+ -1 moreM&M had the crew show up and were done in a day. They were fast and professional, just like they were the first time. I was a little ticked that they left 13 bundles of shingles on my driveway for 2 weeks, and also took several sheets of plywood I had in my backyard for a personal project. The work was great and the quality is top-notch. They also gave me a great deal on Heat-Block radiant barrier, which was about 50% of the cost that other people quoted me.
Description of Work: We had a tree fall on our house during Hurricane Ike, damaging the new roof we put on in May 2008. It broke several joists and punched several holes in the roof, shattered a skylight and caused a lot more damage. M&M had put the new roof on the house, so the only logical choice was to have them repair the damage. I contacted them, and scheduled the repair, regardless of the status of my insurance claim. The house was patched up, but would incur a significant amount of additional water damage as we headed into the rainy season.

Description of Work: Hurricane Ike hit Saturday, September 13 2008. We sustained roof damage and a roof leak due to the hurricane. On Monday & Tuesday the 15th. and 16th. we called and emailed numerous roofing companies. Needless to say they were all swamped due to the hurricane. One has to remember about 90% of Houston was without power, some roofing companies did not have electricity either. On Thursday September 18, David Boyles from M&M called and came out to see the damage to our roof. Five days after the hurricane, that’s pretty good. David said their office had no power and they had a couple of people pulling emails from their website remotely from home so they could contact their customers. This could be the reason their voice mail was full, they couldn’t answer the phones due to no power. In fact their office was without power for about 3-4 days after the hurricane. After David looked at the roof we decided to wait until our insurance adjustor inspected the damage, he was due out on Monday the 22nd. The insurance adjustor showed up and decided we needed a new roof. We contacted David who sent a crew out the next day to tarp the roof until they could get the work done. On Saturday the 27th. David came out to have us choose the roof color and type and finalize the paperwork. David said he would get the supplies ordered and delivered the next week. We said we had a big party planned for Oct. 4th. (scheduled well before we heard of Hurricane Ike) and didn’t really want our driveway full of roofing supplies but it would be ok if we had to. David held off on the delivery until the day before the work was to start because of our party. Between the time the tarp was put on and the work was done the pulled loose twice due to the wind (it’s very windy where we are). David himself came by the next day and the same day I called and repaired the tarp. On Oct. 16th. the supplies were delivered. On Oct 17th. the crew was at the house at 8:30 in the morning and started. It took 2 days to do the roof with about 80% done in one day, we have a very large and steep roof. The crew was very nice and did great work, they cleaned up each day very well. The only problem was they ran out of ridge shingles and had to come back the next week to finish which took all of 30 minutes. David came back on Sunday Oct. 26 (yes Sunday) to inspect the final job and receive payment. Overall a very, very responsive company who did a great job as fast as they could get to us especially considering we had a hurricane tear through disrupting everyone’s life. One last note, there were numerous roofs damaged in the neighborhood, ours was the 1st. to be repaired!

Description of Work: After Hurricane Ike did it's damage, I am in need of estimates for my insurance company. It took a couple of days to get a response to my e-mail request for an estimate, but someone showed up promptly at the agreed upon time. The good news is that the roof damage was minimal. I was promised an estimate by e-mail and am still waiting on that. It has been over a week now. Times are bad right now because of the sheer volume of repairs and estimates, and I understand that. However, I am now ready to follow up to determine what went wrong.

+ 0 moreI got estimates from a couple of places and decided to go with M&M. They replaced the eaves around my entire house with HardiPlank and also painted it in my chosen color. Their representative, David, even told me that their prices were going up at the end of the month, so it would be wise for me to schedule the work before then, which I did, and saved about 15%. He measured the house and wrote up an estimate on the spot. He warned me that there would be a small abnormality in the overhang in one area due to the slightly unlevel line of the roof. The crew came out and had the entire house completed in three days. There was minimal debris left around the house after the work, i.e. they did a very good job of cleaning up after themselves. They did not damage any shrubs surrounding the exterior of the house. The subcontractor they hired to do the painting was very capable and professional. He painted not only the new eaves (soffit), but also the garage and front door (the front door was not part of the original agreement, he just did it as an 'extra'). Everything turned out very nice and I've been happy with it since it was completed in early May, 2008. They did replace an outlet box backwards in one spot, but it didn't hamper the functioning at all. They also failed to reattach a yard light, but I was able to do that easily. However, these were the only issues, and overall I was very happy with the arrangement and execution of the work.

+ -1 moreComplete lack of professionalism. I sent an e-mail after Ike to have the company contact me to review shingle, gutter, and ridge vent damage left by the storm. An individual named Bernard called me several days later and the cell call was dropped. I returned the call, left a message, and asked Bernard to call me back to schedule an appointment. I was able to share the level of service I needed from him. I assume, since the service required is mainly precautionary, that the cost of the project doesn't rate well against homes with more significant damage. If this is the case Bernard, at least call me and tell me you have priority projects which you'd like to complete first.
Description of Work: None, Bernard (contact at company) never returned phone calls after initial contact.

+ -1 moreWe discovered a serious leak during the middle of a rainstorm on a Sunday. We found M&M through Angie's List and emailed them. On Monday, they contacted us and made arrangements to come out later that day. Travis arrived and immediately climbed up on our steeply pitched roof. He secured a tarp over the leaking area, taking the care to caulk the nail heads to prevent additional leaks! When we began discussing the estimate, my husband asked that he provide us with an estimate to replace the whole roof, which was over 20 years old. Travis supplied the estimate within a couple of days. Work started the next week. The crew was professional, the work was done in a day and a half, and our yard was completely cleaned. One day, I got a call from Travis who said he was sending the crew back to sweep the yard again. He had driven by and had seen a couple of old shingles still there. Another day, I came home and found him sweeping the yard with a magnet, just to make sure there were no nails left. What a great company. They have outstanding people providing premium service and product. As an update, our roof weathered Hurricane Ike like a champ, even with all the downed pecan tree limbs that were hurled onto it.

+ 1 moreDavid Boyles called me back the same day I called to arrange for an estimate. He worked with me to find appropriate materials and work with the architectural review committee. When I described the attic ventilation problems, he put me in contact with another contractor to design the required ventilation system to fix the problems. David stayed in touch with me all the time and let me know when people would or would not show up. The only problem I had was with one sub who left messages at the house instead of following directions to call me directly to tell me about plans. The final clean-up was excellent. The work was completed as scheduled and done very quickly. The paint preparation was very good and completed with a minimum of interruption.
Description of Work: Replaced roof on house, installed new air hocks, installed gutter guards and painted exterior of house.

+ -1 moreDavid Boyles provided the estimate and then oversaw the entire job completion once M&M was hired. He and his crew did an outstanding job. They completed some extras like replacing and painting some new fascia board and wood under the eaves. They came when they said they would and cleaned up daily. No food bags or roofing debris was left behind ever. They respected my property. The gutters were contracted out to another company and the gutter installation was an additional charge of $1,863 which was not clearly communicated to me on the original estimate...this was a point of confusion that we worked out together and I was satisfied with the work. I hired them on account of the good reviews I read in Angie's List and I have to say they were very professional, reasonable and I would recommend them highly. I positively would hire them again.
Description of Work: I had old roof removed, water seal laid, new roof installed and new gutters installed with leaf guards. Some fascia wood was replaced and painted.

+ 0 moreThere were four crews involved in the work: one for the siding, one for painting, one for the sloping roof work and one for the flat roof. The first three crews were very professional and did great work. The flat roof crew was disorganized, messy and produced an aesthetically unsatisfactory product. The flat roof probably will provide adequate protection but it does not look good. The crew made a mess of the tie-ins to the brick wall and roof at one end that required re-work, and still is not very good-looking.
Description of Work: M&M replaced our entire roof on both house and detached garage, replaced old composition siding on the back of the house and two sides of the garage with Hardie plank siding, and replaced a flat roof on the breezeway connecting the house to the garage.

Someone who had cleaned my gutters cautioned that there was a "soft" part in my roof, but M&M said that because of the board placement, that it is not uncommon to have spots like that. He said that if there wasn't any leaking, that there was no reason to have any work done. I appreciated his honesty.

+ 3 moreMike came out and gave me a very reasonable quote. I felt confident that they would do an excellent job from reviews I had read on Angie's List. I am very satisfied with the end results. The exception is one side of my garage was not prepped very well and already has peeling paint. There were a few small problems that I also requested to be corrected that took a couple of reminders, but eventually were fixed. Overall, I am very satisfied with M & M and would recommend them.
Description of Work: Tore off 2 layers of shingles, original wood and also composition roof from house and garage. Put on new decking with radiant barrier, felt and new ELK roof with ridge vents. Power washed trim, brick house and garage. Replaced old ceiling sheetrock on front and back porches with plywood. Painted trim of house, caulked around windows, painted and put up new shutters, painted garage. Replaced old soffit screen and trim around it. Put up new column to support back porch. Removed and replaced ceiling sheetrock in kitchen, put up new insulation and painted.

I'm not climbing a ladder to the second story roof to check their work, but all seems well. Got a follow up call from the owner a week or two after just to make sure I was happy. I will definately put M&M on the short list for any further projects I have.
Description of Work: Installed flashing where the squirles and birds where getting in (5 places - I only knew of 1, M&M found the other 4) and fixed a leak around the furnace exhaust vent. 2 story house, with a steep roof.

+ -1 moreMonday morning the crew showed up to start work. The materials had been delivered on Saturday, and work began. They work was a little slow, but the crew was efficient and got the work done properly. They sectioned the roof to minimize rain exposure risk and stripped and replaced the shingles. Leak barrier and flashing were placed in all valleys, and additional venting was placed on the roof. They even built out a cricket for the largest valley area in the roof to prevent water and detritus from holding there in the future. When the job was finished, the crew cleaned up, checked the ground and grass for nails using a magnet, and even sprayed down my driveway and walkways to make sure that things were spic and span. They completed the work in 3 days and it looks great. We're not anticipating any leaks at all for a long time. They even replaced some of the wood trim around my chimney with hardiplank (which is what it should have been to start with). They also replaced a number of pieces of plywood on the roof that had rotted through (this was unexpected, and there likely are a number of other leaks in the house in inside walls or that had not been detected).
Description of Work: I had a leak in my garage, as well as a large leak in my living room that appeared after a heavy sustained downpour. The original roofing on the house was improperly done and barely lasted the 10yrs of the house. The design was poor and caused there to be several dead areas which caused water to pool and hold, leaking back into the house. There was actually a tree growing in one of these areas that was hidden from view at ground level. I called M&M to get the work done. We were planning to leaving on vacation on a Thursday, and I had them come to look at the roof 7 days prior to that. The representative took a look and recommended replacing the entire roof...which I agreed with. Fixing minor leaks would be like chasing ghosts around my roof and cause extensive damage in the meantime. They were able to schedule the job immediately and started the following Monday.

+ -1 moreA very professional young man came to the house to view the roof and the inside of house where I had a leak. He explained the problems and submitted an estimate by e-mail. I agreed to the estimate and a service date was scheduled. The roofer come on time and promptly got to work. I have not had a leak since the work was done. My previous roofer kept trying things, but I still had the leak. M & M solved the problem; however they would not guarantee the work because they were making an educated guess at the cause of the leak. There were not missing shingles, holes, etc. to pin it on.
Description of Work: They created a cover over A/C lines on the roof, sealed cracks on the flat surface covering.
