King Safe and Lock

The Baldwin front door handle was misaligned and missing several screws. King Safe and Lock called the technician, the technician called me with a specific time, he arrived promptly, repaired the handle and replaced the missing screws. It works like it should.

We purchased a home and wanted to change the locks, and add one deadbolt to a garage side door. The tech was on time and worked efficiently. My problem with King is that they quoted me over the phone so I had an idea of what the cost SHOULD have been ahead of time (about $250). After the tech walked around and looked at all the locks, he quoted me over $900 for 3 re-keys and one new deadbolt. I called into their office and told them they needed to talk to their guy and find out why the price was up so high from the estimate. Turns out the guy was trying to sell me top-of-the-line, extra heavy duty, blah blah blah.... I straightened everything out and ended up paying a little more than the estimate. Make sure you ask them for an estimate ahead of time, and make sure they aren't trying to and quot;upselland quot; you.

On the 14th of March I called the police to report a criminal mischief at my home. A witness observed that a man with a blue service looking shirt and black pants came to my door and worked on my locks for 10 minutes, while a second man stood in the street with a two way radio as a lookout on March 13th. The next day, on the 14th I came home to burned and cut furniture. I called the police but did not learn that there was a witness to the lock being worked on until the 15th. I know that if a locksmith gets a blank keyway that is the same as the restricted keyway he can make a key and gain access to your home. My police report notes that my new expensive lock came from King- so they have people that can either purchase a blank from a friend or get your information and have a key made through someone working at this or other locations that the same owner has the city. The owner also owns other locations including Houston Safe and Lock. There is no way to protect yourself unless you can get a key with a lock direct from a factory or use a commercial system with an audit trail so you can look up the times a lock is accessed.

We locked all of our keys in the house and had just locked all the windows before locking the house. David was able to get to the house in less than an hour; thankfully it was a beautiful day. He was very nice and very professional. He explained everything he did along the way. Our lock wouldn't pick, frustrating and relieving at the same time, so he ended up making a key based on a lock from another door that uses the same key. David genuinely wanted to make sure he got us in our house, and we appreciated that.

We have purchased double deadbolt locksets from King Lock and Safe several times before, when we move into a new house, because they carry higher quality and quot;high endand quot; residential and/or commercial locksets which are much sturdier and better build quality that what you find at the big box stores. This lock had been binding and the wife snapped off one of the legs of the tailpiece on the interior side the double dead bolt. It looked like a replaceable part but I could not find a diagram on the internet to even determine the manufacturer of this dead bolt. My wife had a locksmith change them out recently when I was out of town on business so I didn't know the manufacturer and it wasn't on the lock. It looked like Schlage but the locksmith at King said it was a Baldwin. The locksmith at King Lock and Safe took the broken tailpiece off and tried one he had in his parts bin. Although it appeared similar the original tailpiece, it was longer and when he tried to adjust the lock, even at full adjustment, the key would not remove from the lock easily. I thanked him for trying (he spent about 5 minutes with me) and asked what I owed him. He said nothing and gave me a recommendation of another locksmith that might handle Baldwin locks. All in all, I learned alot from him and King will retain my business as they appear to know their stuff and are always willing to assist. I've never had them come to my house, because I haven't needed a locksmith at home personnally, but I usually try them first when I have a lock problem and can take it somewhere. They are also where I purchase my double deadbolts when I get a new home, because they carry quality items, even if it costs more.

I was quoted a price of $85 service call + $85 inspection and minor repairs, parts would be extra. Tech arrived on time and checked out my safe. Found the lock was fine and figured out why I was having the problem. Since the problem was minor and he only took about 10 minutes he cut the inspection price in half. They were very fair and honest.

Bought the safe on a Saturday and had it delivered to my house. The delivery was late. The delivery personnel unpacked the safe and explained how to set the combination and use the lock and how to secure it to the floor. They were very helpful.
