While delayed a bit by the large rains, the fences / gates were installed and look great.

I used this company to build a 6' western cedar fence along the back of my property (my neighbors had already built their fence so that saved me money) and two 3' wide gates one side of my home and a standard gate on the other side. I worked with Mike and he answered my questions and was always courteous and professional. The work was done in one day and I am very pleased.

Overall it went perfectly. My main concern was that I would have a self closing gate that my two sons with special needs could not open, but my other son and his friends could open. Summit Fence recommended a latch and a spring which are great. When the spring didn't consistently close the gate at first, they sent someone out the same day to adjust it. All my neighbors are impressed, and I feel so much less worried about my sons with cognitive issues getting out and running into the road.
Description of Work: I chose Summit Fence due to it's great reputation on Angie's List, and I wasn't disappointed. I had been dealing with another Houston Fence company previously, and got tired of poor communication. Summit Fence was a great change... everyone I talked to was helpful and friendly. They were always very punctual and listened to what I want. They installed an iron fence and a self closing gate in front of my entry way and it's great.

Called for an appointment to obtain an estimate to install a driveway gate with operator; estimator returned call within a couple of hours, an appointment for the next morning was scheduled. The estimator arrived on-site at the appointed time; the job requirements were discussed. Summit could not provide all skills needed to complete the job; additional contractors would be required for the job. A quote for the work was provided the next day via email; the quote included an estimate from one of the additional contractors, but still another contractor was needed to complete the job. The Summit Fence South proposal was not accepted because Summit was unable to provide all services necessary to complete the job. Had the job requirements been different, Summit could have been selected.

We picked Summit Fence based on the quality of reviews on Angie's List and couldn't have been happier with all aspects of the process. We moved into a house with no fence around the pool and a decorative fence around the exterior of the property - totally unsuitable for a family with kids and dogs! Despite terrain challenges, landscaping barriers, and sweltering heat, the crew worked hard and did a fantastic job. They removed an old privacy fence and installed a beautiful new one (in a day!), installed wrought iron fencing around the pool (including two huge driveway gates that were custom-made), and constructed hundreds of linear feet of beautiful and unique ranch-like fence that preserves the line of sight but keeps kids & dogs in the yard. I think we met most of our neighbors because they came to tell us how much they liked our new fence! Not only is it beautiful, but the team went back and upgraded some of the items, such as the gate supports,to make the fence stronger than originally anticipated. Any concerns that I had during and AFTER the construction were immediately addressed to my satisfaction. The work crews were amazing - I've never seen guys work so hard in such intense conditions and their craftsmanship was very good. The materials used were also very high quality and I know the beauty of the fence will last for years. I'm 100% satisfied with the whole experience - both customer service and quality of construction.

I was looking to install a wrought iron fence to enclose my driveway. I went online and submitted requests for proposals from a few companies. I got emails with approximate pricing from a few but Phillip the salesman from Summit Fence South wanted to come out and take a look a what needed to be done before providing me with a quote. After looking at the driveway, Phillip offered an option of just a gate to connect to existing fencing that I wasn't thinking of but was the best fit for me. I got a quick quote which was a little higher than the others but I was impressed with the salesman's knowledge not to overprice but to give me just what I needed. Fabrication was quicker than expected and installation was done as promised. The guys installing the gate were very professional and did a great job. I will use them again if I need additional fencing

4/5/11 I called and left a msg for someone to call me back. The next day I emailed detailed measurements and 3 pictures to LScott@summitfencesouth.com and to a competitor. Linda Scott is CFO. No response, no quote. Sales prevention team. Business must be really good or they didn't want to do the job. The competitor had me a quote in 2 hrs and came out to the property the next morning. Installed in 5 days for $300 less than quote. Really happy with them. I won't mention the name here. See my other review.

A storm blew down a 20' section of fence in our backyard. I didn't want to replace the entire span of fence since it was in decent shape and still standing. We also had a small space fenced off for our dogs, and needed a gate for it. He told me the quote would be too high because it was such a small job and he would have to pay his crew for the whole day which normally covered a complete fence job. I understood. His quote was about twice what we ended up paying. I saw photos of Summit's work online and it's very nice for what they do, just wasn't required for what we had.

Summit Fence South was immediately responsive to request for quote and competitive on price- slightly higher than the lowest bidder but SFS was selected due to high ratings an this site. Quote was then revised a couple of times (at my request) to optimum design and features. After submittal of order it took about 3 weeks to begin work- some time for fabrication of iron sections of gate, some time because these guys are busy. Installation of fence and gate in one afternoon, installation of opener the next day. Afterwards, I had SFS give me an additional quote for magnetic lock (oversight on my part in original order) and to finish an existing fence section. Quality of the work is excellent, all interactions with SFS were professional- great experience overall.
Description of Work: Summit Fence South installed an iron driveway gate and fence (12' gate) with automatic opener and magnetic lock, approximately 30' of wood fence (cedar with cap rail), and finished the back of an existing 50" fence with cedar pickets and cap rail

I used Angie's List to find the company that installed my sprinkler system. I was so happy with them, I used Angie's List to find the contractor to do this fence extension. Summit Fence South (SFS) was highly rated and was shown to have won an award of some kind. Initially I was happy with SFS. When I called about a quote, the sales rep came over to provide said quote within a day or 2, around the 3rd week of April 2011. Polite, although not prompt. But he did call me to explain his delay, which was fine. Once I had approval from my HOA to move forward with the work, I signed the quote and submitted to SFS with the required 1/2 money down ($362.50). However, it was almost impossible to reach this sales rep again. I sent him an email on 5/13/2011 to notify him I'd like to schedule the installation. No response. I emailed him again on 5/31/2011 to confirm they received the quote. He indicated they had and would get back with me later that day with a date for installation. Then...nothing. This is where I start to get really angry because SFS had already charged my credit for the initial 1/2 down payment yet no one would get back to me! That's when I started calling the office number. I was told "John" would get back to me to schedule the work. I called that office 2 or 3 times before I actually got to talk to John, and that's ony because he answered the phone! My installation date was scheduled for 6/9/2011 with specific instructions on where the portion of fence closing off the backyard at the front of the house was supposed to be placed. The work was done on 6/9, yet they did not follow my instructions on where to place the enclosing fence at the front of the house. So they had to come back on 6/13 to re-do it, leaving a lot of cement trash in the grass. There was never any paperwork left after the work was done. SFS called to see if they could put the remaining balance through on my card. I wondered if I was even going to get a receipt! I finally did receive an auto-generated letter from the salesman, not even signed, with 2 sheets of paper showing where/when they charged my card. Not professional receipts in the least. The workmanship of the fence itself, when done as requested, was fine. However, I would never recommend this company to anyone I know. No intention of using them in the future for other projects either. Not at all a pleasant experience. Sincerely, Ann Siverson

I called Summit Fence South because their sign was on a neighbor's fence. Since the neighbor's fence looked OK, and since I had a series of bad experiences (no shows or gold plated quotes) with fencing guys referenced to me by friends and acquaintances, I decided to ask my neighbor about their experience. When they told me that Summit South did fine work, I looked them up on Angie's List and saw the good rating here. I called, and a rep came out at the arranged time and quoted me a price that was in the ballpark of what I expected to pay. Summit was very flexible in working with me on installing when I could be at home. I was very concerned about staying on my property line as the previous fence installer (Brand X) strayed from my property line and would not return to correct their error. One of my neighbors was not enthusiastic about the fence, so I needed to be sure that everything was done professionally. The work was all completed in one, very long day. This was quicker than expected, but no complaints. The work was done by an independent contractor, however the foreman told me that he had been working for Summit for several years. He offered a couple minor suggestions that improved the appearance of what I'd asked for without charging any extra. His crew was courteous and cleaned up my yard and my neighbor's yards before leaving. After a couple of months I did have trouble with one of the gates shifting a bit (during this unbelievably dry weather we're having), but I called Summit and they sent someone to fix it within 48 hours. I was impressed and will absolutely use these guys for my mother-in-law's yard in a couple of months.

Everything went so well. They were very fast and took care of my neighbors new gate. We had them back to spray paint the fence and that worked out very well. Good company! We also received an thank you letter from them.
Description of Work: I called to make an appointment to get a bid for a new fence. Michael came out to measure and he listened to my request for what we wanted. He made good suggestions for our fence. Other companies did not listen to what we wanted and would tell me,I didn't need the posts that close together. Michael emailed the bid. We accepted their bid and set the date. They came on time and worked all day to almost complete the whole job. Their crew was a great group of guys led by " Double A" and his brother, Jose. They finished in a day and a half! Cleaned up very well and we have a beautiful fence!

The day after I submitted an email request for an estimate through Angie's List, Mike called. He came out the next afternoon and presented an estimate 3 days later. Once the three families involved agreed upon the contract and paid their deposit, the job was scheduled. The crew arrived Friday morning at 9:30 and left at dark, completing the entire job in one day. Cleanup was outstanding, the fence looks beautiful and the crew and the salesman were all very friendly and professional. I still have the sign in my front yard and will recommend them to anyone who asks. I have dealt with many contractors and crews for home improvement projects, usually with problems. Summit Fence South made my life very easy.

I ordered my fence on January 27, 2011. I was told by my salesman that it would be 2 - 3 weeks and they would come out, set the posts and then 2 - 3 days after that our fence would be installed. It is now March 17, 2011 and I still don't have a fence. This has gone from a three week project to eight weeks. I have been calling Summit to ask about my fence and getting the run around. No one knows what's going on and I was told someone would be calling me to keep me updated during this process which never happened. I initially got my estimate for the fence back in September and was told in January that the price would be the same. Now I find out that they have an Angie's List coupon for 10% off and don't want to honor the discount for me even though I ordered and paid the deposit for my fence at the end of January. I have copied Ms. Scott on e-mails and have been told that she is not in town. I've had no response from her. Earlier this week I was told my fence would be installed Thursday or Friday of this week (March 17th or 18th) and someone would call me 48 hours in advance to confirm. Since no one has called me I can only assume it will not be installed this week either. What's one more week at this point?!? When we looked at fence companies, Summit was $500 to $700 higher than the competition. I liked my sales person, he gave me more information and we felt the product would be higher quality. We also considered their "A" rating with Angie's List and decided it was worth the extra money. We were dead wrong. I keep getting what appears to be the company line about "oh, we're concerned that your final product is perfect". Well guess what. I expected great customer service AND and quality product delivered on time. If you go with this company, realize that customer service is NOT a priority, add at least six to eight weeks to any time estimates they give you and don't count on any discounts offered on this site. I will update regarding the quality of the fence...IF it ever gets installed. 3/22/11 - Update. I spoke to Linda Scott from Summit Fence on Friday afternoon. She was very apologetic and seemed to understand that they did not communicate very well during this entire process. She gave me the additional Angie's List discount. The fence was finally installed Friday and it is lovely. They installed the wrong handle and lock and it was corrected by Monday. Because of Linda Scott, I will update my ratings for this company. I suggest if you use Summit Fence and have any issues that you contact her directly to get things taken care of.

We got an Angie?s discount from them. There were three men who worked very hard and they finally got it done. They also put a gate there. The reason why it was 63 feet was because we extended it to the side of our house. They did that as well. They did an excellent job and it looks very nice. It survived a hurricane. I recommend them to others and will use them again. They did a super job on the clean up too. They took everything away. At my husband?s request they did not put a door latch for the gate as he did not want anybody to know that it was a gate. The fence looks very nice and higher because of the board there. The three young men were very nice and pleasant. One of them could not speak English but the one in charge spoke English very well. They took only one break and a lunch but they were here from early morning till it was dark. We did some comparison and I think they were reasonable. The quality of their work was excellent. They came when they said they would.
Description of Work: I used Summit Fence South to install a new fence in 2009. They put a cedar fence which was 63 feet and they did an extra bottom board. They hired more wood than they normally would and they did not charge extra for the extra height board. They took down some of the trees that we were supposed to take down but could not. They spend a lot of time for removing those trees and they also had to take away a chain fence.

10-21-2010: Went to their website to schedule an installer to come out and appraise. They called the next day and set up an appointment for Monday, 10-25. MAJOR PROBLEM #1: Appraiser No Called, No Showed!!!!!! 10-26-2010. I called them and the operator could not find any record of the appointment, so I went back to the website and made an complaint with the cell number of the appraiser who contacted me and all the sudden they remembered. 10-27-2010. Appraiser came out, Materials/Packet very professional, however their business model requires that you pay half of the total amount before the work is done. MAJOR PROBLEM #2: You want 1/2 my $ but can't tell me when you are gonna do the work. W**!!!!! If I didn't have the assurance of other Angie's list reviews that showed that they did the work then I wouldn't have used this company. The company's excuse for this was BS. Talked with 3 different employees who went on about their "internal process" of scheduling, which in no way, shape, form or fashion was customer service friendly. 10-29-2010: Made 1/2 payment but they still couldn't give me a start date!!!!! Very Unsatisfied. They did say that they would call with that information as soon as it was determined. 11-3-2010: I called them to see if they had put me on the schedule yet. I was told that a surveyor was coming out soon but they still could not tell me exactly when (miraculously, he came out later that day). But even he couldn't tell me when they would start to work. CUSTOMER SERVICE POINT: If you have to have several companies come out and mark the property utilities, cable, etc...tell your customers that, forget the interal process BS, tell your customers that you don't know exactly when they are coming but will keep your customer informed so that you aren't waiting for weeks to find out about a service that they have halfway paid for already!!!!!!! THEY NEVER CALLED, THEY NEVER GAVE THE IMPRESSION THAT THEY WERE CONCERNED. At this point, I totally hate their customer service. 11-4-2010: Finally the appraiser called and scheduled the work for Monday 11-8. Great finally got a service date!!!!MAJOR PROBLEM #3:They didn't show up Moday????????They came Tuesday 11-9-2010 and started/completed the work. The project Foreman was nice and very professional and spoke fluent English. All the other workers didn't...........Felix Navidad!!!! Again, the workmanship was outstanding, the customer service pathetic!!!!!!!!
Description of Work: After checking with/getting estimates from 3 vendors here on A List, I hired them to Replace sections of my fence in the Backyard that the homeowners association was complaining about. They were contracted to remove and discard the old fencing, replacing it with a new, sturdy fence. Once they got here, it went pretty quick, it took less than 5 hours, start to finish, to do the work. They were fast and the work was excellent, however their customer service is stuck somewhere in the 1980s, terrible!!!!!!

They were pretty honest. They did a pretty good job on building the gate. Installation was fairly good. The price was fair. On the negative side, they were not very good at the detailed work. They did the main job good but the little details they did not do well. The keypad was installed a little off. They mounted the eyes too low. Overall, I would recommend them to install an automatic gate.

Armando Espinosa came to measure and work up the bid. He couldn't have been nicer or more professional. Excellent workers, clean and very professional.
Description of Work: Summit Fence South added puppybars to an existing black iron gate and replaced part of my backyard wood fence. Did a great job. On time estimate, came when they said they would and I was very happy with the outcome.

The final product was installed correctly and to our specifications, and the final price was equal to the estimate. The gate and fence look great. The only issue we had was with scheduling. As the homeowner, I wanted to be home when the fence and gate were installed so that I could make sure that everything was done correctly. I work outside the home and travel frequently, so I had to have advance notice of days when I need to be home. It was extremely difficult to schedule installation dates with Summit. We had to schedule separate dates for the wooden fence and the driveway gate, and each instance was very frustrating. In the end, I left a message for Summit asking them not to install our gate on the date they specified, as I had to leave town for a family emergency. We came home 4 days later at midnight to find a driveway gate blocking our way to our house. We were able to enter the front of the house and find the gate code and keys on the back porch. Our yard crew was unable to mow our back yard while we were gone because the gate was blocking their path. It was a small inconvenience, but it left us feeling that the company did not listen to us as the customer.

Response from Summit Fence South
I apologize that there was so much difficulty in scheduling the installation of your fence and gate and that we installed your driveway gate while you were out of town. I noticed that you stated that the job was completed Sunday, July 11 and that you left a message for us to postpone the install. If your call came after 5 on Friday, the installation crews who work Saturday would not have gotten the message as our office is closed on the weekends. That may not have been the case but one scenario. However, Summit Fence South, Inc. strives to provide exceptional customer service and regret that we let you down. Often we have difficulty with scheduling due to weather constraints. Every customer is installed as their work orders are received which means that if weather pushes one job back it pushes all jobs back. The delay between the installation of the wooden fence and the drive gate is due to the manufacturing of the iron gate. To produce the correct driveway gate, the wooden part has to be installed first and left to "set" for a day or two then measured at the top, middle and bottom to make sure that the gate fits, hangs and flows properly on the operator. This will cause some delay but the finished product fits exactly as it should. Again, I apologize that scheduling was an issue for you and your family but I am pleased that the fence and gate look great. I hope that you will consider, that despite the glitches, we provided you with a beautiful product and hopefully the above explanation soothes your dissatisfaction. We would like to work with you again or any of your neighbors or friends. Linda Scott CFO/Vice President
