I interviewed several contractors and settled on Jon Wright roofing after spending time with their salesperson - Ryan Scott (214-629-9466). this was a very large and difficult job and both Ryan and the crew were 100% professional throughout. They cleaned up perfectly every day and left the place looking great. Ryan dealt very well with the insurance company and delivered exactly what he said he would. I would recommend Ryan Scott and Jon Wright Roofing to anyone.

Overall, it was a decent experience despite the short time frame in which to have the job done.
Description of Work: After our area experienced a severe hail storm the area was inundated with roofers. After extensive searching and comparison shopping, I selected Jon Wright roofing. While they were a bit more than some of the other fly-by nighters that descended on our area, the quality of workmanship and materials is above reproach. They did an outstanding job on my roof! Of particular note, it made no difference to them as to the type of house in regards to quality of work done. While I don't have a big, new house, they were willing to come out and do my small older home.

Excellent ! This company so favorably impressed us from the beginning when we learned what a GAF ELITE Certified roofer meant. Randy Jenkins, the sales representative, closely followed all phases of the roofing project and kept in constant touch. It was found that our attic did not have sufficient ventilation, due to lack of enough soffit vents, and of those vents present not being cut to the correct size by the builder, and to having insufficient ventilation turbines. All of those problems were addressed and corrected. The roofing crew were fantastic workers; so conscientious, courteous, and concerned for our safety. They even removed an unused antenna which was attached to our chimney. They realized that the wrong shingles had been sent to the job site by a distributor, and returned those before any were used. Mike, the insurance person at Jon Wright, dealt with our insurance company; we did not have to. We HIGHLY recommend Jon Wright Roofing, without reservation.
Description of Work: Inspection of roof, gutters, downspouts, windows and screens. Replacement of roof felt, shingles, flashing drip edges, added two ventilation turbines, added 4 soffit vents and cut existing vents larger, Replaced vent pipes and painted to match the roof Contracted with a separate company for replacement of gutters, downspouts and window screens

They were very, very helpful. We had some problems with a company we hired. Even though we didn't use them, they gave us a letter we needed to be able to go to our bank for our credit card because we needed to be able to say what this other company did and didn't do according to their contract so we could challenge the charge since they didn't do the work. Even though we haven't hired them yet they gave us that letter on their letter head and didn't charge for it. That's really something. They seem a little high to me, the quote they gave us was pretty high. I don't know if they were expecting there would be some problems because we had some problems with the other company. It seems out of line with other things I'm getting. On the other hand they were very professional, courteous and go out of their way for you. If I had money to blow they are definitely who I would hired. Everything they did do for us they really did go out of their way, on the other hand they were a little bit slow getting the estimate but they didn't charge us for anything so it's a little difficult to criticize that. They really seemed to be willing to help us out and go out on the limb for us. They didn't mind standing up for their customers and they didn't charge us even though they probably could have. If people were getting estimates I'd definitely recommend them.

Ryan Scott made our overall experience a very good one. Jon Wright should be very pleased with Ryan's expertise and professionalism. I interviewed 6 roofers and Ryan was the only roofer that I saw that suggested we address ventilation needs before automatically assuming ridge vents would offer proper ventilation for our home just because that's what I wanted. As it turned out, by using measurements and software, we did NOT have enough ridge on our roof to provide adequate ventilation with ridge vents so Ryan provided us with special vents :>) Also, the other roofers chose nail guns over hand nailing. Even, "ask the builder" suggests hand nailing if you can. Also, I don't know how he did it as busy as he was, but Ryan's response to questions, etc. was quicker than I ever expected - most of the time only minutes. I probably shouldn't even put that in here. As important as everything else, we felt like we could trust Ryan every step of the way and he never failed us. Ryan has proved to us to be a man of honesty and integrity and I feel we were blessed when we chose him and Jon Wright Roofing to replace our roof. I may very well live long enough to have to replace another roof in this part of the country (this was our 3rd) and I hope Ryan Scott and Jon Wright Roofing will be here to do it.

Update: I may have been too harsh in my initial review. Jon Wright Roofing responded to my complaint cordially and took extra steps to apologize and make things right. Looking forward to having my roof serviced by them. On two separate occasions I have been told that a technician would visit the property to conduct an estimate and each time I was stood-up. Apparently not that interested in my business.

The member is correct. We messed up. I looked into this and the original estimator was fairly new. He had completed his training and seemed to be doing a good job. Soon he left to Kansas and turned his stuff over to another estimator but did not tell the office he had done so late. We'll take this as constructive criticism. The other three potential customers that this estimator had were also neglected and went with someone else. Such behavior puts people out of business. After 32 years we're making changes that this does not happen again. I apologize.

I am selling my home and the buyer's home inspector identified several potential issues with my home's roof that needed to be repaired (several lifted shingles, lifted chimney flashing and several nail pops in shingles). Because I am selling my home I really needed someone that could do the repairs quickly but I still wanted the repairs done the right way... a quality job... and all at a fair price. I got 2 bids from contractors based on their ratings on Angie's List. When Ryan from Jon Wright Roofing & Siding arrived, I showed him the home inspection report and asked him for a bid to complete the repairs. He provided a bid and I selected Jon Wright Roofing & Siding to perform the repairs... and I'm glad I did! The repair job was done right and done quickly.

I'm very happy with the work Jon Wright Roofers did. My roof was completed in good time, the workmanship is excellent and the clean up perfect. James and the roofers were prompt, cheerful & courteous. James was especially helpful in explaining the contract and making sure everything was back in place when the job was done . I have recommended them to two other people who plan to use this company.

Prompt, courteous, and understanding. We haven't had any rain since the repair, but the work appears professional and well done.
Description of Work: Had a serious roof leak late on a Friday evening and a wedding at the house the following day. Jon was sympathetic to our situation and had a man out to fix the problem early the next morning. You can't beat that. Don came out right away and did a very thorough examination of the roof. He suggested adding a ridge vent as our house did not have one. Also pointed out a couple of easy fixes my husband could do himself. After we selected the company, they set up the roof for the same week. The only thing that I scored a B on was professionalism. This is more for the workers who came out. We were scheduled to have the roof the day a big storm was going to come through. My husband called Don who said it would probably be postponed for a couple of days. However, the workers came out about 30 minutes before the storm started (we were not at home so we could not say no) and we were under a thunderstorm warning. When we got home they were all on the front porch waiting for the rain to pass. They finished one half of the roof that day and the rest the next day. No damage was done, no leaks, and they may have been right starting it when they did. But it was very nerve wracking for my husband and myself as we worried. The roof looks great and overall we are pleased with the service

Had used Jon Wright for a different roofing job unrelated to this in the recent past and was impressed with Jon Wright's work. After we had straight line winds, discovered some shingles in the front yard. Thought they were a neighbors, but double checked my roof. Found that I had lost some shingles at the peak at the back side of the house. Called Jon Wright on Monday Morning. He called back and said he would be out the next day. Came out promptly on Tuesday morning and job was completed. I was extremely impressed with the speed of responsiveness of getting my small job done when I knew that many others had wind and hail damage in the area over the past couple of weeks. Again I would highly recommend. I was extremely impressed.

He gave us a quote for roofing at one price, then he gave us a second quote when the scope of work changed to where he would be doing less work, which seemed too high. When asked why, he said he had made a mistake on the first quote, which should have been higher, and that is why the second one seemed higher. Called several times and left messages. Most of the time he didn't even return calls, so that's when I started getting other bids. Always made me feel like he was rushing me.

We never rush anybody. I went to this home three times. The first proposal was a verbal that was figured on the kitchen table with a lot of conversation going on. I informed them that I made a mistake and sent a formal proposal by e mail. That is not being pushy. We reduced the scale of work several times and they still wanted to do less. I always responded, that is why they got lower bids, until one Saturday afternoon they called and left a message. I did not return that call. They had said they wanted to use us but wanted a lower price. We were not destined to work together. We got along great but we were not the match for them. We offer high quality services and guarantees and this is not what they wanted.I hope their job went well. I walked away. An F is unfair. I think they are mad because I could not accommodate them.

Our roof was in terrible shape.Original decking and structure was over 55 yrs old w/ 2 layers of old shingles and old termite damage from previous owner 20 yrs ago. After roof started to leak it continued to decay for an additional 5 yrs while we completed a bankruptcy plan to clear our credit from extreme medical bills. I was scared to make such an important decision because before my husband's stroke he made the major decisions of this type. I spent six months looking for a contractor. Jon Wright Roofing sent Ryan out within 2 days of my call.He walked me over the whole job, explained what was needed and why, and gave me an estimate the same day which was more than half less than other estimates I had received.I waited a month while I researched them which included getting an e-mail and signing up with Angie's List as part of the process. I received no further calls or pressure from them during this time. When ready I called them. Ryan brought over a simple straightforward contract w/ no legalese. After discovering a typo in the contract, Ryan went ahead and ordered the materials without a signed contract, showing his good faith in me. Within a week I had a signed contract and the work was started and completed in 2 days. Because of the unusual delay in signing the contract they had actually completed the job before I ever gave them a penny! The circumstances were unusual so don't expect the same but that is just how honest they are. Other contractors had told me I needed to replace the entire roof, all shingles, decking, beams, everything! But it wasn't necessary! Over 25% of decking was replaced w/ a considerable amount of additional carpentry which was included in the contract. Work and some wood replacement was done an the eaves as well. They even tore down and removed a 15ft by 15 ft attached roof over our porch deck for free. When some more work was required (due to unseen termite damage) the price did not go up. Materials and work were A+ quality and the crew worked so hard and fast. I couldn't believe they got it done in the 2 day period they said they would. It felt like doing business did 35 yrs ago. Everything went just like it was supposed to, honest and reliable. The cleanup was spotless too! I really can't say how much this experience meant to me because as an aging woman with a disabled disabled husband I am and have been a target for unscrupulous con men. I actually feel empowered thanks to them and Angie's List.
Description of Work: Removed 2 layers of old shingles . Removed and replaced over 25% of plank type decking , and replaced with planks ( not cheap plywood) so replacement matched original work. Reshingled roof with 100% 25 yr (not prorated) guaranteed shingles of our choice. Guarantee transferable to new owner if house is sold at no additional cost. Old rotted roof covering back porch deck was torn down and removed and deck was even swept.Replaced venting and turbines on roof as well as removed two old satellite dishes and provided flashing around everything protruding from roof including fireplace.. Replaced metal trim around edge of roof and carpentry and wood replacement as needed under and around eaves. Clean up was immaculate and entire job completed in 2 days. Labor and workmanship guaranteed 5 yrs at no extra cost.

Overall, I had a terrific experience. Very professional and pointed out problems. I had had other roofers come by and say I needed a roof replacement. I was expecting the worst, but got an honest evaluation of our roof condition. The soffit problem was an added plus. We had always had a hot upstairs. Jon pointed out by removing a soffit, that the hole to the soffit was the size of a golf ball. Should have been the size of the soffit. It was that way around the entire house. It was a case of the homebuilder sub taking shortcuts. It has to have an improved airflow in the attic. Couldn't have asked for a better experience.
Description of Work: Work consisted of roof leaks and flashing leaks. Also, Jon realigned the roofing vents to get proper flow. In addition, Jon identified some soffit vent problems completely around the house. He redid the soffits to correct airflow. Lastly, they corrected a roof sag near one of the leaks and reconnected the hot water heater vent that apparently was not connected. Thus, for years, gas was being vented into the space between the first and second floor. A potentially lethal problem.

I called Jon Wright Roofing for an estimate on a new roof. The office person advised me that Ryan Scott would be returning my call to schedule an inspection appointment. Later that same day Ryan called and we set an appointment for the following Saturday morning. Ryan arrived right on time and spent the next two hours inspecting my roof and the sheetrock damage to my garage ceiling as well as to a wall in my guest bedroom from previous water leaks from the old roof. Ryan was very informative on the inspection visit but did not try to "quick sell" me anything. He said he would come out again after I received his detailed estimate so he could answer any questions and explain why Jon Wright Roofing could offer the best plan for my new roof. I received the estimate by email within the time frame Ryan advised and it was detailed and informative and covered everything we had discussed. Ryan came to the house two evenings later and he answered all my questions and laid out the pro's and con's to all the various choices I had before me. I was very comfortable with my selections of materials and installation. On the scheduled start day it started raining buckets at about 5:00 AM, I got a phone call from Ryan at 7:00 AM letting me know that they would be dropping off the materials later in the day after the rain subsided and they would begin work the next day weather permitting. The materials were in place later that day and work began first thing the next morning. Ryan was there to get the job "kicked off" and he made sure I was informed as to the estimated progress for each day. I did have to be at the house for the interior sheetrock repair but their sheetrock repair man & painter, Martin, was a complete professional and I can't even tell where he made the repairs in the bedroom or the garage ceiling. He was quick, professional and cleaned up the messy sheetrock work like he had never been there. I can't say enough for how Ryan kept me informed of each stage of the job. He called me at work at each juncture of the job and I never felt like he had "moved on" to another job until my roof was completed to my complete satisfaction. I now feel like I have the best roof in the neighborhood and I have referred a couple of my neighbors to Jon Wright Roofing after they commented on my new roof. My wife was not involved in the "new roof process" by choice but I have heard her comment several times how much she now enjoys driving up to our house and looking at the beautiful new roof. I couldn't agree with her more.
Description of Work: Remove and replace entire steep slope roof; Re-deck with Radiant Barrier roof decking, reshingle with high definition 30 year shingles, upgrade felt application, remove and replace all soffit vents, replace two existing exhaust vents with three new Aura AV-18 exhaust vents powder coated to match the new shingle color, upgrade of drip edge and valley shingle choice and Upgrade of Warranty to their Golden Pledge 20 year no leak warranty covering 100% material and labor for 20 years. Also repaired two occurances of sheetrock damage due to water leaks from old roof.

Description of Work: There were four areas of leaks from the roof and stains in Living room from three and the chimney flashing had been leaking for years. Jon came out gave an acceptable bid plus I had him do a roof coating on sunroom to reduce heat build up due to lack of insulation space on roof . The work was completed and a three inch rain ensued and walla no leaks not even from the flashing around the chimney. My wife is extremely happy. I would not hesitate to use this company again

Contract was signed in mid August and work was finally completed at the end of September. Jon does an excellent job of selling but needs a project manager to schedule, take notes and see to details. They put the wrong color shingle on my roof, it was my second choice so I elected to live with it. There was not enough overhang but the situation was remedied. The biggest disappointment was the vinyl siding. A subcontractor was hired to do the job and the effort was completely uncoordinated. It was not done to specification, but to his credit and after several visits, Jon made it right. If I had it to do over, I would definately not choose the siding. I do however feel that I got a quality roof in the end.

This review makes no sense. Reread what she said. She said it’s a good job. She got a great job even though there were some other pre-existing problems not addressed in our scope of work. Also it was a particularly difficult job as it was extremely steep, about a 24/12 pitch, which is nearly a vertical wall. The decking was totally rotten and uneven. The fascia, hidden beneath a bulky plastic gutter had no overhang or soffit, making it difficult to see the waviness of the hidden fascia. After we had completed the re-deck and roofing and put on the siding, we had to remove the entire perimeter and level the framing so the fascia would look straight. Metal is not very forgiving and exaggerates any defects. This was above my contractual obligation and I did not charge more for it. I wanted a good looking product and did what it took to get it. I had miscalculated some measurements on the walls and once the vinyl siding and new deck went on the walls it didn’t match up to the roof edge. So I had the rake edges, which the rest of the perimeter, taken down. I tore it off the roof edges and redid the rakes or sides. The estimated projection of the siding was incorrect and this made us have to redo roofing. We had to make the roof extend ¾” to give the proper overhang. Even if I had measured properly we would have had to redo much of it because the walls were crooked and our roof was straight. The roof needed to be done first with the edges left open but this could have been dangerous with inclement weather. If we did the siding first, the roof and deck removal would have damaged the siding and trash would have gotten behind the aluminum fascia. The clients other contractor messed up a hole for an air conditioner so we had to remove the siding and put it back after they enlarged and reframed the hole. I lost material and labor and didn’t complain. There was absolutely no coordination between us and her other contractors. I have confidence in my sider. I’m having him put windows in my father’s home and his own father used to work for me too. He does jobs for Home Depot, Sears, All American, and other big outfits. I pay him more than they do because we do more things than they do. We follow the Vinyl Siding Institutes procedures. This job and the roofing were definitely installed above and beyond specifications. The materials are first class and the warranties are tremendous. In the end, after gladly fixing the “tie in” of the roof and siding, plus the crookedness of the house, we delivered a high quality roof and siding job I have doubt many others would have been able to do. The rot pervasive through the structure was due to a steep roof with a true cathedral ceiling. There was no way to ventilate the home without a system I developed many years ago. We mounted the radiant barrier decking on furring strips and created a continual intake so air could pass over the top of the insulation and out the vent ridge. Nobody is perfect but we delivered a tremendous product. We took losses that were not always our fault and did so without complaint. The opening line of her complaint, that the contract was signed in mid August and completed at the end of September is misleading. We went through weeks of dealing with the city for a porch extension she eventually decided not to build. Once we received our permits, which take days in her town, and the materials were available, we went to work. We worked hard and continually except for a few days while my sider looked for a new truck. I had to coordinate the roofers and siders to be there together to get the final product perfect. Besides, about two weeks before her complaint to Angie’s List was posted, I had left a message to see if she had any concerns that needed to be addressed. No return call was made. She paid me promptly when I said we were through and she seemed happy. I believe that she should give us ratings for what she said we did. Maybe she can fault us for having to redo some of the work but I’m not sure there is a category for that. This is a great job and she should be proud of the energy efficiency that I don’t think anyone else could have delivered to her home. I wish the customer would rate the quality of work accordingly. That would be fair.

Based on Angie's list referrals I contacted this company to fix one hole in a flat roof over a patio. The roof is covered with a foam substance so no shingles involved. The person performing the estimate showed up late, talked my ear off and then gave me an estimate of $800 to fix. I asked what it would cost to replace the entire roof as it is quite old (dream words to a roofer) and it was over two weeks before he got back to me. In the mean time I got another estimate from another roofing company listed here and the repair was done for only $45. Nuff said.

Response from Jon Wright Industries
I believe this roof will leak very soon. The foam's coating is receptive to very few products and our repair was designed to carry the water from the shingle roof past the leak on the foam on the sloped roof out onto the flat foam roof. The place where they come together has little slope and the shingles should not be on so low a slope. My repair had over $300.00 in shingles and flat roofing materials figured in and a full day of labor reworking the "tie in" perimeter so that when the foam roof is replaced the repair could be reused to integrate the shingles to the flat roof when it is replaced. I guess the price was too high but I told her replacement was not necessary. The member said "you see how my house is?" She meant it was very nice and she didn't want it messed up. Everything was first class, clean and impeccable and she enjoyed telling me the stories about she had to finish the other contractors work for both the kitchen and floor projects after she ran them off the job. She also informed me she was an attorney and everything had to be done just right or she would take action. Before work on the repair could be done she also wanted copies of our insurance. Then she e mailed asking for a full replacement. I was slow in getting her the estimate and really didn't want the work. Ask any experienced roofer who has worked with foam and he'll tell you replacing a foam roof next to a pool is no "dream job." If there is a small breeze the mess could go everywhere. Plus she didn't ask for a dream job to replace the whole roof. She wanted the flat foam roof next to her pool replaced along with a few shingles around the house. She informed me that the shingles better match perfectly to her 1993 or 1995 roof. I told her we could get close but not exact. she didn't like that either. The manufacturer has since changed the color and the roof is aged. We're lucky we were not selected. Imagine the comments.

Due to the positive comments on Angie's List, I contacted this company to provide an estimate for some roofing repair work. It took two phone calls to even set up an appointment for someone to come out. I took time off work to meet Jon at my house but he never showed up. He did not call to offer an apology or explanation. Very disappointing.

First I'd like to apologize. He did call twice as did many others. After the hurricane we received more calls in two weeks that we had all year. We made the mistake of trying to respond to everyone. My assistant Alex told member that I would be at his home in about an hour and due to my phone being taken from my truck I showed up late and had been unable to call. We were unaware he had taken off work. He was gone. I did fail to call him and tell him that his entire east gable end needed rebuilding. We now know that Angies List can temporarily remove our listing if this happens again so we do not inconvenience anyone.

I went through a couple months of sparing between my insurance company and a different roofer. Basically, after two rounds, the roofer said I needed a new roof; the insurance company said there isn't enough damage to give me anything. The third round consisted of my previous roofer, a roofer representing the insurance company and a previously agreed to Umpire. After listening to the arguments, the umpire seemed to be siding with the insurance company. But about a week later I got a check from the insurance company which certainly would not cover a new roof. But I needed to get repairs done and the previous roofer was really only interested in a whole roof or nothing. I looked at Angie's list and found Jon Wright Roofing and Siding. I called and the next day Mr. Wright came to my house and inspected my roof. He looked over all the contradictory information given to me by my insurance company. I was very confused at this point because I had just spent months with many "experts" telling me there is nothing wrong with my roof, and another "expert" telling me I needed a whole new roof. And I had an Engineer Report, (hired by the insurance company) that seemed to state something in the middle. Mr. Wright spent some time going over the Engineer Report, went back up on the roof and came down with an Estimate to address all the concerns of the Engineer. This seemed like a sensible approach and if put me somewhat at ease. Three days later, one of Mr. Wright's associates came, right on time, to fix the roof. I asked, about how long it would take and was told between 5 & 6 hours. He was finished at the 5 hour mark.
Description of Work: Repaired torn shingles and backed out nails.
