Nick's was able to send someone out the same day I called. Albert arrived on time and after inspection, realized he had to order the part. He came back a few days later, only to realize that it was the wrong part - a mistake made by the supply house, not Albert. He asked them to overnight the correct part and he came back two days later to install the part.Albert was clean, professional and on time and very pleasant. He went out of his way to correct the problem with the part and the job done in a timely fashion. He even corrected a very minor problem with another toilet and did not charge for that.Even though the bill was higher than expected, I would definitely use Nick's plumbing again, expecially if all their employees are as courteous and professional as Albert
Description of Work: We have a toilet with a power assist component in the tank. The "bladder" on the power assist had ripped and the toilet was running continuously. Nick's was able to send someone out the same day I called. Albert came and arrived on time and checked out the problem. He needed to order the part. He arrived a few days later with the part only to discover that it was the wrong part - the plumbing supply's fault, not his. He asked them to overnight the correct part and he returned two days later and corrected the problem with the toilet.

I used the Angie's list coupon to have leak test done. They were prompt professional and pleasant. The did the work I contracted for. The test however revealed a leak which resulted in a substantial additional expense. I proceeded with additional tweeting and repairs, but when those resulted in additional high dollar estimates for repairs, I grew cautious. They offered financing for half the required work at very high interest rates. I was beginning to feel a bit pressured, so I stopped work and got two other bids, both within 3 days. When the technician learned of that, he disappeared and has never called back. That sent up some red flags. I selected another plumber.
Description of Work: Hydrostatic leak test, repair main drain cleanout.

Overall, a fairly major job but I thought the price ($700) was on the high side. In hindsight, I could have asked for some other bids to complete the work to know if the price Nick's charged was competitive or on the high side but my tenants were without the use of the kitchen so I swallowed hard and approved the work. The plumbers were very courteous, professional, arrived on time, and completed the job in a reasonable time. Front office staff was also very courteous and friendly. Overall, I had a very positive experience with Nick's but thought the price charged was on the high side.
Description of Work: I had a clogged kitchen sink drain in my rental house. Plumber from Nick's pointed out that the lead fitting connecting the clean-out to the drain line was deteriorating. He said he would not attempt to clean out the drain because it would destroy the fitting and recommending replacing the fitting. The fitting was in bad shape so I agreed to the work which involved chipping away at concrete and demolition of the back of the cabinet under the sink.

After fixing the kitchen sink he then proceeded with the work he had been called for originally. While previous plumbers we had called didn't know much about roof drains and didn't have any recommendations (or didn't follow-up or call back), Nick's knew just what to do. They noticed that the pipe fittings installed at the roof didn't match the rest of the drains, causing them to be inefficient and more susceptible to leaks. They exchanged those as well as repairing the drain that had previously been covered up. Then they tested the drains to make sure there weren't any blockages. We are very pleased with the work they did. Additionally, we decided to have a complete inspection done of the rest of the plumbing to avoid future issues. After this initial appointment, Nick (the owner) followed up with us to determine if we were happy with the work his employee had done and asked if he could come back to re-inspect the home (at no additional charge). The plumber who had previously come by apparently no longer worked with them and he wanted to be sure everything had been done properly. He was friendly and thorough, and seemed to really want to develop a long-term customer relationship. We were impressed with the follow-through and happy with the work.
Description of Work: We primarily scheduled to have our roof terrace drains inspected, cleaned, and have one reconnected that the previous owners had chosen to bypass rather than fix. After roof leaks, we had some concern with the way the drains were configured and wanted a consultation in conjunction with a new roof being installed. As "luck" would have it, our kitchen sink started leaking profusely just before the plumber was scheduled to arrive.

Overall, the initial experience went well. It wasn't until follow up's that it went all down hill. I asked him for a general estimate to replaces all pipes underneath the house, he said 15,000$. So of course I asked for him to write up a real estimate to take to our mortgage company, he implied that he would have it out to me the next day (Friday). I had my 1 year old daughter with me, we had been there for over 2 hours and I had to leave. I told them to lock the back door when they were done since I don't have access to the keys. Before they could finish one of the guys locked them out of the house, so Will called me to see if I could come open the house again. I couldn't and told him it would be open first thing the next morning. He apologized and said everything would be done the next day. He called to confirm he went over there BUT one of the guys locked Will's clipboard with all the information in the house. I again, don't have 24/7 access to the house so I called my Realtor and he couldn't get over there but eventually he called a friend of his who has a master key to come open the door. He got his clipboard and told me he would get the estimate/drawings to me ASAP. I called Saturday to check up and see where everything was (he knew we were coming close to the end of our option period and knew I needed everything very quickly, which he said was no problem), unfortunately he said something happened with a lady that works with the office and she has a password on her computer he didn't know so he couldn't do the work and talked about taking someone's mother to the hospital. Alrighty then ? This was already supposed to be done. He calls me Monday to get the paperwork to me (I'm waiting for drawings, estimates, everything that was wrong, what they found, etc.) No, he shows up (AT MY APARTMENT DOOR AFTER I TOLD HIM TO LEAVE IT DOWN STAIRS WITH MANAGEMENT, I AM A SMALL FEMALE WITH MY 1 YEAR OLD, when a GROWN man calls to say he is down the hall at apt 205 and will be there in a second (considering I didn't GIVE him my apartment number), KIND OF freaks you out) with 1 pencil sketch, 1 photo copy of pencil sketch, and a piece of paper saying what they would do to fix the plumbing, nothing that say what is wrong and why all of this needs to be done, etc, etc. Of course offering 2,000 off if I sign within the next 3 days. I'm not even closing on the house until May ! So I call my friend who is helping me to come over because Will is coming back to my front door again (since he was sitting in the garage of my apartment complex which isn't easy to get into when there is clear visitor parking in the front, but I needed papers saying what was wrong). This time Will acts much more professional, explains everything, and doesn't call me "chick-a-dee" this time. After paying 400+ dollars I would expect someone to act more professional ALL THE TIME, and not show up with little pencil sketches... He made me feel very uncomfortable and I don't plan to use this company ever again.
Description of Work: I called Nick's plumbing to come scope some pipes in a foreclosure house we were considering buying. They showed up in their time frame (although they said someone would call 15 min prior to their arrival, I didn't trust this so I drove over to the house any way to wait, good thing I did because no one called). They brought out their equipment to start the job. Although I wish someone would have told me previously I could bring a USB drive to record the scope (since I don't casually care one around). Will (the only one who spoke english) got on the roof while one of the workers got on his cell phone. He located the number of "systems" the house had, what went where and started getting to work. They run the water in the house (plugging up the drains with "balloons" and check the drains as it runs out. If water comes rushing out backing up the water in the house your pipes are fine, if no water comes out your pipes have rotted. In our case the pipes were no good. He also told me the pipes in the attic were in need of replacement since we had "cruddy" water.

Response from Nick's Plumbing & Sewer Service
On April 9th our technician went to the apartment complex under the direction of the member to drop off paper work. The technician was directed by the member to give the paper work to the apartment manager. The apartment manager refused to take possession of the paperwork and gave our technician her unit number and directions to the apartment to drop the paperwork off to her directly. Will at that time drops paperwork off to her and leaves to go to the visitor parking. While in visitor parking he proceeds to speak with another client on the phone before driving to his next call. The member calls him 3 times while on the other line for additional paperwork which in turn he brings to her due to the fact he was still in visitor parking. What you see and hear depends a good deal on where you are standing; it also depends on what sort of person you are. It was not our intention to create such an awkward situation. Please accept our sincerest apology for any misunderstandings.

In short, incompetent and expensive. I will not use again or recommend. See the description of services preformed for why I will not use Nick's Plumbing again.
Description of Work: The gas hot water heater in my garage apartment stopped working the day before the tenant was supposed to move in. I phoned Nick's plumbing and the guy came out in less than 30 min. He had a look and said the gas valve was broken and needed to be replaced. He showed me how it was broken, so i don't doubt that. He then quoted me a price which seemed high (according to my girlfriend's dad who was there and he is a general contractor with 30+ years of experience) He replaced the gas valve but the hot water heater still didn't work. He then spend about 30 min cleaning the burner which had become very rusty and then the heater started working. Less then a month after he replaced the valve, the hot water heater stopped working. So I asked him to take a look at it again, and guess what, a plastic valve was melted, and the bottom of the tank was rusted out. He suggested he could fix it but i decided i'd rather replace it which is what I should have done in the first place. He quoted me $1200 and to install a new hot water heater. I said i'd think about it and phoned Home Depot which said they could do it for less than $1000. I strongly suspect that the entire hot water heater should have been replaced to begin with (instead of just fixing the gas valve). This wasn't really suggested, despite the hot water heater's age and obviously poor condition. As a first time home owner, I feel like i was taken advantage of. But it gets worse. When Home Depot came to replace the hot water heater they said they couldn't because there wasn't 12 inches between the top of the heater and the roof (there about 3 inches). It was a code issue. I then phoned several other plumbers and they all said the same thing as the Home Depot guys. Nick's plumbing would have replaced the hot water heater despite it not being up to code. When I asked them about this, the guy said he didn't notice, which would have been very difficult.

I searched Angie's List to find the best plumbers in Houston. The search returned two I called for estimates. The first was Nick's and Chavez. Nick's plumbing was the first that could come to the House on the same day I called for an estimate. They were very professional and wanted to replace the entire main line from the meter to the house for $2,780, which did not cover the replacement of the concrete. They could schedule the appointment for the following day given I called them back in the early morning. Chavez Plumbing on the other hand could not come for an estimate the day I called but was able to come the next morning. The plumber came with an assistant and was able to give me an estimate to replace only the portion of the pipe that was broken and replace the concrete. I found this solution much more acceptable and did not understand the reason Nick's Plumbing suggested the entire pipe be replaced since only one section about 4 inches was broken. Chavez after completing the estimate returned to their shop to obtain a concrete saw and return to my house and completed the entire job in 3 hours as opposed to Nick's estimate of the job taking about a full day. Chavez left the site with the pipe fixed, concrete pored and saving me almost $2,000. This was completed approximately two weeks ago and no issue to date.
Description of Work: Main Water Line to the house broke, Nike's provided an estimate to replaced the pipe and repour the concrete to the same condition it was before the break.

It went much better than I expected. I was told they would be out between 10:00am-1:00pm. I received a call at 10:02 saying they would arrive in 15 minutes. After attempting to locate a clean out I was given the details on what it was going to cost to get the camera/locator on site and how much it would be if I did not have a clean out. Initial estimate was $1500. After difficulty getting the camera to feed down the vent, thanks mostly due to the odd piping job the house had, the sewer line was discovered running to the front of the house with no clean out. They had to dig a few feet to open up the pipe to see what was going on. They inspected the pipes under the house and reported back that it looked great. The problem was identified on the city potion of the pipes where it meets the sewer. They were able to get the mess off the root that was causing the problem and then gave me the information I would need to give to the city to get the rest of the work done. They did not try to push me to pay them to do it. Once they got it as clear as they could and had my homes sewer system operational again the final bill came one hundred under the initial quote. I would use them again and probably will in the near future when it is time to change my hot water heater.
Description of Work: Over the weekend I had water flood the back bathroom as the sewer line stopped up and I found out I had a bad seal on the toilet. They came out to see what was causing the problem and had to get the camera/locator out to find the pipe. I had no clean out so they installed that after digging about 4 feet down to uncover the pipe just off the front of the house. They also installed a toilet to replace the old unit I had.

On Monday I had Nick's Plumbing come out because the drain for my washing machine was overflowing on the rinse cycle and Drano MaxForce hadn't fixed the problem. Service rep came out and use a drill-attached snake, said he cleaned out some roots and mud, but after testing the drainage, still hadn't fixed the problem. He ran a hose down the pipe and encountered a blockage 15 ft from the washer. He speculated that the cast iron pipes under my foundation were rusted out, and gave an estimate to tunnel under the house and replace it for several thousands of dollars. This was the first time I had used Nick's, because they had mostly great reviews here in AngiesList. After pondering this, I called Sword Plumbing and asked them to send someone out with a camera cause I wanted to see this before spending the money and to get a second opinion. Doug showed up on time (actually a little early!), we discussed what the problem was, and he proposed (rather than the camera, which was going to be difficult since we can't locate any cleanouts) to send a REAL plumbers snake down the vent on the roof. 20 minutes later I had a properly draining pipe and NO evidence of rusted out pipes under the foundation (he ran the snake 65 feet!) Nick's representative allegedly encountered mud at 15 feet. Doug from Sword said the blockage appeared to be lint.....

A technician named Paul was nice, but could not address all of my issues. And he was a little sloppy with part of the job, wore the indoor protective booties outside to his van and back in several times, and got confused about the work. He was able to fix a minor toilet problem, a leaky faucet, and a bathtub drainage issue. But he broke another tub faucet fixture which he could not fix, thus making the problem even worse than before, and did not offer another option to repair it. I'm sure they have better technicians, but I would not give Nick's a second chance.
Description of Work: Nick's sent a technician to my house within two hours of my first call. I had a minor toilet problem, a leaky sink faucet, a bathtub drainage issue, a hot water pressure problem in two different areas, and an outdoor patio drainage issue. The technician could not fix one of the water pressure problems and broke the faucet in the process. And he had no solutions at all for the patio drainage.

Nick's was the low bidder and did an excellent job. The crew came in on time and did an excellent including setting up the inspection. The quality of the work was vastly superior to the plumber a general contractor used on another job. Nick's is on my emergency call list and will be short listed for future work.

I had bought replacement tub & shower fixtures as part of a bath remodeling project and needed to have them installed. The old ones worked fine, but were ugly. When my toilet stopped up I decided to go ahead and have the plumber do the shower replacement as well. He gave me a fixed price and replaced the 3-handled fixture, shower head, tub filler, overflow and drain. The plumber was prompt, professional and very tidy. He explained my options and the cost for each. Once he was through he said he would throw in the toilet unstopping for free. I was very pleased with the service and will definitely use them in the future.

I clogged my kitchen garbage disposal, which turned out to be me sending something too fibrous into the unit. I was unable to fix it myself (using drain opener). I found Nick's Plumbing here on Angie's List, and chose them because they are very close to my home. They were able to send someone immediately. The plumber arrived within half an hour, and was professional and considerate. Once I told him what I had done, he knew exactly where to look for the clog. In just a few minutes, he had cleared it. Upon testing for leaks, he found another problem -- the builder had put a gasket in incorrectly, which was causing the post-repair leakage. He fixed that, and Presto!, problem solved.

Albert from Nick's Plumbing came out and fixed a problem with our Noritz tankless hot water heater that had been plaguing us for several years. The service call was quick, on time and very professional. Albert located, explained and fixed the problem very quickly and effectively and now our water heater works better than ever. Nick's will be the plumber we call next time we have any plumbing issues.
Description of Work: Nick's plumber adjusted our Noritz tankless hot water heater so that we no longer get an error code 16 that was happening about once a day. The error would shut down the heater and require a reset at the control panel in the attic each time it happened. Albert from Nick's Plumbing located and fixed the problem and we no longer get the error message.

He was very punctual and went right to work. I showed him the kitchen sink (it's a double sink with separate p-traps and pipes that join at the wall) and explained that when I turned on the dishwasher I heard drip sounds in the cabinet under the sink. There was water inside the cabinet. He checked out the individual lines and determined that the regular sink p-trap was leaking and the connection rings were badly corroded and recommended that they be replaced. He checked the other sink line which has the original disposal (42 year old house) and the connections to the dishwasher. The p-trap and pipes although old were still in reasonably good condition and not leaking. He replaced the p-trap and the connection pipes with pvc ones. I also talked to him about other plumbing issues that I had with the house and we went over each one and he gave me ballpark estimates at the time for each of the issues. He looked at the main bathtub because there was no water coming out when you pulled on the knob. He took apart the knob and it's pieces. He used a wrench to turn the water connection and water began running into the tub. He said that the cartridge needed to be replaced. He said that he would check and see if he had a cartridge for the connection since it was 42 years old and he had one to fit it. Yea, no trip to Home Depot! He installed the new cartridge and checked the connections for hot and cold water and the water was flowing well into the tub. He checked out the shower connection and it was okay as well....but the water was not draining from the tub. He took apart the drain switch and saw some hair around the bottom part. He augered the bathtub drain line and suddenly the tub was draining. He provided written estimates to three other possible plumbing jobs for the near future. He was in and out in 1-1/2 hours. Great job!!
Description of Work: The technician replaced one of the kitchen sink p-traps and its piping connections to the wall and checked out the other sink's lines. He determined that the reason my bathtub had no water was the cartridge, replaced it, and checked the water lines into the tub and it's shower. He noticed that the water was not draining out of the bathtub so he checked the connections and augered the line to clear a blockage. He also provided estimates to other potential plumbing work that will need to have done in the near future.

I have been taken in the past by other companies but I can honestly say that Nick's does a great job! they stand by there work and respond to new and old problems immediately. I trust no other and use them exclusively for all my plumbing needs. They are the best!!
Description of Work: I contacted Nick's Plumbing in regard to an odor coming from the 1/2 bath comode. Since they had installed it originally I was concerned that perhaps there was a problem. Daniel came out and perused the situation and felt that perhaps a couple od unsealed areas, the side of the comode and the wall under the vanity where the ptrap comes through needed to be sealed. He assured me that if that didn't take care of the problem we could them remove and reinstall the comode. After that was done he offered to check my hot water heater. I, like most people, never have a reason to venture into the attic. He called me up to show me where the HWH had caught on fire at some point. He replaced the HWH and a corroded galvanized pipe.the pipe had pin holes with evidence of slow leaks.

Arrived on time and was quick to see the problem and how to fix it. Will be calling him back to replace our old steel pipes that have rusted soon! Highly recommended
Description of Work: Our guest bathtub had no pressure and would take 30 minutes to run a bath 3 inches deep. He came out flushed the line and replaced the cartridge in our faucet.
