B.A.S. Air Conditioning

Our air conditioner "went out" and I called BAS to come out. I was told the unit needed a hard start kit and the duel capacitor changed. When I was presented the bill I thought the price was high, but the work was completed so I paid but decided against the offered scheduled maintenance agreement. The next day, I called to three other a/c companies and was angered to find the other companies charge 1/3 of what I paid for the same parts.

We asked for them to do a spring check on our air conditioning units. They had replaced the small unit last year. In just a few minutes, I was told that we probably should replace the other unit. It was getting old and wouldn't last much longer. The original unit was installed in our new home in 2002. They had replaced the capacitor about a year ago. We had no problems with cooling at all. It was working fine. We just wanted to be sure it was up to the task of handling the upcoming summer heat. He suggested a unit that would cost around $14,000. Since I felt this was high I wanted to talk to my husband. The technician said the capacitor was no good and the wire was melted and he showed it to me. I let him replace that. There was no written estimate on the cost of the new unit. We asked them to come out the following Saturday to talk to my husband. We had also invited our daughter's boyfriend, a mechanical engineer, who has designed air conditioning units to atttend this meeting. One of the company's owners and the technician showed up with brochures in hand with details of the unit they recommended. They spoke for a while and as soon as our friend asked a couple of questions, the owner figured out that he was an engineer. The owner told him he was smart but this time he was wrong. A little while later the owner told his technician that they probably weren't going to make a sale. My husband asked for a proposal with the unit's information and price. We haven't heard from them since. We were not pleased with the way they ignored this. As a side note, they had just joined with another partner and are now known as BAS Air Conditioning and Heating.
