Lords Chimney

I found Lord's on Angie's List and called to setup an appointment for installation of a chimney cap. After discussing the chimney and fireplace with the receptionist, she recommended an inspection to make sure the fireplace was operational and safe (I had not used it for 20 years). The day of the appointment Lee came and did the inspection and also determined that my chimney did not require a cap per manufacturer's requirements. I appreciated that he did not try to sell me something I did not need. He let me know that the fireplace was in good shape for it's age and would probably not need replacement for 8-10 years. We also discussed gas logs and he showed me options that would work in my fireplace if I want to have them installed at a later date. Lee was courteous and friendly and careful to keep the area around the fireplace clean.

Problem solved and then installed different unit and cleaned up after themselves. Very happy with their service.

Lee arrived on time and worked quickly. He allowed me to watch on screen, his examination of the wall and all it's joints, explaining as he went along. I was convinced of his concern when I saw the area pulled apart that might cause a fire. The house is old enough that the manufacturer of the chimney is no longer in business. Lee did attempt anyway, to reach a supplier who might have this make for replacement. It is not available, so it must be replaced completely. This is an expensive job for what is not really a necessity for our little house so we may decline. However the outside rim around the chimney on the roof is going to be replaced. He said it would require "custom" building from his measurements of it. This portion would be $450 and the examination of the chimney was $100. I paid half of the total up front.

Issue: Had condensation buildup in dryer, thought it was coming from a clog. Lord's used Magnahelic Pressure test device and a camera to check and couldn't find a problem with my vent in how it was blowing out the vent. Very professional. Blown away with how well they explained issues and talked through. Overall would use again, but would be very clear of my expectations going into it. Doubt anyone else can top their attention to detail while on site. One small issue, they do not come with ladders tall enough even though they knew it was a 3 story townhome. Could have put the extra effort out in front especially considering it was $100 for an "inspection" that did not include the roof.

They were at the house almost two hours and were very thorough. After I'd signed and paid, they even took time to shorten the air duct from the dryer to the vent hole so air would flow better. This was definitely over and above the scope of work. I'd bought a bird excluder to put over the outside vent but Lee suggested a better kind which would be screwed on but simply pressing the sides in would open it for access to clean out any lint - instead of unscrewing it every time. Because the house has Hardi siding it would be difficult to install and cost $250 so declined that for the time being. Lee and his associate TJ were very professional, always put booties over their shoes before coming in and gave me hints and tips for making sure the vents were kept clean and safe.

Our dryer vent had been plugged for several months. We had another company (can't remember who) come out to try to fix it but he didn't have a tall enough ladder (we have a 3 story townhome) to inspect the dryer vent where it exits from the house. Lords came out and on the first day couldn't complete the service because they didn't have a ladder that was tall enough. They then informed me that it would cost an additional $100 for them to bring out a tall enough ladder to look at the dryer vent exit. When they returned a couple days later (as planned) they were able to find the issue and remove the obstruction from the outside.

What a pleasant experience! The gentleman from Lord's Chimney was professional and courteous; even though my house is being remodeled (and is in a shambles), he still took the time to slip booties over his boots every time he entered the house. His inspection was very thorough; he even ?scoped? my chimney with a camera to make sure that all the seals were intact. I was very pleased with the work he did, and the professionalism of the representative that came out. I would recommend this company to anyone who needs work done on their chimneys?they may be more expensive than other companies, but they clearly know what they are doing. I feel safer now knowing that someone experienced and knowledgeable has given my fireplace and chimney a ?thumbs up?!

It was very helpful. This was an emergency call because I wanted my chimney done before the holidays. They usually only charge $100 to inspect and do a cleaning, but I didn't want to wait until next year. They came on time and were very punctual. The guy who came answered all of my questions and he was very knowledgeable and professional.

In short they did what they said they would, when they said they would- works for me! This company is comprised of experienced professionals only. How refreshing to have service people show up on time, with all the right diagnostic tools, and tell you exactly what the situation is. A gas logs involve open flame, a natural gas inflow, and electricity I want folks who know what they are doing- and have track record doing it right. I see the folks at Lord's akin to Master plumbers or Master electricians- in that they have earned their stripes. Alas our humidity is h****** gas log working parts- but here's a tip from Lord's for maximizing gas log life in Houston! start 'em up a least monthly even in summer.

Techs showed-up as promised & were very professional & knowledgeable. They found various problems, which they annotated on a report form. They also provided estimates of what repairs would cost if they performed the repair work. There was no hard-sell, etc.

Everything as promised. Joel & helper Chris worked clean & efficiently. They cleared area around fireplaces, laid drop cloths, etc. Good cleanup afterward.

They were prompt, clean and very professional. It was a little more than I expected, but they did a good job. They were responsive and punctual.

I have never met anyone as negative as the 2 guys who came here. First, the company that put in my fireplace went bankrupt over 20 years ago so there was no way they could use the current chimney and they couldn't find a chimney that would fit.. In addition, they would have to replace the ENTIRE fireplace to get a proper fit with the chimney. This would entail pulling the fireplace out of the wall, ruining the drywall, tile etc. They told me there was no way to fix the current chimney so that it would be safe. In addition they charged me $99.95 to just come here. No discount for Angie's list members. One other thing, the estimates they gave me for replacing the fireplace were very high. Their estimates for glass doors and putting in gas logs were also high. I have since found out that the chimney could be fixed and I had it done by another company that is not on Angie's list. This other company is very proactive and immediately told me that it was fixable. This guy is very honest and I want him on Angie's list.

Ceiling has shown no signs of leaking since. However, the mortar repair is sloppy and looks like it was just smeared over cracks on the exterior. Mortar color is very different from original and no effort at matching or tuckpointing was made. After the job, the crew washed out equipment next to my father's car parked in our driveway and splattered wet mortar on the bumper, fender and hood. The mortar dried before we noticed. Lord's office did call about a week later as a follow-up and when they heard about the mortar on the car issue they did apologize. One year later we received a call that they would be at our house the following week to inspect the chimney as scheduled. Since I hadn't scheduled anything, I called the office to inquire and was told it was part of the "warranty." I asked what the cost would be and was told about $120. When I clarified that I was going to be charged that every year to keep the "warranty" I refused. Apparently Lord's doesn't understand the difference between a "warranty" and "insurance." If you have to keep paying to hold a policy it is insurance and not a warranty.

I originally called Lords Chimney because of a leak behind our fireplace, and because we wanted our chimney cleaned. I called on Monday morning and set up an appointment for Friday morning. Two days before they arrived, I started hearing something in our chimney, and I assumed it was birds. My time slot was 9 to 11 a.m. on Friday and they called shortly after 9 to say they were on their way. Lee and Daniel inspected the chimney and discovered a live duck inside it. They worked for about an hour and a half to get it out, and it was very interesting to watch the different methods they tried. After they got the duck out, they put it in the yard to see if it would fly, but it was injured and ran behind a bush. Lee got the duck and said they would take it to a wildlife rehabilitation place. (Unfortunately I learned a few days later that the duck had died). Lee also told me about other problems with our chimney so we set up another appointment to get those issues fixed. I will report on that work separately. They did a great job and I was impressed with their patience and diligence in removing the duck.

My time slot was 9-11 a.m. When they hadn't arrived by 10:30, I called the office. The woman who answered apologized and said that she should have called me, but they were running late and would be here between 11 and noon. I wish they had called me because I postponed some things I needed to do in order to be home and wait for them. When they were still not here by noon, I called again. The woman checked with them and said that they were nearby, and would be here in about half an hour. They arrived at 12:30. Joel and Daniel worked on the chimney for about 3 hours and did a great job. I was pleased because on a previous visit I was told that they would probably have to remove the top of our chimney and then rebuild it, but Joel was able to do the work needed without removing it, which saved us $350.

He was on time. He was very professional and very friendly. He was always on task. He explained everything he was doing for us. He was out the day we wanted.

The company was not easy to work with in setting up an appointment. They do not offer Saturday nor early morning (prior to 9am) appointments without a hefty fee. This is inconvenient for people who work during the week. I also thought the bid fee was rather high, although they do credit it to the invoice if their services are used. Joel/Lynn were very professional when they did come, offering suggestions, recommendations, and tips. Unfortunately I had to take off work for not only their initial inspection but also when the actual work was done. They were over an 1 1/2 hours late on the actual work day and I had to call the office twice just to confirm the appt and schedule. I understand that some jobs can be delayed but their office should have kept me informed. Poor Joel was scrunched in the fireplace for the afternoon replacing the bricks with no complaining but they did a very good job, kept everything tidy, and cleaned up afterwards. With the exception of my initial dealings with their office staff, Joel and Lynn were a pleasure to work with.

The work was done very well and the guys who performed the work were very professional. In bidding on the job, they gave us two options. We ended up going with the higher bid just to get all aspects of the job done. We are happy with the result and would recommend these guys.

Prompt and courteous service, 2 technicians arrived at beginning of two-hour window and after looking at chimney declared that my chimney cap was rusty and did not have a border on it. They quoted me the price for a new one, which had to be manufactured to fit my chimney's dimensions. This price included their initial visit so I was not charged separately. About 3 days later the company called to schedule the installation. As it happened when I went to my workplace's garage to go home to be there when the technicians came, I had a dead battery. I called Lords Chimney dispatcher and kept her abreast of situation as it happened (jumping, going to store to get new battery) and she was a good source of moral support. I arrived home shortly before the technicians and they installed the new cap, just managing to finish it before a huge thunderstorm arrived-they got soaked anyway. A good experience overall, would use them again, and am waiting for the next downpour to see if this fixed the problem.

They were very professional and they were on time. They were very clean and they did a good job. However they are a little pricey. I would use them again in the future.

They did a really good job. I was really worried about them getting soot all over my carpet, and they kept it clean which really made me happy. I will hire them again for future chimney sweeping.
