Jim Lupo and his team were a delight to work with and I highly recommend them. I narrowed my search on Angie's List down to three contractors and scheduled appointments for estimates. After speaking and meeting with all three, it was an easy decision for me to select Tri-Way Enterprises, owner Jim Lupo, for several reasons. The main one was how he spoke and took pride is his work and would not compromise on the quality output. They arrived on time each day and thoroughly cleaned their worksite before they departed. The scope of work included walls painted, tape joints repaired, retextured and painted, ceilings textured and painted. They were meant with a couple of challenges during the project, but I was pleased with how they resolved them and always with positive attitudes. By the way, Jim is a great singer!
Description of Work: Painted breakfast area and entrance foyer walls. Painted kitchen and breakfast room ceilings. Repaired, textured and painted entrance foyer and family room ceilings. Stained front entrance door and painted wood trim around door.

I wanted to rate the estimate and preliminary work first because this is a very big job and I am very impressed with what I have dealt with so far. If this is any sign of what is to come then I am excited to start. I want to say that all the other contractors were professional and courteous, but Tri-Way stood out from all the rest. Jim brought samples of his work, none of the other guys did. His ideas were great and we talked about ways to do the jobs cost effective, but not cutting the quality. Like all of us, Jim doesn't know everything and he told me this. After our first meeting, he told me that I had several jobs that required different skills that he wasn't an expert on, especially the roofing and the concrete, but he had guys that worked for him that did. A week later he showed up with his WHOLE team and we came up with the perfect plan. Four days later, he emailed me the detailed estimate and I was floored by the price. I expected all this to cost at least $30,000.
Description of Work: This is going to be a 2 part review. I just want to say first that Mr. Lupo is a stand up guy and he knows his stuff. I have several jobs that I am planning to have done on my house. I had 4 contractors come to my house, which I found all on Angie's List, and Jim was top notch. My jobs are turning my house into a wheelchair accessible home plus other things I want done. The jobs are; remodeling the shower, replacing tile in the bathroom and replacing the commode. I need a closet door widened and the shelves lowered. I'm turning double windows in the master bedroom into double French doors that will open up to the back patio. The back patio is going to be extended all the way to the side of the house and will be covered. They are going to build a sidewalk that will attach to the back patio to the front porch. Both existing porches will be raised 4 inches to give my wheelchair a zero clearance to the interior and exterior of the my home. He is going to build me a wheelchair accessible work bench in the garage, complete with extra shelving and fluorescent lighting. He is also installing a drainage system by the sidewalk to prevent water from collecting around the concrete and he's installing gutters in the back part of the house. The total estimate was under $25,000 including tax.
Jim was prompt in showing up to give me an estimate. He itemized all projects so I could tailor the project to my budget. He worked extremely hard and has an eye for detail. There were a few adjustments along the way and Jim was very accommodating. Excellent work.
Description of Work: Kitchen - installed granite countertops, new sink and faucet, installed tile backsplash (with under counter lights) and tiled kitchen island. Installed new light fixture in dining area, and can lights in kitchen. Bathroom - removed old tile and installed new. Installed new vanity, bathtub, and toilet. Removed extra bathroom door and replaced with sheetrock to create more wall space. Built closet for second bedroom. Installed can lights in living room.
Jim and his assistant did a great job and were the most reasonably priced of the four estimates I received. They started on a Saturday, worked all that day, returned on Monday and worked from 9 am to 10 pm, returned the third day and completed by 1 pm. They were meticulous, courteous and professional and charged a very fair price. I don't think I will need or want to get multiple estimates for future remodeling or repair work as I feel confident just going straight to him and knowing he'll probably give me a very good price and do a quality job. I'm already lining up carpeting work with him next.
Description of Work: Repair water damage to floor and joists, which required cutting out rotted joists and plywood, replacing and/or repairing floor joists, replacing rotted plywood over joists, installing tile flooring in bathroom, and reconnecting toilet.

The company seemed very competent, they presented a good plan for getting the work done, bringing knowledgeable resources for the roofing and flooring as well as expertise in sheet rocking, painting and mold remediation following water damage. Would have used them except pressure from insurance company to use company with same estimating software.
Description of Work: I asked this company to bid on a comprehensive repair job to my house after hurricane Ike. Including roof, interior walls, wood and laminate flooring and repair to a pergola deck cover. They were very easy to work with, providing good alternatives for what work could be done and how it would be accomplished. They brought in knowledgeable people who would handle each separate task. I would have used them, but the damage to my home was very extensive and in order to get the work done and get this insurance company to buy off on the cost of the job, I wound up having to go with a company that used the same estimating software as the insurance company. It would end up costing them more than Triway would have. This company at all times was professional, engaged, interested and seemed very dedicated to insuring that the customer would be satisfied.
Jim gave me an estimate in late August and after I made the decision to award him the contract, he said that he could do the job the latter part of September and would take about two weeks. He spent about an hour and a half with me just making notes, measuring and discussing what it was I wanted. Well, as we all know, Ike roared through our area and after about two weeks, I hadn't heard from Jim so I emailed him. I figured he had taken on other jobs after the Hurricane and my job was shoved back. He called and told me he had not taken any extra jobs and would start within two weeks. Two weeks got closer and I became anxious because I had not heard from him and left him an "anxious" voice mail. He immediately called me and said he would be at my house on Monday, Oct. 13. Jim finished the job on the 29th. Jim and his crew were very professional and easy going. Some really good conversations since it was election year. I would have liked for Jim to touch base with me in the afternoon to let me know how the day had gone, instead of me having to call him. I asked him to leave me an estimate to re-tile my walk in shower, which he did.
Description of Work: I had kitchen updated. Knocked out part of wall, three cabinets to open up kitchen area to the den. Refinished and painted existing cabinets. Replaced countertops and bar area with granite and travertine backsplash. Removed wall oven cabinet, replaced with shelves and left existing cabinet below. That extra countertop area and space made a huge difference. Removed existing cook top and replaced with a slide in gas range. Also, installed new dishwasher and faucet. Repainted kitchen and dining area walls, trim and ceiling. Replaced ceiling lights with can lights, installed under cabinet dimmer lights. Jim had some ideas I had not thought about. The kitchen is beautiful!!

He came and worked with us on determining what we wanted to do with our old, worn out shower. He ripped out all the old tile, put in a shower pan to bring it up to code, and then laid the new tile, installed the new shower fixtures, and installed new sink faucets. When it was done, it didn't drain as well as we would have liked, and he came out and redid the floor of the shower. Now it drains and looks great.
Description of Work: He installed a new walk in shower in our master bath as well as new sink fixtures.

Jim and his co-workers really came to the rescue when a disastrous, partially completed bathroom project needed to be re-done. We really needed experienced, trustworthy people who could do what they said, and Tri-Way fit the bill. Jim offered help with design, tile selection, and paint colors and his many years of experience provided reassurance. His crew was professional, punctual, polite, and hard working. One of the things I appreciated most was my ability to contact Jim and get a prompt response. My bathroom turned out better than I believed possible and I am grateful that I had these guys to help me.
Description of Work: Tri-Way removed tile and backer board from a badly begun shower re-do. They made adjustments to the shower floor and "squared" the shower, shower opening, and shampoo boxes. They started fresh with better quality materials including a better coordinating shower tile. They also removed some badly laid floor tiles and tiled the floor correctly with original tile I had selected. The bathroom walls were textured and painted, and new baseboards were installed. Plumbing fixtures and a new shower door were installed. Everything was left clean and ready to use.
Jim and company are great and we already have them booked for another job! Every member of the crew is professional, friendly, and respectful. They even worked late several evenings to be finished by the time promised! They do a great job for a very reasonable price!! We recommend them highly!

I contacted Jim due largely in part to his reputation here on Angie's List. He came by to see what we had in mind, that was on the day before Thanksgiving. He said it would take about one week to get me the estimate due to holidays, etc. I said no problem. I never heard from him. I tried emailing him, but I got a message saying that my message was blocked and was asked to fill out a form and when he received it, he would determine if I was spam or not...never heard back. I called him several times and finally got through, he apologized and said he would get me my quote in a few days. Nothing. I called last weekend and left a message saying that I was still interested in hiring him, (because I really thought he was a nice man) and asked him to please call me and let me know either way. Nothing. That was very unprofessional.

A week and a half after Jim's visit I followed up with an e-mail and then a voice message four days later asking when we could expect the bid. Jim responded by e-mail that "Sorry it has taken awhile to get back with you; however, due to my work schedule, booked thru May 2008, I will not be able to get an estimate to you." I had enjoyed talking with Jim during the walk through and looked forward to receiving his estimate. So I was quite surprised and disappointed to receive this notice. If Jim was already booked that far in advance, he should have told us up front and declined to come out in the first place.

Jim gave us a detailed estimate and revised it twice as we requested numerous changes. He began work on the agreed start date by covering all of our floors and started the demolition of our bathroom. The work went as planned and Jim as well his subcontractors did a great job. We are very pleased with both our new bathroom and kitchen as they turned out beautifully. Jim is a perfectionist and it shows in his work. About a week after the work was completed we noticed a couple of minor things that needed attention. Jim was quick to respond and showed up first thing Saturday morning to attend to them.
Description of Work: Jim did a total re-model of the master bath replacing tub and enclosure, vanity top, sinks, fixtures, commode, lighting, tile flooring, windows and doors and installed fans. Granite countertops were installed in the kitchen with new sinks, fixtures, undercounter lighting and gas cooktop. He also removed cabinets and furdown and repaired ceiling.
I was very happy with the work that Jim did. He was very detailed and wouldn't leave until the job was done right. He worked in my house every day until the job was done. He usually had one or two other people helping, but he was almost always there. I think that he gave me a very fair price for the quality of work that he did.
Description of Work: Jim and his crew repaired and textured Sheetrock walls and ceilings, then painted all walls, ceilings, cabinets, doors, etc. They removed a 12 foot section of wall and installed a new support. They removed the existing flooring and tiled the kitchen, living room, dining room, hallway and bathroom. They removed and replaced cabinet in 3 bedrooms. They replaced a window, replaced several doors and door knobs. They removed a broken pocket door and created a cased opening. They repaired the a/c, installed a new thermostat, new filters in wall and ceiling, supplied and installed door stops, removed hall ironing board closet and replaced with new Sheetrock, installed 2 ceiling fans and did some other electrical work and repaired or replaced several other minor things.
They were very accommodating to our needs. The men were respectful and professional. I was very pleased with the work they did for us.
Description of Work: They fixed some crown molding through out my home, re-tiled our bathroom floor, installed a new shower and sink and painted the interior of my 1900 square foot home.

Jim showed up on time and got straight to work. He did work a little too late for my schedule but I looked at it as he was a hard worker. I found that the price was very reasonable especially for all the work that he did.

James was very nice and professional. He responded right away. I did not select him because he never got back to me with an estimate. I called him to give him a 2nd chance (we all have emergencies, etc, and I did not want to assume the worst). He apologized and said he'd get back to me. It has been 2 months, still no word. I have decided to move on. But I have no hard feelings toward him, and thought his manner in person (and on the phone) was very personable. I just never heard back was all.

Overall, I was very pleased. Mr. Lupo met me at the house at our agreed upon time and looked at the work that needed to be done. He gave me a fair estimate of the cost and was able to begin working the next day. His associate (who did the work) did a great job and left no trash or debris from his work. I was very pleased with the job they did and will definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Pressure-washed outside area of house, did some interior and exterior painting, stained and varnished front door. Also caulked areas around windows that needed it.
Mr. Lupo made a huge effort to find the matching paint for the house. He spent more time than intended to ensure the job was completed correctly. He made sure the work area was clean after completion and surrounding furniture was protected throughout the job. He was very informative and answered any questions I asked in detail. I would recommend Tri-Way enterprises in the future.
Description of Work: The job included: sealing a door, fixing a leaking hose bib, removing, cleaning, and repairing a damaged interior wall with paint and texture, and repairing the trim. There were also some minor patching needed throughout the house.
