It was a nightmare that ended when a John Moore plumber ran a camera through the line under my house, told me a pipe had a crack and two pipes were separating, and gave me a repair estimate of $26,399.56. This plumber also told me that John Moore could finance the repair for me. Please note, all the plumbers that I worked with were very professional and did clean up well after they completed their work.
Description of Work: It took four plumbers and one month to try to resolve the backing up of my two downstirs toilets. I purchased expensive new toilets from John Moore and had a camera run through the line under my house. The problem is still nhot fixed, and John Moore Plumbing does not guarantee their services.

It was fine. They came about 9AM and left around 9PM. They left the hatch open, and a few minor things, but they did a great job.

The service provided was usually just fine with no worries. The technicians were professional and careful around the home. After one treatment in the yard later in the year, many geckoes died from the spray. Either the pest control method or the solution was then changed, and our geckoes returned after a while. Service continued in a professional manner for over a year. Our contract expired after one year, but we continued on a quarterly basis. After about a year and a half of satisfactory service, the difficulties started. The technician, a different technician by now, had usually, but not always called before he/she arrived for the appointment time, but mostly they did. When the technician suddenly showed up without an appointment, without speaking to us first, that was when my husband and I decided we wanted to change companies. Once we told John Moore representatives that we no longer would need their service, they started calling repeatedly saying they wanted to do the pest control for us. I always told them, thanks, but we no longer would need the services of John Moore. One day a technician showed up unannounced to spray our property. He had been told we were on the schedule he was given. He had driven all the way from the opposite side of town just to come to our home, he said. Not only that, he said we were the third customer that day to tell him they had canceled their service with John Moore. Numerous, repeated telephone calls preceded this and several after from John Moore to maintain us as a customer. I always told them the same thing. During the last two calls from John Moore, which were probably in the last month and a half, I told the representative to please take us off his list of customers. I hope this issue has finally been resolved. We now have a local company doing our pest control for about 45% less with good results so far. Too bad. John Moore had the BBB approval rating, too.

Once the wall was opened, I was quoted between $1,200.00 and $1,400.00 to replace the shower valve because it was deemed un-fixable due to the age of the valve. The pipes are galvanized, so I expected to pay a little extra, but not over a grand more. The valve was a normal shower valve, that can be bought at Home Depot for under $100.00, was going to cost me $500.00 from the plumber. When I told him I could not afford a new vaulve at his price, I asked him to just plug the line so it could be fixed at a later date. He then charged me $399.00 to do this. Wow, almost four hundred bucks for under well 2 hours of work. The problem is not fixed. The shower is useable. I am now going to call another plumber to come out from Angie's List, this time, to finish the job at a reasonable price.
Description of Work: The shower had a constant drip due to a calcified valve.

They were supposed to come between 5 and 8. I called them after 8:30 and they said that person's truck broke down. I was very disappointed that they could not return a phone call that they were not going to be able to come. I have not gotten an apology. Overall I was very unhappy with the situation.

I was very pleased with their level of professionalism, their knowledge, and their work ethic. They seem to be committed to doing their very best, no skipping corners. Although it was a very long day the crew never appeared tired, overworked or hurried. I would definitely recommend this company.
Description of Work: Purchased new furnace and new a/c unit which included vent cleaning. The crew was here for 10 hours, removing the old equipment, and installing the new furnace and a/c unit. They worked diligently and professionally and cleaned up when they were done.

I have 3 GFCI outlets without power, so I had John Moore come to my home since they advertise free estimates. When the technician arrived (he arrived at 12:30 during the 11-2p timeslot and provided a and quot;5-mile awayand quot; courtesy call), I explained the problem. The technician first checked the breaker for issues (I had already done this, takes about 5 minutes). When finished, he explained there are no issues with the box, but that it is and quot;datedand quot; and needs to be replaced. He then explained I need to pay $199 for the and quot;single circuit restorationand quot; in order for him determine the problem. The technician could not explain why I needed to pay $199 even though his company advertises free estimates. He also could not explain what the single circuit restoration includes. He claimed minor repairs are included (believable since and quot;restorationand quot; implies repair), but refused to give examples of minor repairs. I asked him if a cut-wire is a minor repair, and he said no. I asked him how he determines the cost of repairs and he said he said he can't unless he diagnoses the problem. After about 5 minutes of effectively useless Qand A, I asked for written information regarding the single circuit restoration. He retrieved his laptop and pulled-up some John Moore information that appeared to be instructions/guidance for the technician. The technician pointed me to a paragraph which stated the technician should advise the homeowner that the service is a diagnostic service that does not include repairs. I asked why he told me minor repairs are included. He said it was technician discretion. This was when I told him I did not want to pay $199 without a guarantee of repair. The technician informed me that he and quot;have other customersand quot; and abruptly left. In summary, I would describe the technician as uninformative, misleading, and rude. The company itself falsely advertises free estimates. I will not use John Moore services.

Do not ever call John Moore for anything. They have a very large advertising budget and they don't care how they pay for it.
Description of Work: My son's garbage disposal was jammed and he called John Moore. The plumber came, looked, said it would be $80 for a new disposal and $300 to install. Happily my son thought this was too much. He called me and I went over, turned it backward, reset the button and there is nothing wrong with the disposal. It is criminal that these people take advantage of the young and old people.

Church services fixed the problem from within the bathroom. That took half a day and cost much less. I don't doubt that a nine-foot tunnel would be expensive, but it wasn't necessary. Church Services did a great job quickly and saved me nearly $8000. I did get a call from John Moore after I cancelled trying to resolve any concerns I had. John Moore was certain I needed the tunnel and the big bill.
Description of Work: A commode separated from underground sewer lines, breaking the lead pipe from the brass underneath. There was also a gap between the brass and the cast iron pipe underneath. The representative from John Moore told us that the plumber could not access the pipes from within the bathroom and a nine-foot tunnel from outside was required. Cost would be $9100 and take several days. I got a second opinion from Church Services and canceled work with John Moore.

The crew were unprofessional, didn't speak English very well, unwilling to to the job thoroughly, unsupervised and left a mess. The crew arrived and surveyed the house and complained it would difficult to bring the big ladder in as the vaulted ceilings were high. They started to move the sofa to make space for the ladder by dragging the sofa across the hardwood floor. I complained that they would scratch the floor by dragging the sofa and suggested they use two moving dollies to move the couch which I had nearby. They replied that it was not their job to move furniture. To this I replied that they should leave and refund my $1350 deposit if they were not prepared to do the job fully. They went out front and sat in their truck and called their supervisor. The salesman showed up within minutes and helped me lift the sofa onto the moving dollies. The crew resumed work. They did a fair job of cleaning the ducts but put down drop cloths sloppily and much of the debris wound upon the floor and carpet. When the crew left they did poor job of cleaning up. They left dirty handprints on the ceiling around almost every duct and much chipped paint around the ducts where they removed them. They left a lot of cleaning debris on the floor. I would not recommend John Moore for duct cleaning

First call, sewer backed up, they removed the toilet to run a snake through the line. $400. Second call, backed up again, this time bathtub and toilet, said they needed to fix something in the drain of the bathtub, and we had them replace our knobs in the tub, $2000 Third call three days later stopped up again, customer relations man came out, unstopped sewer, no charge. Fourth call, stopped up again, sent plumber at 9 pm who tried to blame the problems on old pipes, bathtub working on shower only. I will never call this company again.
Description of Work: Turns out all we needed was the sewer line unstopped, but these guys milked us for 3 visits and unneeded repairs. Don't even think about calling these guys

We leased a house (a very nice house) that had been vacant for a short period of time...but long enough for rats to get into it. Kitchen -- rats were killed in traps on the floor and on the cooktop counter Garage -- rats were killed in traps; rats were using breezeway connection to get into the house The landlord had John Moore come out and assess the situation and provide a Quotation for the work to be done. John Moore's inspector promised that all entry points would be blocked off and that the house would be disinfected. When questioned for details he said that the cabinets and floors would be wiped down with disinfectant. We questioned the technician, when he arrived 3 days later, about what he was going to do to clean the house. He had no intention of wiping down the floor or the cabinets. He was also supposed to clean/vacuum the rat droppings out of 2 different attic areas and from the carpet below the overhead attic door. He was not prepared to this either. In fact, he said he would clean up the rat droppings on the carpet if I provided a dust pan and broom for him to clean them up. Seriously! on carpet! seriously! I got fed up and vacuumed up the droppings on the carpet while the technician was doing the exterior exclusion work. I also vacuumed out the worst of the droppings in walk-in attic. When they were finished there was no difference in the attic...they did not clean up all of the droppings. I went back and vacuumed up more after they left. I would never use these guys for anything else. They are a joke.
Description of Work: First a factual note: The landlord paid for this service but had me monitoring things because he lives hundreds of miles away. The technician blocked all (yet to be confirmed by the results) of the rodent entry points to the house. They were supposed to block all entry points on the semi-attached garage. There was a huge gap left under the side entry door. Also gaps remain under the siding where the garage walls meet the concrete footer (daylight is visible). They disinfected the internal atmosphere of the house and the HVAC system with DSV fog. They were supposed to clean the cabinets with disinfectant by physically wiping them down. Instead, they only wiped them down with damp (non-disinfecting) wipes. They were supposed to wipe down the floors with disinfectant...they did not. There was debris on the floor when they were done, including at least one dead roach and 2 or 3 rat droppings by the laundry room door.

I originally called to schedule an assessment for a water filter installation and air duct cleaning. In addition to the water filter installation, I had a funny smell coming from my downstairs bathroom and could not distinguish where it was coming from. I called John Moore on a Thursday and requested an appointment as soon as possible; I was then informed that the installation and air duct cleaning would have to be scheduled separately since they are two different service departments. The ventilation tech wasn't going to be available for a week but the filter installation could be scheduled for the next day (Friday). I agreed to the time slot of 2pm-5pm and received a confirmation phone call Friday morning at 11:30. I was informed that the technician would give me a call when they were 30 minutes away. I did not receive the call from the technician until 4:45. I was disappointed that they weren't going to make it before 5pm and rescheduled the appointment for Monday during their available time slot of 11am-2pm. I was called at 10:30 to confirm the appointment and then called again by the technician at 12:30 to let me know he'd be here by 1pm. He was outside at 12:59! When he came in, I explained the issue with the smell and he did not have a solution for the problem. He did, however, make sure that the drains were up to par as well as the sealing around the toilet. The water filter installation went very smooth. He was very understanding when it came to pleasing us aesthetically and had the water filter installed in about 2 hours. He kept a neat work space and even wiped down the counters after he was finished. Even though the price was a little bit more than we were expecting, the job was well done and well worth it!
Description of Work: John Moore installed a water filter/purifier into the kitchen sink. The job took about 2 hours to complete.

I called four companies to provide estimates for heating/A/C replacement. The other 3 companies were within $600 of each other. John Moore's estimate was literally $5000 higher. When the and quot;comfort specialistand quot; saw my incredulous look he arbitrarily started handwriting lower numbers. This capped off a hideous experience in which this guy spent over an hour and a half giving me the used-car salesman treatment. As an example of the craziness, he tried to tell me that a 12' long 4and quot; diameter vent was a $600 value (another guy told me prob $30-$45 max at Lowe's). He spent a great deal of the time telling me what the and quot;other guysand quot; would do and why that would be clearly inferior. I had a 4-ton unit and asked for two quotes: 1) replace only A/C with another 4-ton unit or 2) replace both furnace and A/C with 5-ton. He never gave me the 4-ton quote, instead giving me a quote for replacement with a 5-ton A/C (which since I had a 4-ton furnace my research and other techs told me was not a good idea) and then 7 other quotes. He complained repeatedly about getting debris from my attic on his shirt and in his hair. With regard to the punctuality rating, they called me during the day to see if the service person could come earlier. He finally called near the end of the original planned service window saying he was 20 mins away, and showed up almost an hour later. This was the WORST service experience I have ever had.
Description of Work: Planned either 1) replacement of 4-ton A/C unit or 2) replacement of entire A/C and furnace unit with 5-ton unit.

GREAT JOB!!!! SMOOTH FROM START TO FINISH!!!!
Description of Work: Did a complete re-pipe of our home. The old piping was corroded inside to the point we had very little flow. I called John Moore and requested to have John Daniels come out and gave us an estimate. John had estimated our neighbor's job and she was absolutely satisfied with the work. I requested John Daniels use the same crew do our work that did our neighbors so he arranged it. We set a start date but they were running behind finishing the job they were on. Theycommunicated well and let us know they were behind so we adjusted our schedule. They started the next day and the work went as planned. Only without water for about 4 hours on the second day. They did a great job, clean and professional. I would not hesitate to use these guys again.

Thank you for being the best part of John Moore. We value all of our customers and quality is is our number one priority. There are several factors to consider when using using a home repair service company: Can I trust the technician that will do the work? How long has the company been in business? Does the service company warranty their service and products? And the list goes on. For all of the above conditions, John Moore cannot be a low cost provider. I had previously used this company about 2 years ago for a plumbing repair and was satisfied with the work so I called them again for a quote when our water heater went out. The quote I received was more than twice the cost of 2 other companies I had also contacted and it took over an hour for them to work up the numbers. I also found out after the fact some of the information they gave me about building code/water heater requirements for my location (un-incorporated Harris county) was in error. I selected another company to replace our water heater and had the job completed satisfactorily for less than half of this company's quote.
