On the day of our move, while trying to disconnect the washer, the movers realized that the water connection to the washer was rusted through and could not be removed without a plumber fixing the connection first. We called John Moore and they were able to send someone out within an hour and a half. The plumber made the repair quickly and was professional. I would definitely recommend them and will use them in the future as I've had bad experiences in the past with plumbers charging an exorbitant amount of money and taking their sweet time arriving.

Our interaction with him was pleasant. He seemed overly eager. It took almost forever to get him out of the house. It was a little bit easier than some of the other quotes that we had gotten for house plumbing because they spent a lot of time talking to us about financing up to almost $20000 rather than just pay it in installments. He was pretty responsive and pretty punctual. Their quote was pretty good. It was middle of the line.
Description of Work: We got a quote from John Moore Services within a month. We didn't go with them. We were looking at redoing all the plumbing in the house.

I called this company wrongly convinced by the TV commercial they have been running. One of my AC units was blowing air but not cooling so I called John Moore for an assessment of the problem and an estimate to repair it. I was told someone would come between the hours of 8 am to 11 am. The individual who came arrived after 11 am with not apology or excuse from his part; however, he appeared to be an approachable and knowleadeble technician, at first. As he arrived and rang the bell, I opened the front door of my house and asked him to come in. I did notice he did not wipe his feet, nor he asked -like most strangers would- whether he needed to take his shoes off; however, I did not pay much mind to it, so I guided him to the second story where the thermostat and attic were. After I explained to him the signs of the malfunction, he asked me to show him where the outdoor unit was. As I walked him out of the house, he was following me until he decided to walk on my front yard grass instead of continue following me as I walked around on the sidewalk and the driveway to get to the unit. Although his behavior bothered me a little, I did not pay much mind to it, so I showed him where the A/C units were. He was nicely and patiently explaining to me what he needed to do; he took the circuit breaker out to cut the power to the unit and after removing a small cap, he hooked his gauging tool to the unit I believe to measure some kind of pressure... He determined that the unit in question had no pressure which indicated it had a leak and no freon in it...Then, he came back to the house and went into the attic. Again, he used some other tools to determine what the problem was... checked the coil part and the connecting ducts and concluded that the coil was definitely the damaged part which had a big leak and needed to be replaced. When I asked him to give me the estimate in writing, he went to his truck and got his computer, printer, and brochures. He came right back into the house, (again did not wipe his feet) and came straight to my formal dinning room. As he found an electrical outlet, he connected his computer and had no problem in taking a seat at the head of the table while connecting all his cables... Once again, I was bothered by his 'abusive' behavior, and I still did not say a word... I did not say a word even though the dinning table was beautifully dressed up with a fine tablecloth, and all set and decorated to celebrate my father's 80th birthday!!... As he is having a problem trying to print part of the estimate, he verbally told me the price of replacing the freon ($550) and the price of the coil ($2,700). While he was doing that, he took a call phone and talked to the person in the other side of the line for at least 10-15 minutes before I came out and told him to please tell his customer he was with another customer right now (ME!!) and he would call back. He disregarded me and continue talking on the phone so I insisted and told him I needed to be somewhere at 1:00 p.m. so he needed to tell his caller he would get back with him after taking care of my business. That was all it took for this technician to get up extremely upset, hanged up on his caller, aggressively picked up his belongings from MY FORMAL DINNING SET TABLE!!! and furiously left the house while telling me I was being rude to him!!! I escolted him out, gave him his tools he had left by the outdoor unit, and asked him to reconnect the cap he had removed ,to which he stated the unit did not have a cap... (although that end was completely cleaned thanks to having been covered by the missing cap until he touched it). As he run away, yes, he run away!, in his truck and because his aggresivity, I ended up calling the police to report the incident. It was the police officer who placed the breaker back to restore power to the unit. I also called the company office and reported the incident after waiting on the phone for someone to talk to for about 20-30 minutes. I was promised, they were going to mail the missing cap but after a week I have not yet received it... I never received it, Obviously it is not the 0.50-cents cap what it bothers, but the abusive behavior from the part of their technician and the ignoring from the part of the administrators of the company, which is the ultimate looser thanks to its employee who is not doing John Moore any favor... To consumers out there reading this report, a lesson learned: watch out! follow your instinct, and don't miss obvious signs of unaccepted behavior...if that was what John Moore's technician did when trying to sell their services and products, imagine what they would have done when they were actually working on your malfunctioning appliance...
Description of Work: No services were performed by the John Moore technician who came in to my house to diagnose an A/C problem and provide an estimate for the repair. Not only he did not perform the diagnostic/estimate task, but left the A/C unit nor working at all. When he left my property the A/C unit was left in a worst condition compared to what he found when he came . The company did not provide the estimate, and consequently there was no repair. The administrator at the office did not take my complaining call seriously and it was a police officer who ended up reinstalling the circuit breaker the technician left on the floor.. A complete dissapoitment!!!

I have used John Moore before and have been satisfied with their service. I had a portion of fence replaced about 18 months ago by another company. The person who replaced the fence set the new posts in concrete. Unfortunately, they concreted over and around the water main. The settling of the fence posts finally caused an elbow joint in the main to break. I called John Moore plumbing at about 12:30pm and they were able to dispatch a tech to me at 6pm. The tech analyzed the situation and gave me two estimates. The first estimate was to replace the broken elbow and leave the water main under the concreted fence post. The second estimate was to re-route the water main away from the concreted fence post. I decided that the best solution would be to re-reroute the water main around the concrete from the fence post. The tech dug a one foot deep trench around the fence post and laid new PVC pipe. The tech worked hard and efficiently. I was very satisfied with the job and the price. I appreciated that they came out on a Sunday night and stayed to complete the job even though it was getting dark.

I called John Moore for service on our air conditioner. They came out that evening. The technician checked the unit and said the fan motor needed replaced. He gave me an estimate of $1569.98 to replace the fan motor and capacitator. The estimate was broken down by the fan motor and the capacitor but not broken down by cost of parts and labor. Not knowing the cost of parts I thought they were expensive parts and we need the air conditioner fixed because my husband has ALS and has trouble breathing. He is bedridden and without air conditioning it is much harder for him to breath. Anyway they fixed the air conditioner and the next day I was telling a friend about it. They could not believe it and told me that we got ripped off big time. Both parts cost less than $100. The $1,469.98 was labor. The technician was here less than one hour. They may advertise no trip charge, no overtime, and free estimates but if you use their service you will more than pay for it in the long run. I called them to question the charges and they said they do not break down the prices into parts and labor because it might confuse the customer. They said it was less confusing to give one price for everything. I don't mind paying for service but I don't like to feel I am being taken advantage of. I would not recommend their service to anyone.

The company is offering free inspections on a homeowner's electrical panel so we called. The lady who set the appointment was probably one of the most professional I've met. Efficient at her job and focused on making sure she understood what I needed. When the evaluator/estimator came, he was punctual and professional. He looked at the box and told us that it needed to be replaced (actually that was not a surprise to us). He also said we needed an intersystem bond/cold water bond/ground clamp and that we needed to change the jumpers in the metor can to copper. The estimate was by far the highest we received. We went with another company (lower bid and high recommendations) and low and behold, we already had a water bond/ground clamp. UGH!! Let's see... and quot;Call John, get more..bills/chargesand quot;

A gentlemen who actually spoke English came out and gave us an estimate and explained our options. He also mentioned that until the AC unit could be installed, portable AC units would be provided to us. Great start! That night, another English speaking employee came out and installed the portables. Great first night dealing with the company. While I was at work, the installers came out. They dealt with my wife at the start the job. Things apparently were going well, but when my wife left and I got home from work, it was a different story. Both the installers spoke very poor English. One tried to explain to me that there may be a problem with the thermostat and that I should call for another tech because they didn't have a thermostat to install. He also said that there was a problem with the plumbing and that I might need to call a plumber maybe. I didn't want to wait, so I ran to Home Depot and bought a thermostat and installed it per the instructions and his recommendation to turn off the power at the unit upstairs. I wired it up and attempted to test it. It would not cool. I checked the outside and there was a large black fuse sitting on top of the electrical junction box. So, I had to wait for a second tech to come look at the system. Did I mention that an and quot;Q.A. Inspectorand quot; came to review the work that his techs did? SO when the third tech showed up he also didn't speak much English. He said that I installed the thermostat wrong! Really? What part was wrong? The jump wire from RC to RH was not right. Ironically, that wire came pre-installed. When I showed him the picture of the fuse sitting on the junction box, I asked him if that didn't look like an incomplete install. He said he wasn't allowed to talk about that. Eventually the air began to work. Why did I mention the lack of fluent English? Because things like plumbing and HVAC and electrical are vital to the home. Some of them can be safety matters! As it turns out, the plumbing problem was that the drain pipe the the drip pan feeds into is clogged. the water from the AC is overflowing into my master bedroom wall. A clear message of the specifics of the problem and the severity would have been very helpful. Now, I get to replace the carpet in my bedroom and ten feet of sheet rock. plus what ever the cost of the plumbing work is. I am still waiting to get my MORE that the commercial promises!

Monday, May 23, 2011, John Moore was called out because my a/c was not cooling. Mike the tech charged $718.00, but he did not fix the unit. The tech never checked the freon or anything else. He changed out 2 capacitors. The house did start to cool down slightly. I called them back at 4:00 pm because the house was 78 degrees again. I called repeatedly, finally he came out that night at 11:30 pm because I insisted that someone come back and fix the a/c. John Moore did not send out another tech, they sent the same guy back after he had finished other jobs. This time the tech walked in with the gauges. His invoice shows that he added 10lbs of freon. He still did not check anything. He also said that I needed to replace the evaporator. Again the unit started to cool down, put again the house heated up to 80 degrees. I called John Moore's office to report that they did not fix my a/c. They said they would get back with me. On June 6, the tech's supervisor called and said they would not do anything regarding the bill. He wanted to send someone else out. I refused to have that company out ever again. I called a 2nd company and they fixed my a/c. Their invoice shows that the a/c had been overcharged. I sent a report to the Better Business Bureau,Texas Attorney General Office, Ripoff Report, Complaints Board, to name a few. Then on July 19, I received a call from Tom Cartledge, of John Moore, because he had gotten a copy of my report. He said that he would get back to me. I called him back repeatedly, left a message, and he has not called me back.

I had the electrician hook up power to two exhaust fans in each of my bathrooms. I gave him a cup of coffee and he accidentily spilled it in all the drawers in the bathroom. That was not a big problem, but he never told me that he spilled it in my wife's makeup drawers and in all our towels. I also discover a mess the he did not clean from each instalation. Never would use them for anything at all.
Description of Work: Lost a leg of electricity. Electrician and a crew came, crew to dig trench and electrician repair lines. The KIDS who preformed this serivce did not know what they were doing, punchured gas line, created total mess. They let the gas run out for 30 minutes before doing or saying anything. I had to call the gas company because they ( including the eletrician) did not know what to do other than call their office. Fire department had to come, gas company had to come and phone company. Big, big mess and stress. Had no electricity, two large dogs, in the heat of summer. Had to take another day off of work. all of those lines were in the 10 foot long by 5 foot trench that was dug in my backyard. unfortunately, the electrician did not know how to handle anything, at all. He did not inform me of anything, I had to inquire with him and the crew. Would never, never use John Moore for anything again. This was my first and last expereince with them. The electrician hasseled me for over a month for payment, and i would not finish paying until customer service and myself resolved my issues. After much hassle with the customer service, managers, for 30 days they fianlly gave me a very small discount. I was not a happy customer, I finished paying my bill. Then a few months later I heard of Angies list, I joined , found another electrician to do more electial work on my house so I could finally have piece of mind. Very expensive lesson to learn.

The electrician came out initially to diagnose the problem. He explained that there would be no charge for the diagnosis and visit if I used John Moore to do the actual work. Upon informing me that I needed a new fan, I was told that the cost would be $250. I asked for an explanation of this charge, particularly with regard to what type of replacement fan would be installed (prices for these vary widely and I wanted to know which brand and model was going to be installed). I was told by the electrician that he didn't know. I then spoke to the manager who explained that this is just how they do the pricing and the specific brand and model would not be known until the electrician actually bought it (apparently the electrician is an independent contractor). It seemed odd that have a fixed price with no idea of what part of this went for the part and what part for the service. Though still not satisfied, I was a bit desperate and didn't want to pay the $100 for the initial visit and start over with another company. So, in the end I worked with the electrician and asked him to give me the box and receipt for the fan in case it broke in the future, etc. Unfortunately, he turned out to be extremely unreliable. He missed two scheduled appointments for the repair work, one case on a Sunday when I could neither reach him nor anyone else at JM. I waited for 3 hours (this is a rental property) and finally gave up. Eventually he made the third scheduled appointment and did the work...this time, with the tenants supervising him. The wife said she was and quot;creeped outand quot; by him and did not feel comfortable being home alone with the electrician. Overall, this was perhaps the worst experience I have ever had with any repair or service company. ... and I have had many between my own home and rental properties I own/ have owned. Maybe this was an isolated incident, but trust me, I talked with customer service and management many times and was never given any compensation or satisfactory explanation. I will never use John Moore again.

We called John Moore Electric on a Sunday since the GFI on our outdoor plug for our fountain was not working and we were leaving town the next day. They were able to get someone to help in in two hours, so we went ahead and asked him to look at undercounter lighting. It took him several hours and we agreed to some updating which made the price a little higher than we had wanted. But, it all works and there was no extra charge for Sunday work. We also called the on a Saturday for another major GFI replacement and had a similarly good experience.

We discovered a puddle in the bathroom floor and were unable to determine the source of the leak. We were scheduled to leave town the next morning. My husband called John Moore around 8 p.m. and they were at out house by 9:30 the next morning. The plumber was very professional and methodically narrowed down the source of the leak. It turned out to be a pipe seal inside of the wall behind the bathroom mirror. He fixed the leak and had us on the road by 12:30 p.m.
Description of Work: The plumber located and repaired a leak inside the wall between two bathrooms.

The technician opened up the access outside to determine that it was the toilet leaking. He also went inside to look in the bathroom, underneath the sink to make sure it was't leaking. There was no water around or behind the toilet, but he determined that I should also replace the toilet. Cost estimate was $1,109.95, and the replacement toilet was $499.00 (the cheapest he had in stock), total $1,608.95. The cost included pulling and resetting the toilet, changing the flange, access, and a helper for two hours. I called a relative who told me the estimate seemed a bit high, and that to him it sounded as it it was just the wax ring that needed replacing, which was a $5.00 part. He came and looked at it. Apparently, the screws at the bottom of the toilet were a bit loose, and had caused the wax ring to shift, causing the leak. He bought the part, and fixed it in about an hour. And it was a $5.00 part after all.
Description of Work: Received an estimate to repair a toilet that was leaking, with water dripping through the outside wall.

I was very pleased. They did a great job. They were very thorough and professional. I felt that they did exactly what they said they would do. I usually inspect work. I never had termites after that. Before that, I had seen termites a couple of times. I didn't have any issues. They came through. Their price was less than half of some other providers, and I felt they had a better treatment system. In fact, the other providers who advertise a lot are just misrepresenting their services.
Description of Work: I used John Moore Services 3-4 years ago. I had them do termite control in my other house. They did termite prevention and termite treatment.

The date of service is not correct, because I've never done more than request a proposal from these guys, though my wife may have hired them once, sometime, more than 2 years ago.
Description of Work: No services were performed. We had called this company on several occasions, over the last few years, for a number of services, ranging from A/C, to plumbing, but mostly plumbing. We, at those times, already knew what the problem was and wanted a proposal. They wanted to charge us, I think, about $85, just to come to the house. I can understand from a business standpoint, that time is money, and time that could have been spent earning money doing actual work, not to mention the cost of driving to my home. What I found, after calling every other contractor, coming to my home for no charge, to get an opportunity to promote and sell their services, is a cost of doing business. We had received an estimate from John Moore years ago, for a job we eventually awarded to ARS. We know after joining Angie's List, that ARS isn't cheap, but John Moore charged more! I gave them another opportunity to propose service on my home via phone, may have been the A/C, and their phone service rep. kept shoving a pest control promotion down my throat, having no relavence to the reason for my call. For what appeared to be a very inexpensive additional cost to the service I called about, they would offer me a pest control treatment that normally cost 3-4 times as much. I prodded further, as the saying goes, "if it's too good to be true..." I had to pry it out of the rep that the promo he was offering didn't have the guaranty that the full price service had, and ultimately, wasn't a better value then the regular plan at all. No deal! I've decided not to consider John Moore for services, from that point on. Nothing turns me off more than agressive sales tactics.

Member, Thank you for taking the time to submit your comments about your experiences with John Moore Services. You may be glad to learn that as of January of this year, we are no longer charging trip fees or diagnostic fees for any trade. We feel that this provides a better customer experience and our customers agree! I apologize that our Pest Control promotion was presented to you in a manner you found bothersome. Coming across as offensive or pushy certainly wasn't our intention. If there is anything that I can do to convince you to use John Moore Services for any of your Plumbing, HVAC, Electrical or Renovation needs, please let me know. Thank you, Tom Cartledge Customer Service Manager

I had called another plumber on Angie's list to clear the kitchen drain. When they arrived they quoted a price from their flat rate manual of $285 to clear the drain. I asked about replacing a filter on a bar sink and they wanted $189 for that. I know what prices should run and these were completely unreasonable, so I did not use the other plumber. I called John Moore on Sunday, July 3 at about 1:30. I was willing to wait until Tuesday after the holiday, but they said, no, they were available 24/7, there would be no extra charge, that the $69 price for drain cleaning would apply, and they would be there after 3. The serviceman arrived promptly. He replaced the filter on the bar sink at no charge, and cleared the drain with a power auger very quickly. Outstanding, very professional service by the call staff and the technician, Christian. Instead of paying a total of $474 to another plumber, I got outstanding service from John Moore for only $69! I highly recommend them!
Description of Work: Called to have the kitchen drain cleaned as it was stopped up. In addition to clearing the drain, they replaced a water filter on a faucet at no charge!

Mike Harmon was the supervisor of the technicians and he came out to my house. He started yanking everything out of my kitchen. With me being disabled I cannot work around the mess that they left. He asked me to move my medication and even said, and ldquo;Don't you have a cupboard for all of this.and rdquo; He specifically said he doesn't stand behind his technicians which is not professional at all. For all I know this could be someone who is not even qualified to do the job and they did shotty work. I need them to stand behind my service policy, and they are not even guaranteeing the work. They are not dependable and if you get a good work man you never know if he will be the one that comes out. James was one of the good workmen and I could not get him to come back to do the work. This, to me is not even a company. This to me is too risky and I would not recommend John Moore Plumbing to anyone.
Description of Work: I was going for a reverse mortgage and John Moore came out to inspect my plumbing and put new valve systems on my washer connection.
