Where do I begin, we called several fence companies and all seemed to be in line with pricing and the difference was the sales guy seemed to be knowledgably and was customer friendly. After this is when it all went south with Summit Fence South as the name implies. We got a job start time which was about 4 weeks after we paid the half down deposit and for whatever reason did not start on that date and had to follow up with them to find out where we were at with starting as I was leaving the country the week after. Well the answer given was it was a scheduling problem, not a big deal but they wanted to start the next week. Of course I was out of town and did not know when I would get them back out I allowed them to start without me there, big mistake. I had my family call me to tell me that the gate was swinging the wrong way and actually stuck out into the driveway at its full extension. After call the salesman he told me well we can fix it but it will cost you and you signed the contract with it like this. Well yes I will give him that but at the end of the day that is what I thought I was paying the experts to do and tell me what was the best solution for my home? In the end I was already at $6500 with this job and settled for the plan they laid out. The next thing was they used 4' fencing on the North end of my house that connected to my neighbors fence which was 5'?? Again I called the salesman and his answer was well it was in the contract a 4' fence, and again I thought to myself man I wish I would not have assumed these guys were looking after my best interest and aesthetic appeal of my home! As we are all are we are busy and we pay what we think are the best in the business to do what they do best, never assume they are the best in the business. Then there were no spear toppers like on the south side of the fence in which I paid to have spears put on. So again I called the salesman and again you did not call for spears on the north side of the fence in the contract. Well again why would you have half of your fence with spears and half not?? He was right it was not in the contract but again we assume you are going to make something as expensive as this look correct and not thrown together. Had I been asked "don't you want the north and south side of the fences to look the same?" my answer would have been YES, and especially for $300 on a $6500 job. So now I have a 6' gate and fence on the east end of my home connecting to a 5' foot neighboring fence, and a 4' fence put onto my other neighbors 5' fence and to top it off some of the fence has spears some doesn't. Then I was so kindly greeted by phone and email that I need to pay the other half of the fence as they were complete as far as they concerned, have you be it I am still on the other side of the world and have not seen the finished product. So instead of waiting 1 week for me to return they went ahead and ran my credit card without my authorization and maxed it while I was out of town using that credit card for business! So now I have to use another credit card for business and am stuck with the over limit fees for something that should have never been done, what a violation of trust! To give them some credit here after I got them to refund this charge they said they would not charge me any interest on the balance, geez thanks! The salesman did come and finally walk the job and my concerns were heard and was assured he would take care of it. I asked is that we get the fence looking somewhat uniform, I could live with the gate and was willing to split the cost of whatever needed to be done as I did sign the original contract. I was then sent a quote for a redo of the fence there was no splitting cost just pay for the original and we will build you another fence it you want to pay full price again. So needless to say I have a very expensive awkward looking fence that they have washed there hands of and keep telling me "you have a years warranty"! Yea I am sure I am going to get great service out of that. There electrical guy that they had recommended me call wanted $450 to install the electrical as they don't do that type of work. The whole run would have been maybe 15' seems a bit steep for a moonlighting electrician. My whole problem with this is they were not willing to work with you once the job was done, which seems to run rampant in the contracting business.... let me get the job done, my check, and adios.

Response from Summit Fence South
At Summit Fence South, Inc. we provide each customer with a detailed contract and drawing of the fence before we begin. The contract serves two purposes. It protects the customer in case we do not fulfill any aspects outlined and it protects us to insure that we install exactly what the customer wants. When reading through the review above the customer clearly states that we built EXACTLY as he contracted us to build it per his contract. After it was built he decided he didn't like the look. We tried to work with him by offering to change it but we could not give it to him for free. The total footage he wanted us to change was over half the contracted amount. He only wanted to pay $1000 to have the fence fixed which was well below our costs. Service is very important to us however, we can not stay in business by buckling under to customer threats if we don't do what he wanted. We are very sorry that he is unhappy with his choices. We did comply fully with our contract with him and we did try to work with him offering to change it at our cost. He refused and followed through on his threat to "destroy" us on the internet. Our hope is that anyone interested in a fence will want a company that takes the time to fully outline what will be done, with what products, with a contract that obligates all parties. We do make mistakes but we will make every effort to correct any mistakes our company, salesmen and installers make. This review was not a surprise as our office was told exactly what would be written if we did not fix this customers problem at his price point. I hope any potential customers will give an opportunity to show them exactly how much we take pride in every job we do.

The salesperson, Michael, arrived on time, made excellent recommendations, and provided a cost estimate the next day. Price was not the cheapest but was competitive. Project was scheduled two weeks out but was delayed into the third week due to rain. Michael kept us advised of rescheduling and project began as scheduled with estimate of four days for completion. The fencing crew was fast and efficient. They cleaned up after finishing each day and completed as scheduled. The fence is exactly as ordered and looks great. I highly recommend this company.

Great fence, very responsive, very happy with the service. Only hangup (and why punctuality score gets a C) is they didn't measure properly when they first came out and had to make new gates, which set us back a few days. Also took a few weeks to get them out after we signed the contract, but its understandable when their fence crews are busy and they told us up front it would be at least a couple weeks.

After sending an email request, I had someone call me within a minute. I was at work and didn't expect to have a response that soon, so I wasn't able to call back until later. Between that time I received 3 more calls from them so I had high hopes they really wanted my business. Someone named Mike called me and said he would be in the area the next day and could go. I called him back at the number he provided, the person on the other end just answered Hello so I wasn't sure if I had the right person. I told him what I needed and he said he would go out there. I know he went bc when I came home our gate was locked. I waited 2 days to receive the quote by email. When I hadn't received it I called Mike, he again answered with a Hello. He said he would email it that day which was a Thursday. I had to call the office on Monday because I still hadn't received the email. He called me back and said he sent it and to check my spam email (which I already had done). I sent him an email and in return he sent the quote. I had a question about a statement in the quote, he said he has pictures and would get with their electrician and let me know. I never heard from him again. A note to this company, if you are going to use a cell phone for your work, I would advise answer with at least your name so the person calling knows they got to the right person. Ultimately, I would think you should answer with your name and the company you work for as it's more professional than just a Hello. We will not be using their services for the lack of communication on their part.

This employee no longer works for us for all of the reasons brought to our attention though not because of his lack of follow up with this customer but for several occurrences like this. We appreciate your feed back and have used your comments to continue to develop the best training possible for our sales force. We are very sorry that we were unable to correct this problem before we earned your F rating but agree that in this circumstance the rating was warranted.

Service rep handling initial on-site consultation was courteous and professional. The installation was completed earlier than scheduled and done so within one 3-hour visit. The fence looks great, and they were able to install it in very tight space within neighbor's chain-link fence without significantly disrupting/removing several large banana trees on my side of the property. They also removed a stump that was in the way with no problem. Only (relatively minor) complaint is that the fence height was lower than the existing adjoining fence along the back of the yard (by ~1 foot), despite my having communicated wanting them to be the same height.

Phillip was out within a day or two of calling Summit. Measured, explained materials used and why, and the construction of the fence. The 311 call before you dig guy showed within a few days after paying the deposit (1/2 up front, other 1/2 upon completion). Due to rain, there was a slight delay after they had dismantled the old fence, but it was only for the one evening. They were bright and early the next morning and the whole thing was completed by early-mid afternoon. Yard (front and back) and driveway were left just as if they had never been there :). Great company, great people, will definitely use again and will recommend to friends :D.

The work was preformed in a professional manner and in approximately the time that they estimated (one full day + part of the next morning). The quality of the work appears to be very good with no issues thus far. We obtained quotes from several companies and they were comparable. We opted to go with Summit Fence South because they were very knowledgable and explained, in detail, the work they were going to perform and he stressed that they don't cut corners.

300 ft. of old fencing was demolished, removed and replaced along with three gates. Fence line is shared with three neighbors who each wanted something a bit different. Summit South was completely understanding and separated the quote so that all parties new exactly what was being proposed and the related cost. Some special installation issues around existing trellises and pool equipment enclosures were accomplished with ease. The overall installation went much faster than anticipated. The entire job was completed in two days. The only negative in the experience was trash and debris left in the yard at the end of the first day. This was due to the fact that the trucks assigned to the first day were too small to handle all of the demolished fencing and work site trash. The excess could have been piled in a less obvious spot than the middle of our front yard but this was only a problem for one night. Overall these guys were fast and efficient. I'd use them again without reservation.

Our company tries to respond to every request that comes into our office. Each lead is assigned to a sales person to call and schedule an appointment and logged in to a master spreadsheet to track for advertising, neighborhoods serviced, products requested and other pertinent data. I have looked through all calls received this year and did not find a [removed member name] contact information. I can not explain how we failed on this but I apologize to [removed member name] that he was not contacted. We did not purposely ignore his call. With any business occassionally something will fall through the cracks and this was ours error.

Called for estimate. Sales rep Phillip came out the next day (Friday, March 15). He measured and gave me some information about how the fence is constructed and what materials they use. He was very friendly and professional. I promptly received a quote. It might have even been the next day, but certainly by Monday. The quote was very straight forward. The price wasn't much different than the other quotes I got which is why I gave them a "C" for price. They were a little less than one company and a little more than another. I used my Angie's List discount so if I didn't have that they probably would have been the most expensive. But I still would have chosen them because everything was handled so professionally. Any questions I had were answered promptly. I was told it would take 10 days to get the material from the time I signed the contract (approx March 28th). The fence was installed on a April 26th. It's a beautiful fence. The workers arrived around 10:30am and the fence was finished around 7:00pm. There was a problem with the gate on the chain link fence. I called and they fixed it the next day. I would absolutely use them again and recommend them highly.

Mike Espinosa called us to schedule a time for him to come out and walk the property to see what needed to be done. He was able to come out a couple of days later, where he met us and our neighbor. He described to us in detail how they would build the fence, and he even educated us on the fact that they only use Western Red Cedar pickets, because they are less prone to warping and bending than White Cedar from China. He also said that they use three rails instead of two to keep the middle of the pickets from bowing out. At the bottom, they use a 2"x6" rot board with the edge chamfered so that rain water from the pickets drains off instead of collection on top of the board. For the gates, they use galvanized steel frames for rigidity and 4"x6" posts set in concrete for stability. He spent time with both us and our neighbor, because we each had additional work we wanted him to quote. Afterwards, he took his measurements for his estimators, and then came back and presented each of us with a packet of information that included: - His business card - An company profile page about Summit Fence South, Inc. - Color pictures showing an example of the type of fence and gate they would build for us - A page describing the higher quality materials they use and why - A diagram graphically illustrating the fence as it will be built - A page on under ground insurance that they provide in the event that they accidentally hit buried objects in the yard We received the quote two (2) business days later, and despite being told we would have to work out the shared payment between ourselves and our neighbors, Mike went ahead and broke out our share of the fence on our quote and put our neighbors' share on theirs. We were actually waiting to hear back from some other contractors to get quotes, but they never responded to us or our neighbors, and we were able to do some comparisons on price by talking to friends and coworkers. Mike impressed us all with his professionalism, and since their cost was well within our expectations, we decided to go ahead and authorize them to start. Summit Fence South requires 50% down and 50% due upon completion, so we both sent payments and scheduled the work. As it turns out, it took us longer to get both downpayments sent than for them to schedule our work. They arrived at approximately 3:00P in the afternoon and immediately set about breaking down the old fence. Mike arrived as well to make sure his crew foreman, Shorty, knew exactly what to do. Shorty and his crew were very fast and very efficient. They had the back yard fence completed and the yard cleaned up by 6:30P. They needed to return to install the gate, because they needed to give the concrete around the posts time to cure. They also needed to do some additional fabrication work for the "doggy window". The following week, we were sent example pictures of the wire grid to be used in the "doggy window". I initially had some concerns, because it looked a little flimsy. I talked to John Davila about the frame to make sure that the window was at the appropriate height for our dog, and he took me through all the dimensions for the frame so I could be certain that our dog would be able to look through it without having to stoop or rear up. That's just the kind of guy I am. He even sent me pictures of the wire that would be used on the hole. As it turns out, it wasn't wire, but actual 4"x4" cattle fencing. They welded a 12"x12" section of the fencing to the gate frame, and with the members being about 1/8" in diameter, our dog would be able to stick her nose through, but there was no way she was going through it. Mike originally told us that the gate would be installed Tuesday or Wednesday the following week, but due to the heavy rains early in the week, they were not able to install it until Friday. Nature -- it happens. When we got home that night, we found the new gates installed. They work beautifully. They are light. They swing easily. The locking hardware is very nice. And the window is the perfect height for our dog. Please note that the above cost is our share of the fence plus our gate. The total cost for the 70' fence only was ~$1,500 after a discount for being an Angie's List customer. I would not hesitate recommending Summit Fence South to anyone.
Description of Work: Our back yard fence got blown down during Hurricane Ike, but I was able to patch it up. During the windstorms earlier this year (2013), the fence blew down for good due to many of the posts rotting fully through the damage incurred during Ike. Since this fence is separating our property from our neighbor's to the rear, we needed to be able to split the cost with them. We asked for the following: - Remove and haul off the remainder of the old fence from corner to corner - Replace with the same style fence but adding a rot board at the bottom (70') - Remove and haul off the asymmetrical double gate into the back yard - Replace with a sturdy symmetrical double gate that has a good, reliable closure latch (8' width) - Include a 12"x12" viewing window in one gate for our dog to be able to see what's going on out on the street

Two of my neighbors and I used Summit Fence South to replace the fences between us. The fence is beautiful, and I am very pleased with the work that was done. My only complaint is that scheduling took much longer than expected. Perhaps this was due to the complexity of our project (3 yards were involved), but it was three weeks from the time we made our down payments until the job was started. Ultimately, I am very pleased with my beautiful new fence and would recommend Summit Fence South.

I was not pleased with the process as they were not prompt and also made excuses for their high prices.
Description of Work: We asked for a quote to have our fence replaced and I played phone tag with the sales rep. for two days and then he finally called back three days later. The quote which took a week to put together was the highest price of three we received and did not include all the components we wanted. ******UPDATE 6/3/13********************** I used Whatley's Asphalt Paving in Alvin to give me a driveway. BTW, I highly recommend them... Mr. Whatley commented several times during the 2 day process what a fine black vinyl fence we had. He liked the sturdiness of it and he loved the look, especially for my neighborhood. I told Mr. Whatley that I had found Phillip at Summit Fence through Angie's List. I hope the two can connect and do business together because the ethics line up! Way to go guys! It's BEYOND GREAT to know that some companies can still be trusted. Thanks Angie's List for hooking us up! :) We found this company on Angies list....yes, the reviews do help! We chose Summit based on the good reviews and a 10% discount for new accounts. Philip Strohbehn came to see us. He was well-dress and well-prepared. He knew his stuff and was able to help us configure a fence that would work for our conditions. We thought we wanted a wrought-iron fence but Philip recommended a black vinyl-coated 8' fence. Not to mention that it was 1/2 the price, it fit the aesthetics of the neighborhood better and provides the same protection. Philip gave us professionally done high quality brochures that highlight the various services; he walked the property and measured, allowing for 3 gates, two driveways and ditch-access. They have a very nice website that helped us decide that Philip was right and we proceeded. Philip told us that our fence would be custom-made and would take 4 - 6 weeks for delivery. We also got a special discount if we ordered before the end of the year. How fun is that! To me, it took forever to get my fence, but that's mostly because I have four dogs that I was tired of walking on a leash to potty. Towards the end of the wait I called Philip a couple of times to check status of my order and see if we were on schedule. He was prompt to respond, even if only to leave me a message, telling me that he would check on my order and let me know when it was ready. We had one issue with a part that was not delivered with the rest so it caused a 48-hour delay. Finally they grand day arrinved when my fence was finally ready. Philip finally called to schedule installation. They were on time, well-prepared and ready to work. It took a day for the posts to set so it was a two day process. Not one glitch. I love my new fence. We plan on getting electical run so that we can have an automatic opener for the driveway. Philip will surely help us navigate that too. Great job Summit Fence!

Showed up on time for estimates - as well as the actual install date. Very professional and pretty good pricing as well. Gave an Angies list discount. We did find a few nails left behind - but we were very happy with the sales and the service workers. Thank you for a great job - look forward to getting the rental house estimate as well.
Description of Work: Extended & replaced side yard to back yard fencing - added a 4' cross fence section for playground for kids.

Very well done job with good quality fence. Cleanup was very poor and could have been harmful to my dog I had 49 feet on the side and 68 feet on the back to redo. It was done in one day and they managed to get me an earlier date for install which I appreciated very much, and the weather was iffy with the rain storms through the area.
Description of Work: Needeed a fence and fast because of a very threatening neighbor and his dogs. this company seemed to understand my dilemna and came out in a timely manner. I got two etimates but went with this company because they used a 2 x 12 as the bottom header on the fence with 5' slats. I wante to make sure these big dogs could never get to my pet. They finished it all in one day, plus My neighbor across the street wanted a new gate and they did that too. The only negative remark is that they did not do a very good job of cleaning up. they left alot of things laying around the yard that could have been potentially harmful to my dog, and some debris from ,y neighbors yar ended up in mine. I filled a bucket with leftover stuff. Otherwise, they were very nice to deal with. I would use them again.

Summit fence was responsive from the first call. I liked working with them and would recommend them to others. They did a great job cleaning up their work area and removing the prior fence.
Description of Work: Contacted Summit Fence South based on reviews from Angie's List. Asked them to remove a wrought iron fence installed by Western Fence Co that had already rusted after only four years. Summit Fence recommended a 25 year warranty fence from Ameristar. Mike showed up soon after my initial request. I thought the bid for 108' of wrought iron fencing and gate was reasonable. His team arrived as planned after they had someone mark the yard for gas/electrical/cable lines. They worked hard for two days to do the install. The resulting fence looks great and with any luck will last longer than the last fence. On the day of the install, I spoke with Mike and told him I had a last minute project to replace a gate between my carport and patio. Rather than complaining or putting the work off to another day, Mike asked for some quick measurements and had his team add this to their work. I think this extra bit of fence cost $350. My kids are excited that the new gate is so much easier to open or does not just blow open with the wind.

Pros: 1) They showed up on time for the estimate and they were able to give me the estimate the next day. 2) They did really good work. 3) When they fence was being installed, they found a pipe but was able to move the post to avoid hitting the pipe. 4) They stayed past dark to finish the job but they showed up late though. 5) The format of their estimate was nice and detailed. Cons: 1) I was really unpleased because they took my deposit but did not start work for over a month after taking it - it was all due to failure to document properly and communicate amongst their co-workers. I.E., Mike did not put on my account that I wanted a curved fence so their team was at a lost as to what I wanted. 2) I would have to call and leave messages on Mike's office phone and cellphone and I did not get a response so I had to contact the main office. Then he would finally contact me. 3) On the day that they were supposed to come, they did not show up within the promised time frame; I had to change my plans to accomodate them. 4) They did not start work until 4:30 p.m. and had to work until late in the evening. 5) They decided to show up at my house only after I contacted the main office and threatened to get my deposit back. 6) The person on the phone even told me that they had a lot of larger projects that they had to tend to first. She did not seem to care that I had waited over a month for my project to begin. 7) This company has poor communication skills and their response time is very poor. 8) They lacked professionalism. I always had to initiate the call; even then, it was difficult to get in contact with them. 9) Because they were poor at documenting, every time I called, I had to repeat to them the specifications of my project. Overall, this company did great work, but because my project was relatively small, they made larger projects their priority. I felt like they pushed my project to the back burner.
