Ryan arrived on time, after giving me a phone call to let me know he was about 45 minutes away. He was very professional, introduced himself, wore shoe covers. Very knowledgeable, too. He helped me with several ideas on how we might address a complicated lighting problem in the house, and provided several estimates based on possible remedies. He also explained the benefits of UHE's partner plan, which I signed up and paid for (part of the total cost of the job). UHE has serviced our home on several other occasions, all with excellent outcomes. I highly recommend them.

I was very pleased with the entire process. Ryan was personable and professional. He arrived promptly, assessed the situation, and went right to work, completing the project in a very reasonable amount of time. He was careful not to damage my tile when removing the old dishwasher. He also cleaned the area for any debris that was already there and any mess that was created by the removal without my asking. The only issue (and it is small) would be more specificity with regard to the time scheduled when calling the office to set an appointment. I would certainly call them again when needed.

It is hard to get enthusiastic about spending thousands of dollars to replace things that do not have any visible problems. I've never had any known problems with my breakers, so, it is no fun to spend thousands of dollars to get no visible difference. Yet, I know that it needed to get done. When I bought my house 15 years ago, the inspector said the brand of breakers that were in my house were out of business and known to be bad. They were Federal Pacific and Angie's list has an article on them right here. But, I went ahead and kept them for the past 15 years. I hadn't had any obvious problem. But, I wanted to add a new power outlet, which is what I originally called Universal Home Experts to do. Problem is, they said they couldn't do what I wanted because it would be against electric codes and I'd have to get the breaker box replaced to what I wanted. Some customers might at this point think they were trying to rip me off, calling them out for a $100 job, and saying I needed a $4,000 job. But, I knew he was correct. Not thrilled about it, of course. But, I accepted it as being the right thing to do. As I said, my original home inspection 15 years ago told me as much. I do tend to think that I could have got the job done cheaper if I hired an independent contractor instead of a large company. I don't know that for a fact, I didn't go get bids. But I tend to suspect it is true. But, they did do a perfect job. The got on site when the promised, and got finished earlier than they promised. All breakers were marked and tested. Job site was left clean. Only one slight glitch, and that is, a little better explanation of what was needed from the electric company. They needed to do a temporary disconnect. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to mention my provider, or the city-wide general grid company. I use one of the bigger ones for my own power, and you presumably know who the city-wide general grid company is. At any rate, the city-wide general company does the actual temporary disconnect. But my own power company needs to put in the order for the disconnect. My own company said they their policy is 2 to 3 day notice. Which was a drag considering that I was calling to get the disconnect done right then! It was eventually determined that my own company has to say that as policy, but they actually don't have a clue about when it is actually done. All my own company needed to do was to put the order into the city-wide company, which then took care of it immediately. That does first depend on the fact that a permit was already obtained, and it was. Bottom line is, if you get in the same situation and your own power company says it will take 2 or 3 days, ignore it, just have them send the order in to the city-wide company immediately and ignore any other caveats they have to say. At least that is the way it worked for me. So, as I said, once we got the temporary disconnect going, everything was quick and smooth after that. No issues, perfect installation.

Mike, the plumbing expert, and Jesus, the A/C expert, arrived on time and very professionally dressed. With Mike in the bathroom where the A/C drain line connected to the sewer line under the sink, and Jesus in the attic, working together the two men were able to unclog the badly clogged line. While Mike was in the bathroom, he noticed that the p-trap to my sink was installed backwards. He took it apart and reinstalled it correctly. Both men were very respectful of my home and made a huge effort to clean up any mess they made. I have used this company many times as a homeowner and have been extremely satisfied with all work done. I heartily recommend this company for any electrical or plumbing issue. Universal installed a new A/C and heater unit for me last year, and continue to service it twice yearly.
Description of Work: A/C overflow line was complely blocked. Blowing it out did not work.

The repairman was punctual and efficient. He determined which phone line went into the elevator service area, fixed the phone service going into the house and made the connection to the elevator. He stepped through the troubleshooting without a problem. I asked him for a cost-effective solution for automatically turning on my outside lights without rewiring, and he suggested a small timer that mounts at the inside light switch. I'm having them return to install those switches and to do some other wiring work at my other house. Highly recommended.

Arrived on time. I had the current timer installed 2 years ago, and it has given me nothing but trouble. Universal came out today, replaced the defective timer with a new one (No charge, and I am on their preferred customer list, so no service charge either). Timer installed, the technician had me program it myself with him standing by giving instructions. So easy. He handed me the instructions, answered a couple of questions, volunteered info about the kinds of lights the timer would support, and was on his way. The technicians are always neatly dressed, take care to not leave any mess after their work, and arrive ON TIME. I highly recommend this company for all electrical work. I plan to use them for the next plumbing problem I have too.

It went great. They were just a tad late, but they did call well in advance to let us know, and these things happen. The individual providing the service was cordial and competent, went right to work, got the job done quickly, and picked up after himself. Very impressed and very pleased. Their price is just a hair higher than most other folks, but well worth it, given their reliability. I'll pay the smidgen more every time for quality like that. Universal Home Experts should be very proud of what they do and how they do it.

During the replacement of our main breaker, the technician hooked up the wiring to our air conditioner backwards, causing the system to send 250 volts of electricity to our compressor unit all weekend long, with nowhere to go. Obviously the air conditioner broke. The company sent another technician, who told me that was what happened. He even called the first technician in my presence and told him what he had done wrong, indicated that the load and lead lines were clearly marked, and that he was re-wiring them correctly. The company then sent a third technician who is experienced with air conditioning units to see what needed to be done. He replaced our compressor under warranty (it was only 4 years old), and replaced the filter line. He stated he cleared out as much of the debris that shot through the lines when the compressor blew out, and he was able to get the system to run. That was on August 15. The air conditioning ran for a week, until the compressor blew out again on August 22. We called the company again and Joe came out today, August 26, to verify that the compressor was not working. He left, without making any repairs, stating he would not replace the compressor until we or another electrician could verify that the lines were clear in the condenser in the attic! I am appalled that the owner of this company has not called me once to apologize or offer any solutions. I have reported them to the BBB and would not ever use them again for recommend them to anyone. I intend to take them to small claims court in order to get my air conditioner fixed, which they clearly broke. Terrible experience. Technicians were all very nice, but whoever is making the decisions up in management needs to take responsibility for this and fix it. I paid $59 to have someone blow my entire air conditioning system and then not fix it. Inexcusable.

It went great! Our oven breaker wasn't working due to a power surge from a prior storm with lightening a week ago. Ryan went to the breaker box and had the oven working in no time! He took time to explain everything to me and was very honest even telling me that he just tested the breaker and managed to get it to work. I was so grateful for his professionalism and honesty. I wouldn't have know that he didn't need to change it except for him telling me that. He didn't even charge us the trip charge! Thank you so much Ryan. By the way I also found out from Ryan that Universal Home Experts also service AC and Heating, and plumbing needs. I will definitely call them again as a need arises, and will be sure to recommend them to everyone.

After talking with them, they said they would refund because it was a mistake. They never did refund it. I checked online for the actual price, and they overcharged me. They never would provide me with an itemized statement. After asking for a refund of $500, they said they could only refund $375. After all was done, they ended up refunded me about $800. I felt like they overcharged me and took advantage of me. The prices were far too high and they overcharged me. The service wasn't terrible, but it was not a good quality company.
Description of Work: Came out on July 9th to check my AC. He told me I needed a new part for it, and I felt like I needed the part because it looked rusty. He sold me the service agreement for $179 in order to get free service calls and extra benefits. My total bill for that call was for $478, which seemed like a lot. When I got online to check the price of the price for $200, the general prices were much less. After some leaks from my water heater were worrying me, I called to have them check it because of my agreement. He told me I needed a very expensive part, and I might need to consider a new one. I ended up purchasing a new one, and they ended up charging me $2448. They also charged me about $300 for a "city inspection."

Thanks for giving us a call. Now I am really confused. You gave us an A for everything that means something: Responsiveness, punctuality and professionalism. Now anyone reading this, wouldn’t you agree that those three are the most important? Now apparently we are not the right company for this member. You see we did not charge him any money, yet we spent over an hour educating him on his 1980 townhouse. He has a 34 year old breaker panel and outlets all over the house with loose connections. His words when he called us: 1/3 of his townhome is out of power. We also gave hem several options: one around $5000 to replace his panel, replace every outlet in his home, test every wire, redo all the connections and give him a ten year warranty. We also gave him another option: for $300 (that’s several hundred just like he paid) we would FIND AND BANDAID. So we came out the same day he called, at his convenience after 5 pm so he could meet us after work; spent over an hour with him at no charge. Educated him on his entire electrical system; and gave him multiple options for ensuring he never called an electrician again down to a “several hundred dollar Band-Aid. He gives us A ratings for what is truly important but gives us an F for quality (nothing was done, because we do not perform repairs without your approval) and an F for price because the other contractor only specializes in Band-Aids not permanent solutions. So therefore an F overall, why not just give us an F for everything? The lesson here: Please call us if you want a professional electrician to come out to your home and make a permanent repair so you can spend your time doing things other than meeting with electricians. (Us) Or you can hire the fix and go electrician (Not us) who will band aid your circuit for “several hundred dollars” But you get to take time out of your life to meet with him all the time, since he never makes a real repair. We value your time. We will educate on your entire system so that you can make informed decisions that may include multiple options that will put the choice in your hands. We will respect your home with background checked technicians, floor and shoe covers. We will perform a repair for you that we will 100% guarantee.

Ryan Brady arrived promptly at the beginning of the scheduled service window. He was very courteous, friendly and professional from beginning to end. After diagnosing the problems accurately, he explained every detail of his findings, the proper way to repair them, and went over his findings from inspecting the electrical system in our house, including prioritizing the importance/urgency for any future work. He completed the work quickly and professionally, and left the spaces in pristine condition. We will definitely be using Universal Home Experts for future electrical repairs and requesting Ryan back to our house.

Thank you for purchasing a surge protector for your home from us. A surge protector for your home is like a firewall or anti virus for your computer. If you do not notice anything happening, it means it is working. In the Houston area, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, there are approximately 1.5 Million lighting strikes in any year. That is Million with a Capital M. If you live in Houston, your electrical system has been surged by lighting and you need a surge protector. If you have had trouble; or have had to replace the electronics for your alarm system, ac system, appliances, garage door openers, smoke detectors, dimmers etc., then you probably have had a surge in the electrical system caused by a lightning strike. It does not need to hit your house. An air-burst blocks away could surge the entire neighborhood around you. We always recommend installing a surge protector to prevent damage to your electrical system.

I called last week Thursday to schedule an appt. for Monday. The tech Jesus arrived on time. He asked me what issues I had been experienced. I had told him I wanted to make sure the a/c was running as efficiently as possible since I had just bought the home 2 months prior. Jesus went in the attic, checked all duct work. He also checked the a/c unit on the side of the house..I did a very detailed inspection and reported back that everything was in perfect running order and just recommended moving something away from an air return vent. This is the second time I used this company and I will continue to use them for all my Electric, plumbing, and Heating and Air conditioning needs. Also Jesus was very knowledgeable extremely polite and professional.
