I have only interacted with them from the standpoint where I generally call them and make the appointments for my parents. I hadn’t been on-site when they came to do the repairs, but the repairs they have done have been good. We have been pleased with their service and we keep calling them back for more work. The last service was just under $300. They are very prompt. When I call them, they generally schedule the same day or the next day. They seem to do a fair assessment for the repair work and give me the estimates before the work is being done. The estimates have always been market value and what I would consider fair. The quality of their work seems to hold up. The work that they have done in the past has been quality work. They haven’t had to come out and redo anything. I read a lot of positive reviews about them online. I felt confident of getting good service and they will take care of it, which means a lot. I can’t think anything negative about them. I would definitely use their services in the future too.
Description of Work: My parents use Nick’s Plumbing & Sewer Service for their plumbing needs. My last interaction with them was on Monday when they came out to my mom’s house for some plumbing work. They repaired a faucet and a shower valve. They have replaced hot water heaters and done several other things.

I think I'll not use Nick's plumbing in the future and use Alan's Plumbing for any future needs. Nick's Plumbing's quote didn't quite make sense to me as I had pressure in the house in all but the washing machine and master shower. So my husband sought a second opinion form Alan's Plumbing of Missouri City. They suggested cleaning the mesh screens on the hoses to the washing machine and/or replacing with flexible hose that wouldn't kink. I did this myself later and resolved the low water pressure to the washing machine. Alan's Plumbing diagnosed the low water pressure to the shower by dismantling the on/off valves in the shower stall which indicated a need for a replacement shower valve. We went with this quote (less than 1/2 of Nick's quote. Alan's Plumbing later replaced the shower valve which meant creating a hole in the wall behind the shower but the placed a nice cover over it to conceal the hole and put new knobs on the hot and cold inlets inside the shower. I can't tell you how wonderful it is to have a good pressure and a decent spray in the shower.
Description of Work: I had wanted and needed an explanation of the low water pressure to the master shower and to the washing machine as well as faucets for the hot and cold to the washing machine. Chris at Nick's Plumbing turned water off to house and replaced the hot and cold inlet valves to the washing machine ($195.10). While they needed replacing, that did not resolve the low water pressure. Chris also replaced water heater emergency shutoff valve ($156.64) and that faucet had a buildup of ook in it. Note: used $10 Angie's List coupon so I paid over $340.00 for 3 faucets and still had low pressure. To resolve the low pressure, Chris of Nick's Plumbing also provided us with an estimate for replacing 27 ft. of horizontal pipe and 5 ft. vertical galvanized pipe in the attic with CPVC pipe since some rust and corrosion was evident when removing the above water heater emergency shutoff valve. The estimate was for $1172.80 which included a discount for "club rate".

It was a Big Deal and he checked all of the stuff on the Big Deal. He was very good. He was prompt in arriving. He was very polite and very knowledgeable. He knew what was wrong and was able to get the parts all in the same day. He explained things well and there were no high-pressure sales. I trusted him. He did a lot of work and I thought the price was fine. I would definitely use him again.
Description of Work: I used Nick's Plumbing & Sewer Service to do a number of minor repairs. He checked some valves on one of our tub and shower units. He replaced a cartridge and installed a garbage disposal. He also replaced the washing machine hose.

They were not able to come the day that I called, but said they would come on Saturday before noon and not charge me extra. The plumber explained everything that he would do and what to expect. He remained on site while I filled up the washing machine and sink and then emptied them to make sure that the line was clear and not backing up somewhere else. All was clear. He cleaned up everything and was very polite.

Everything went smoothly except he had trouble with a bolt so things took a bit longer than he had expected. When he finished the job, I asked him about the comode handle and he said that since it worked he didn't see the need to do anything with it. He was polite and professional and left everything clean.
Description of Work: I scheduled the service to replace the wax ring on my toilet. The young man came in and evaluated the job and gave me a quote. He also said that he would adjust the toilet handle or provide a new one for me.

We went with the easy fix. (We agreed to the price, so I can't complain too much, but for Pete's sake, $107 for them to crawl all of 18 inches into the crawl space to put a rubber coupler on, which took 15 minutes, seems way too steep. But like I said, I agreed to it--though having their trip charge hanging over you changes the decision calculus considerably.) After 15 minutes of sending another guy under the house, he got the coupler on and then told me that there was another crack that would cost $65 additional to fix. When I asked how much the parts cost was, he said the epoxy putty he would use to patch the crack was only $7 or $8. I said that $65 was kind of high to put some epoxy putty on, to which he responded, "Well I have to go get the stuff." (A plumbing supply store, U Plumb It, is literally 3 blocks away.) I decided to buy the putty and fix it myself, which is what I should have done in the first place. Here's the take away: These guys are freaking expensive. They do good work, but they're expensive. Do not use them for little handy-man jobs because they will charge you out the wazoo for annoying them with your little problems.
Description of Work: Lead p-trap joint on old tub drain line had separated. Requested bid on easy fix and correct fix. Easy fix was $107 for a rubber coupler and two band clamps. Correct fix was over $600 to replace that section of lead pipe. We chose the easy fix.

Plumbers were originally called for specific work on external faucets replacement (they were leaking) and limited external line assessment. They provided estimate for work, but also recommended replacement of line from main city pipe to the house (metal corroded pipe was in bad shape), and the installation of a whole house filter. Additionally after seeing the 25 year old water heater in garage, representatives proposed replacement of water heater to larger, higher efficiency gas water heater at cost, and the addition of an additional water filter on lead in line to water heater. We were overdue for a number of these repairs and we decided to get work done all that day. Workers stayed through evening completing the work and came back the next day to verify that all work was completed to our satisfaction. Overall, we spent more than we planned (but the total included all labor and materials/parts), but we were happy with the work, the timing, and the efficiency of the team. I would hire them again.
Description of Work: Replaced 2 external leaking faucets, replaced water line from main city pipe to the house, installed a new energy efficient gas water heater, and installed a whole house filter and a filter on the water line to the water heater.

The receptionist was rude...extremely rude. The company would not honor the "BIG DEAL" they advertised (and I purchased) here on Angie's List because my hot water heater was more than 3-years old. Instead of offering my money back or a service credit they said they would give me an inspection for the same price (what a crock!). I had to call Angie's List to get my money back (it was painless with them). They quoted me a price of $250 for a faucet installation, another company did the work for $105 LESS! They said that garbage disposal could not be repaired and a replacement would be about $280. They said that if they looked at it and did not replace it, there would be a $95 charge. The other company (who replaced the faucet) took a look at the garbage disposal, and at no additional charge, removed the penny that has fallen into the drain and caused it to stop working.
Description of Work: I called them about their "BIG DEAL" here on Angie's List as well as to have a kitchen faucet replaced & to have them give me an estimate on repairing/replacing the garbage disposal.

Response from Nick's Plumbing & Sewer Service
Let me first say thank you for your comments as it helps us with training our staff. We apologize for not being able to satisfy you. Our dispatch operator kindly explained the details of the "Big Deal" you purchased directly thru Angie's List. Water heaters older than 3 years do not qualify b/c of the hazards it will cause to your home plumbing system. i.e. clogging all faucets with sedement. After explaining the details at hand, our dispatcher then recommended you call Angie's List for a refund of your money you paid to them when purchasing the "Big Deal'. If you had purchased the special directly from us, we would have been more than happy to refund your money. Again we apologize for the inconvenience.

I was able to get an appointment the next business day. They called before coming. Chris, the plumber was very professional, figured out the difficulty quickly, and cleared the backup for us. We have not seen any sign of further problems. Chris also honored the coupon for their firm that I found on Angie's List.

The only service provided was to hook up a hose to the drain on the hot water heater and drain it. I could, and have done this myself. It takes about five minutes to hook up the hose, but the process will not work very well unless the water is turned off, the pressure relief valve is opened, and the tank is emptied. Then it should be re-filled and drained again. The quality of the drain water should be checked. It should be brown, rusty looking initially, then clear when the process is complete. Only an initial drain was done, the water was not turned off, the pressure relief valve was not opened, not were any of the hot water faucets opened, so the tank did not drain completely. The tank was not refilled and drained again to check for remaining sediment, etc. No actual "flush" was accomplished. No offer or attempt was made to perform any inspection of the "whole house" plumbing system. If I were doing this, I would provide a thorough drain and flush of the hot water system. Then I would have checked all exposed piping, faucets, drains, traps, toilets, etc. and advised the homeowner if any critical needs, code violations, etc. were found; and if any other suggested services were identified.
Description of Work: I signed up for the hot water heater flush and whole house plumbing inspection for $67.00. (An Angie's List "Big Deal") The young serviceman was pleasant and courteous, but failed to perform what I expected as a customer, and what, as his boss, I would have expected from him as my representative. Usually these "specials" provide an opportunity for the company to favorably impress the customer and sell other services if needed. This was not accomplished. I don't feel that I received $67.00 of service, and if I were the business owner, I would realize that an marketing opportunity had been blown.

We needed to replace our kitchen faucet that was leaking under our cabinet. We purchased a new fixture and called Nick's Plumbing. They provided a quote over the phone that my husband and I felt was reasonable and I made an appt. for the next day. He arrived well within the 4 hour window and went right to work. He removed the leaky faucet, installed the new one and cleaned up all the mess. The price was as quoted and he was very polite, professional and wore booties on his shoes to protect my floor. Great job, will definitely use them again!

Everything but the water heater was checked. He explained to me why they cannot check old water heaters (mine is 12 years old). He did say it was in good shape. When I called to make the appointment, I asked what it would cost to install a new shower head that I have, and was told that he would do that while he was here at no additional charge. They were very responsive! Offered to come out that day. They did come out the next afternoon. A very nice, professional, clean gentleman named Chris arrived on time, checked plumbing and installed the shower head. I also asked him about bathroom faucets for my dressing room and he showed me some pictures of some he had. I will definitely have them in the future and will have Nick's install the new faucet.

Very well. Nathan was on time, polite, professional, neat, and quite thorough. He caught some problems that could have led to huge damage and repaired them on the spot.
