The water in our showers had started backing up; something that had happened once back in March and mysteriously fixed itself. I called the city utility department first since I knew they had been working on putting new pipes and widening a nearby thoroughfare; they came out while my 86 year old mother was there, had her flush the toilet and told her it must be a blockage in the pipes on our property. She called me at work upset, so I called John Moore to see if I could get some answers. They sent a service/salesman named David who looked inside the sewer and said, "It looks like mud down in the bottom, which means it could be a break in the main sewer line." Next, he had me flush both toilets. I told David that we had had the part of sewer pipe going to our house replaced just last year, so I couldn't understand how it could cracked so soon. Also, we have no trees in the front or backyard, so roots could be ruled out. AT this point, he said the only way to know what was causing the problem was to use a camera. Of course, I had already told him that we had the city utility dept. come out and what had they did and told my mother. I also stated that I was certain that the city had not used a camera because my mother said she saw them go back in the front to their truck and just stood around for about 15 minutes then drove off. He insisted they must have checked using a camera and/or checked a "manhole" which was probably located in one of my neighbor's backyard (he said this after he walked to the back fence, looked over, and didn't find the "manhole" there). Feeling the pressure, I said okay to the camera. I watched as he fed the camera through the pipes under our house; as expected, everything was clear. Next, he fed the camera the opposite direction away from the house, he fed it over 33 feet when it water; then, it went black and we couldn't see anything. David said the camera couldn't go any further. At this point, he said, it was probably blocked from going any further because of roots from my neighbor's tree. He then said, to fix the problem at the point of the blockage, it would cost $5400, but he could only give a one year warranty. If we replaced the sewer pipe too, it would cost $8300. I was shocked. Not knowing anything about plumbing and feeling incredible pressure because it was after 5pm on a Friday evening, I signed to have the job financed. After he left, I started doing some research because my gut told me that this couldn't possibly cost so much money AND I still believed it was the city's responsibility. I called the city utility department's emergency number and had some guys come back so I could talk to them in person myself. After they showed up the second time, they said they would have to come back Monday because it was too dark to put a camera through AND they also had to flush out the pipe to be able to pinpoint exactly what was causing the problem. David did NOT flush out the pipe which means he could not possibly tell exactly what or where the problem existed. I called David back and immediately cancelled the job, telling him the city was looking into the problem to determine if it was their responsibility. David called me back around 9pm and said, "My manager wants to know what it would take to get the job." I told him the city utility workers would be returning on Monday to flush out the pipe and camera it. Sure enough, on Monday morning, the city workers returned, flushed out the pipe, ran a camera through and found a crack in the main pipe and have scheduled the work, with obviously no charge to us. I called John Moore and told the person who answered that I wanted to file a complaint. I explained everything and also told her I refused to pay the $200 for a service that was inconclusive and was used to try and defraud me out of thousands of dollars for repairs that were not on my property or my responsibility. Update: As of 12/28/15, no one from John Moore's "customer care" department has called me regarding this issue.
Description of Work: Pushed me to use a camera to look in my sewer pipe at a charge of $200 AFTER convincing me that the utility company workers had already used a camera to determine it wasn't the city's responsibility and/or checked a "manhole probably located in one of my neighbor's backyard."

He basically, charged me for a service he did not do. I had a leaky shower head, and he tried to see why it leaked. He spent 25 minutes looking at the issue, and said he could not fix it. So I paid him to do nothing. I called the customer service department and made a formal complaint, and they said well he charged you for labor. He did not do the job. I will never call this company to do anything to my house. I made a deal with the devil (John Moore Services).
Description of Work: NOTHING!! did not fix my plumbing problem and appeared to know nothing about my problem. He spent 3 hours yapping about what other problems I could possibly have, which none were found.

During our bedtime shower, we walked out of our bathrooms to find both bathrooms and a portion of the master bedroom sopping wet with water. We discontinued our water use until morning and contacted John Moore as we had heard them advertised on the radio. They came out same day, were professional and punctual (I give them an A for all three). They quoted us $10,500.00 to dig a trench in our backyard and tunneled under the house to repair the pipe which was approximately 10 feet from the edge of the rear of the house. Since this was a emergency situation and they were already at our home and we really didn't have the luxury of waiting on price quotes from other companies , we went ahead and hired them since they said they could do the job right then and there. The broken portion of pipe was repaired with new plastic piping and the trench was filled with the existing dirt dug up. I am pleased with the work John Moore did, HOWEVER, I feel that they price gouged us. Obviously we did not have the over $10k readily available to cover what they charged us, but they agreed to finance the cost for us, so we naively agreed. Yes, this was a big job but we've been told by numerous people that this job could have been done for probably HALF that amount if not less. Each month I add an extra $50 to my monthly finance bill of $258 and a year later, I still owe over $8,000.00 and my statement lists the loan maturing in October 2019. Based on the pricing of this company, I would NOT hire them again and would rather stay a day without water usage and shop around. I could have spent a month in a ritzy hotel (for less money) while I waited for someone else to come repair my pipe at a more reasonable price.

We're sorry that our service wasn't up to John Moore Services' standard. We do have in our system that our technician gave you three options to fix your problem. The good option was to locate the wiring that was defective and repair it. The better option was to replace the electrical wiring going to the compressor and evaporators. Lastly, the best option was to upgrade your panel. Thank you for taking the time to write this review and let us know how to better serve our customers.

John Moore did not show up as scheduled??!
Description of Work: I needed someone to check my air conditioning because it was not cooling properly. When I called John Moore they said they would be out between 8:00 and 10:00. I waited until noon and called them. Then I was told that they would not be able to come until 6:00pm. Next, I received a call around 4:30 stating they had made a scheduling mistake because they do not make late appointments on Saturdays, but they could give me an appointment on Monday. So basically, I waited all day for John Moore to show up for nothing!! Needless to say, I do not recommend John Moore Services for anything!

The original appointment was for Monday, June 8, 2015. John Moore Service only allows a 4 hour window for the service fee of $49.00. (A smaller time frame is available for a much higher service fee.) This fee was supposed to be applied to any service rendered. It was not. On Monday the window was from 4PM to 8PM for the service technician to arrive. I specifically told John Moore's customer service to notate the AC was located on a full two story roof and to bring a 27 foot ladder. I arrived at 4PM to wait. Around 6PM John Moore customer service called and stated they were over booked. At 7:30PM customer service called and stated they were running late. The technician did not arrive until 8:45. It was completely dark. When he arrived, he told me he could not fix the unit because he did not have a ladder. Each time John Moore's customer service called I reminded them they needed a tall ladder. Customer service told me at 8:45 they would book another appointment for the following day from 8 to Noon. I told them I had already waited for almost 5 hours and they agreed to make the service call for 8AM to 9AM on Tuesday. Tuesday morning the technician arrived at 9AM. The technician had a ladder and examined the condenser. He told me the unit was full of Freon but needed to have the evaporator coil cleaned and the condensation line blown out. He initially quoted me $850 to perform the service. When I asked if he was going to remove the coil and clean, he told me this was just for an acid spray. The technician told me to remove the coil would be $2,000. I told him to just blow out the condensation line. He quoted me a price of $350.00 to blow out the line. I told the technician I was going to call and ask for a supervisor. The technician told me the supervisor would not be at her desk and would have to call me back. I called John Moore's customer service to inquire if these were the actual prices they charged and asked to speak to a supervisor. I was told the supervisor had just walked away from her desk and would have to call me back. John Moore call center provides terrible customer service. After sometime, the technician told me he could reduce the charge to blow out the line to $149.99 plus the charge of $49.00 for the service call. Since I had waited for almost 2 days I agreed to have the line cleaned. John Moore's customer service is awful and their prices to perform service are outrageous. John Moore Service clearly does not care about providing quality customer service at a fair price. Ironically, when I was typing this complaint (Friday, June 12, 2015), John Moore's customer service called and offered to refund the $49.00 service charge. I will have to wait to see if they follow through on the refund. I would not recommend them!

Other than the loud fans (no way of getting around that), it was great. They set up fans for water damage in the kitchen and bathroom. They also sprayed for bacteria (there wasn't much). They got in quick, didn't take long to set up, and they were done. Same way with pick-up of supplies.

Time line facts. It took two days to get a plumber out to the house, scheduled between 8-12. So I took of 1/2 day vacation. At 12 that day they called and said it had to be moved to 2-6 same day. So I took the rest of the day off. At 6pm I called to ask where they were, "hold please, let us see". At 6:30 that evening two men showed up. I had a list of two plumbing simple faucet fixes. The men responded, "we are not really plumbers just technicians. We will have to call in to get a plumber to actually come fix the faucet." They said they would call it in and could be that night or the next morning. The office called to say it would be the next morning, between 8-12. At 11am the following day a plumber came. "Oh sorry sir, this is new fancy plumbing and I am just a good ol boy plumber, we will have to send someone who is more current on plumbing to look at this faucet". The office confirmed they would send someone between 2-6. At 5:30 a man called, but I was on the other line and did not take the call. At 5:32 I called the number back, he confirmed he was the plumber scheduled to come, but "because I did not answer the phone he cancelled the service and was going home." Really two minutes, and you can't turn your truck in the right direction. So two vacation days used up and still never got the plumbing faucet fixed. At this point I believe John Moore should pay me for my time. When they say "Get Moore" I believe they mean "get moore" of your time, and p*** you off even "moore". Called another plumber, 15 minutes someone was there, 20 minutes later both faucets fixed and done.

I said no thanks and called another company recommended by friends. Will at Devoy AC came out and withing 15 minutes diagnosed the thermostat as blown and said looked like the motor was fine. He found a burnt fuse the John Moore guy replaced and said the board was flashing that the motor was ready. When he installed the new thermostat the motor came right on. Also he showed me how to look up my warranty at American Standard and it was a 10yr warranty not 5yr. John Moore tried to rob me of $1650.00 and that is NOT acceptable.
Description of Work: I paid 100.00 up front to have a call on Memorial day. A tech named Nicholas came out and quoted me a new furnace motor and new thermostat blown out by lightening. He said he could not give me even a general estimate until the next day. Tues he called and said he checked my warranty and it was a 5yr policy so it was expired. He said it would be 1900.00 to replace the motor and thermostat. The truth is he lied.

John Moore pulled a bait and switch on me. They had previously completely redone my home's plumbing, just more than 2 years ago. It was expensive but I liked the plumber. When I first called about the new shower faucet area water leak and water-soaked carpet, John Moore said they couldn't come out that day. When I found another plumber from Abacus to come, the Abacus plumber said it was last company's fault and should be under warranty. The Abacus plumber kindly waited while I checked to see if John Moore work was under warranty. John Moore folks said sure enough, work was covered under warranty, send away Abacus and their and affiliated water remediators and John Moore would handle it all under warranty that same day. When John Moore folks show up many hours later, they do fix the leak at no cost but they claim it's not because it's under warranty, just because I'm a good customer. Then they want to charge $1,200 for the remediation but knock off $200 for the ruse. In the 6 hours since I'd sent away the Abacus-affiliated water remediator, the water had migrated further and done more damage. I did not let John Moore do the water remediation part, I was too angry over the company's deception.

Mrs. (member name removed), We are sorry to hear that you are still unhappy with the outcome of our service call yesterday. We have carefully reviewed our records on the work done previously at your home as well as our conversations with you. Two years ago John Moore Services replaced plumbing pipes in your home. When we heard from you yesterday, we did say that if the water damage you had was related to the re-pipe we installed, that we would take care of the repairs. We were able to send the same technician who did the re-pipe to your home yesterday for a thorough review of the problem. Unfortunately the leak you had yesterday was caused by the shower valve union, not the plumbing pipes. We repaired the problem with the shower at no charge because we value you as a customer and appreciated that you waited for us to take a look at the problem. The plumbing manager is available to discuss this again with you if that would be helpful. Thank you for providing this review.

The technician arrived about 25 minutes early. I showed him the area that needed replacement and quickly got started. He began by rolling drop cloths out on the floor from the entryway to the work area. He then cordoned off the area with plastic and tape. He asked me if he could remove pictures we had hanging on the wall in the area he had sectioned off and placed them neatly in another room to keep them from getting dusty. Later, he needed to get in the attic. He noticed that we had a wood floor under the attic ladder, so he laid a tarp under it to keep it from getting scratched. He worked from about 9:30 to 15:30 and when he finished asked me to inspect and approve his work. The sheetrock work was done well and I couldn't tell that any sections had been replaced. He did a good job of matching the texturing and had cleaned up the area and swept. He also took a picture of how he left the insulation in the attic so I wouldn't have to go upstairs and check, but did offer to take me up there. The technician was very professional, stayed busy the entire time and took the time to explain the things he had completed. I did not rate their pricing since I did not get competitive estimates.
Description of Work: Replaced sections of sheetrock on the wall and ceiling that were water-damaged from a leak in the attic. I estimate about 24 square feet.

After repeatedly expressing concern over the lines running through the area that would have to be dug up I was assured they would be extremely careful and no lines would be cut. The following day when the sprinkler service came to turn my system back on he discovered it wasn't working and after trying numerous fixes determined the electric line had been cut. John Moore refused to reimburse me for the cost.

We are so sorry to hear that you've had this experience. Our policy is to return to fix any problems at no cost until you are satisfied with the job. We wish we had had the opportunity to make the repairs you needed, because we would certainly have done it, and explained that we don't reimburse for repairs done by other companies. We hope this helps to clarify the situation.
