Whatever I need, I will call them first before anybody else. They were wonderful. I had another air conditioner company a few years ago and I called them first because they had worked with it before. They came in and it was a disaster, so I called John Moore Services. The guy came out and told me what was going on with it. They were very nice. I told them I just couldn't afford that and they took their time to check with other people in the company to see what they could do for me. They were just incredible and they also put me in a lower payment, so that I could manage the cost. I cannot say enough how wonderful they were. They were working on getting the parts I needed for a better price and they made sure that all my vents were clean. That was not part of it. I would use them for everything I can. They went above and beyond.
Description of Work: I have used John Moore Services when my air conditioner went out.

We've used John Moore twice. They are a large local service company here in Houston. They don't usually come on time and their communication is fairly bad. Overall, we've had a pretty bad customer experience with them. The first time, we used them to repair a leaking toilet due to it not being properly re-seated after the floor was changes (by another provider). The guy from John Moore fixed the problem, but the person who came was trying to drum up personal business. The second time was for mold removal. We had a weird case with the mold removal, but they didn't seem very competent. We got our insurance adjuster (from Liberty Mutual) to help diagnose the problem, and he seemed more competent with the problem than the people from John Moore, so we asked them to stop their work. The mold removal business is more something to work the insurance companies, as we found out, so it was more expensive than it should have been. They did remove all of the mold-damaged materials, though.

Took them weeks after we had given them the money up front for them to even start, it ended up taking them 3 weeks longer than they originally said it would. They put a hole in one of my walls and repaired it but never matched the paint so the whole wall needs to be repainted. The quality of the work was very poor the shower heads jiggle and neither toilet is bolted to the floor, they just lined them up with the pipes and never bothered to screw them in. They knocked out some tile when putting the tub in and instead of replacing it they filled it with caulk, I have an entire tile in my bathroom made of caulk, no joke they took the time to sculpt a tile out of caulk and used it instead of driving to the store to get another one, that's what you can expect from John Moore.

Fine, until we tried to have John Moore come out to inspect the work 2 years into the 10 year guarantee. We are seeing a build up of water around the foundation of house, asked John Moore to inspect, on at least 4 occasions that never showed up. On one occasion they wanted to charge a 299.99 service call fee. Ridiculous. Company simply does not want to back up their work... awful Customer Services. Will us someone else in the future. I will also file a complaint with the BBB.

Issues: 1) raising service price without notification 2) poor customer service Extermination service was performed on July 15, 2013, with an attempt to raise to the price. After discussing this with the technician, the original price was honored and assurance of no increase for services was given. In August, I received a bill for the difference between the original amount and the price increase. I attempted, over 2 weeks, to contact the billing office, with no reply. I mailed the bill, with a copy of the paid invoice given by the technician, and a note that stated and quot;Paid in Fulland quot;. I never heard back from them. In early October, I received a call to schedule services. I talked with the manager, listing my concerns with the price increase and poor customer service. He guaranteed that the price would not increase and apologized for the poor customer service. I told him to give me time to consider whether I wanted to continue services or not. Since then, another technician has come to my house twice, without scheduling an appointment, and leaving messages for me to call and schedule an appointment. I received a duplicate bill, last week, for July's extermination services. I was able to reach someone at the billing office today and, after calling back 2 more times (they did not call back as promised), was told that the service price had gone up and I owed the additional amount. I cancelled the service, stating that I didn't want anyone to call me back. I received 3 calls this afternoon from this company.

I received two competing bids, for the exact same job. One bid came in at $1,250.00 and the lowest bid came in at $850.00. The company I went with was the lowest bidder and is an 'A' rated company by Angie customers, and they did a great job. Two lessons. (1) use Angie's List, and (2) get a second and third bid. I saved $2,150.00 not going with John Moore.

I was very frustrated with my encounter with them. The service technician went outside to call to get pricing and didn't return for 50 minutes. In the time being, I called the company myself and requested they call their technician and tell him I did not need his service due to his lack of response. He was just outside my house in his truck. He couldn't even do the work in the bathroom because he didn't have the correct equipment.

Exceptional. A previous company (ARS) had given us an estimate of $57,000 (YES, I SAID FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLARS)!!! saying that all of our under slab plumbing was and quot;saggingand quot; and needed to be completely replaced or we would face and quot;dire consequencesand quot; in the future. Luckily my brother is in the building industry and recommended we call John Moore because he had good experiences with them in the past. Thanks God. John Moore showed us (on camera) everything we needed to see as NORMAL sloshing of water in the pipes under the slab, etc. I tried everything I could to get a resolution with this creep from ARS who tried to scam us but apparently they were having some kind of sales contest or something and nothing ever happened. It is horrific to think that some older person or someone who didn't have other resources might have fallen for this kind of scam!! Horrible. I am so grateful for John Moore for coming in and taking so much time to show us every NOOK AND CRANNY of our plumbing. He showed us everything on that camera that he could possibly show us. He was so patient and kind and reassured us that we didn't need to do anything except keep our drains clean. All for only $200.00. And believe me, he was there for a very long time. I would highly recommend John Moore.

He came out every month since April and I still have bed bugs. I recently called him to come back out and spray again, but said it would cost another $1200 because my warranty was up. Last night I had to get out of my bed and sleep in my recliner because the bed bugs were so bad. The bed bugs keep coming back and this problem was never fixed in the first place.

John Moore Company set up an appointment time to come out and provide an estimate for a major home renovation job. Like most folks, my time at my place of employment as a corpoate attorney is very valuable and important. I took a day off of work to meet the company represenative at my home for a scheduled appointment within a time frame between 8am and 11am, however, with the promise that the rep would arrive early (between 8 and 9) to accommodate my schedule. What happened after that is still extremely hard for me to believe, but it did happen exactly as I am about to describe it. Around 9:30am, after no one showed up or even called me to let me know anything (well past my promised time frame), I called the same number that I previously called to set up the appointment. I was immediately told that it was inconvenient for me to call that number because it took up that person's time while he could be making other appointments, so I would have to call another number. Really? Are you kidding me? Well, after being persistent, he finally told me he would pass along my concerns about no one showing up and would connect me to a supervisor in the renovations department. A short time later, around 10:00am, the field rep called who was scheduled to be at my home giving me an estimate. He made several excuses as to why he wasn't there, but then stated he simply couldn't make it by 11:00am, even though I told him he was supposed to be there between 8 and 9. Making matters worse, he showed no concern for my schedule, the fact that I took time off of my job, and that he was late.... in a nutshell, HE DIDN'T CARE AT ALL about the customer, only about himself! I then called back to the main number, and asked to speak to an owner, a manager or a supervisor. After being place on hold for quite some time, the person answering my call came back on the line and told me that all the managers and supoervisors were in a meeting and someone would call me back later. When I asked how long, I was told that there was no way to tell how long. How rude can this get?? Well, finally a purported and quot;supervisorand quot; named Stephanie called me back around 11:30am, considerably past my and quot;appointment windowand quot; which is nothing more than a way of telling the customer that they, and their time, is much more important and valuable that me, and my time!! Really folks, whatever happened to good old and quot;customer serviceand quot; where a company actually services the customer?? Well, all I got from Stephanie was a little pre-programed spill on how great John Moore Company was and that it had been in business 50 years and so that therefore, they and quot;must be doing something rightand quot;!! Seriously, did this poor excuse for a and quot;supervisorand quot; actually say that to me? This lady, and quot;Stephanieand quot; (I want to be sure everyone that reads this gets her name right), could NOT have been more uncaring, unprofessional, self centered, egotisitcal and rude than she was on the phone with me that day. She obviously has ZERO concept of what customer service and a solid customer base is! Well, I do, its your company's life blood Stephanie, your customers are your company's source of income, which in turn directly results in the payment of your salary! It soon became quite clear that my $55,000 renovation job (which was awarded to another contractor, by the way) was not significant enough for John Moore Company, as implied by Ms Stephanie who boasted about the and quot;wondermentand quot; of her company, but displayed absolutely nothing to back up her words. Well, to the owners of John Moore Company, if Stephanie and the representative that and quot;did not show upand quot; for his appointment represents the public image that John Moore wants to project, then your company will certainly not see another 50 years of business. If I could get just one word of advice into the ears of the owners, it would be simply this (but I'm certain no one there cares enough to even read this)...... oh well, here it is anyway..... and quot;DO NOT FORGET WHAT SUSTAINED YOUR BUSINESS FOR YOUR BOASTFUL 50 YEARS, IT IS MOST DEFINITELY YOUR CUSTOMERS AND HOW THEY PERCEIVE YOU! IF YOUR COMPANY COMPANY IS SO SUCCESSFUL AND WONDERFUL, AS IMPLIED BY YOUR MS STEPHANIE, THEN YOU HAVE OBVIOUSLY LET IT GO TO YOUR HEAD AND HAVE FORGOTTEN ONE SIMPLE THING (AND I QUOTE THE LATE GREAT DARREL ROYAL FROM MY ALMA MATER IN AUSTIN).... and quot;DON'T FORGET TO DANCE WITH THE ONE WHO BRUNG YOU!and quot; IN THE EVENT THAT THIS IS SINKING IN SLOWLY, YOUR and quot;DANCE PARTNERand quot; IS YOUR CUSTOMER, ALWAYS HAS BEEN, ALWAYS WILL BE!! I HAVE NO FURTHER ENERGY OR INTEREST TO WASTE ADDITIONAL TIME ON JOHN MOORE COMPANY, OTHER THAN TO LET EVERYONE THAT READS THIS KNOW, INCLUDING THOSE AT MY COMMUNITY BOARD MEETINGS, MY LITTLE LEAGUE BOARD MEETINGS, MY CHURCH, AND MY CHILDREN'S SCHOOL PTO MEETINGS, PRECISELY HOW MY EXPERIENCE WITH JOHN MOORE COMPANY WENT THAT DAY ON THURSDAY, AUGUST 29, 2013.

This went about as well as could have been expected given the age of my house (43 years old), and the vagarities of plumbing. They did have to come back out and fix a leak in the new plumbing that ruined my dining room ceiling, but they fixed that at no cost to me. Also had to come back out to address the A/C drain as the first fix was not 100% successful, but they came right back out, fixed it for good this time, and paid for the repair of the ceiling and repaint at no cost to me. Good folks.

Recommended that I also add a new circuit box and would not install without one. Recommended that I install a whole house surge protection device and their bid was way over priced compared to the vendor that I ended up using. I just needed a new buried line, not everything else. We called them the evening before at 7:00 PM. They couldn't get a tech out until the next day at 2:00 PM. So much for them living up to their advertised promise to bring a temp cooling unit out in the evening! I was out of town. The outside temp reached near 100and deg; the next day. My wife and young son were forced to wait in upwards of 97and deg; heat until the tech could arrive. My wife received the quote from the tech...$670 to simply replace the starter kit and capacitor. These two parts at retail should be approx $60 combined. It took the tech about 30 minutes to finish the work. I spoke with the tech over the phone and asked him to provide a breakdown of parts and labor since I felt the costs were outrageous. He refused. He told me he could remove the parts and leave if I didn't want to pay that much. He held all the cards...no way I was going to let my family suffer in that heat! Beware of this company and their crooked practices! What company doesn't provide a breakdown of parts and labor?

First of all, I have used John Moore for a variety of services for going on 20 years now. At times I've been very satisfied, but recently I've developed significant concerns. 1.) Three years ago they replaced my outside unit. 2.) One year ago they replaced my condensor. Notwithstanding #1 and #2 above, when I called them for A/C servicing due to the system not holding the assigned temperature they attempted to charge me over $9,000 for complete replavcement of the A/C system, PLUS replacement of a heater I didn't even ask them to evaluate - much less replace. I understand the concept of cross selling, but in my opinion it is unprofessional for a service supplier to expand a customer's repair request when they know full well that significant componenets of the system - recommended and suppied by them - are less than three years old! It induced me to seek alternate service providers through Angie's list.

We called on a Friday evening to get an appointment for an estimate to have an outlet installed. We were expecting to have to wait a few days, so we were surprised when they said someone would be out the next day (Saturday). We were given a three hour window, and told someone would call when the electrician was on his way. We received a call the next day within the window, and told that the technician was in our area. We waited over two hours, and no one came. When we called to inquire about when to expect the technician, they could not find our information or our appointment. After waiting on hold for a while, someone finally came to the phone and said that they were running behind, so they passed over our appointment since it was an estimate. She apologized, and said she could try to have someone come that NIGHT, but we declined, We had already been waiting around all day, and had no confidence that they would actually keep another appointment time. We are very disappointed, and feel like they wasted our time.

Everything is working now but I originally talked to him about permitting and he said that we didn't have to worry about it because of our zip code and blah, blah, blah. Of course when they were here, we got a cease and do not continue order from the City of Katy because they were doing plumbing. The City of Katy requires permits for everything. I believe they were trying to get away with not having to go through the permit process. The problem is they replaced it with PEX piping which is not allowed in the City of Katy. Although, PEX is probably a better choice they didn't clear it with the city. Right now, they have six months to get it squared away. We can actually get a variance type of thing and John Moore is supposed to be handling that. I have a funny feeling that they are not really handling it. I've used them before. This is the first time that they've really screwed it up. We thought everything was Copper tubing originally and there was never any mention of PEX piping. They did have to do some cutting into the walls and they told us we would have to pay additional for them to close it up but we elected not to do that because we are going to do some additional work. They said it would take 2 1/2 days and that is what it took. We didn't compare their prices. They didn't give us an estimate or invoice on John Moore letterhead. Our mistake, but we had used them before for drains and things like that. We would probably not use them for any major work.

Dear Customer, The City of Katy has very recently approved the use of certain types of PEX piping. The type of PEX piping used by John Moore Services IS on their approved list. Per their instruction, we have opened a new permit for the work performed at your home. (Permit # 1301288). We have also provided information about the PEX that we used in your home to verify to them that it is the type included on their approved list. Our understanding is that the City will NOT need to reinspect the work. Rather, they will mark the inspection passed once they have a chance to review the documentation we provided detailing the type of PEX we used in your home. We will continue to monitor this situation to make sure that the inspection is passed. If there is anything else that we can do for you, please let us know.

After they put the air handler in the attic, they broke the ladder leading up. The first day they were to replace the ladder, they were a no-show. Second time they showed. After several days with the new A/C, I noticed peeling paint on my newly painted ceiling. A look in the attic showed the evaporator pan was installed incorrectly and was too small for the unit. It was leaking. Next visit, they replaced the evap. pan, but the primary and secondary drain lines were draining uphill! Next visit was and quot;...almost a complete installation.and quot; Upon inspection the air handler was lopsided and drain valves were still going uphill. Next visit, they replaced the sheetrock and repainted the ceiling. Next visit was...... It took them NINE visits to get my unit installed. Plus, I had to be here the whole time, which added up to 47 hours of lost time (and I'm not counting the original installation time). I really do not want them back in my house, but I have asked for a minimum of a two-year service contract as some sort of compensation for my time and frustration. I am waiting for a written contract to that effect.
Description of Work: Replaced the compressor and air handler. I had just returned from overseas to find the A/C was out. The house was 89 . The only recommendation from the salesman was for a Trane system, which I now know is the most expensive. Carrier, Amana, Lennox, etc. were not suggested as an option. I was jet lagged and hot, so I said okay.

Unit compressor failed July 18. Quickly came out and over several hours finally decided what they could sell me as a replacement unit for quick install. Problem was the offered and I accepted a good replacement, and after I agreed, they came back with a price that went from 5200 to 10700 dollars. So I then negotiated a much lower quality unit to be installed next day. at 6000. Woke up next morning and found quotes for a better replacement, higher quality and higher seer for same price. Tech was inexperienced, office person wasn't particularly competent. My advice...John Moore needs to stick to plumbing and spend more time on educating his folks, and less on selling upgrades during a routine maintenance call. Do NOT agree to anything at 1am no matter how hot it is.
Description of Work: Serviced unit February and sold me on a $1600 upgrade on starter systems for AC units

The work was fine. No complaint. But it was really expensive. To have the toilet tank mechanism replaced, which you can buy at a hardware store for $25.00 cost over $200.00. This fits with what most people seem to think about John Moore. Good quality work, but at the absolute top end in terms of cost.

It was a long repair and it was done satisfactorily. They were top class across the board. They always call beforehand. If they are going to be late, they will let you know. When he left, the only thing left to do, was some touch up paint.
Description of Work: I used John Moore Services for remodeling. I usually use him for plumbing. I have used him twice. Once to replace a bathroom valve and once to re-plumb a sink. I used them a couple of weeks ago to replace a valve for a shower. I had to take the wall out and put it back.
