My old friend's brother works for John Moore as an electrician and they came to mind as plumbers as well since a guy in my National Guard unit was a plumber for them years ago... So they quote us $1350 to install a gas hookup which only consisted of about 2 feet of pipe, a pipe T, and elbow, and a valve. The gas meter is immediately opposite the outside the wall where the range is located, but the cheap skate builders didn't put the gas hookup in. We also asked out of curiosity how much it would cost to run a gas line about 20-25 feet straight from the meter to the backyard. The kitchen and breakfast area on that same corner of the house where we wanted it ran back from, so it was maybe 15 feet from meter to the corner of the house, then another 5 feet...they quoted us $5000!!! I felt both quotes were WAY more than they should have been. I tried to research it online and I was reading it would be $250-350 for the gas hookup so I wanted more quotes. I called the plumber to get clarification since my wife was home for the quote visit. I asked him why it cost so much and he went on about how many homes in Harris County that had blown up due to gas leaks, and how is a Master Plumber...from what I understand, you have to be a licensed plumber to do this type of work anyhow right? Essentially he gave me a run around and had no valid reason for his inflated quote. I ended up getting A+ Castle out to quote the same work and the gas hookup was quoted at $750 and the gas line to back yard was quoted at $1700. So the gas hookup was 45% cheaper and plumbing to back yard was about 76% cheaper. Please get multiple quotes for your work folks! I also had A+ Castle do the work and have a separate review for that.
Description of Work: Quoted the installation of gas hookup for range and to pipe gas to back yard for future outdoor kitchen.

I received 3 quotes and John Moore was less expensive by $2,000. My finances were tight and I was doing a whole home renovation. I knew John Moore was not going to be the most professional but I was pulling a permit. Anyway the quote was fairly childish, all it said was "whole home electrical replacement at $7000", the other quotes I received had all the everything itemized and they even estimated the amount of electrical cable needed. But their quotes were $9,000 and $10,000. Anyway, John Moore promised 5 days for the work and they completed in 7 days. The electrician did all the work by himself and I think he refused to bring a helper so he could keep more of the money. I was having drywall put up on the 6th and 7th day and they had to work around the electrician. In fact he had even cost me money when the drywaller's had to repair some holes he drilled to find his cables, that cost me an extra $100. Another issue was that I specifically asked him to pull out all the old cable and instead he ran the new wire alongside, I had to call his supervisor and send pics to force him to remove the old cables. Then on day 3 the electrician told me he had to replace the meter at an extra $1500, this was not part of the quote, but he refused to reconnect my new electrical panel to the old meter and no amount of calls to the supervisor would make he reconnect my power, something to do with code violations they could not see before they started. I had no extra money to switch companies mid job I had already paid 1/2 upfront, so I told him go ahead. After he put in a new meter he asked for the money and his sales order was for $2,000, he said this was because he could not get the $1,500 unit on short notice. This I refused to pay and he kept going down in price, I still refused and had to call his supervisor again and they eventually sold me the meter at $1,500. So this brought up the total to $8500, still lower than the other 2 quotes and they did not quote a meter either. After the job was completed I had to get 5 return service calls for tripping breakers. John Moore did respond either same day or within 24 hours, I can't fault them for their response time. All tripping breakers were repaired and I got a free whole home surge protector for my troubles. I think John Moore is good for large jobs, the project will get completed by code and they do guarantee their work. For small jobs they are a no go. I decided to call them out to replace my garage light fixtures before I rented the home, I had 3, they quoted $900 for labor and I had to buy my own fixtures. I did the job myself, it took me 4 hours and all I had to do was watch a youtube video. So to sum up, great for large jobs, not a good deal for small jobs. But if I had $10,000 at the beginning of my reno, I would have gone with one of the higher quotes, they seem much more professional.

They told me that they had rewired the outlet and that made the circuit come back to life. They were there for about 20 minutes. For that small amount of work, a $500 charge seemed exorbitant. But the story gets worse. A few days later the problem reoccurred. I called a different electrician hoping for a better price. This new electrician discovered that the outlet was a GFCI outlet which had tripped. All he had to do was push the reset button and the circuit came back to life. At that point all he was going to charge me was the service charge of about $70. I then asked him to replace the outlet with a standard outlet since I did not want our refrigerator on a GFCI outlet. He only charged $99 for that piece of work. So - I think the John Moore people grossly overcharged me. And I suspect but cannot prove that they did not tell me truth about the service they provided. I filed a complaint with John Moore, asking for a refund. they responded by saying that since I had not given them a chance to review the work their people had done and, instead, called out a different electrician, they could only give me a coupon for the next job they did for me. Since I fee their prices are ridiculous, I have no intention of ever using them again, so their offer of a coupon was worthless.
Description of Work: A circuit that supplied power to my refrigerator had quit but the breaker had not tripped. So I called them to come figure it out and fix it.

John Moore has been okay but they're pricey. He's local to me. Once I've found another company, I've stopped using John Moore. They charge too much. Before I could actually get a repairman to help, I had to have some guy come out and give me an estimate. His estimation was to replace the AC unit which was several thousands of dollars. He was expensive. I didn't realize until later how expensive he was. I no longer use them for anything. The work they did was fine. The technician was extremely professional.
Description of Work: I have used John Moore Services. We have dual AC units and John Moore came out and repaired only one. They replaced a capacitor. It was for the air conditioning unit. I have used John Moore for plumbing.

Don't be lured in by John Moore's advertised $69 drain clean special! Ask lots of questions. Ask why your job would not be eligible for the $69 price. I thought mine was, but I was wrong! Please note, the John Moore bill I received is not itemized for these services. I only have a total of $178.69. The drain clean was approximately $129, the Plumber's Formula 5 was approximately $50. There was no trip or service call charge. John Moore has been advertising a $69 drain clean special on TV. Their website also notes the $69 drain clean special. Online, the only detail it says is, and quot; The drain must be clean-out accessible.and quot; I've been paying significantly more for clearing drains from our regular plumber and all our drains are clean-out accessible, so I decided to try John Moore. I scheduled over the phone on a Saturday for Tuesday service between 8-12. John Moore called Monday night to confirm Tuesday morning appointment. He told me the service person would call before he arrived Tuesday. Service person called Tuesday morning around 8:30 and said he would arrive 30-45 minutes later. He arrived about in that time frame. I showed him the outside clean-out for the shower. The clean-out is no more than 6 feet from the shower drain. I then took him inside. He asked me if other plumbing was slowed like the toilet or sink and I said no. He looked at the shower and gave me a price of $129. I asked him why it wasn't the $69, and he said that was only for drains that are cleared at the clean out. Before he began he also talked to me about their new product called Plumber's Formula 5. I think it was about $50. I agreed to purchase that, too. He logged the charges on a computer tablet and had me sign it. Then he got to work. It didn't take long. I think he spent more time demonstrating the Plumber's Formula 5 on the sink - which turned out to be running slow, but not completely clogged - than clearing the shower drain. The bill says, and quot;I ran the 7ft unstopped the shower then I showed the customer how to properly use f5 on the lavatory then I tested the shower drain it drained well.and quot; He demostrated the shower and sink and apologized that his he didn't clean the shower completely from the dirt on his clearing equipment. There was a very small amount of dirt/mud on shower floor and walls. He refilled the bottle of Plumber's Formula 5 to make up for the portion he had used, so I was getting a full bottle. He had used at least 3 capfuls on the sink. In all, he didn't charge me any extra for the work on the sink, so maybe I should be ok with the $129 drain clearing fee. But honestly, he spent maybe 10-15 minutes to clear the shower. If I had said and quot;noand quot; to buying/demonstratiing the Plumber's Formula 5, $129 would have be too high a price. The shower and sink are both running fine now.
Description of Work: This was for plumbing services 1. Cleared bathroom shower drain. 2. Demostrated Plumber's Formula 5 on bathroom shower sink.

A technician from John Moore did a leak detection on my main sewer line. I was charged $2,379.92 for the job. The job did not include anything else but a regular simple leak detection. The pipe was relatively new (only 7 years old) and there was no leak. They charged for the items that were not actually done including and quot;team partner (for the second technician who never existed)and quot; and and quot;locate cleanout/ sewerand quot;. The cleanout had been clearly located prior to the arrival of the technician, which I pointed to him when he arrived. I also handed the detailed map of the sewer line to him. It is a very simple short line. When I questioned, john Moore said that the job was considered as a two-men job and thus they needed to charge me for a second technician even though they actually sent only one. I requested a refund at least for what should not appear on the invoice. At first, they told me to pick either of the two charges for the refund as they can refund for only one item. They finally agreed to refund for those two obvious false charges after I submitted a complaint to BBB. However, it has been three weeks since then and they have not actually refunded to me. Overall, it seems to be very expensive for a simple leak detection of a very short sewer line. Also, they are not responsive to my complaint.

It was a good job. Our house is old and it had a lot of galvanized piping, and if you know anything about galvanized is that they tend to rot after a while from inside out. Anyway, we had a leak – we had the ceiling fall in actually because of water accumulation after a storm and it was thought that the galvanized pipes contributed much to that. They took a look at it and found that it was galvanized pipe leading out from the copper, so they replaced that all throughout the house for us as well as all the faucets and place that where the water comes out and they replaced the piping and that sort of thing. They are a little bit costly them some but there is no jerking around. I mean, they gave you the price, they get it done for that price and it's done, it's not, "oh, we'll come back and fix it later," it's done. The price could be cheaper.

I spent about $18,000. They sent a guy after the air conditioning died. The guy told us that our furnace was gone and we had an air conditioning unit that was going to expire soon, so, we had them put in a new furnace and a new air conditioning. They rearranged things and then they noticed some stuff on the roof and we got that fixed. But everything works now and the wife and dog are comfortable, so that's fine. So, they did a very good job, kind of pricey but it's OK, the equipment has a 10 year warranty, they put in the best, crane furnace and unit for the air conditioner.

A technician (a.k.a Scam artist) came out to take a look at one of our AC units. He had us turn it off to run some tests. Looking back, we should have known right then he was trying to scam us. How do you run tests on something that isn't ON?! After his 'tests' , he went in the attic he said that the main unit had leaked 4lbs of frion and the smaller unit had leaked some frion. He told us we needed to replace both of the units or we wouldn't make it through the summer. He quoted us a price around $6500 for one and $10,000 for both! We were leaving for vacation the next day and didn't have much time to make a decision, so contemplated pulling the trigger on at least one unit. The technician pushed us to replace them and said we wouldn't get as good of a price if we waited until after vacation because they had been very slow this summer already and were in more of a giving mood right now. We decided to get a second opinion, because #1 we weren't going to spend that kind of $ without, and #2 we had a bad feeling about the guy. So we had another company come out to take a look. The was no evidence of the frion leaking in either unit. The tests were completely normal, once the unit was tested properly. All that we needed to replace was the capacitor (which the John Moore technician walked off with) It costed around $150 to repair. Our 2nd opinion guy used to work for John Moore and said they will usually send out 2 guys. One actual technician and One sales guy dressed as a technician. Their goal is to scare you into replacing everything and spending the most amount of money. We called back to get our $59 trip fee back. The customer service rep did not seem surprised to hear our story and ran the reimbursement fee through with no apologies.

We appreciated the professionalism. These guys work fast! He went straight to work, finishing in record time. He was friendly and did great work. He also took great care not to disturb what was going on in the house. The plumber showed up on time and was very professional. Our garbage disposal was not working. It was not making any noise at all when turned on. We received an estimate to replace and were told that it could not be fixed. The estimate was over $400 though, so we got a second opinion. Turns out our disposal was fixable and for only $50. This being our only experience with John Moore, I'm skeptical of their honesty.

They are professional and do good work but they are extremely expensive. $600 to repair a leaking toilet seems a little too costly to me...and the service only took them about 30 min to complete. First he did one repair and the bill was going to cost $400, then he found something else that made it go up to $600. At that point, I had to go with it or I would be out the $400. I could of had a new toilet installed for the price it cost to fix the old one.

I've been using them for 8 years now. They are convenient, they call, they tell you, and they fit the time period for the window that they have. They are good in identifying themselves, all their trucks are labeled, and they carry either identification or badge. Sometimes they call you to give you the name of the guy that's coming. They have a service fee to come out like everybody else, but I found that usually they are knowledgeable, thorough, neat, clean, and they have professional demeanor. They are really pretty good. I think their call-out fee is about $80, but then they take off whatever they did for you.

vg.Don't know how he knew he had me over a barrel and said it would cost $2829.57. My wife was sick and I had no choice. I had to get water in my house I had called several other Plumbers and could not get one. I was ceptical about calling them and they know that and are like vultures waiting for the call. He used 20' of Pex pipe cost about $10 and could have used about 1' of 1/2and quot; copper pipe at a cost of 50 cents and a little soder. How he arrived at $2829.57, I don't know. Only took about 45 minutes. I decided to repipe my whole house with Pex pipe and they were not invited to bid on the job. Church Services were low bidders by about 30% and did a very good job. Other bidders were Abacus and Hildabrant.

I met with them sevral times to no avail. The first time I called in to report the problme they sent me a letter saying that they couldn't reach me via the contact information they had on file. That is funny since they had no problems reaching me in the past. In my opinion they did not stand up to the warranty. After all who cares how good the work is if it doesn't fix the problem.
Description of Work: They were supposed to fix a clogged drain & replaced the plumbing to the drain underneath the house. The drain still didn't work and there was a two year warranty on the work. Response from John Moore Services
Dear Customer, Thank you for submitting your review of services that were rendered in October, 2012. We tunneled under your home and replaced a bad section of pipe. Once that needed repair was completed it was determined that additional pipe needed to be replaced to resolve all of your issues. At that point we offered multiple solutions from replacing all of the sewer line to rerouting the sewer, and even offered to roll the cost of the original into the larger repair. However all of those options were declined. John Moore Services has been in business since 1965 and has a long history of standing behind our work. While we regret that we were not able to find a solution that seemed desirable to you, we do feel that the options we offered you honored our tradition of standing behind our work. I used to be an engineer for many years. You are still running the promotion. I think that is a disservice. I dropped Angies list for a while because of this. hey are probably listed by yourselves as the worst company in the city for rip offs. Why do I want to deal with a company that does exactly what they are supposed to be protecting us from. A special from them just came out this weekend. It boggles my mind. The ones that do it convince you it is good. Maybe in old homes it is. Instead of looking at cleaning the air ducts. The solution is very simple! Replace the air filter every 30 days! In return it will save you a lot of money and keep your house less dusty. It was a controlled automatic unit. He just said we needed a new furnace due to the age. He went upstairs to the attic. He came down with a confirmation. There was no point in repairing it. He said it was over 20 years old. It was less than 10. He gave a quote of 5000 dollars. I got a second opinion and another quote from a different company. They confirmed what my thoughts were. I sent in a good positive review about them. They fixed it for 59 dollars. It was an igniter and they discovered the other company had loosened the wire. As soon as it was put back in, it worked properly. I had contact with them a year ago. Their punctuality is good. They want to nail you so they come out quickly. There is no professionals there.
Description of Work: I use John Moore Services for heating and a/c. I had called them with a problem of our gas furnace not igniting. He did not even look at the furnace.

Dear Customer, Thank you for submitting your review of our services. After looking into this matter further it seems that our technician did give you 2 options, 1 to repair and 1 for replacing the unit. All options were declined. Following your complaint, we also offered to send a Senior Technician to your home to investigate your concerns which you also declined. We take customer feedback very serious here at John Moore Services and without being able to attempt to address your concerns, we can not help. If you wish to contact me directly, please feel free to at 281-949-5353 Best Regards, Jessica Maldonado Customer Care Supervisor

I called for a second opinion on a drain pipe. ARS was out last week and told me that they found roots when snaking the drain and that I had a broken pipe under the foundation. They quoted me 3 repair options ranging from $8,000 to $17,000. Josh Rowland and another technician from John Moore located the clean out/sewer, which ARS told me they couldn't find, dug up around it and found roots growing from the outside into the line because the cover was partly off. They removed the roots that were growing into the pipe, ran a camera through the pipe and confirmed no breaks. Josh told me the type of pipes I have (not cast iron), looked at an unrelated issue and gave me an estimate on that as well. I appreciate the time and effort that Josh spent explaining the situation to me. And saving me the unnecessary expense and inconvenience of replacing a pipe that is not broken.
Description of Work: Snake and camera in a drain pipe from behind washing machine.
