They came over inspected everything and they were real fast and good went over every details that was being done and explained the reason for it. They kept asking me and my mother if I had any questions that needed to be answered. This Company was really a blessing they went straight in and started and cleaned up after when they were finished. I am very happy to of found this company.

I had multiple items I wanted completed, so I asked for a quote of what they could get done in one day. He said all of it as long as he could get a couple of helpers out. We agreed on the price and he called for help - then he was called to another job. Basically I had two 'helpers' working with no supervision. They didn't finish what they started and had to come back the next day. Same thing happened - they got started, and then the experienced electrician was called away to do jobs elsewhere. I remember being angry that I had to go fetch the helpers back to work after a 90 minute lunch break. When the electrician finally came back, he went around fixing the things the helpers had done. The electrician had to come back a day or two later because something kept tripping the breaker to take out my ceiling fan and stove - which should have had nothing to do with each other. He told me that the fan was not rewired as requested - the helpers added it to an existing kitchen circuit instead of to the new circuit they were installing in the dining room, plus the wires in the switch plate were not done correctly. He recommended leaving the circuits as they were and just fixed it so they didn't trip any more. I called the office to complain and was not satisfied with their response. I just wrote it off and decided not to use them again. Fast forward to November. The same breaker tripped turning off the same fan and stove. I called another electrician out to fix it. He found a wire in the attic that had been stapled THROUGH instead of over, and it was blackened in that area. So yes, the breaker did its job and shut off power. The new electrician also pointed out that one of the outside outlets had been added to the dining room circuit rather than the outside circuit as requested. When it was Universal Wiring, I was very happy with the service I received from the electricians between 2005 and 2012. I was even a member of their club until the office insisted that I add coverage for hvac work as well as electrical. Now that they have 'expanded' to Universal Home Experts, their quality of work and service has definitely deteriorated. There is no way I would use them again. For anyone who does use them, make sure that the experienced electricians stay on your job until it is completed - don't let them say they will be right back and will check the work later.
Description of Work: Rewiring in 1960 house - they ran 5 new circuits into 2 rooms plus garage and installed multiple outlets; added 2 additional outlets outside to an existing circuit.

Oscar was superb, professional, personable and smart. He was one of best electricians I've encountered and solved problems others had not been able to fix (the entry stair light fixture) I was told I would get a call at 11:00 am and I did. Also got an email alert that Oscar on his way. Then I was told Oscar would arrive within an hour and he did. No 4-6 hour window of waiting. So great! Dispatch personnel was also excellent. Great experience beginning to end - thank you Oscar and Universal. It was more than I had hoped to spend but excellent work. They clearly hire the best of the best. Highly recommend.

This went as bad as any service could go. First I made an appointment for them to come to my house to perform this work. They were to come to my house September 9th. They called me around lunch time on the 9th to tell me they would not be out and needed to reschedule my appointment for the following week. I told them I had painters scheduled to come on Monday and the lights needed to be changed before that. They, told me some one didn't come to work and there was nothing they could do about it. I called them back and told them I was going to write a review on Angie's list and give them an "F" I got a call back very shortly. They were going to come on Monday and send me an arrangement from Edible Arrangements for my trouble. I got my arrangement and a manager showed up on Monday. He told me my job would cost me over $2,600. This price seemed very high, so I called my husband and said what should we do. We decided to,go ahead because the lights had to be changed before Monday. I now believe I was given this price because they figured we wouldn't pay that much. I have since checked other electricians and have found out I was price gouged. We are senior citizens and feel like we have been taken advantage by a company that was trying to get out of doing our job. I also never received an itemized bill. I have receipts and cancelled checks to back up this review. Sharon Kennedy
Description of Work: 1. Changed kitchen fixture. 2. Installed fan in kitchen that needed support bar. 3. Replaced ceiling fan in family room. 4. Replaced lights on both sides of garage door. 5. Took down light in living room. I supplied all the light fixtures.

Customer called in on 9/8 to have someone install light fixtures, and check on an exterior light. She was scheduled for 9/9, first available after 2pm. Unfortunately we did have an unforeseeable tech shortage on that day, and in order to accommodate those with emergencies, we called the customer to reschedule. This reschedule was done in plenty of time. And customer was sent an arrangement for her inconvenience of having to reschedule. To which the customer called and thanked us for, and assure that everything was ok. We sent our most qualified and professional technician to the customers home to do the work. And while our prices are not the least expensive in town, we definitely provided very high quality work and stand behind the work that we do. In no way was the customer price gouged. We have a standard and very straight forward price book and do not make up prices as we go along. We also waived the fee for our Service Partner membership for said customer. This program offers our customers 4 checks throughout the year on their plumbing, electric, and spring and fall HVAC, at no cost to the customer because they are a member. It is unfortunate that the customer feels that they were taken advantage of. We hope that the customer will reconsider and use our services in the future.

Angie's List contacted me sometime in late 2013 or early 2014 regarding the service and I told them that there had been no service, only a loss of the $74.00 spent for nothing. They said they were send me a refund. It is now September 2015 and I've never received a refund or the service.
Description of Work: Many attempts had been made to contact this business. After serveral messages I gave up. I paid $74.00 for an Angie's List special for electrical service. I eventually found that the company went out of business.

We hadn't heard an ETA on our technician apparently due to phone difficulties at Universal. For this they kindly waived the $69 service fee. I wasn't there when he arrived so my wife presented him with my request. When I arrived a bit later he told me the panel had "a lot" of corrosion, and my neutral and ground wires were improperly bonded together with no connection between the grounding rod outside and the breaker box. He had also been considering a more expensive option (he told my wife it could be something on the order of $2800) to run the new line out thru the brick exterior, then through a new exterior conduit, then back thru the brick exterior a few feet away from the breaker box where I wanted the outlet. Running the wire exterior to the house is quite absurd. There is easy attic access above the garage and it would be a simple matter to fish the line where I wanted it. That he considered this option without investigating if there was an easier approach is telling. When I suggested it, he said, "Yeah we could do that to", but with this new information, he did not revise his bid. After he left I opened up the breaker box and did not observe any significant corrosion. All the terminals, wires, and bars looked to be in good shape. There are also separate neutral and ground bars. The neutral bar is properly connected to the utility neutral, and the ground bar properly connected to the ground rod outside. They are definitely not bonded together. I, as a non-electrician, was able to riddle this out with about 5 minutes of investigation. I would expect an experienced electrician to accomplish the same task in a single glance. He wrote down his observations and asked me to sign them saying that this was necessary in case another electrician looked at the box and wondered why the Universal licensed electrician didn't address the issues. This sounded to me like the old "Legally I can't let you drive out of here on these tires" routine. I suspect he was either trying to pull one over on me and/or my wife. At best he is not taking the time to figure out what he's looking at or what we're asking him to do. $1000 is unreasonable for an outlet install, especially one as easy as mine. $2800 is downright insane. I suspect he presented that idea so that $1000 would seem affordable. Had I paid the $69 service fee to get this absurd quote, I would've been much more upset.
Description of Work: Just purchased a house. I wanted to add a single 240-volt outlet to the garage fairly close to the breaker panel, re-purposing an unused dryer breaker (although upgraded from 30 to 40 amps). He bid $1000, or $1400 including a panel tune up.

Thank you for your feedback. We have almost 350 "A" rated reviews. Your technician has been employed by us for almost 2 years and has an impeccable record with us. I understand that this was a large amperage circuit for your electric car charger which is delicate electronic equipment. Electrical panels my look like they are installed correctly but allowing neutrals and grounding conductors to bond with each other before the main can create voltage issue that will affect electronic equipment. I believe the technician was proposing work that another electrician would overlook but does have value although it appears invisible. I hope that the end result was that you had the circuit installed that will lead to years of reliable use, comes with a 5 year warranty and is correct and will not create any safety issues in the future.

My A/C drain kept stopping up. Technicians were able to unstop it last year, but not this year. The overflow drain was working overtime. Erik and Anthony installed the French drain in about an hour, which entailed cutting off the old drain, and hooking up the new drain which drains to the outside of my house. If it ever stops up, it will be easy to unstop as it does not connect to any other plumbing feature in the house like the old drain did. Erik and Anthony arrived on time, dressed professionally, and got right to work in the really hot attic.

I have had Danny do work for me before. He knows his stuff. I would trust him with any plumbing problems I had. Tankless heater was dirty for sure -- he showed me the flushed residue. The outside faucet took a blowtorch to get the old faucet off and the new faucet on. He was on time and dressed like a professional, which I appreciate.
Description of Work: Drained my tankless water heater, replaced a leaky outside faucet. Danny did a wonderful job, even rewrapped my pipes outside like I had them wrapped before the faucet was replaced. He even rehooked up my hose. Nice job by a great technician.

Both technicians arrived on time, neatly dressed in clean uniforms, and both put on booties before entering the house. After my full yearly inspection of both electrical and plumbing systems, both men went over what they found, and made recommendations for possible future problems. I will follow up on some of those options. Both Danny and Gilberto were courteous, and well informed. Both were very personable. I highly recommend having a yearly maintenance check and will continue to use this great company in the future.

I called on this provider to come out and change a battery on a smoke detector that I could not reach (18 foot ceiling). They told me that they could not change the battery, they could only replace the entire detector, which is brand new by the way. Then the Technician told me that if I change the battery it would cost $350 and then he went outside to write up a ticket for $450. Needless to say, I paid the lousy service charge of $60 for nothing and sent him on his way. Talk about clearly misleading... I am extremely disappointed!

Joel was our main Universal contact and estimator. He answered all our questions thoroughly and was easy to reach during the job, which took several days. The electricians sent to work made sure to introduce themselves every day and kept us informed of the project as it progressed. The work was completed on time and on budget. If you are getting several bids for your project, please understand if you choose to work with Universal, they will not be the cheapest quote. However, if you want prompt service, responsive communication and quality workmanship, I would recommend Universal. The only thing that was mildly annoying was when we were in the middle of buying the home and getting bids to help us with final negotiations, Universal would not give us a bid unless we were the homeowners. This meant we had to get another electrician to give us quotes during the purchase. Overall, we are glad we used Universal and will call them back for future electrical projects.
Description of Work: Having used Universal’s electrical services in our previous home in 2008, we called them when purchasing our new home in 2014. The home we bought had several quirky electrical issues but most importantly, it had aluminum wiring. Knowing the dangers of not properly handling aluminum wiring, we had Universal fix over 120 outlets, switches, etc. Also, the main electrical service underground pipe was poorly installed and allowing water/moisture in. There was some additional work in the junction box, lights in the garage and new light switches in both master closets. For this depth of repair, permits were needed, which Universal took care of and coordinated with the city inspector. Everything went very well from the time I called Universal Home Experts until they walked out the door. When I called to make the appointment it was quick and easy and the woman I spoke with was extremely pleasant. The day before they arrived I received a call to confirm the appointment. The day of service they called to say they would be arriving in 30 minutes which they did. There were 2 electricians who worked on the job Raul and Joel. Both were pleasant, professional and really seemed to like the company they work for. They gave me a price before they started the job and explained what was going to be done. Joel got things started and then Raul took over. He explained what he was doing as he went along and showed me what he had done once it was completed. Before each of them left they asked if I had any questions or if there was anything else they could do for me. They were both very respectful of my property and wore protective "booties" over their shoes so as not to track anything into my home.

They showed up on time and appeared professional. We had a GFI circuit in the garage that tripped our freezer and wanted evaluated/fixed. They suggested we can run a new circuit through the attic from the circuit box 20' away ($1200) and also inspect/rewire the other 5 GFI outlets on the same circuit for an add'l $800 (~$2,000 total). We asked about installing an additional non-GFI plug next to the GFI outlet - they said they could not do that. We had them change out the GFI outlet for ~$180 and sent them home. We had another electrician come out. They quoted $300 vs. Universal's $1200 to run a new circuit from the box through the attic, but recommended just installing a non-GFI box next to the GFI outlet for only ~$125 (something Universal did not suggest and when I asked said could not do). They did not recommend inspecting / rewiring the other 5 GFI outlets on the same circuit since our home is only 7 years old. When asked they said just replacing the existing GFI box was about ~$25 vs the ~$180 we were charged by Universal. Run, don't walk from these guys - they charge way above what is a fair price. Fixed the problem for ~$125, not ~$2,000!
