Big Deal is very specific about what is done with the tune up. Our Technician went over and beyond and took over two hours to carefully perform all the steps of the tune up, he also gave the customer a written report of the results on a service ticket. The technician told the customer the upstairs unit needed Freon and probably had a leak (the tune up does not include a leak test and our technician did not have access to the entire coil). He then added the 1 lb of Freon that was included in the Angie’s List deal. The customer chose not to do anything about the leak. Leaks only get bigger they do not go away by themselves. If the customer had agreed to take action to repair the leak when we were there, the Freon would not have leaked out two weeks later and caused the unit to freeze up. The customer accuses our technician of sabotaging her unit then states that the leak was in an area of the coil that had not been opened, so how could we have sabotaged it? Our technician did remove the coil cover plate and inspect area of the coil that was visible. Had the customer chosen to determine if there was a leak we would have also removed more panels and discovered the exact location of the leak. Our technicians do not give sales pitches, they review the facts of what they find when they perform the tune up. The results are sometimes good and sometimes not so good. This customer chose not to listen to the not so good report. The Unit was 8 years old and a builder’s model and could develop a leak at any time. Even so the coil likely would not have developed a leak had it been properly maintained. We can only deliver the information, it is the customer's choice whether or not to proceed with our suggestions and if they don't choose to take action they cannot get mad when something happens.

Brazos Valley Services exceeded my expectations of an A-rated company on Angie's List. Rich, the senior technician at Brazos Valley Services, came to my townhouse for 3 different service calls, one of which was in response to an unexpected situation on a Saturday afternoon. He was very cooperative and prompt, never complained about coming out on a weekend day, and created a temporary solution to the immediate problem that saved my ceiling, my hardwood floor, and my sanity. On July 4th, Brazos Valley Services worked, so Rich arrived exactly on time to install a new piece of equipment that created a permanent solution. I am very pleased with the quality of the service and their cooperativeness, and I WILL use Brazos Valley Services again.
Description of Work: Originally I bought an Angie's List Big Deal Coupon to have Brazos Valley Services check and service my air conditioning system. (Coupon cost USD 48 and included 1 pound of freon, if needed.) Rich, Brazos Valley Services' senior technician, arrived on time and well-prepared (tall ladder, freon and other supplies on truck, etc.). I explained to him that as a first-time homeowner of less than a year, I was trying to nurse my existing, old HVAC system through this summer to avoid the cost of installing a new unit until next spring to ease my financial situation. Rich checked the condenser unit on the roof of garage and discovered three wires needed to be replaced as they were about to burn through and short out. He took photos of the wires in place with his phone and showed them to me, which I appreciated. He also advised that I needed 2 pounds of freond, 1 pound of which was included with my coupon, so I would pay for onlhy 1 pound. I asked him how much this repair would cost, how long it would take, and if it could be done on the same day. He said USD 600, about an hour, and yes. I asked him to replace the wires and add the freon, which he did. Then, he checked the larger piece of HVAC equipment in my attic and said it looked OK. I paid him and also bought a membership to one of Brazos Valley's customer service clubs, which gave me a discount on the day's cost. In fact, the discount I received just about paid for the club membership, which is good for a year. The next day, water suddenly began dripping from the living room ceiling onto my wood floor. Upon checking the attic, we could hear water dripping inside the HVAC equipment in the attic. I phoned Rich at about 4 p.m. He advised he would be at my townhouse in half an hour, and he was. He investigated and discovered that with the addition of the freon to the condenser unit, the cooling coils in the inside unit were operating at a cooler temperature and more condensate was being generated. Typically, these water droplets fall into the drip pan and flow out a plastic pipe that connects to the regular plumbing system in the house. Upon removing the connection of that plastic pipe to the drip pan, Rich discovered a large crack, which had allowed water to run amuck into a part of the equpment where it collected and began dripping through the ceiling. Rich jury rigged the drip pan so the condensate droplets would flow out the emergency drain and empty outside the house. This was a VERY smart and helpful thing to do, and this one action saved my ceiling and my floor. As it now was 6 p.m. on Saturday, Rich said he would check on Monday to see if a new drain pan could be located for my unit, as he believed installation of that piece would solve this drip problem and allow me to make it through this summer with my present AC unit. On Monday, Brazos Valley Services called to say they had found a new drip pan. We made an appointment for Rich to install it. Unfortunately, 4 days before the appointment, I suffered a serious back problem and had to reschedule. The next date with a morning appointment available was July 4th - a national holiday - but Brazos Valley Services worked that day, so we agreed to do the installation that morning. Rich was exactly on time. He got right to work, protecting the carpet on the landing (where the pull-dow2hn steps to the attic are located) with a large cotton dropcloth. In about 1 1/2 hours, he had installed the new pan and assured that the condensate droplets were running out the normal pipe into the plumbing of the townhouse. The cost of this repair (labor plus cost of new part) was USD 308, which we had previously agreed. When Rich left, I had much peace of mind that my AC unit was operating properly. Brazos Valley Services provided what I consider to be exceptional service in the 3 different visits to my townhouse. Rich provided straight answers to my questions, patiently explaining technical details in a way I could understand so I could make informed decisions about repair. He never seemed impatient with my need to know, and he really listened when I explained that I would like to make it through this summer with current HVAC system, as I already had spent significant USD on other repairs at my townhouse. He is very knowledgeable also about new, SER-rated, energy-efficient HVAC systems and provided basic info for me to consider, so I could begin considering what type system I want to buy next year. Brazos Valley Services office staff also was very good about working with me to schedule work on days I already planned to be off so I did not have to take vacation to be available for the repair. As a first-time homeowner, I truly appreciate their straight-forward, helpful approach. I certainly will use them again.

They did a good job. They e-mail you the day before with the name and photo of the serviceman who will be at the house, which I thought was good. You never know who is going to show up at the door. The serviceman inspect ed and cleaned the two units. which are a few years old now. I hope run a special on the furnaces, they are getting old and we haven't done that for many years.

Technician was on time -- did a thorough check on our A/C system, and upon completion gave us an update on our current system. No pressure selling whatsoever. Did the job as promised and did a great job.
Description of Work: A/C tune-up, cleaning, inspection, and provided up to one lbs. of Freon.

Service man was experienced and professional. Well trained and slick with his answers, comments, and procedures. It wasn't until after he was done and told me exactly what I owed in addition to the $98 in coupons that I began to feel deceived and played. The main point of my concern centers around the amount of freon he claimed to have added to my 2 systems and how he did it. A digital scale was produced and the freon bottle was placed on it, but I was never shown any readings, didn't see it "zero'd", and couldn't tell you if it was even turned on or not. In the end I was told that one pound or R-22 was added to each system as sold with the coupon but it required 5 pounds total to fully charge both. I was charged an additional $471 for the service. At $157 per pound, I believe I should have been shown the before and after digital scale readings as verification and peace of mind that I was truly getting exactly what I was paying for. At the grocery store I'm shown more information about the weight of the cherries I'm buying than what I was shown regarding this 5 pounds of freon. Am I also to believe that it actually came out to exactly 5 pounds? Not 4.25, 4.5, or 4.75? Why use a digital scale then? At $39.25 per quarter pound, I believe their billing could have been much more accurate and a lot more transparent to me, the consumer. I have no factual evidence that shows I was taken advantage of, but the whole situation was ripe for a cleaver tech to pad his charges and nothing was done to assure me it wasn't. Next time I will insist on seeing the actual scale readout and will only pay for the froen that is verified as going into my AC systems. "Word to the wise"

We are so sorry that you feel deceived and apologize for not doing a better job of explaining how we charge for this service. It is our policy to tell the customer how much it will cost ahead of time and make sure that they are ok with the price before proceeding. Our technician, Rich, did go over this with the customer first. When we measure how much freon will be needed with our gauges it is only a close estimate of what will actually be needed. We price it based on a range and also include the price of balancing the system. Our technician will add the amount of freon that he believes is needed based on the reading and then will have to take some out or add more to get it exactly right. He will often have to repeat this process several times to get it just right. We most certainly do not try to hide the readings, but most customers are not interested in watching this tedious process. Our techs are more than happy to show customers how it works and explain the process in detail. Most customers are aware of our honest reputation and practices but unfortunately this customer was not. We hope to get the chance to show him that we are an honest company in the future!

Rich Young did a great job explaining what he was doing at all times and really took his time cleaning the outside condensing unit which was filthy. He is very knowledgeable about how the entire system works and I thank him for his time and efforts to keep me cool! It's important to trust your A/C contractor so I would not hesitate to refer a friend or neighbor to Brazos Valley Services.
