When he returned from Lowe's he came back to the attic and it was the same situation. He then went to his truck and smoked a cigarette and watched the lady across the street in her short shorts work in her yard and talked on his phone for 20 minutes or so. I was watching him from my window. He then came back to my house with his bill and told me I needed to sign it. I ask about the freon and he said it was fine. After he left I was looking at the bill and called Discover to ask them not to pay the $269.99 he was charging me to check the freon and the system outside as he never came to the side of my house or touched the unit outside. I even went outside and checked the unit and the ground around it and nothing had been touched or opened. Discover said since I had signed his paperwork, there was nothing they could do. I will not recommend them and never use them again. I also regognize that it was the repairman that did this and not the company as I had used them berfore. But I will never use them again as they did not believe me when I tried to tell them of his actions.
Description of Work: I paid this clown to look in my attic and fix A/C problems and to check freon and unit outside as well. His feet never went into my attic. He sat and did whatever he did from the attic entrance. Maybe he could fix it from there. He was a little overweight and probably could not move around in an attic too well. He had to leave and go to Lowe's for some parts and was gone a half hour or so.

.Lowsey service. I am mot happy at all. They are too expensive. I am not happy with them at all.
Description of Work: .I wanted a light out over my address numbers. They did install a new outlet and light. I had to take the light out because it put a shadow on the address. He did run the electrical right. He did not put the light in correct spot. I don't even use the light because of this. It doesn't serve the purpose. I feel like they just took my money and did not do what I wanted them to do.

We called John Moore Plumbing to come check out a leak from the ceiling in our bedroom. The first person (the estimator) came out exactly on time. Was very polite and professional. But he also tried to sell me a complete "re-pipe" of my entire house. We asked him to focus on the problem at hand - a leaking pipe. The estimate he gave seemed very exorbitant for the amount of work ($2,300 to replace a water heater and replace a 10 foot section of pipe). However, we were in a bind so we agreed to do it. He had to arrange for another guy to come out to do the actual work. The second guy came out about 3 hours later. Again, very polite and professional and very knowledgeable. He called out a third guy to come help install the water heater. These two were at our house for about 6 hours. We think they could have finished the job a lot faster if they had really tried. The work seems to have been completed well. We would grade them a B for quality of work; B for getting it done in a timely manner; and D for pricing.
Description of Work: Replaced a leaking pipe and replaced an old water heater.

I would never use this company again. I think they take advantage of people who are not knowledgable. I think Angie's list should check the good reviews - I suspect they are plants to keep the overall rating average.
Description of Work: They spent about twenty minutes installing a motor on my air-condition. I was charged $1300. I checked the price of the motor on the internet; it cost $98. I should have known, I used them before to change out a capacitor on the AC, and they told me I should replace the unit at a cost of more than $10,000. I insisted I only wanted to change the capacitor, which was done reluctantly. I worked fine for 6 months until the motor problem

I liked the fact that they showed up quickly and that they called. Their price was high. They were reliable but expensive. I have used them before and they have been wonderful but this particular time what they did didn't impress me that much. They are professional. I would probably use them in the future. It depends on what I need done. They do everything. They do HVAC; they have done my air conditioning work and plumbing work in the past. They were really good on the air conditioning work. They are very responsive to anything I have talked to them about.

We were going to change the meters from the old stove to the new stove. We got shook up when we heard so much about the new stove causing fire and burning down in some of the homes that they were installed in so we called John Moore and got an estimate. The quality of service was excellent. Their responsive and punctuality was excellent too. They were very professional.

We had the worst experience and hassle with John Moore. We had some trouble with our A/C fan not coming on, so we reached for the phonebook (before we knew about Angie's list), and found their ad on the front. There was a $20 coupon, so I gave them a call. I asked the lady on the phone how much it would cost to have them come out and check the unit. She assured me that the cost to come inspect the unit was free. I thought that was a pretty good deal, so I scheduled an appointment. The tech comes out and spends a few minutes looking around the unit, but then says he needs $169 to do a "full diagnostic." I reminded him that the company told me it was free to inspect the unit. He stated he couldn't see a problem without doing a complete inspection...I told him, what is included for free...just making sure we actually have a unit? The conversation didn't go well after that. Because it was a very hot in the house and I have a baby, I went ahead and paid the fee with the thoughts that I would call the company back and complain. The guys takes literally two minutes to test the control board (which I found out later has lights on it that indicate the problem) and says, I need a control board. I asked how much that it costs and he quoted me $579 and then proceeded to try and sell be a complete unit for $3500, plus about $4500 worth of insulation and radiant barrier. I declined to have John Moore service the unit and used another company and was able to repair the unit for $80. I called the customer service line and reported my issue...and that basically said that they would look into it and later determined the tech made the right decision. I filed a complaint with BBB and that finally got some wheels turning. The company finally agreed to refund $75.I told them all along that I didn't expect for them to come out for free, but the told me that they do. I feel this is a bait and switch program and countless people fall for it. The diagnostic fee is way too high in my opinion. I only agreed to a $75 refund, because I am not one that wants something for nothing and I fully expected to pay something when I reached for the phone book. John Moore boasts about their AAA rating with the BBB. I can't imagine how unless the rumor is true that they have connections at the BBB.

Dear Customer, Please accept our apology that you were not satisfied with your experience with John Moore Services. You are correct that in April of 2010 we offered a free visual diagnostic and no trip charge. If the problem could not be diagnosed with the visual inspection, a fee of $169.00 was charged to perform a full diagnostic. We understand that you felt the charges weren’t properly explained to you prior to booking the appointment (hence the refund) and for that we are truly sorry. However, John Moore Services now offers no trip charge and a free visual and diagnostic on all trades (Plumbing, Electrical, and AC.) It was a nightmare experience for us. Nearly seven thousand dollars just to put in a brand new water heater. And they left huge holes where the former pipes had connected to the former water heater in the closet and charged up lots of extra labor hours unnecessarily relocating/repiping the new one into the attic. I am handicapped and my grandmother is elderly and my mom felt that they really 'took us for broke.' We feel John Moore discriminates against handicap, elderly, and female customers by over-billing for extremely unnecessary excessive labor hours, and way, way over-charging on parts and new items. The irony is that now the new water heater runs cold water for like five minutes before the water gets hot even! These guys are crooked as the mafia, and we've noticed numerous trucks of theres idling, or with the engine on, in parking lots where it seems the techs are just sitting around in their trucks' A/C or Heat and playing video games on their company laptops. DO YOU WANT TO PAY FOR ALL THIS FLUFF AND NON-SENSE HIGHWAY ROBBERY? WE NEVER WILL EVER AGAIN AS FORMER AS FORMER JOHN MOORE CUSTOMERS WHO GOT GRIFTED HARD! RUN WHEN YOU SEE EITHER A JOHN MOORE UNIFORMED TECH OR THEIR TRUCKS. THEY'RE STELLARLY TRAINED PROFESSIONAL MASTER THIEVES.
Description of Work: My grandmother and I simply had a problem with our water heater not working correctly. It was located in a closet inside the house. The heat may've simply needed to be turned up, or the pilot electronically re-lit, to resolve the problem of cold water in the faucets/showers/tubs. John Moore informed us that we needed a brand new water heater, and that it had to be repositioned, re-piped, into the attic. The water now takes a long time to heat up, and it seems the temperature fluctuates wildly when taking a shower as well. These guys, John Moore, strong arm the customer, any customer they unfortunately come into contact with, into a humongously expensive sale, versus simply fixing a repairable machine(like a water heater). They go ape crazy on tons of unnecessary plumbing, re-routing of pipe, and hours of labor.

Dear Customer, Thank you for taking the time to submit your experience with John Moore Services. We regret to hear that you were not happy with your service call. Per our conversation following this complaint, you have declined to discuss your concerns with us directly. However, I would encourage you to do so as customer satisfaction is extremely important to us and I am sure that we can make this apparently unfortunate situation much better. That being said, I have researched this service request and found the following. 1) The amount we charged you for this work was less than half of what you reported above that you paid. If you have records that indicate that the amount above is in fact what you paid, please contact us immediately so that we can further research and resolve this issue! 2) All of the work performed by John Moore Services comes with a warranty. Although this job was performed on August 8th of 2008, it carries a 6-year part and a 6-year labor warranty (as noted on your copy of the invoice). Therefore, if your water heater is not working as you state in your complaint, we would be happy to fix the problem at no cost to you. Unfortunately, prior to the posting of this complaint, it does not appear that we have ever been made aware of any problem with this water heater since it was installed in 2008. Again I encourage you to contact us so that we may help to resolve your concerns. (713-730-2525 ask for Customer Care) All of our customers are very important to us! Called John Moore to see if my water heater that had stopped working could be repaired. I thought it could be as simple as replacing the burner unit, but I needed an expert to look at it. They set me up with an appointment window that same day and then called back to confirm. I was told they would call 30 minutes in advance of showing up at my place. I work 10 minutes away so I did not plan to leave work until I got the phone call. A couple of hours into my window, the dispatcher called and asked if I was there and could he send someone over anytime. I told him I was 10 minutes away so I would need a phone call 15 minutes before the technician planned to arrive. I never heard from them again. Luckily for me, my boyfriend came home early from work and was there when the technician arrived (with no phone call). He asked how old the unit was and when he was told it was probably about 12 years old, he went up to the attic, looked at the water heater for about a minute and came down and wrote up an estimate to replace it. Fine. If it needed replaced, so be it. But the quote he wrote for replacing it included an $1,800 water heater with a 42 gal capacity [I think he misquoted and it should have been $1,700 according to his notebook] (8 gal less than my current water heater) and an 8 year warranty (I found what looked like the same one online for $364), a $300 charge to pull a city permit (I called the city and they said the permit is $95), PLUS $400 for "attic access". Unbelievable. They tried telling us their water heaters are much better quality - I was fine with my old water heater's quality and don't need one that is commerical grade or whatever it was they were trying to sell us, which I would have told them had they ever bothered to follow up with me. We hired another plumber who came and installed a 50 gallon water heater in my attic for a total cost of $685.
Description of Work: Called John Moore for an estimate on whether my water heater could be repaired. They determined (in one minute) that it would not be cost effective to repair and provided an estimate to replace it instead.

They did not do the work.
Description of Work: I had a water leak in the ceiling and called them to come out. They came out and advised me that I needed to have all the horizonal pipes in the attic replaced since they were rotting and this had happened before. They actually showed me the rotting pipe. I asked for a quote and they told me it would be over $8,000. My house is about 1200 sq ft, with 2 baths. I thought this was a bit overpriced and called around. I got another estimate that day of $2,400 for the exact same thing, using the same materials to replace the damaged pipes. The best thing I can say for them is that they were prompt, the repairmen are nice and they were willing to do it that day. They are just WAY over priced. I'm glad I called around.

Initially, I had a rocky experience. We scheduled for a plumber to come out to the house between a 3 hour window and nobody showed up. Since I've had a positive experience before, I decided to call back and give them one last chance. I'm very glad I did. Do yourself a favor and request David Ayala. He showed up on time, was professional, and clearly explained the problem we were having along with a list of options on how to go about fixing it. He cleaned up after himself and was a pleasure to have in our home. I will continue to use John Moore and thank David for his help!

Description of Work: John Moore replaced all the plumbing under the house. House was old and galvazined pipes, Repairmen sent out were great and did what they were supposed to do. Les and Marcus were great! Our only issue came when the city of Houston had to approved the plumbing. They needed pictures of the work done under the house, and we were not prepared to do that. We had to wait a few days for the inspector to come out and we had pictures to show him that the repairs were done as specified. Other than the delay the job was done as we wanted it!! The work went well, and the end result is that the drain works fine. My dispute is with the price they charged to install the Pop Up Assembly! I have had to call twice to speak with and quot;Customer Careand quot; and they keep telling me they will refer it to the manager of that team. He told me that that is the and quot;bookand quot; price for this install. I have checked with 3 reputable area plumbers and was told they wouldn't charge over $100.00 to install that part.
Description of Work: The plumber from John Moore had to install a PopUP assembly in a bathroom. They didn't have the part in their truck, so had to go get at Home Depot. Proceeded to charge 269099 to install a $40.00 part. Outrageous. !!!! In addition to charging 218.99 to clear the drain and replumb pipes.

I called them specifically to pull a gas inspection permit for the City of Baytown b/c they now require a licensed plumber and not just the homeowner to pull the permit. I called and explained all this to John Moore and they scheduled a guy to come out. I usually have my brother-in-law or father with me when I deal with contractors b/c, unfortunately, many of them treat women differently as if we know nothing about anything home repair. I rehab homes all over the area so am very familiar with repair processes and costs. The John Moore rep came in immediately started listing a number of things he thought would not pass inspection. When I asked him if those were things required by code in the City of Baytown, he said he wasn't sure and would call the city inspector to check on some things. That was the first sign of serious trouble. So even though I had asked for a knowledgeable person familiar with Baytown, this guy had no idea. He failed to reach the city inspector and so called his supervisors. Each item he pointed out I again asked if that was Baytown or other code and he told me instead that that how his company handled those items. I knew he was trying to load up the unnecessary repairs and let him finish his inspection. When he finally got through his list he told me it was going to cost over $4000!!!! to get everything fixed!! I was floored to say the least. Afterall , the lines had been pressure tested three times, including a licensed inspector and by the A/C and furnace repair company. He said he didn't know what had been done before but this is what he found. I told him it would be cheaper to get a whole new water heater installed. I again asked for an explanation of each item and if it was required by the City of Baytown or other code, He said again, well that's what and quot;his company handbookand quot; told him to do. Much of his explanation was and quot;Well, you probably need to get this done, and quot; and and quot;they might require thisand quot; but not a single definitive answer as to the what exactly was needed to pass the City of Baytown inspection! Wow, what a horrible experience and the waste of time.
Description of Work: I called them specifically to pull a gas inspection permit for the City of Baytown b/c they now require a licensed plumber and not just the homeowner to pull the permit. I called and explained all this to John Moore and they scheduled a guy to come out to perform a gas safety inspection.

He then said, in order for him to look at it he would do an A-Z inspection and it would cost $150. So we had them go through that but he wasn't out there but about 10 minutes. He said the whole system was in lockdown and he couldn't fix it. He then started right away to try and sell me a new unit for $8,000. I told him I would need to get back with him since it was a big purchase. He then sat in my driveway waiting for my husband to get home. He called the next morning still trying to sell a new unit and being pushy. I found out that my husband ended up calling someone else and they fixed it. All it needed was a new capacitater and it continued to run perfectly fine. He didn't give us the A-Z inspection, he was just a total sales guy.
Description of Work: My air wasn't cooling and their whole thing was that it was free for them to come out and look at it.

I don't have any idea if their prices were comparable because I didn't investigate prices. I don't know if that was a good price or not. He gave me a good, better and best choice. I went with the best. He told me how much will be needed to dig that far and put in that much of pipe in. It was an official list. I don't know if someone would have come and done it for cheaper or not. I had asked for a particular guy and I did not get him. If you are trying to get a plumber that you have worked with before, they probably are not going to send the same guy. So you are stuck with a new guy. This guy was decent. He did the work with his crew. He did allow me to get the parts. The last time I dealt with John Moore, the plumber said that I could get the parts from the manufacturer and that they will mail it to me for free. Then he put those in for me. I asked the new guy if I could get the parts and he agreed. He put in later, but he was not real personable that time. He got the job done and I haven't had any problem with it since. I don't like the fact you get somebody new every single time. I think that sometimes it is worthwhile to call two or three different companies for plumbing. I am not real pleased with John Moore. There were two guys who came out and I felt like one guy found a penny in the drain. He said that there was something rattling down there. I didn't hear the penny. I thought that he had put the penny down the drain. I called and complained about that. I am not sure that I trust them too much. They did a good job. They wouldn't be my first choice to call in future.
Description of Work: John Moore Plumbing fixed the main water line that broke and a faucet sometime in March. I had him dig up the hole all the way from the box to the outside faucet.
