Lords Chimney

Arrived for original appt during quoted window. Inspected chimney, showed me where two holes were. Indicated could caulk to address issue but best fix was to have entire chimney resided (e.g. pull off existing siding, install waterproof sheeting, reside, paint). That was going to be very expensive so I decided to go with the caulking. Representative made appt for following week. Repairmen showed up at appointed time, presented card, were very professional. There are only two issues: 1) I have no way to tell if all of the caulking was done properly since I am not climbing on my roof (I am trusting the reputation of the company) 2) the company guaranteed the caulking for one year, but would not gurantee the leak was repaired which I thought was a bit odd. If you aren't sure the caulking will fix the leak, why suggest it as an appropriate fix? And if you are sure, why not gty it? I was not looking for a multi year gty, but I thought no gty at all was strange. I have rated the qualilty as N/A because I don't know how well the caulking on the chimney was done, and I don't know if it will ultimately fix the problem. Given the drought in Texas, it could be a long time before I can tell if the leak is fixed.

I purchased the "Big Deal" on Angies List for $85. I did not have to call them to make an appointment, they actually contacted me within a few days and scheduled a cleaning. They arrived on time, did a quick job, and cleaned up afterwards. Very impressed with the professionalism that was shown.

The estimate was free. They told me that because there was a leakage, they would not charge me the usual $99. I will be using their services, mainly because it turns out that I had used them in the past; they did not know that at that time, but they are going to cover the work under warranty, which is very nice.

The gentleman presented his card before trying to enter my home. He put shoe covers on before coming in and once I described my concern, he knew exactly what was wrong with it. However, before stating that fact he did a thorough inspection of the fireplace to make sure. Once he realized I could do with some lessons about fireplaces he couldn't tell me enough information. He really seemed pleased to share as much information as I felt I needed to maintain my fireplace.

These guys really know how to do a service experience. I had used Lord's once before to inspect my chimney and replace a missing chimney cap and was pleased with their work. When I called to inquire about a dryer vent cleaning the gentleman on the phone explained in exhaustive detail what they would do and how they would test the vent for certain pressure readings before and after cleaning it. When the first tech came out (Lee) he confirmed that the vent was indeed disconnected and we decided to go ahead and schedule their repair crew to fix the vent the following day. Since the laundry room is on the second floor the metal vent pipe runs between the first and second floor and the job required cutting through some sheet rock in one of the rooms on the first floor. Chris and Marquis were the repair technicians, they put down a drop cloth and moved some furniture before cutting into the section of sheet rock that would have to be removed. Upon opening up the sheet rock they encountered an extremely large amount of lint that had accumulated in the opening due to the dryer vent being disconnected and venting into the void between the floor joists, they cleaned out all of the lint and then fastened the metal vent pipe back together, secured it with metal tape and proper support to make sure it wouldn't disconnect again. Once they were done they cleaned out the dryer vent as initially planned and checked that they were getting the proper pressure at the termination point, cleaned up and were on their way. Lord's doesn't repair the sheet rock (they tell you that in advance) but I was already having some paint work done at the house and my painter fixed it so this wasn't an issue to me, they will refer you to service providers that will fix it as well. Over all this is a really well run service business, I believe I even received a call a few weeks after the job was done to see how my experience went, I would highly recommend them.

Arrived on time and cleaned out my dryer vent. I clean out the lint each time I use my dryer but I still had problems with the time it took to dry my items. After all was said and done, I didn't have any more problems. It took one cycle to dry my jeans and towels. Something that usually took 3!

They seemed to be straightforward and professional. I think there was nothing to complain about. They gave a lot of information and I guess they seemed to be honest.

The office staff very professional, called before he arrived to see if he could come out earlier, then called a couple of days later to check on the quality of services provided. Lee was the tech who came. He made excellent suggestions in lieu of doing expensive work on the chimney. He showed me things to look for that might cause future problems in the brick housing of the fireplace. He was very thorough in going over this with me as I had never used a chimney service before. Although he didn't do any repairs, he did perform a minor adjusment that would help avoid costly repairs.

. If I am in trouble he comes and gets me whatever time of the day it is. On March30th my engine on my little truck at 8.30 at night gave me trouble. I had to have people come and tow me off the road. I called Joe and he came and met me at the service station by then it was 9Oclock at night he drove me home and he then took the truck to the service station. He then had it worked on the next week as I had a blown engine. How many people at 9 Clock at night will come and get you? He is a good guy. I recommend him. I would use his service in the future.

I'm terrible with names, but I believe Chris was in charge, with Len helping out for the demo, and another gentleman assisting with the whole project, whose name I forget. All three were very professional, did a great job, cleaned up after the job, discussed anything they saw along the way with me, and answered any questions I had fully. After looking on the roof, Chris showed me some pictures of our chase top, and said that he estimates we would get 5-6 more years out of it, and we could extend that with some Rust-oleum. The chase top was fairy thick, minimally rusted, and appeared to have no rust-through or anything that should allow water to get in. We opted to keep it intact. The fireplace looks great, and Chris demonstrated how to properly light it, while Len discussed safe flame heights. The logs were cleaned and placed nicely, along with the sand and other gump that spreads out below the fire. Proper maintenance of the logs was explained. The fireplace was braced so that when our other contractor comes in to handle the sheet rock and tile work, he doesn't move the fireplace from it's current position. The damper clamp was attached and explained to me as well. All in all it went very smoothly, everyone was very professional and friendly, and I would definitely use them again and recommend them to others. As it was a month earlier, I almost forgot to include the bid portion of this. The gentleman who came out to bid on the work I was requesting was also very professional and friendly, explaining various options to me. I was very happy with the bid, which came in roughly where I expected it. I accepted the bid very late, and was still able to schedule work in just a few business days, one of the advantages of doing fireplace work while the summer is ramping up :)

Very courteous from the start. Showed up on time. In fact, a bit earlier than originally scheduled. Explained what needed to be done and why, then did it.

The sales man promised me everything but I didn’t get it all in writing. I called them because the fireplace floor was failing making the back wall fail also. I showed him the fireplace floor and he said “they will make it right.” He also told me that while they were out, ask the crew to affix the clean out door to the outside of the chimney. The crew showed up on time. There were 2 workers and a supervisor. They stayed till 8:30 or 9pm. The young man doing the fireplace rebuild was conscientious and wanted to do a good job. The supervisor told me that repairing the floor was not on the estimate of work. When I told him the salesman told me that they would affix the cleanout door to the chimney he said “he promised you a lot that he didn’t write on the statement of work.” I didn’t appreciate being called a liar. After they left we noticed that the flue did not close all the way because the way the back wall was rebuilt. The supervisor came back and I told him it closed before they came. He told me that it probably didn’t close before and they would charge me to fix it. After discussions and several days they ended up fixing the problem by cutting off the end of the flue handle. And didn’t charge me. The chimney mortar had many holes that were unfilled and they sent another worker out to fix that. That employee wanted me to be satisfied with the work and was a pleasure to work with. And I talked to the owner a few times and she was intensely interested in getting the job done right. So after 4 trips they got it right. But I didn’t like being called a liar. And having to argue with the supervisor and having to inspect every detail to make sure they did it right.

They were great. The guy came in and put booties on. He had a big mat and it was completely clean when he left. He sat down with me after everything had been cleaned up with the camera and reviewed everything that had been going on. He then wrote us a written estimate. They were reasonably priced. They are a certified chimney sweep. He showed me exactly where the problems were in my chimney. They haven't done the repair yet; they just did the cleaning. We would absolutely use them in the future.

This is an excellent company. They love angieslist customers! They also explained a lot about dryer vent operation and even told me that I dont need to have my vent cleaned as often as I'd been planning. I'm sure they do an excellent job on their other service, as well. In fact, I'll use them for my next air vent cleaning job.

They were punctual and polite, showed me how my fireplace worked, and turned on the pilot light. They also helped me understand what would be necessary if I wanted to replace the logs with a different set.

I have more than 30 years in the contracting business. They are pretty good.

I was extremely happy with both jobs performed by Lords. I was a little concerned about the ability to clean the dryer vent since it extends about 25 feet up through the walls and the attic to the outside vent. However this was no problem for Lords. They have equipment to measure the air flow through the vent and were able to confirm that it was clogged and were then able to clean it and run the test again to verify that it now had normal air flow. They inspected the chimney with a camera that can be fed up the entire length of the chimney and found that it was in good shape and did not after all need to be cleaned, saving me the additional $30 cleaning fee. They were very careful about not making a mess and cleaning up after themselves and could not have been more helpful in answering my many questions. I would definitely hire them again.

They came within three hours of my call. In addition to cleaning, they also gave extra information for what we could do, what was imminent, and what could be fixed down the line, which I found very helpful. The work turned out very well. They provided friendly, fast service. They rang the doorbell at exactly the time they said they were going to be there. The workers were very nice and pleasant.

They were careful to keep the living room clean while cleaning the fireplace. My fireplace has no damper and they told me they aren't made for my chimney any longer (my house is 33 years old). They offered alternate solutions in a range of prices. It was frustrating to find the parts aren't being made any longer, but that's certainly not Lords' fault. Their recommendation for the critters was simple: the chimney has a decorative brick arch over the flue; they recommended gluing screens to both sides of the arch to keep out critters. The man that came out was very nice, polite, and handled my frustration over the damper problem quite well. I need some more chimney work done (it turns out that I'm not very good with glue and screens) and I will be calling Lords again to have it done.

My experience with them was good. They came right away. It was not an emergency, but I needed it to be done. I couldn?t take time off to handle it. They came over that same night after I got home from work. It was awesome. They agreed to everything. The gentleman that came was very professional and nice. I have not had this kind of work done before, but I think the price was okay. I would recommend them.

Don't remember how much it cost, but they were quick at getting in and out of the house. Punctual. If you have gas logs with remote control, they will turn the control off to do their work. Request they turn the control back on before they leave, or you will have to do it yourself.

Lords offered the best price among several competitors for the basic cleaning and inspection. They were very friendly on the phone and in person. They uncovered some damaged flue mortar that made the chimney a fire hazard, but did not give us the hard sell to repair it. They roughed up a quote for repair before they left. Overall, I was very pleased with the experience --- we haven't had the chimney repaired, but we will before next winter, and Lords will definitely have a chance to bid that work again.
