The response to my initial request for service was slower than I expected.. However, the HVAC technician was very professional, explained the state of the furnace, and provided a thorough explanation of the reason why it needs to be replaced at some point down the road. I was very impressed with his skill, knowledge, and patience.

The professionals at Republic Heating and Air did a fantastic job throughout the diagnosis, selection, Installation, and wrap-up process. When the upstairs A/C failed, we called Republic Air and they responded promptly. David did a thorough check of the system and quickly identified the problem, which was a failed evaporator coil in my 16 year old unit. He clearly presented my options which ranged from a very reasonably priced repair to complete replacement of the unit. He helped us make the decision to replace the upstairs unit and save the parts from the unit to be replaced and use them to keep the downstream unit running for several more years. He clearly explained what units were available in several price ranges. We chose a high efficiency A/C with a gas furnace and variable speed blower. David explained that we would get a good tax break because of the new installation, and even found a HIGHER efficiency unit on sale for the same price. Because of the clear explanation of our choices, and without the high pressure sales that we had seen from other A/C companies, we felt very good about our choice of new units to install. The installation scheduling and process exceeded our expectations for ease and convenience. The installation crew was very careful to protect our home while removing and installing the new equipment. I am a Mechanical Engineer, and I know quality work when I see it. I was extremely pleased with the quality and attention to detail of the installation. All components were installed carefully and correctly. The machine worked exactly right the first time. It was very impressive to see. The finished product was, by far, the best home heating / cooling installation I have ever seen, which is a testament to the installation crew and the expertise of the A/C technician. In addition, the Republic Air crew made sure that the "little things" were taken care of, like making sure that our floors and carpet were clean, that all trash was removed, and that we were very comfortable with the new unit before they left. They proudly went over the features of the new unit, oriented me to the preventive maintenance that I could perform, explained how the system was programmed to operate, and in particular how we could control the equipment via the thermostat or through our phones. This was customer service that was, in our opinion, above and beyond what we have experienced from other A/C firms. Bottom line is, Republic Air installed a top quality system that fit our needs for an extremely competitive price. We felt extremely good about the process, the installation crew, and the result of the work. Now we will sit back, relax, and enjoy our comfortable (temperature wise) top floor knowing that we have a quality product that will save energy and even give us a tax break. It is a good feeling ! Would we recommend Republic Air to our friends? You Bet ! We already have.

Technician/Business partner Bryne had to remove a gas line to get access to the motor. He handled it all very well, even went as far as to make sure the central water heater was back up and running afterwards as well. Very professional. Loved working with him Would definitely use them again. Was amazed at how quickly they were able to take care of things.

David is great. He is very informative about what needs to be done. Explains things well and I felt well treated-- which is not always the case when people come to do repairs. Regarding the thermostat change- he went through the programming steps but then went ahead and programmed the thermostat based on my schedule. As to the duct work, he made sure to test out that the air flow was improved before he left, cleaned up after himself, and even made a point of video-ing on his phone a small leak in my attic that was part of my water heater, which I was able to then get repaired before it became a big problem. He goes above and beyond! I would definitely recommend him to others.
Description of Work: David changed out a defective thermostat on the first trip, then I asked for an estimate to replace some duct work which he did a couple weeks later.

Our family's home's three HVAC Zone's 12 year old Natural Gas Heating Systems were checked for winter preventive maintenance. During the preventive maintenance, Bryne / Republic Heating and Air quickly identified that our family's home's three HVAC Zone's 12 year old Natural Gas Heating System's vent fan run capacitors were failing and far out of tolerance. As I'm familiar with electronics, Bryne showed me the metered readings of each of the three zone's failing capacitors as well as showed me the marked ratings for each capacitor as well as the listed / marked tolerance codes for each of the three capacitors. Lo and behold, Bryne was very much correct in the failing conditions of each capacitor -- in fact the capacitors were so far out of tolerance, it's surprising the heating vent fans were still working. But, 12 years is quite a long time for them to have not been replaced. So, it was definitely time to replace them. Bryne replaced the capacitors in a timely manner during the same visit and reported that everything else with our three heating zones appeared to be working properly. Additionally, Bryne wrote up three separate and detailed receipts (including make, model, and serial number) for each of the three HVAC Heating Systems that winter maintenance had been performed on (during the same visit) as well as detailed descriptions of the work that had been completed along with the specifications of the capacitor replacements (required / rated capacitance vs. measured), etc. Our family has used Republic Heating and Air in the past and we will continue to do so in the future so, not much more can be said about such a seamless maintenance and repair experience other than the maintenance and repairs were completed with the professionalism and courtesy that always comes to be expected when interacting with Republic Heating and Air. Customer service and satisfaction still appears to be Republic Heating and Air's motivation / goal and they met the mark once again! Thanks again for the great service Republic Heating and Air!

David and Bryne / Republic Heating and Air expertly identified the defects in our Main HVAC Zones that prevented proper Heating and Cooling on our Heat Pump System. Also, since Republic Heating and Air are service providers for our Home Warranty Plan, the labor fees for the repairs were predominantly paid for by the Home Warranty Plan Provider (minus a $60 Trade Service Fee which was paid directly to Republic Heating and Air) and the replacement parts were covered under the HVAC Equipment Manufacture's Warranty. We are truly amazed at the level of customer support Republic Heating and Air provides to their customers -- Republic Heating and Air literally had to be reimbursed for parts / labor through three (3) different entities (Customer Paid Trade Service Fee per the Home Warranty Plan, Home Warranty Plan Labor Reimbursement for the Service Provider, and Republic Heating and Air also still needed to swap out the defective parts directly with HVAC equipment's manufacture to receive the replacement parts under the manufacturer's warranty). Anyway, not much more can be said about such a seamless and pleasant repair experience (or at least as pleasant as a repair experience can be) other than the repairs were expertly performed in a timely manner with the professionalism and courtesy that always comes to be expected with their interactions -- customer service and satisfaction appears to be Republic Heating and Air's motivation / goal and they met the mark once again! Thanks again for the great service Republic Heating and Air!

Our family was introduced to Republic Heating and Air by our family's new home builder (who scheduled / directly paid Republic Heating and Air) to correct unresolved Heating and Cooling issues that the previous HVAC subcontractor that was used during construction that was still unable to get the HVAC Heating and Cooling Systems working properly in the new house's 3 HVAC Zones for 2+ years. Fortunately, between December 2013 and February 2014, David and Bryne came to our home on seven different service call appointments and worked tirelessly to ensure that our family's heat was properly installed in our home and worked several days well past 7PM and one night past 9PM and another night past 10PM as they realized that our home's heating system was installed incorrectly be the original building subcontractor who installed our three HVAC Zones / Systems. Also, since HVAC heating had never worked properly (for two winter seasons) David and Bryne wanted to ensure that we had some form of heat during the winter's unusually atypical cold winter. Just to let you know, they certainly proved their knowledge, skill, and professionalism to us and we (as well as other family members) are now using Republic Heating and Air's Spring and Fall Inspection and Maintenance Program to take care of our HVAC Systems. We can't thank Republic Heating and Air enough for their assistance on getting our family's HVAC System to operate correctly -- it's certainly been a challenging issue for all of us to get it corrected -- finally! Once again, thank you, Republic Heating and Air, for the great work!
Description of Work: Some of the repairs that were made by Republic Heating and Air between December 2013 and February 2014 during seven different service call appointments (but are not necessarily limited to) include: 1. Replaced defective TXV (Thermal Expansion Valve) in the upper attic at our First Floor Main Area's Furnace via thermal cutting and thermal welding. 2. Repositioned Changeover Valves at Outdoor Unit Locations to new system locations for all three Condenser Unit's Heat Pumps which required welding cuts, welding in new copper piping, and re-welding of the Changeover Valves to the correct locations for Heat Pump operations. Also, this required recapturing the R-410A Refrigerant for each Condenser Unit prior to welding work, Vacuuming Each Condenser System's refrigerant lines prior to refilling refrigerant, and Refilling Refrigerant into each Condenser Unit to proper pressure levels). 3. Pulled In / Replaced Thermostat Cables. Insufficient Six Wire Thermostat Cables were replaced with required Eight Wire Thermostat Cables in all three HVAC Zones which was required to allow for Dual Stage Cooling and Three Stage Heating which was not possible with the previously existing Six Wire Thermostat Cables. 4. Rewired all three HVAC Zone Indoor Units (Thermostats and Furnaces). Connected all three HVAC Zone Furnace's Heat Strips to allow for 2nd and 3rd Stage Heating (Heat Auxiliary and Heat Emergency Modes). Also, reprogrammed all three HVAC Zone Thermostats to allow for these heating modes. 5. Rewired all three HVAC Zone Outdoor Units (Outdoor Condensers and Matching Attic Furnaces) to allow for proper dual stage cooling and three stage heating. 6. Re-strapped physical jumper switches on main boards of all three HVAC Zone Outdoor Units to allow for Dehumidification Mode when HVAC Cooling System is used. 7. Programmed all three HVAC Zone Thermostats to allow for the above identified functions to work properly. 8. Replaced defective Upstairs HVAC Zone System Cooling Drain Line P-Trap to correct "gulping" sound in upstairs sink drain when HVAC System was in operation. 9. Fully evacuated Upstairs HVAC Zone System refrigerant, fully vacuumed refrigerant line, and refilled with new refrigerant to correct rattling sound in a HVAC refrigerant line above the Theater Room in the attic adjacent to that zone's furnace.

My downstairs AC started blowing not-so-cold air, so I called my warranty company and they sent Bryan from Republic heating and air. My appointment was scheduled on my convenient time. I explained the issue and I thought it was probably low on Freon. Bryan came out and called to get my approval before he proceeded with any work. What I was most impressed with was how Bryan was about the problem - without trying to up-sell or fix unnecessary problems and without any rush he educated me about probable problems and finding. Other than adding extra Freon he also cleaned surrounding widow so unit can breathe more air. Fast, great communication and most importantly very HONEST and that is very hard to find now a days (based on my two previous experience).

The story isn't finished now and won't be finished until hot weather gets here and the AC is used all the time. My experience is get at least 2 estimates on AC work, and don't jump to quick conclusions regarding AC leaks.
Description of Work: The gas heater in forced air unit would not heat. Tech found and replaced a non-functioning safety switch and rewired some messy wiring inside the heater area from previous service prior to my owning the house. The cost of this seemed high to me with the switch costing $168. He only charged for an hour of labor. He came close to lunch, diagnosed the problem, then went to lunch and to purchase a switch. That took 2 hours. Then he diagnosed a poorly functioning AC (a second unit in the house) as a severe leak in the cooling coil. He recommended installing a new coil at a cost of $1600 to $2400 depending on the price of the coil required. I decided to get another opinion at that point. I asked him to get me a quote and let me know the actual cost of the proposed new coil and installation. About six weeks later he called and asked me if he had ever given my a quote. I told him that he had not given me a quote, but that I would not need one at this time since I had another company out. The AC unit was only 2 lbs low on Freon so I decided to have the second guy put in the Freon and see how long it would last and how fast it would go down again. I checked the temperature drop on April 1, 2013 to see if the unit was cooling as it should and so far it is. It has a 12 degree temperature drop from the air duct entering the room to the return duct serving only that room. So, no severe freon leakage since 12/3/2012, a four month period. Perhaps a small leak if any.

Response from Republic Heating and Air
We admit dropping the ball on our response time to getting a proposal back on this call and we Apologize. Our secretary was out on vacation and we did not do nearly as good of a job as she does. As to our Diagnosis of the Aforementioned items, we stand behind it and know it to be correct. We always are honest with our findings, and never do anything shady. This is why I started this company. To do the right thing, and gain the trust of our customers and not have them worry about the same issues most other a/c company's have. Now getting to the basics of the call, a 12 degree split across the system is a bad thing! This tells me the refrigerant level has already Diminished to a dangerous level. The split should be over 16 degrees, and 18-20 is the norm. Not only does the refrigerant remove heat from the home, but it also acts as the coolant for the compressor. Any time you are running the system at a less than full status, you are overheating the compressor and are Actively reducing its life. Not to mention its not able to remove the proper amount of heat from the home. Just because the air feels cool coming out of the vent, that is no indication of a proper running system. When it gets warmer this system will run all the time, overheating the compressor, and will not be able to keep up. The next thing that will happen is the coil will freeze up and will be in the condition to cause possible water damage. When all is said and done the service call and freon filling from some company trying to make a quick buck instead of solving the problem, will be realized as a waste of money, and could have been used as an investment on a new coil which is what is needed at minimum. Now freon prices have sky rocketed due to EPA regulations, and now the best option is going to be to change out the coil and condenser, swapping over to the new refrigerant. Our only intention here is to take an accurate picture of what is really going on, tell the customer in an understandable way, let them know what the options are, and empower them to make their own decisions. Thank you for taking the time to read my comment.

Our upstairs a/c went out on a Friday afternoon and we contacted our home warranty group. They gave us a couple of options, and we checked Angie's List and found one of them, Republic. Contacted them and they came out on Saturday to check the problem. They gave estimate to our HOW, got it approved, ordered the part, and had it installed by Monday evening. David was very professional, courteous, and neat. He cleaned up after himself and respected our property. He actually acted like he cared that we would have no a/c upstairs (bedrooms) over the weekend (fortunately a cool front had blown in and it was fine)! With or without a HOW to pay for the repair, I'd hire them again! I paid considerably more out of pocket for a similar repair/replacement in another home two years ago.

Our air conditioning went out the weekend before we were leaving for a vacation. I scheduled an appointment for repair through our home warranty company. I have never used this company before, it was selected by the home warranty company. Because it was Sunday, I could only leave a message with the home warranty company, and they said I would get a call the next morning to schedule repair. Republic H & AC called me back about 1/2 hr later (on Sunday evening) to set up the repair. I scheduled it for the morning of the day after we returned from our trip. Unfortunately, they confused the date and came while we were away. I had to start over to try to get a new appointment after we returned. I decided to try a different company. After I had done that, the scheduler with Republic H & AC did call to apologize and tried to set up a different appointment. Everyone there seemed very polite and professional.
