+ -1 moreThey refused to respond and have abandoned the solar panels. We refused to pay $3264 to remove and replace the Solar Panels since it was their neglect originally and never charged to have leaks patched prior to now. They lied and said it was a subcontractor that was separate from them. The "subcontractor" is merged for a long time with them.
Description of Work: Installation/ maintenance Dispute Lease Number: 06-0049119130-000-JCPAL December of 2014, signed a lease to have erected and maintained, a Solar Power System. We were assured roof was sound before they began. Work began February of 2015. Leaks ruined a section of our living room ceiling. A crew came out and “repaired” the damage, and “fixed” the leak. More rain. Same crew came out, resealed, declared that the leak was from compromised flashing around the chimney. Any leak around chimney would run down the masonry and not bridge a gap between the chimney and the sheetrock. Still we had chimney re-flashed and contracted professionals to repair the ceiling at my expense. Next, the roof under the North Bedroom leaked so badly that the Sheetrock came down. A different crew came out, found and fixed the leak, and repaired the ceiling. The workmanship of the repairs was abysmal. The traffic on the roof may have compromised the whole surface, leaks are springing up in areas not under the panels. I called to ask for removal so we could have a new roof installed. Quoted $3260. NRG stated they have no say, it is a subcontractor. Not true. They are both merged for quite awhile. Not in keeping with the contract, which states that removal/replacement would be quoted on a time and material basis after inspection. We had not paid in the past. The work was undertaken in inappropriately frigid conditions and shingles are brittle and prone to damage when walked on in cold condition, work should not have been done in winter. We have made repeated requests for removal and replacement at NRG's expense so that a new roof may be installed. We have all the emails from the company and our requests dating back to November 3, 2014.

+ -1 moreIt is a very long process, from initial contract to functioning panels was one year. The contract process was straightforward. The representative spent significant time explaining options and going over all my questions thoroughly. The big hold up is in the permitting processes. In NY there were more than 4 layers of bureaucracy to negotiate, which NRG took care of. They did admit that an error in the system prolonged the delay, maybe by 2 months. Once approved, the installation was conducted on my schedule. It required several teams - one to provided extra support to the roof and then the team to install the panels and hook up all the electrical equipment. The teams were highly professional, respected my property and cleanup the site. They had to work over 2 1/2 days. Before the system could go on line, there were 2 separate NYC inspections to be done, again arranged by NRG. A representative from NRG was present for both inspections. My only negative criticism for NRG is that the customer needs to be more proactive around finding out how the process is moving (or not) over the long period from start to finish.

+ -1 moreI was live on 5-5, right after they installed my solar panels. I had received bills showing me the energy production. Around August 16th-17th my services were cut off without notice, after speaking to them, I had found out they had to do this to several other users due to not having the correct paperwork on file. They called these interconnect documents, which are needed at the start and finish of the job. They are telling me what is holding this up is an electrical inspection from the city, which they actually did already have. They called back on 9/28 telling me they could get me connected that week, but I have received yet another call 10/8 and they had informed me that the town of Smithtown would have to come and inspect the installation of the solar panels before they are able to turn me back on. I loved the service when I was up and running, but the company seems to have grown faster than they can keep up, they can't seem to find things and have been very unorganized.
Description of Work: They were to set up solar panels on my roof and get me connected to working with the electrical company for services.

Description of Work: Installed 12 solar panels on southwest roof. From first contact to city inspection they did what they said they would do, when they said they would do it, in the way they said they would do it. This included financial screening, physical inspection of roof, electrical capacity and shade issues, screening past 12 months of power usage, obtaining all permits, same day installation which was carefully supervised and providing a technician to accompany city inspector. I was in awe. Note that I have an electric range/oven, dryer and no central AC. I absolutely recommend them; cleaned up after themselves, too.
