This is an update to my previous post. As expected , John Moore gave us quotes for unnecessary work. We went with another electrician, Jeff Weisman, and he found the problem right away, fixed it and all we paid was the $120 he charged us for his visit. This proves that John Moore is not a trustworty company.

John Moore wanted approximately Ten to Twenty times what a friend of my son, who works for the city. She said it should only be Three Hundred or Four hundred dollars. That was sickening when he gave me their company amount. And when my son told me about the companies amount being so outrageous. And the amount the job should be. My husband and I were very very upset!
Description of Work: Forgive me for not getting back. I have a Thumb/Wrist Brace on and it's hard to type. I was so disgusted by this company. My husband called them. Because of that STUPID SONG on their Commercial. The man that came out here was telling me things that I knew was a bunch of lies. I told him I went on Angie's list and I wanted a different company. That my husband didn't know anything about them. He started in about him and his wife had Angie's list. I won't repeat what he said. I was really upset with him. I just laughed and ignored him. I truly want people to know that this company has a really bad attitude and as I read. A really bad reputation. Don't use them. If you value your time and money. DO get their song out of your head! That is an estimate date. I'm not sure if it was October? Service performed: Dug a hole and had a camera on this line. He told me something was busted. I took pics. with my IPhone and showed my husband. My husband said, he couldn't tell what it was and it didn't show what the problem was. My husband said it did not show anything that was showing what the problem was. And it was called a plumbing job.

Called John Moore to schedule a visit as several outlets in our house stopped functioning. A technician named Kevin came to look at the issue and gave me three estimates for three levels of work that could be performed. I found their prices to be overly high for the work needed. I paid half of the lowest level estimate and scheduled work for the following day at 11 am. At noon, Kevin still had not showed up. I called John Moore's customer service who then promised Kevin would give me a call with his estimated arrival time. At 1 pm, I still had not heard from him. I called customer service again, the lady tells me another technician is on his way. Further in the conversation she says the technician is still working on a home downtown (I live in the Galleria), and has to stop at the shop to get the necessary parts for my job prior to coming to my house. At that point I had other commitments and asked to be refunded the $250 I paid and cancel everything. Going with a more trustworthy company from now on.
Description of Work: GFCI outlets throughout the house stopped functioning. John Moorw technician offered three estimates to either do a quick fix -$500, a more thorough job that entailed replacing the whole fuse box (unnecessary in our opinion) - $3,000, and an even higher estimate to install a surge something something that was purely unnecessary code-wise.- $3,900.

They did a good job - came out on a Sunday and performed the job rather quickly. My husband thought the price was reasonable. They charged us a bit extra for the A/C repair - telling us that the city required it. It sounded a bit strange, but the repair was fine. I wish they would've told us ahead of time about the extra fee.
Description of Work: He came on a Sunday to fix a leak in a pipe in my wall. He actually had to cut a hole in the wall to get to this pipe. He also fixed an A/C problem a week or two later.

I have used John Moore many times in past and been reasonably pleased. 10/30/2012 set up appointment for time slot 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. At 5:10 p.m. I called for a status of arrival time as was told (after dispatcher checked) that plumber was on the way. At 7:10 p.m. I called back and found out the plumber was on another job. Set up an appointment for same time slot next day. At 4 p.m. called to check on status. Dispatcher would check on plumber and call me. At 5:15 p.m. after hearing nothing I called back and canceled appointment and told John Moore that they had lost my business. DO NOT USE THIS PLUMBER.

I called John Moore and the technician, Jason Wilkins, arrived within a couple of hours. I was very impressed that John Moore sent someone out as quickly as they did. I explained the problem and Jason did a thorough inspection of the home testing/looking for gas leaks. After finding gas leaks and recommending that we drain a clogged area in our A/C unit in the attic, he gave a written Good Estimate to let me know the potential costs. He explained what he was doing each step of the way. The communication was very good. He was at the house for almost 3 hours repairing the leaks and clearing the A/C clog. He also assisted me as I called the Gas company to request they turn the gas back on. He said that he would return for free if the gas company found any leaks. He recommended that I have the regulator on the stove replaced, although this was not part of the work he performed. Jason was professional, polite and respectful- he wore shoe coverings when he entered the house. I highly recommend requesting Jason to work in your home. My only complaint is that the price was high. I realize that I could have gone with a less expensive company, but when dealing with something as serious as a gas leak, you don't want to rely on shoddy work.

The plumber completed the work in approximately 1 hour, however most of the time was spent sitting out in the truck. The charge was $499 for the work that we later checked had $23 worth of materials at Home Depot and did not involve any welding or soldering or specialty work. When my boyfriend called to complain about the cost charged to his parents, the company stated that this is the right charge for these specific tasks. They refused to acknowledge that this cost was completely unreasonable, but was willing to offer $100 off the next service by John Moore. The next day, his parents received an e-mail only offering $25 off the next service. This is outrageously expensive for the services performed and totally took advantage of an elderly couple. They have further been non-responsive to requests (by e-mail and phone) for receipts.
Description of Work: The job was to change the wax seal on the toilet which was leaking on my boyfriend's elderly parents house. The plumber told them when he arrived that the cutoff valve for the toilet supply needed to be replaced. John Moore changed the wax seal and replaced a threaded connection 3/4" toilet cutoff valve.

The price was exorbitant, but they offered to assist with financing. Unfortunately, they started calculating the interest from the moment I talked to them on the phone, which was two weeks before they even came out to begin the work (Lesson learned - do NOT let these guys finance for you!) When we were given a 4 hour window for the technician to come, the guy didn't come, the dispatch was completely unhelpful and then rude, it took two days for a technician to get there - when he finally got there, he was inexperienced and didn't know how to do the work. What they originally told me would take 6 hours to complete ended up doing a full week. At the time, the State of Texas was offering a rebate on energy efficient water heaters. Mine was installed in the critical time window that was required by the state in order to get the rebate, but John Moore backdated the paperwork to before the rebate window, so I was denied the rebate by the State. I have used John Moore several times. The first few times were very good - my opinion is that their experienced plumbers are very skilled. The junior plumber they sent out was trying his darnedest, but needed help. He was a pleasant young guy, but in over his head. The dispatch and the back office are all a bunch of incompetent, unprofessional, and quot;no customer serviceand quot; people that completely ruined the experience. Because of dispatch and back office, I will NEVER do business with this company again. Just the sight of their trucks makes me angry all over again. I have never in my life been so angry with a service provider in any industry.
Description of Work: They were hired to remove two 18 year old standard water heaters, and replace those with a single tankless water heater. They were to also install a water softener at the same time.

I scheduled an appointment for an A/C check and received a 3-hour window for the technician to arrive. At the time, I was told there was no cost for a check of the A/C system, but was informed that there would be a $50 fee if I was not at the property during the agreed service window. I was at the home in advance of the appointment and waited approximately 2 1/2 hours (in the 100+ degree heat) before calling the company. When I called, I was informed that no one was going to come to the scheduled appointment and was given no explanation as to why they were not going to honor it. This company clearly does not value customers nor did they make any apologies for the inconvenience they caused me by failing to meet the appointment.

I called John Moore because my A/C compressor was not coming on. The repair man/SALES MAN came out to my house and within 5 minutes of being at my house said that I needed to spend $1,500 to replace the fan, 1 capacitor and lost Freon. He also gave me other and quot;optionsand quot; of replacing my entire system (5ton) for $8,900 (14 SEER) or $7,000 for (13 SEER). Before I made a decision of replacing my system with John Moore, I looked on BBB and found that John Moore is NOT BBB Accredited. I showed the salesman that his company was not BBB accredited and he came up with an obviously rehearsed story and had his supervisor call me. Unimpressed with his $1,500 repair cost and lies about BBB accreditation I did not use John Moore Services. I feel that John Moore Services was not really interested in helping me get my A/C problem fixed in the most efficient and economical manner. I called a different service company the next day and received a MUCH, MUCH, MUCH more reasonable and honest repair cost. The other service company said that I only needed a new capacitor and some Freon. 2 years ago I had a capacitor replaced on my outside A/C by John Moore. Rafael told me that the same capacitor went out again because my fan was bad. Turns out, it was a different capacitor and my fan did not need to be replaced. I feel that John Moore Services super inflated the true cost of my repair in order to try and get me to buy an a new A/C. This is no way to do business. That is dishonest, misleading and John Moore Services has put a bad taste in my mouth.

Thank you for allowing John Moore Services the opportunity to provide you an estimate for the repairs. First, let me address the price concern issue. John Moore technicians are the best trained and best equipped in the industry. Additionally, each technician must pass and extensive background check and drug test before being considered. John Moore technicians always offer different options, as is in your case plus John Moore never charges a trip fee. Our warranties are the best in the industry, second to none. Our technician's character is impeccable. John Moore provides more than just a service...we provide solutions and peace of mind. This is why with John Moore, you get more......there is a price associated with the quality of service we provide. Now, let's address the BBB issue. The rating given by the local BBB has nothing to do with service. As a matter of fact, we have A+ ratings in Dallas and other cities that we are a member of. The Houston BBB has made an issue out of advertising an award we won for 8 consecutve years in Houston. This matter is now in the courts and will dealt with in the courts. Please, do not associate the rating the local BBB has given John Moore to our quality of service. The standards that the national BBB uses rates John Moore an A+. Each BBB is a franchise and this BBB elects to use a different standard. These are the facts. I encourage you to call me at 713-730-2525 . I would like an opprtunity to earn your business back. energy audit

I am LIVID!! I am so furious that I want to strangle someone. My husband and I are buying our first home. We are also trying to get an "EEM" (Energy Efficient Mortgage), which essentially just lets you borrow up to an additional $6000 for improvements/repairs that will make your home more energy-efficient. Thus, I have been searching for someone to perform an energy efficiency audit (for whatever reason, apparently not as attainable as a few years ago). A few days ago someone tipped me off to this company and said that they do these audits for free. I called them and made an appointment for this afternoon, 11-2pm. I explained that we were in process of getting an EEM and needed someone to evaluate to see if we need new windows, caulking, weather stripping, or anything else that would help our home be more energy efficient. First of all, this took some juggling; we were supposed to meet our Realtor at the house at 11. I had a doctor appointment about 20 mins away, but in that general area, sceduled for 9:45. My doctor is always very fast & I'm usually in and out in about 40 mins. So, I decided that we probably could juggle my appointment and still get to the house by 11, when the John Moore tech was supposed to show up to perform the free audit. My doctor was running a little behind, so at 10:15 I called them and explained that we were running a little behind, and I didn't want the tech to be inconvenienced by having to wait on us to appear. I was told it wasn't a problem, and they gave me our "case number" or whatever it's called. Well, as we left the doctor's office, we discovered that our car was dead - so we made arrangements with our Realtor, called JM again and explained the situation, and asked about what time they were supposed to show. I was told that they always run late because they do so many of these free energy audits , and that they could show anytime between 11-2, but not to worry about rushing. I was told for perhapos the third time that they would definitely call us about 20 mins before they'd show up. So we made arrangements for a tow, and called our Realtor so that she could come pick us up at the repair place on her way to the house. I also put my phone on vibrate and max sound to be CERTAIN I didn't miss JM's call.We got to the house and took care of the several things we had already planned to do, and we waited. And waited. At 2pm, I called them yet again, explained that our EEE was supposed to have arrived between 11 and 2, but that they still hadn't called by 2. We couldn't stay very much longer because our Realtor had to be back in Houston by 3:30. The person I spoke with transferred me to dispatch. The woman I spoke to there, "Rose", I think her name is, told me that she had left me a vm the day before confirming our reservation - but that I hadn't returned the call. RETURNED THE CALL?? The message said that they were "confirming our appointment between 11 and 2 for Friday" - there was NOTHING about us having to RETURN THE D*** CALL! (I've never even heard of this). She said that they just assume that when a customer doesn't return the "confirmation", they assume that they have forgotten, and they just essentially just skip over them!! I started to get angry, and I explained that we were waiting in this unoccupied house for their bloody tech to show - and no one had bothered to let us know that they weren't even going to bother showing. THEN she announces that since we don't yet ow the house, THEY CAN'T DO AN EEI UNLESS THE SELLER CALLS THEM TO REQUEST IT!!!! OMG! EXCUSE me?? I've talked to them I think five times in the last three days - never made any bones about the fact that we are purchasing this home - even explained that we were doing so to several different employees - and NOW they suddenly decide that we can't get this done?? WTH?I started asking her exactly what she needs from the bloody seller, because this was ridiculous - I mean, WHY SCHEDULE THIS APPOINTMENT if this is their rule? She started to tell me that "John Moore has certain rules, and she is a Realtor herself..." at that point, I looked at my Realtor and handed her the phone. Apparently, Rose informed her that they could do the audit - IF we paid them $199!!!!! WHAAAT?!?!I wasted several phone calls, wasted my time being concerned that their stupid tech might be inconvenienced by us running late, waited for two hours for them to contact me or show up as agreed - and NOW they want to rook me out of $200 for something that they advertise as being free? I don't think so.I strongly advise anyone considering them to run, not walk, for the nearest exit before having ANY dealings with John Moore Services. This entire situation was deplorable and inexcusable - there really IS no excuse for being treated this way. They just missed out on a potentially decent chunk of money because of their idiocy.

We called John Moore to come out and inspect our upstairs A/C unit that had stopped working. We had used them once before and were overall pleased. The service tech they sent did not seem overly knowledgeable. After about 20 minutes he told us that the blower motor was bad and needed to be replaced. He also said the control board and quot;seemedand quot; to be functioning okay. He went out to his truck to work up and estimate. He came back in the house with his laptop and discussed the estimate he was providing. Replace blower motor $699.00 installed and replace control board $999.00. NEARLY $1700.00 in total. I questioned him about the control panel and he said that they generally go out and his recommendation was to replace it, but, he immediately took it off the estimate. I began questioning him more as I was now even more uncomfortable with his expertise and proposal. I told him that I was going to get another opinion. Today I had another company come out to fix the problem. In the end it was the CAPACITOR and it cost me $189.00. SAVED OVER $1,500.00 Called them on the phone to discuss with a manger and was not allowed to speak with one!!!! I had to submit my complaint to a customer service rep.

Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. We have reviewed the diagnostic test results of your HVAC system with the responsible technician, who inadvertently did not check the blower motor capacitor for proper microfarad readings. We believe this was an over sight on his part and we have taken all of the appropriate measures to ensure complete and high quality diagnostics are performed every time. By no means we’re we trying to upsell you any equipment that you did not need, although we made a mistake the intentions of our technician were honorable. You have used our services in the past and purchased a capacitor from our company a little over a month ago, so we hope that this one experience does not dampen your image of our company. Our technician made an honest mistake and we do apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you, but we do appreciate your feedback so that we are able to correct matters such as this one and keep it from reoccurring in the future. We certainly hope that you will give us another opportunity should your home have a service need in the future. I phoned John Moore because I was done dealing with asking unqualified friends or and quot;contractorsand quot; seemed to deal with my plumbing issues. I expected to get a high quality job at a fair but probably a bit more expensive price - wow was that an understatement! I had my kitchen sink removed recently by a contractor that was doing other work for me becuase my boyfriend didn't really want to hassle with it. The contractor was only going to charge $100 to swap it with the new sink. However I had to fire the contractor so I was left with no kitchen sink. After 4 days of no sink, I decided to call John Moore and I wanted them to come out to quote that sink replacement, a toilet issue, and price out a water softener/filter system. The bid for the sink was extremely high but I felt like I needed it done so I went ahead and signed the work order. The work was done quickly and professionally and the plumber was clean and friendly. However the price was prohibitive for me ever doing work with them again. I only paid this outrageous price because I had already taken off of work and I was fed up with waiting to have a kitchen sink. The price to replace the sink (mind you the old one had been removed already) was $499.99, to screw on the garbage disposal that I had was $199.99, to replace the drain pipes (pee trap) with new 1 1/2 PVC was $199.99 x 2. My total bill for approximately 2.5 hours of work and a few supplies was $1099.96. Ridiculous. I also want to add that I had an appointment for this work the previous evening between 5 - 8pm. I called about 3 times prior to 9pm to see if the technician was on the way. At 9:30 pm I determined it was too late to do this work so I asked to be put on the following days schedule. About 15 minutes later (as I was getting ready for bed) I got a call from the plumber who said he was outside the house. I apologized for John Moore's miscommunication to him, but told him that they had already confirmed they had moved my work order to the following morning.

I explained the problem and what I thought it might be according to the HOA's knowledge of the pipes in that location. I adked for a plumber to come as soon as they could because of the water damage. They sent someone and It cost me $99 but I agrred because I needed someone then and calling around was'nt a good idea since I need to stop the leak. When it was found that the air conditioner hose had snapped off and was causing the leak going into the house instead of out the drain pipe he recomended and called John Moores water restoration to come. they came and gave me an estimate between 800 and 1600 and I thought that included repairing the damage. It didn't and I was told that they never said that. But I was definitely under the impression they would. The drying out did not take that long but I didn't time them. I do know they only used one dryer but they charged for more. My construction person looked at their bill and said it was very high. I just wish they would advertise that they do charge for urgent calls and that they do call in their people to do the repairs unless you stop them. As a senior citizen and a lone lady, I think they took advantage of me because I wouldn't know how to coompare. My advice to any one especially seniors is to take charge or call a friend if it is possible.
Description of Work: I had a leak and the leak turned into a ceiling collapse. In order to get a plumber out right away they charged $99 so no estimate as they say on TV. Second it turned out that I needed water restoration and I was undder the impression this included repairs. When they were done drying out which took at day, I was then told that they had told me that they only dried the area. They charged $1,557.+. They I was left with a repair s to contract. I was told by three contractors that John Moores charges were exorbitant.

I was pretty happy with them. They allowed us to go and buy our own thermostat control and install it. It saved us a lot of money. No actual work was done but the thermal heating was good.
Description of Work: I have used John Moore Services for Heating and A/C work. They gave us the option of replacing our thermostat controller.

They have done other projects for me in the past but their prices are out of line. I needed the work done so I had them do it even though it was expensive. I do not want other people to use them strictly based on the fact that they are too expensive.
Description of Work: The last time they were here they did an AC repair.

The only reason we called or hired John Moore plumbing was due to the commercials we saw every morning on Houston's Channel 13 with John Moore citing their Awards of Excellence from the BBB and all the BBB advertising on their fleet of trucks. Unfortunately, we found out too late that they were NOT presently recognnized by the BBB since 2010, they have an and quot;Fand quot; rating and they were presently being pursued legally by the BBB for use of their name and logo. When we called John Moore for an upstairs bedroom water leak and related damages, they sent out a salesman, Ryan Stout and not a repairman. He looked over the problem and the water damage and signed us up for their Remediation Services and an estimate for replacing all the water pipes in the house with all sorts of false information and promises. IE: process of job, time frame of job, proof of warranties, first payment due only once job was completed and signed off on, etc.The Remediation Services never showed up that late afternoon or evening after paying a $500.00 deposit to Remediation Supervisor Daniel Friedman promising they were to be there that evening to clean up the mess from the leak. Later that evening I called Mr. Friedman and he said they would be there the next day stating that no one ever updates him of their schedules and citing too many jobs (understaffed and overworked we later discovered). After cleaning up most of the initial damages ourselves that night (wet carpet, ceiling drywall and insulation) we were still charged full rates and overcharged for the entire cleanup services per our insurance company estimate. Not to mention the stains left in the carpet from the Remediation crew. They come in with their dirty shoes on and leaky equiptment.Salesman Ryan Stout gave us an estimate for an entire house replumbing including a water heater repair (which we found out later was much higer than needed), and was ever so eager to sign us up for a loan through their service department promising charges would not be processed until the job was finalized to our satisfaction. Of course we were being billed before the job was completed and we never received our detailed warranties for the and quot;pex pipeand quot; for 25 years and and the 10 years from John Moore as promised. Sixty nine holes later in the ceilings and walls, we ended up cleaning a mess after the plumbers completed the job in 8 days work and not the 3 days promised. Forty eight hours later, we had a soaked carpet and baseboards in the master bedroom and wet damaged baseboards in the hallway half bath. After a few phone calls to John Moore, a plumber finally came out later that evening and he convinced us it was our master bath shower pan leaking even though it had not been used for over four days, he insisted that was the water problem. The plumber left and we proceeded to clean the wet carpet, remove the padding and the baseboards and we started the drying out process. The next morning we awoke to more water in the same places with additional water in the main hallway and under the stair closet and wetbar. It took John Moore two hours to get someone out (Journeyman, Roland Baldaras), to find the leak and admit it was their failed plumbing job. Mr. Baldaras and customer service promised to repair the cause of the leak and replace all damages. That alone took an additional three weeks to complete with daily phone calls from us. Meanwhile we were forced to move out of our master bedroom and live in a small guest bedroom. After many days of phone calls to John Moore for some type of compensation for the inconvenience caused by their plumbing job, I requested they provide to us in writing that they would patch all the holes from the plumbing job. Salesman, Mr. Stout tried selling us that package for $1,100.00 and the management team raised it to $2,000.00 as there were too many holes from the job and they would agree to pay $1,000.00. I insisted they pay the whole thing and they agreed, but only for patching all the holes. No texturing or painting. Both parties agreed and they sent me an email agreeing to patching all holes from the re-pipe job. After they thought the job was completed, they had to send back the plumbers again to redo the upstairs bathroom as their sheet rock guys couldn't do the sheetrock behind the toilet or shower until the the plumbing was corrected. The plumbers had placed the water pipes over the wall studs that the sheet rock need to be attached to. I proceeded to show the journeyman, Mr. Baldaras the master shower plumbing job downstairs and he stated it was incorrect and needed to be corrected to prevent a future leak. This connection was done the same way that caused the flood damage in the master bedroom, half bath, under stair closet and wetbar. Mr. Baldaras proceeded to take pictures of the master shower plumbing job and took it then to the Plumbing Manager, Joe Baney to show it was incorrect and needed to be corrected. Mr. Baney immediately took Mr. Baldaras off our job and refused to contact the plumbers to give the go ahead to correct the situation as he would have to replace the damage caused by this repair. While waiting to hear from Mr. Baney, the plumbers proceeded to cut more holes in the master bathroom and bedroom to try to reroute the pipes for the shower. In the master bedroom they cut another large hole in the wall to reroute the shower pipes and could not get past the 2nd floor support beam. Therefore, now they would have to remove a row of tiles from the shower stall and reroute the pipes. They would not do that until they heard from Mr. Baney. They packed up their tools and left never correcting the master shower plumbing. It took me quite some time and maneuvering to get through to Mr. Baney's office but I finally got through to his answering machine and I left a lengthly message requesting him to call me back to discuss the situation and the remedy. Mr. Baney never returned my call. The plumbers mentioned to me on their way out the door that due to the leak, they were not being paid for the eight days work at my home, or the 2 half days of repairs. They were even being held responsible for paying the journeyman $400.00 for his eight hours of involvement. What kind of company is this that treats their employee's like this? No one can afford to go without pay and make ends meet in todays economy! We called the the salesman, Ryan Stout and informed him that the job had not been corrected or completed to our satisfaction and that the plumbers had walked off the job. Therefore, we did not want them back on our property. He did not offer a solution or resolution. We requested again from him for our detailed warranty's on the and quot;pex pipeand quot; and John Moore's warranty. He said he would get it to us the next day. It took a few more days of threatening phone calls for him to provide us with a vague, almost handwritten note, few lined warranty without a date on it, our names or our address and it wasn't signed by any officer of the company. It's useless! This company has no Pride or Concern for Customer Service, Quality of Workmanship or their employees. NO MORE JOHN MOORE!!!

Extremely polite, professional employees. Very responsive on the phone. The trouble is that they just couldn't figure out what was wrong with our A/C and ended up sending out FIVE different HVAC repairmen over EIGHT days. Each repairman who showed up was uninformed about what the previous repairmen had done -- and mostly assumed he was the first to arrive at the scene! I ended up spending seven full days around the house while repairmen tinkered in the back, made pronouncements about what was wrong, then failed to fix the problem. Ultimately, after I complained, the company sent their most senior repairman who, after four hours of hard work, solved the problem. Again: this might be a great company. And it might be that our AC problem was unusually complicated. And, to their credit, they stopped charging me after the first day, each time coming back to fix the problem on their dime. And EVERY employee was courteous and clearly doing his best. But they need to come up with a better way of communicating within the company, so when a problem like this arises, repairmen can come to the home knowing what's been tried, what hasn't been tried, etc.
Description of Work: Our AC died. They replaced the compressor (which was under warranty) twice. They replaced the contactors and the capacitor. They also did all kinds of other things trying to solve the problem.
