The salesman was ~2 hours early which was okay, but what if I wasn't ready for him. It was a Friday afternoon and he probably wanted to wrap up his day. From the time he walked in the door I think he knew what he was going to sell me and fully expected me to sign that day. During the sales process he continually insulted me by saying things he should not have not knowing anything about me. Instead of being treated like a knowledgeable, savvy shopper I was treated like the little lady of the house who needed to be told what they were going to get. His sales methods included bashing the competition and acting like there was no other choice, I would be crazy to go with someone else. He went around to measure my windows and came back in with a quote and handed it to me. We had no discussion of what types of windows I wanted. When I began to ask questions and request different types of openings (sliders vs double hung) he seemed to get frustrated that he was having to scratch out things on his quote and adjust. While responding to some of my questions and not being able to give the right answer he realized I was not going to sign that day. He was put out. I was also surprised at his reaction to my question about the price of the windows. I believe he told me the starting price was $310 per window. All the advertising and even his card says "$189 per window". While I believe $310 is a great price for a window, I felt misled. When I asked him what was the $189 per window referenced he said that was for a replacement window in an unairconditioned area. It was more because of government standards. I have meant to research this but was really so turned off by the salesman that I don't care anymore. If I had to buy windows from Window World of Houston, I would definitely request a different salesman.

We were extraordinarily pleased with them. The installation went very efficiently and the quality of their product has been good. We spent $3000, but it was worth it. Everything about them was satisfactory including the crew that came out. When we called the guy for the bid, he showed up and gave us a bid. Then the contract guy came in and did the installation. Everything is in good shape and there was no mess. We had one small problem, but we never called them back about it because it was a minor job and my husband took care of it. He fixed it in about 10 to 15 minutes. We never even gave them an opportunity to make that right. We didn?t discover that until about two months after they left because we don?t usually use those storm shutters. They hadn?t put those shutters in, but they had to take them off when they installed them because of the windows. We didn?t have any problems with them. They were great. I would use them again. We recommended them to our neighbor and they used them as well.

DO NOT USE WINDOW WORLD!!! My experience with Window World Houston has been the worst contractor experience of my life. I will try to be brief, but it has been such a long, arduous process that I don't know if I can. 01/28/11: Installation scheduled. Installer calls 3 times to delay when he is arriving. When I confirm the scope of the work, he is unaware that there is termite damage to the wall framing that he is supposed to repair. He finally shows up at 3pm, alone (no helper) and without the materials he needs for the job. I send him away. 02/02/11: Installer comes back and spends all day with removal and replacement. He brought his teenage son to help him. After all day of removal, fixing the wall, wrecking the moulding, and installing the replacement windows, he tells me that the picture window (5'x6') has a manufacturing defect....the sides bow in towards the center like an hour glass. I'm told it will take 3 weeks to order a new window. Now my plantation shutters are in the dining room, the wall is exposed on the inside with no insulation, and I have a defective window for 3 weeks. 02/25/11: The window has arrived in Houston. I receive a call at 730am that they dropped my window while loading it in the truck and broke it. It will take another 2 weeks to order me a new one. 03/09/11: Installation of the unbroken, not defective window. The installers show up at 5pm (at my request) to do the installation so I don't have to take any more time off of work. While they are trying to remove the defective window from between the 2 casement windows, they forget to remove 1 screw and end up ripping the screw out of the sill. In the process of trying to rip out the picture window, it becomes apparent that one of the casement windows has been installed with 2 screws installed at an angle which are now ripping the vinyl frame of the window. So now the picture window is installed, but the adjacent casement window is messed up. Also, I had to point out to them that the windows were not installed straight....they bowed out relative to one another. The installers were upset that I was making them correct the problem. 03/10/11: Meet with the supervisor about the poorly installed casement window. He agrees that it was done incorrectly and that they will replace it. They happen to have one in stock from one of the re-orders of my picture window. This required me to take more time off of work to meet with the supervisor. 03/11/11: Replacement of the damaged casement window. Installer shows up to replace the casement window. I signed the completion paperwork pending a conversation with the owner of the branch. I wanted to express my displeasure at the whole project, the duration, the shotty work, and discuss why I should pay full price for all these problems. My credit card was charged the next day, regardless, with no contact from owner. 03/14/11-03/20/11: Called window world 5 times to try to speak with Robert, the owner. I left a message on his voice mail or with the staff each time. No response. 03/21/11: Receive a call from Robert after threatening to cancel payment. He agrees to a $100 refund for my problems. He states that it will take 36-72hrs to post. 03/25/11: Refund has not posted. I call and leave a message for Robert. 03/28/11: Refund has not posted. Robert calls me and tells me that he's checking into it and will call me back "in a minute". He does not call me back. 03/29/11: Still no response or refund. I call and leave a message. 03/30/11: I call again. I talk to Robert. He confirms that the refund was made on 03/28/11. 03/30/11: My general contractor arrives to fix the sheetrock and paint the interior of the room the windows are in. He tells me that the wood framing of the window was done incorrectly, the joists are not level, and the vertical joists between the top of the window frame and the roof beam were just put in there without any consideration to keeping the roof beam straight. He is going to have to fix all of this to be able to do the sheet rock and re-install the plantation shutters. I told Robert about it and he said that they cant guarantee that the shutters would fit again. I suggested that they don't do work that they are not qualified to do correctly, especially if they plan to charge for it. It ended up taking over 6 weeks to install 1 window correctly and required my constant oversight and countless hours of my time chasing them to do the work correctly. I had to take 2 vacation days (that ended up being totally wasted since they didnt do any work either day), long lunch breaks, and leave work early on several occasions. It was still done incorrectly. Do not use Window World.

BEWARE - DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!! We had used this company for replacement windows for entire home due to the low price. Considering the low cost, the windows themselves are adequate, although the installation was very sloppy. My husband and I spent many hours cleaning up glue and caulk from around the window frames. We had to repaint the outside window frame trim because they scraped and damaged the hardiplank during installation. The vinyl trim pieces around the outside of the windows were cut by hand and look very cheap. Dirt collects in the window sills requiring them to be cleaned frequently. We had to have them return several times to adjust the windows. One of the windows had to be completely replaced requiring several service calls. Sometimes we would schedule a service call and they just wouldn't show up. Very frustrating when you have to take time off from work! One of the large windows in the upstairs of our home still does not close properly despite several service calls. On one of the service calls, the installers showed up without a ladder. Another time they just added more caulk to the window frame and told us to use WD40. It seems that the installers that they send out do not want to deal with our window because it is on the second story and is very heavy so we have given up on ever getting it fixed and working properly. We also ordered replacement doors. We never received one of the doors, so after more than six months of waiting, I sent a certified letter to the company to cancel our order. One of the other two doors that we did receive has been a nightmare. It did not close properly and still sticks at times. We have scheduled service calls and they either do not show up or on one service call, they showed up at 6 p.m. on a friday and then did not want to deal with rehanging the door. We finally paid a handyman to come and rehang the door so that it would close. The same door has condensation between the panes of glass whenever it rains. After 3 to 4 months of calling Window World, (they never call us!) we were told by someone in the Baton Rouge office that we would get a replacement door. They showed up with the wrong door and with a replacement pane of glass that did not even fit the door! After all of the phone calls to this company, days that we have to take off from work, it is just not worth any money that we may have thought we saved to deal with this company. The communication between Window World and the installers is terrible. I am really surprised by the other reviews that give this company high ratings, overall we have had a terrible experience. I hope you can benefit from this review and avoid making the same mistake that we did in using this company in the attempt to save money.

When my husband called for a salesperson to come out and give us a price on 3 windows he seemed to busy. The salesman said he was going to a convention and wouldnt be back for a week, but he would come out after he returned. We didnt hear from him again untill my husband called and said we decided on 11 windows the sales man was out within a day. I dont think the sales man was intrested because we were only looking at originally replacing 3 windows.Turned out the salesman was awesome and our windows look great.

I don't even know where to start with this company. I will try to sum it up, which will still be long. My #1 problem is customer service, which is simply non-existent in this Company. My #2 problem is the manufacturer that Window World uses - Alside. Most all windows are fine, as far as I know, except for one - the most important one - a large 70" x 70" picture window that is (was) the pride and joy of our house. I will speak about that here. Installation was a nightmare. Cleanup was not good. The window (and 5-6 ordered after that) has major defects that are very visible. They purposely make sure they are done at sundown so you can't tell what they did. They wouldn't have to if they wouldn't have taken a 2 hour lunch. The Field Supervisor at the time (Tim), who no longer works there, was horrible. I needed him to come out to explain to me how I can repair my outside siding around my large picture window (that was severely damaged during installation) without ruining any warranty related to caulking, etc. He stood me up 3 times, each time never calling me to say he wasn't going to make it. Finally one day he came by. But, this field supervisor told me to do something that was totally incorrect and would have damaged the window. Thank God my handyman figured that out before doing the recommended 'fix'. As of March 31, 2010, I was still waiting for a non-defective large picture window. Yes, almost a year later. The original window had defects. So did the replacement. Also the next 3-4 ordered. Not to mention a couple times no one at Window World knew what happened to the window ordered. I've almost forgotten how many have been ordered since my installation. First one came in, they came to my house, unwrapped it, and black goo was in between the windows. The next one came in, and I was told over the phone that it was cracked. The next one came in, was installed, and had the same defect (even worse than original). Another one was ordered, don't know what happened to it. Another one was ordered recently. I took off work, waited for the installer, who never showed up. I called Window World and was told he wasn't coming. Gee, thanks for the phone call to notify me. And I confirmed it just the day before to make sure (because I've been stood up before). So then I was told that the window that has been in the warehouse was wrong, or the wrong size...... you know... the same window that keeps being ordered every 2 months for a year now..... the one with the information in the computer.... the one that can't seem to be made without defects. Okay.. rambling here because I am fed up with the customer service of this Company. I've dealt with so many Window World people it's nuts. Probably 8-10 field supervisors, etc. Only the last one (Mike) still works there. I've never seen so much turnover. One day a field supervisor is at my house, then in 2 weeks he "no longer works here". I've heard that 5-6 times now. The head of customer service (Jason) seemed okay and was always responsive and polite (at least he was ordering windows). We had long conversations and I felt comfortable my problem would eventually be resolved. But he is no longer there (since Dec '09). The rest of this organization irritates me because there is NO customer service. Worse than bad. There is no communication among these folks. No consideration of a person having to take time off of work to be at home for them, then no one showing up, and not even receiving a phone call. Complete and utterly horrible customer service. Hope you don't have an issue with a window. Okay, today is September 28, 2010. It's been 16 months now and I STILL have a bad window. Looks great when it's cloudy or raining, but on a nice clear day with the sun out, all my friends ask me why I don't clean my big window. I tell them it is clean, and that all that 'junk' is between the glass - including the foggy stuff. If you call the main # and can get through all the teenage girls working there, perhaps the one in charge of customer service will take your call. More than likely she'll be out to lunch, on another call, etc. Seems the #1 priority is new windows - NOT customer service on existing customers with issues, problems or defects. And that is the wrong way to do business, especially when you rely on referrals for new business. Perhaps I've been experiencing the old fashioned "you get what you pay for" lesson. Be careful when dealing with Eric, who runs the Houston office. He wants your money for new windows. After that, he doesn't give a rats a**. My wife has a list of no less than 10 people we've been dealing with for over a year, ALL who no longer work there. I'm tired and have had this report "on hold" for too long now. I'm submitting it because I'm tired of it all. P.S. In between all this I needed to have a smaller double-hung window glass replaced because of a broken seal. The first try I was stood up by the "fixer", with absolutely no notice and no phone call. A wasted vacation day. The second time around it was done very well. It was this person who was the first to 'diagnose' my large picture window that I am still hoping I will have one day - without dust, dirt and fog within it. Oh, and we contacted the manufacturer (Alside). They don't even care. Anyone is welcom to contact me in Houston. You can visit me and I'll show you my window(s). Especially if you are trying to decide whether to go with Window World. Be skeptical of any company that uses Alside windows as well.

Not on time, not with the windows I ordered, not a valid warranty, damage to my home, can't sell my home in this condition they left it, legal suit to resolve it! I'd run the opposite way as fast as I could if I were you! My health has suffered from trying to get this resolved! Run!
Description of Work: The job was left unfinished with damage to window frames, casing, and drywall after I paid them in cash! The company has been advised the city of Houston has tagged my home for the windows to be removed as they do not meet the minimum safety and energy efficiency codes. The windows require extra effort to open and close, they are not installed correctly, gaps exist allowing air and water in my home. Window World has failed to maintain a registered agent in Texas, subsequently the Secretary of the State of Texas revoked their charter to conduct business in Texas. Their warranty is non-existent. I was never given a copy of their insurance. Their President Blair Ingles has done nothing, Robert Smyth, has done nothing, Eric Keeler signed an additional agreement in mediation, but then didn't commence the work in a timely manner by that time their charter to do business was revoked and it was beyond me know what to do. The windows installed are NOT Energy Star windows, their advertising is deceptive! Their salesman sold me windows that in order to install them would leave large holes in my walls, and when found out I said I didn't want holes in my walls they told me I'd have to pay extra... $700.00 extra! I'd advise everyone to contact the Voss Law Firm at 713-861-0015 if you have had similar experiences with Window World. By the way, the BBB deleted my complaint since I would not agree to a mediator of Window World's choice! My home can not be sold in the condition Window World has left it. It is costing me thousands of dollars to correct all the problems Window World has created!

Response from Window World of Houston
There were some factory errors on the order and some minor damage to some of the window sills/trim. All of these mistakes are easy fixes and we tried to schedule a time to come and complete the job. The Member didn't allow us and wanted a third party to be involved. After the second meeting at the Dispute Resolution Center, we finally came to an agreement of how and when to complete the job. The Member has yet to allow us to complete the job. We contacted the DRC for help and they suggested a certified letter. This is the letter to the Member: Dear Member, As per our mediation agreement at the Dispute Resolution Center on December 7, 2009, Window World is now prepared to complete the job of your window replacement. You were notified of this on 3/16/2010, but have not yet allowed us to do that. Our intent is to comply with the contract between us and the agreement we made at the Dispute Resolution Center. Please call our office at your earliest convenience to schedule the completion of the job. Thank you, Window World Houston When we got no response from Member, we contacted the DRC and here are the notes from that conversation: I spoke to Nathan @ the DRC & he said he will call the Member today & call me back to tell me if he got anywhere with her. She stated to the DRC back in March that WW had no legal right to conduct business in TX & that our charter had been revoked? Nathan went on to say that if she doesn't allow us complete the job, she is in violation of the agreement & that will stand up in court. The Member's claim that we have had our charter to do business in Texas is outlandish. She has been far more than unreasonable. In fact, she did tell the salesman at the time of the sale that if everything was not perfect, she will be sueing us. As of 8/27/2010, Window World of Houston has not been served any suit from the Member. However, we do hope very much that she will, so that a court will allow us to complete the contract.

We called at the end of June 2010 and a salesman name Greg came out within a few days. He was very knowledgeable about the products offered. He gave us great advice on deciding what windows would look the best compared to what we had along with how to save money. We ended up going with a big picture window in the front of the house that had three separate windows before. The bay window was done with a picture window in the middle and two side double hung windows on the sides for ventilation. These both look great. We also used double hung windows in the kitchen and utility room which look better than the sliders that were there before and cost less. I had an idea that the cost would be around $5,000 for what we wanted to do. I think the price was worth it based upon the results of the project. The work crew that did the installation was very professional and cleaned up afterwards. We are very happy with how good the windows and patio door look. You can tell a difference in sounds from outside being muted and the house is definitly cooler. Our old windows were aluminum and probably the originals from when the house was built in the early sixties.
Description of Work: We had eleven white vinyl replacement windows installed throughout our house and replaced the sliding patio door. Seven windows were double hung with half screens, two were slider windows and two were picture windows.

Salesman from 5 companies came by my house to make their sales pitch. Only two would actually provide bids because I had oversize windows. The 6000 series from Window World were as good as my other option but about half the cost which was important because our time in this house is 2 to 6 years so we just needed windows that would help us sell the house because the old ones were so bad. Installation was a joke. The windows were mismeasured even though the installer himself had measured them prior to ordering. I went around taking pictures of the windows as they installed them and did not say a word until they finished. They have agreed to replace the one window that is so small that it is obvious from the sidewalk. I could make a bigger fuss--but I do not have the time or energy. It makes me think I might have been better off getting a separate crew to install the windows and just buy them from windowworld. But then again, it would have been luck of the draw if that crew would have been any better than the one I had with windowworld. UPDATE: It has been about ten months since I had the windows installed by windowworld. Our electricity usage have decreased substantially compare to prior years (-25% to as high as -50% some months). The problem is that we were doing additional renovation around this time to include enhanced attic ventilation so it is hard to tell how much of it is the windows. I will say that the windowworld 6000 series windows themselves do seem to be high quality for the price. We have Jeldwen windows in our kitchen from a previous renovation and the windowworlds are better. As far as an update for the installation, Windowworld did come back out and replace the one window that was grossly mis-measured (for free). To their credit they also completed a couple of unrelated tasks for me as well for a reasonable price. On the other hand, one thing that I did not mention in my previous review is that I was not happy as I was walking around and found a couple of spots where they were installing trim without insulating sufficiently around the window. Makes me wonder how much better my electricity bills could be... As a sidenote, if you are replacing "replacement" windows (aka not the originals), you might be taking a bit of a risk. It is hard for the measurer to determine what exactly is behind the trim of replacement windows and how much of that the trim covers. In the end, you might be better off removing the old windows to allow measurement and assess how you want to proceed. But this will involve boarding off the openings while you get new windows which may or may not be acceptable to you. After going through several renovation projects over the last couple of years, I am convinced that as a consumer the most important thing is to educate oneself on the work you need done. No matter how glowing somebody's review is on Angielist, if they can tell you do not know anything about what you need them to do they will still take advantage of you (and you will not know).

They responded promptly to our call for an estimate. The sales call was very thorough & we were provided with a quote on the spot. They also esponded very quickly when we modified our requirements. They provided a very attractive price for a product that was as good or better that that quoted by the other bidders. The windows were ready right on time & the installers were clean, courteous, on time, very hard workers, & did a good job. We are very pleased with Window World.

They did a great job. I would highly recommend them. The salesman was great. We ordered the windows and they came in early. Excellent work overall, cleaned up well, and everything worked out to perfection.

They were really good and I have no complaints at all. There were some things that I wanted changed after they left that weren't right and they were really nice about doing it.

Ordered from WW back in September. Got a call last week that the windows were in. Caller left message on answer machine. I tried to call back but it was after hours. I left my cell number. No call back. I called on Monday and asked for an appointment for an install. She set me up for Wednesday. Installer was running late back arrived by 10am and was finished before 3pm. Very professional. Nice clean up. Beautiful windows!

Very well. The estimator came out the day after I called to give me a quote. The price was excellent. The day of installation went great -- it took about an hour a window and they cleaned up completely.

The job went quicker than I thought it would. They called about a week ahead of time and said they could work on it right away. They were punctual and on time. They were quite professional as well, with one exception. One of them broke a candle in my room and put it in the trash without telling me. I didn't discover it until I stepped on a piece of glass. It bothered me that he didn't say anything. Then again, half of the crew couldn't speak English.

Salesman Chad Wilson was prompt to respond and was happy to come back once more during the evening, so my husband and I could decide together. After we decided to go ahead, Chad took all the measurements, which turned out to be accurate on the day of installation. Windows arrived two weeks earlier than expected, which was great. Workmanship was great. Very efficient crew. Worked well together, completed all the work in one day. Checked quality and were responsive to questions and requests. Would recommend.

The free estimate seemed incredibly reasonable compared to others, with little apparent difference in quality. Upon deciding to go ahead, the salesman came back out immediately, took measurements & told me that they would call in 3 weeks to schedule the installation. 3 weeks to the day, they did call and scheduled a time that was convenient for me (in the same week). When the installers arrived, I found out that they were from the Baton Rouge office, because Houston had gotten backed up on installations, so they brought in extra crews to keep their customer commitments (I was impressed). They were pleasant & completed the installation in 1 day, finishing after it was dark. Both a service rep and my salesman stopped by during the day to check on the installation. The next day when I was able to look at the windows closer, I found a few issues (hole in screen, trim work, loose screens). I was scheduled for a follow-up visit to correct these - they came, fixed , & I'm happy.
Description of Work: Installed 19 new vinyl windows throughout my home. These windows are double hung (slide from both top and bottom) and double paned with low-E gas.
