Swimmingly. The repairman was friendly and took his time to do the job right. The lady at the office walked me through the process for programming the two new remotes we bought for the door. Nice people.
Description of Work: Replaced a broken spring on the garage door; ordered two new remotes for the door; saved me money by showing me how to program the remotes, rather than charging me for a service call and sending someone to do it.

I was given a price of $702.54 to install a two car garage door which seemed like a reasonable price. I was told a technician would have to come out first to give me a written estimate. If I accepted the estimate, I would have to pay one half of the total up front before the job was started and/or completed. I have certainly learned in my lifetime through trial and error, not to pay for a job until it has been completed to my satisfaction. Precision Door Company is a large enough company to not have to have monies paid up front to purchase supplies. I will not use this company for this reason.

Response from Precision Garage Door of Houston
Thank you for phoning our office for pricing on a new door. I apologize that you were dissatisfied with our policy of asking for a down payment. We as a Company have learned and refined our policies and procedures as well through trial and error, just as you have learned in your lifetime through trial and error. We put our down payment policy in place due to orders being cancelled after we had already paid for the doors. In most cases we were left holding doors that were of no interest to other customers so we just took the loss. We have found that the down payment of half has worked well for our paying customers as well as for our Company. We never ask that a customer pay the balance until the job is complete and the customer is completely satisfied. My hope is that sometime in the future you will allow us the opportunity to serve your garage door needs.

After suggesting all we needed was a simple inexpensive repair, we were sold a new opener for $480. Our garage door would not open Friday morning. I called a couple places from Angies list and Precision was able to get a repairman out the fastest and with the lowest service call fee. When I called for the repair, Precision got the make and model of my opener. I told them I wanted it fixed in one day. I didn't want to have to reschedule for when the parts came in. I made certain to ask if the repairman would have the parts needed to repair the opener and if he could bring a replacement unit in case he could not fix it. The woman at Precision said they would bring the parts and would most likely be able to fix it but would bring a repalacement unit of the same brand just in case. The repairman arrived the next day and quickly diagnosed the problem as a bad circuit board. He said it would take a few days to get a new one but for only $100 more he could install a replacement opener. He recommended against that because he said it was a bad brand and would like have a short life span. He also said he did not have one with him and would have to reschedule to install it. For only another $150 more I could get a much better, quieter opener from a maker I never heard of. When all was said and done, I spent $480 for a repair that was sup[posed to cost $150. The new opener and remote he pushed hard to sell me both had the Precision name and logo. That said, the new opener is much more quiet and the repairman programmed our car's built-in openers. Although I feel like he pulled a bait and switch, he was professional and courtious.

He did a wonderful job. He installed the spring and even explained to us how the spring works to make the garage door practically weightless. He examined all the mechanism to make sure it was still working well (service includes a 25-point safety check). This company doesn't charge extra on weekends! He was prompt, professional and personable. We had him inspect the other garage door, and he showed us how the door had become heavy compared to the door that had the new spring. We called him back out a couple of months later to replace that spring on the other door. I highly recommend Precision Overhead!

I called Precision Door for a garage door that would not stay shut. It would just bounce back up after hitting the ground. I now understand it is a simple adjustment. As soon as the technician arrived, before even looking at the problem I had reported, he advised me that the springs need to be replaced, that they were almost gone adn there was danger of the door falling on me. He advised not to use the door until I had it replaced. He also said the rollers will need to be changed. My two-garage door has 3 springs (usually there are 2). The estimate the technician gave for all of this work was for $738!!! And then he told me I was in danger if I did not get it replaced immediately. And of course, when I asked about the problem I had called about, he told me about the minor adjustment with a screwdriver to fix the downward travel distance - and thankfully, he adjusted it. I thanked him for the estimate and he left. I then called another company after researching on Angie's List and they sent a technician out in a couple hours! The technician looked at the springs and said they seem to be just fine - no need to replace for at least another few years. He did recommend changing the rollers ($116 after the Angie's discount). If the springs were replaced, they would have charged $300 or so - including the replacing of the rollers!!! Precision Door is a scam and they seem to find gullible customers and strong-arm them into buying their services with threats of danger. STAY AWAY FROM PRECISION DOOR - or you will pay an arm and a leg for service you most likely do not need.
Description of Work: Adjusted the downward travel distance by turning the screw on the side of the garage door motor. And gave an estimate for replacements of the springs (which I had not requested).

Response from Precision Garage Door of Houston
Precision Overhead Door is a well trused, respected, long standing company. Our Technicians are trained through the IDA and strive to help our customers resolve their garage door problems. We are not the cheapest or the most expensive company around. Our Technicians are aware of the problem at hand before arriving at a property, but are trained to do a 25 point inspection for everyone's security. I am sorry to hear that you feel as though we would potentially scam you as a customer. In no way would we position any Technician out in the field to do so, or put our company at jeopardy. I see that we went out for a problem, not only repaired but explained how to repair it, and then offered recommendations. Again, our Technicians are trained to inform customers of problems or future problems that can arise to help protect the safety of our customers. That being said, the reason the Technician would quote you for those repairs is to help educate and inform you of your garage door problems that may not be noticeable to one without garage door expertise. It would be unethical for us to go out and notice something is wrong and not say anything about it. You were never obligated or pressured to go with any recommendations and the Technician did secure the problem that was first at hand. In the end our company was aware of your concerns and even refunded the $39.95 service call, although your problem was fixed and no other charges were made. I hope you can recognize that in no way were we scamming you or trying to scam you and our company will maintain to strive to be the best for out customers.

Job had a few issues but everything was handled in a fair manner. They want to please the customer and we will use them again.
Description of Work: Garage door coupler was broke. Technician came out said he could fix the coupler but said that we really needed new springs and rollers which would make the door work better and less noise. We said ok so he did a door overhaul and replace the coupler. When he completed with the job I wanted to see how it worked. The door had an issue staying down. So he told me it just needed adjusting. Well the next day we had the same issue where the door would go down then come straight back up.. A new technician was sent out and we were told that the adjustment was stripped and we really needed a new garage door opener. Well after spending $500 and was told at the time the opener was fine we were a little upset. We spoke with the owner and we agreed to put in a new opener at a reduced cost. We think they gave us a very fair deal on the garage door opener and were very pleased how everything turned out.

Spring broken on overhead garage door - called Precision - good customer service from the time they answered the call. Scheduled repair the next day. Technician called before showing up. Upon arrival, assessed the door, gave an estimate for repair. Suggested additional services to prevent future problems but no pressure to have these services performed. Completed all required work withing 30 minutes. Professional young man and most pleasant to deal with. Was very pleased, would highly recommend and will definitely use in the future as need arises.

This took place at a machine shop and we have a commerical garage door measuring 12x12 that was "stuck" halfway up. First tech (Tech 1) came out within the hour of service request (good), I lead him to inspect the garage door, he had to get someone on the phone, he was asked to look at the spring, but he couldn't get to an angle to inspect the spring b/c we have a 1500lb horizontal air compressor in the way. However he discovered he couldn't get the door down on his own so an addictional tech came out (Tech 2). At this point I had to go back to 2 cnc machines that had been running for 24hrs for over a week to meet our deadline; everything was fine until both machines suddenly stopped and both had alarms go off. Come to find out Tech 2 had turned off our air compressor without asking anyone in the shop-no permission was given for him to turn it off and there was no resonable explaination for him to turn it off (other than it being really loud). I called into their office and spoke to an understanding young lady and told her what happend and how this could cost us time and money. She understood but there was nothing she could do; I spoke to Tech 2 and he understood but non-empathetic and still slapped us for $125 bill for letting the garage down. There were no repairs or fixes; just to let the garage door down and he charged us $125. For actual repair/part replacement it was going to cost us $700; understandable for these types of garage doors. However there still was the unfortunate incident of Tech 2 disrupting our business w/o reasonable cause and no formal apology from him. Total cost $125 from Preceision Door Service, production hours lost, and bad taste left by Tech 2. ,
Description of Work: A 12x12 commercial garage door was "stuck" halfway open. Actual service was "Reset Cables as Needed" to manipulate the garage door down; cost $125. Problem stated by the Tech 2 and by work ticket were: Bottom weather seal worn, cables, rollers, springs, and unbalanced door. Cost of total repairs/replacements of necessary parts $700 (job was cacelled).

I thought the work was done in a professional manner and I am very satisfied with the results.
Description of Work: The garage door had a broken lift cable on one side. The company replaced both cables and cable drums , both springs and all the wheels that operate in the tracks on each side of door, replaced two bottom brackets, and lubrecated all the moving parts. The door is probably over 20 years old and works great now. The service man had to return the next day and change out the two springs as there was some mix up in the springs they had got the first day. There was no additional charge for changing the springs out and they stuck to the estimated repair cost.

I was very pleased with the whole experience. When I called to request an appointment, they were very professional, and offered me an appointment in the general timeframe i wanted, and provided a 2 hour window for the arrival of the service person. The service person arrived on time (actually within the first half hour of the window originally provided) quickly assessed the situation, explained clearly what was needed and why. He even went so far as to say that he was not the cheapest company in town - but they'd do the job right, and provide a lifetime guarantee on labor and parts. He got the job done quickly, and the garage door works BEAUTIFULLY - much better than it has the entire 8 years that we've opened this house, operating smoothly and QUIETLY (no more slamming down on the concrete floor when it closes...) The service person was friendly, professional, had the necessary parts with him, and got the job done in a timely fashion. He left a sticker on the inside of the door so we can remember who we used and who to call again next time - which we definitely will do. Very pleased, would recommend this company to my friends, and would definitely use these guys again. **Note: this was the 3rd company we tried, the first company came out tweaked one thing, said they needed more parts, and then never came back. The 2nd company never showed up. It was quite a relief to deal with a company who showed up on time, had the parts, and fixed the problem, all in one go!

Overall: WE COULD NOT BE HAPPIER. In the last year and a half, we had a lot of interference from the nearby businesses? security systems/Wi-Fi?s that would render our remote-openers - dysfunctional. Each time the businesses across the road would tweak their security or internet Wi-Fi systems, we had to rely on Precision Door services for help, and each time they would re-program our frequency and/or even replace our motor unit with the more sophisticated rolling frequency one - for a nominal charge. A few weeks ago Precision door found the new culprit to our problem: a $10.00 electric fan that is constantly working in our garage to move the hot air around it!!!! Can you believe this? A fiddly little, insignificant appliance was able to create such a large magnetic field that it kept messing the electronic signals up!!! So folks, if your garage door starts misbehaving ? call the Precision Door and you will meet the most knowledgeable person re: garage door systems, on the planet: Mr. Patrick Behrens, the Branch Manager in person. He will fix your problem - even if it is not caused by his equipment. If all the service businesses in Houston would have an ounce of Mr. Behren?s interest and enthusiasm to be helpful and efficient ? the BBB or Angie?s list - would probably not exist and definitely would NOT have a ?complaint? column at all. If you want good service but more importantly, if you want the best AFTER SALES service ? money cannot buy - look no more: Precision Overhead Door of Houston is your place!
Description of Work: We have had many things done over the period of roughly a year and a half since our overhead garage door system, gliders, motor were over 20 years old. We were very happy with all the work that was done. We called the Precision company for the first time sometimes in August 2011 when our garage door jumped out of the rails. They were VERY helpful, efficient and professional which is why we called them again few months later when our 20-year-old motor died and was replaced with the state of the art Lift Master.

After checking for a garage door service, I chose Precision as they had good reviews and more importantly they showed 24/7 service. I called at 8 am on a Sunday morning and was told they could not get anyone here until Monday. With all the locations they have in the Houston area and the fact they advertise 24/7, this just amazes me. I was able to find another company that is sending someone within 30 minutes. I think they need to change their website showing what their hours truly are or just remove 24/7.
