We will use them again for any electrical services.
"want to thank this member for allowing us to replace her breaker panel the first time we met. I am glad you were so happy with or service that you gave us a second opportunity. I know that the customer service rep that scheduled this service appointment with you offered you multiple scheduling options. I apologize that even though you chose a particular appointment, you personally were not able to meet your technician. Instead we met someone other than yourself. We do provide great service, you just have to be there personally to experience it. Great service is hard to experience through someone else. I am sorry there was a miscommunication. I want to adress this to anyone reading this: When you schedule an appointment with us or any comparable service company, we are not the Utility Company! We will be there at the time we agreed on. You don not have to second guess and have some one at home who has to wait all day for the electrician. The issue with not meeting your technician personally is that you do not get the service experience you deserve. When we arrived at this members home, she was not there. She had left someone to meet us who was able to show us the closet light, but was not able to approve any work for the security light. When we tried to call this member at the phone number she provided, we could not reach her. Her technician was at her home for over 2 hours, He even attempetd to adjust the settings on the light in the hope it would repair it, but the lights needed to be replaced. As for selling her a rewire: She has a home wired in aluminum. Her technician left her an inspection report and summary of findings referring to this issue and recomended that she address it. They did not speak to each other. Her original technician whom she actually met and liked also informed her that she has aluminum wiring and should consider redoing the connections. So again, I apologize to this member that because of poor communications on both of our parts, she did not get the service experience she deserved. So anyone reading this: A service experience is a two party affair. The best way to get the service experience you deserve, is to meet the technician personally or have someone at your home who has authoriy to approve repairs, as we would never doing anything to your home without your approval."
"I want to thank this member for purchasing our Diagnostic Big Deal for $179. Normally a diagnostic with a simple repair is $383. We do something that most electricians are afraid of: we provide an upfront amount for our troubleshooting. It is our job to be the expert and know what we are doing, so we put even the ultimate unknown, an electrical diagnostic, to the test. All the other electricians, if they provide upfront pricing at all, will still perform diagnostic work by the hour. Which means that the electrician has all the time in the world to find your problem and repair it. WE stand by our diagnostic and will spend the additional time beyond what we planned and stand by the upfront amount we provided 99% of the time. In this case, the technician should have quoted the addtional repair costs immediately, and we have trained on this as well, in order to continue to provide our customers upfront transparency. In the case of this job, the job site conditions were so extremely unsusual and difficult, I will not go in to details, that after three and half hours of negotiating the extremely difficult job site conditions, I ordered my technician to stop. WE then gave this member two options: we would REFUND her $179 that she paid through the Big Deal or for the additional amount, which was what the tech should have quoted in the beginning, we would continue working with the extremely difficult site conditions and guarantee a repair. The technician was at this members home the first day just over 4 HOURS. Then, on the second day, we sent two electricans, who were there for just over 2 additional hours, to finally find the problem and make the repair. For a total of 8 Man Hours. Under normal job site conditions, we stand by our upfront diagnostic and repair. Everyday. But with site conditions that are extreme and out of our control, we offered to refund all of this members money, even after 3 1/2 hours. But this member agreeed to not have her money refunded and allow us to continue to repair her problem with the addtional budget. This member was extremely happy with our service when we made the repair. So, What other service will commit to that much to solve your problem and then offer a refund when the site conditions were extreme and the technician should have never begun the diagnostic in the first place without discussing the upgraded repair option."
They were prompt, professional, and kept me informed every step of the way. Each day they told me what they would do. I can't thing of anything that I would object to in their work. The price quoted on the estimate what I paid. No extra charges. They did good work. You can trust them in your home. They continue to provide excellent service. The satisfied clients will "spread the word" !
PROVIDER RESPONSE From 09/12/2011-My responses in CAPS below
When I see a report like this one, i always review everything we have about the job. This member called us because he thought $74 for a whole house electrical inspection was a good deal. YES I DID THINK IT WAS A GOOD DEAL UP UNTIL THE THE "BS' RECOMMENDATIONS Apparently he is in the construction industry and wanted a follow up for his other electrician. SORRY I AM NOT IN THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY JUST A SMART CONSUMER THAT RECOGNIZES "BS". I am sorry that he was not happy with the technician I sent over. There is a couple of things I would like to add. His home was built in 1965, so it is pretty old. Had it been built even a year later and the workmanship was adequate, we would not have been discussing a rewire option. However, sometimes poor initial workmanship cannot be "fixed". It is more cost effective to replace the wiring. This member is suggesting that we were deceptive and that after he balked at the rewire price we downsold him. YES YOU WERE DECEPTIVE THE HOUSE WAS REMOLDED IN 2008 WITH A NEW BREAKER PANEL INSTALLED. MOST OF THE WIRING IN THE HOUSE WAS REPLACED. Well that is contrary to our ethics and to the facts. I looked: as we always do, which is our commitment to our customers, we gave him three options upfront.. The first option was to rebuild the main service and panel and rewire the home for $25000. The second option was to: Replace a couple of circuits and paritally rewire one part of the home for $4320 and the third option was to update and improve the main grounding system, replace the gfci breaker for the pool light (thats the part that saves you from electrocution when you dive into your pool that has a malfunctioning pool light) and install surge protection for $1730. SO YOU GET THE TECHNICIAN TO COME INTO A HOUSE WITH A DEAL AND SCARE THE CONSUMER INTO WORK? There are many qualified real estate inspectors out there. But to qualify, they only need a minimal amount of classroom training about your electrical system: say about 6 hours. the technician that went to this members home had, at the time of this inpection, over 8000 hours of apprenticeship, plus another 6000 hours as a jounrneyman electrician, as well as the 4 hours of CEU that all electricians take annually to renew their license. We have rewired many homes for Angies List Members, as well as make repairs based on the smaller options. In fact, if you look a few reviews down, you will find a member that gave us straight A's, who just went though a final phase of a rewire that we have staged, at her convenience over the last year. You will also notice that of 139 review, over 8 out of 10 are straight A's. That is because they used our service to make their repairs. So please consider an electrical safety inspection with Angies List Big Deal. Yes it is our business, and yes, we do earn a living doing electrical repairs. Our commitment is to educate our customer on their whole electrical system. And yes, if you have many repairs , safety issues or need the old ungrounded wiring or obsolete breaker panel replaced, it is our ethical duty to inform you and give you several options to take control of your electrical system. ONE LAST COMMENT THE TECHNICIAN SAID THAT I HAD RATS AND MICE IN MY ATTIC EATING THE WIRES! BY CHANCE MY EXTERMINATOR WAS COMING RIGHT AFTER HIM. HE ASKED ME IF I HAD ANY PROBLEMS, I TOLD HIM WHAT THE TECH SAID, HE LOOKED UP IN THE ATTIC AND SAW NO EVIDENCE OF RATS OR MICE EATING THE WIRES! I GUESS UNIVERSAL TECHS ARE ALSO TRAINED IN RODENT CONTROL. THIS YEAR I HAD JOHN MOORE COME INTO DO SOME WIRING AND A CHECK ON THE SYSTEM AND THEY DID NOT NOTICE THE ISSUES THAT A REFERENCED ABOVE.

Yes $500 is a lot of money, but it's cheap compared to getting your computer fried, losing your data, or heck just rebuilding the hard drive if it gets corrupted.
Just like last time they called about 30 minutes before they came and the tech Mike fixed me right up.
They were polite, and understanding of my concerns.
They worked from 8 am to 4 pm, and cleaned up everything.
They will return to do additional inside work next month.
Super work ! Super guys !
Offered details for additional services that the firm performs, and even fixed a minor oversight left by a previous electrician performing a complete house re-wiring!
A few years ago I had used Universal Wiring to replace a ballast in my kitchen. Price was around $175 and service person also cut new plastic covering and installed at no extra charge. I was extremely satisfied so upon recommendations from Angie's list decided to use again.
Very courteous, professional service. Larry called 30 minutes before appt. and arrived on time as scheduled. He wrote an estimate that was outrageous. He quoted a T12 to T8 retrofit would be $267 EACH!! I was shocked and said forget it because I couldn't afford $534.00. I also didn't realize the $59.00 service charge was added on so my bill would have been around $600!!!
When I said forget it, I couldn't afford that, without missing a beat Larry "asked me if I just wanted to replace the ballast. He then wrote a quote for replacing T8 ballast for $179 each. What was the difference? He would provide the $6.97 light bulbs for approximately $200 more!
Larry said he didn't work on commission but was paid hourly. I feel like I was being scammed by Universal trying to charge me almost $200 more for two $6.97 light bulbs!!!
BOTTOM LINE: $30.00 worth of parts cost me $417.00 for about one hours work.
Maybe I should quit my low paying teaching job so I can charge outragous prices. I feel sorry for all the people who actually go with their first quote.
"Thank you for giving us an opportunity to make your repair. this member is correct, The old T12 parts are phased out, soon probably T8 and even flourescent will be phased out altogether. So our only solution is to retrofit the fixture or replace it. The technician, Larry quoted the correct price, and then gave a DISCOUNT. Now anyone reading this: Please notice the straight A's for what we are hired for. Professional and expert technicians who are safe, ( drug and backrgound checked,), licensed, insured, ontime, clean, courteous. If it makes you feel better, we lose money on small jobs like this everyday. Yet this is our business and we are happy to make small repairs. In fact it is our specialty. So I wish that I could cut costs and still deliver outstanding service, I really do. But I would rather spend more on the overhead to deliver that outstanding service than risk a poor service experience. Please read on, you have 110 A rated reveiws to go."
Tom and Jess came out on time, called before they arrived, and got straight to work. After they were done, they went through all the new install with me, and even showed me what I would need to do to properly ground my switches and outlets. They warned me that, while I could hire them to ground all the switches and outlets, it would be expensive because of the time involved, not because of the difficulty. Based on that, I plan on grounding the switches and outlets myself, since I'm reasonably handy. I was very happy with their work and the time they took to explain everything to me. I felt it was well worth the cost, not only for the resale value of the house, but also for plain old safety reasons. Oh, and my attic has not lost power since. Thank you, guys!
I felt that given the amount of time spent in locating the problem and repairing it, the charge was excessive. Especially considering the parts for the repairs probably were $20 or less.
I had asked for an estimate to add an outlet from a panel in the garage, through a wall in the adjacent room. The job involved adding a breaker to an existing panel, running approximately 30' of wire, installing a new outlet box in the wall and wiring in a new wall receptacle. The estimate he gave me for this work was approximately $1,100.00. The reason I wanted the estimate was because I do not currently have the time to do the work. I estimate I could do the work in about two hours. So I calculate at $85/hour, plus a generous estimate of $100 in parts, the job would cost around $270. Assuming a very slow person doing the work, taking 4 hours, the total charge would be $440, not even close to the $1,100 estimate.
When he showed me the estimates to do the other additional work he was suggesting, I almost started laughing. $3,000.00 to upgrade the outlets in the house, but it does come with a three year warranty.
i suspect the technicians work on a commission and share on the profits from any additional work they sell the clients.
My suggestion, if you have a problem, they are qualified, courteous, professional on on time. You will pay more than from a local qualified electrician. They can get the work you need done. Do not agree to any additional work they are suggesting.
I think in the future I will look for a qualified local electrician.
"I appreciate this member giving us an opportunity to make his electrical repair. Anyone reading this should look again at the grades this member gave us: Quality: A. Responsiveness: A; Punctuality: A; Professionalism: A We charged him $426 and his electrican was their about 3 hours. Because we are experts and we know what we are doing, we can give you an upfront amount for the work that you will then be able to approve,or not. This member was given an upfront price for his repair, which he approved and we stood by and did not change on him at the end of the job. I would rather spend the money on overhead to provide great serivice with expert technicians that are so awesome, they seem a little fast so that all my custoemrs give me A's on what is most important, their service experience and their guarantee htan cut corners and provide inferior service. Please beware of low cost hourly companies. Why are they charging by the hour? Maybe because they dont know what they are going to do and they dont have enough experience to be able to understand what is going to happen in the next few hours. We are a LOCAL, Independent, Electrical Only Service and Repair Company. Which means we only work on homes owned by people. Most Electrical contractors work for Companies and Buildings. In other words, when they are not working on a new high rise or Nuclear Power Plant, and they have some time, and you call at the right time, they will send someone to your home. Since they work for buildings, are their people background checked and drug tested? Do they know how wiring in homes works or do they only understand industrial plants? This is what we do, hire and train the right electrican. Someone who is safe for you to invite into your home. Who is a residential electrical expert and will give you an accurate repair and infrorm you of any safety deficiencies that are found in your home. If you want an electrican to run in and out of your home and only fix the sympton and possibly leave an unsafe condition. You can call anyone. If you want an expert to come to your home, spend time to understand your unique electrical system and recommend multiple options that will not only repair the sympton but permanentally fix your home's electrical safety issues with a 3 year warranty and a 100% Satisfaction Guarantee, then We are the electrical company of choice for you to call."
