I got the estimate from them for the cost (after emailing them the designers plans) and decided to hire them. They wanted 50% down before starting the job. It was the only way to "get on the list" to get the job started. I do not like doing this, but they came recommended and I liked what they had to say. I paid the half and was told the job would start in 2 weeks. 2 weeks came and went. I called again, and was told that that timeline was wrong and it would be another week. I was next in line. A week went, and still no calls, no work, nothing. I called again. This time I was told to speak to the Supervisor. He said that I shouldn't have been told the timeline on the job, and it would definitely be another week before they would start!! I never got phone calls to keep me updated on when they would come. They finally just showed up. The crew got right to work tearing out everything. I found out later that the crew working the job were never given the landscaping plans, so they never knew what they were supposed to be doing! The Super showed up on day 2 (and was only on the job for 20 minutes, and not even everyday), and he "drew" the line on the ground for the crew showing the shape and where the tumbled stone "wall" for the bedding area was to be done. I noticed, too late, that he never measured for the wall, or used the plans to mark it! I think he just made his own measurements!!! Part of the wall was only supposed to be 8' from the house, and they built it 12'! If that was off the entire wall was off. I either had to live with it, or have them destroy the whole wall (which was put together with concrete and rock). Again, they had to-scale plans to go by! I trusted them as the "professionals" to know what they were doing. Because they did not build the wall to the measurements, the amount of plants needed therefore changed. I admit, they did not charge me for having to add MANY plants to fill in all the areas that were now bare! They did not know how to build the riverbed walkway, but did not say so. I had to have them rip it all out and do again. There are many areas that required Gerber Daisy's to be installed (and they were on the estimate to be installed). They could not get them so they decided to plant mums instead, and without asking me if that was ok!! I got told "it was in the estimate so they could change things". It was not in the agreed estimate, and even if it was, I still should have been informed ahead of time about ANY changes. Not them arbitrarily changing things!! If I had not been home to stop them, and insist they plant what they were supposed to, I am sure they would have planted the mums, and charged me for the more expensive Gerbers. None of the plants were put in where they were supposed to go (again according to the plans). It looked like 3rd graders came in and planted everything. They were in crooked lines (10 plants to go in in 3 rows and plants on the diagonal of each other), or some grouped really close together while others were far apart. It looked, again like children planted them and not "professionals". They did EVENTUALLY fix what they could, but it took many phone calls. Getting someone to return your call was hard, and when they did it seemed like they did not care. After all of this, I would NOT recommend them to ANYONE, or ever use them again!! Very unprofessional company, and they were not even knowledgeable about the plants they installed! I was told the Ash tree in the front was an Oak, and when he came to replace some of the dead plants, he insisted that he planted the right one and that a "Lantana is a Lantana. There are no types". I got a red flowering Lantana installed, when the rest of my yard has Lantana New Golds!! He didn't even know what he planted!! I was also never given any instructions on care for the plants, or maintenance. When it was 5 o'clock on the final day, I was told that what they did should be ok because it is 5 o'clock and they were done for the day!! They had another house scheduled the next day, so that was that!! They loaded up the crew and ran from my house! Again, no after care instructions or nothing! WORST COMPANY I HAVE DEALT WITH (and I have had my entire house resided, new windows, new roof, and complete overhaul of my backyard and pool since this and all has gone better than this. All with different companies, so I have experience with big jobs, and this was aweful!!!!
Description of Work: I hired a landscape designer to plan out my front yard. Everything but the 2 trees were to be removed and all new landscaping. The designer gave me plans that were to scale of my house (every 1" on the plans represented 4' in the yard) for Peace of Green to implement. They were to remove all existing plants/bushes, build a tumbled stone bedding edge, add dirt to level the bedding area, put down weed fabric, and install ~160 plants, and add tumbled stone (instead of mulch), and make a "dry river bed" path through the landscaped area.

I would like to take this opportunity to explain myself to Angie's list clients what happened this past year. First of all i would like to respond to this client and insure her that I have been in this industry for over 20 years I did not just one day say that I wanted to start a landscape company I worked for other big companies and worked my way up learning the skill. Now to the clients of Angie's I have worked hard my whole life to learn the landscaping business after I felt I was ready I started Peace of Green For two years I ran my business and and built my review base with nothing but A's a few dissatisfied customers but never left the job until they were happy with what they got. Last year my business due to Angie's list blew up we were getting so many calls I had to hire a secretary. I was still doing the field work estimates and so on and was hiring a designer to do my designs because i did not have time to do them. I was not getting many of the jobs that I paid for the design so I decided to bring someone in and train them to take over my job (supervisor) so that I could have time to create an infrastructure and do designs while still molding my supervisor in to the perfect helper. To Help cover the cost I did more advertising to reach more customers and bring in more money to even everything out. The whole time I was thanking the Lord saying I finally made it. I never knew what I was doing was so dangerous. Everything that could go wrong did we got more complaints because I was not able to be everywhere at once and my supervisor was not as knowledgeable as me when it came to landscaping. It has been a while since this happened and I have since then went back to the basics and brought my company where it was before. I am the supervisor and make sure all jobs are done to my standards. the ideas of grandeur have left my mind and am very happy staying small and making the customers happy. I Take pride in my work and will not let anything again take me away from having the control of each and every job. Maybe one day that perfect person will come along but he will have a lot of proving himself to do before I trust my clients into his hands. I hope you find it in your hearts to forgive me and give me another chance you will not regret it. Thank you and have a blessed day, James Hill/ Owner

o Had crew with 10 Mexicans who worked, worked well together with a couple speaking English. o Mike set up the crew in the am and let them go at it. Didn't finish until about 10 pm that night . o Returned next day to finish up and check out everything in the light. o Charged me $35.00 a ft which was about as low as it goes around Clear Lake City. Included chemical root barrier cloth and 10 mil water barrier plastic sheeting. o Mike trimmed and shaped a 14 ft tall Japanese Blueberry tree in the front of the property for free. o Good outfit - would have them back.
Description of Work: o Mainly, dig 1,500 ft x 24 in. deep root barrier on west and south sides of house. Huge trees sucking water for 30 yrs finally making my living room slab sink down about 2 in. o Recommended by Gerard Duhon, Consulting Engineer.

I feel the overall procedure went well. The salesman, Scott, was very good at helping me decide what to do. In other words, I knew what I needed as an end result. I needed a walkway that not only looked good, but enabled a wheelchair to make its way from the front door of our house to the driveway. We have quite a slope plus had an awful sidewalk which they removed. He helped me plan a nice patio across the front, as well. Our other problem is large dogs that dig in the back. I wanted to extend the patio and lay the crushed granite with the hopes of offering them fewer places to dig. Again, I relied on Scott to help me figure this out. I felt that the men that did the job were concientious and worked hard. I was not happy with the sand filler, but when I called and asked about it they came out and made adjustments. I was always treated very nicely on the phone by Stephanie and received quick courteous email responses from James. I was told I can call at any time with any concerns regarding the work they did and feel comfortable in doing so. I hope to have them back out to do more work soon and highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Peace of Green made a paver walkway and patio in front of our house which had to also be used as a wheelchair ramp going from the front door to the driveway. In addition, they extended our wooden deck in the back with pavers, leveled the yard, laid sod in one area and crushed granite in the other area.

It was okay. It wasn’t too bad. The only thing is that the quality of the mulch wasn’t that great but it was okay. I did ask them for some quote to plant some trees and other landscaping stuff but they never responded back to me and that was kinda strange. It seems like they were busy at the time because of the deal. They came on time and they did what I asked them to do. I was satisfied with that. It was a really good deal.
Description of Work: I purchased a Big Deal coupon from Peace of Green. They got the mulch and spread it out in the different places that I told them to.
There was a guy that came in to try to do his best to fix the situation of grass dying and roses dying. I attempted to speak with the owner, but he never called me back. The company itself stopped it's work, and I am still being billed monthly. I ended up being so dissapointed with this company in the end and not using them any further.
Description of Work: I used them throughout the year for $200 a month. The work started in the spring, and the planting started in May. They put in a sprinkler system, plants, and fertilization and new soil in my yard.

I had Earth Ideas remove old dirt/weeds and a concrete pad to install a new stone patio. My wife wanted to had ornamental grass in between the stones. After describing what we wanted, Earth Ideas recommended a few different types of stone and grass. Once we agreed, it took a while to get on their schedule due to inclement weather. However, when our date was solidified, they hit the ground running and got the work done in two days. There were a few details about the project that my wife and I didn't like (edges not straight, patch of killed grass, etc); so, we discussed them with the project manager on-site. He fully understood what we wanted and returned a few days later to fix it while we were at work. I returned home that day to the exact backyard we had envisioned.

Meeting never happened and this was after giving them multiple changes. 1st, after the initially contacting them, I was told be the receptionist/secretary that I would be called by someone to setup a time. never happened. 2nd, got a date and time scheduled, which was cancelled by Peace of Green due to weather and traffic. Understandable. Rescheduled. 3rd, got a date and time scheduled. Took time off of work to be home for this appointment and was called 10 minutes after our scheduled time by a James, saying that he just saw a reminder pop up for our appointment and was across town. Sounded genuinely upset and sorry, and offered to meet me on the weekend, so it would not impact my work schedule. 4th, weekend appointment... No Show... Thanks for nothing Peace of Green. When trying to provide this feedback, I noticed Peace of Green is in breech of contract with Angie's List as well. I would avoid dealing with this company.
Description of Work: I tried to coordinate a visit for Peace of Green to give me an estimate for landscaping by backyard. I was looking into some stone work, landscaping and a possible pergola.

Came out to our home for a consultation to do a fairly decent size landscaping project; said we would have a quote / drawing the following Monday. Never received any further communication; we emailed them 2 weeks later and they replied 2 days after that saying we would have the quote that day. Still did not receive a quote. After a month passed we moved on; nice people but perhaps to busy?

I called this company because of its rating. The lady which I talked with was quite helpful. I made an appointment with them to come and looked at my front yard for grass replacement on the following Friday in the morning. There was a call back to change the time from the morning to the afternoon. I waited for either an email or a phone call for a quote on the job. Well, I waited and waited and waited. Nothing. After 2 emails, 3 phone calls, I was told the company never came out and stated they would not do grass replacement.

I apologize my secretary should have told you this from the first interaction. There is just not enough money in grass by itself and I did let you know that I would do it but that I would have to charge more than you can get it done. I dont feel right over charging so that is why when I seen your email I told her to tell you that you can get it done cheaper than we can provide. There are companies that do only sod and they are able to do it very cheap because they get the sod at a very discounted price. If you would like me to help you find someone that can do it please email or call back and I will be happy to give you some of my contacts. James

When we asked them to give us a detailed quote they were non responsive to any of our messages. They are unprofessional and I will never use them again.
Description of Work: They provided a vague quote of what we were wanting them to do, then when we reviewed the quote and question it they got defensive and short with us and did not respond to phone calls or emails. When they finally answered us they did not itemize their quote like we asked them to provide. They just stopped answering our attempts to reach them to resolve the issue.

This was a Industrial Yard and at first I was interested because I thought you wanted to keep up around the outside and blow the parking lot and spray round up on the weeds in the parking lot. When I sent my contract over and your lawyer pretty much re-wrote the entire contract and after reading it I was not interested in those terms and felt like you were leaving it open to come back and hit me with anything you wanted and I would have to do it according to your lawyer lingo. If it was a beautiful maintained property I would have had no problem but since it is not I did not want to insult you with a price that would cover me if it did turn out that way.Sorry but just did not feel comfortable in getting involved in that contract. The guy who came out to evaluate my yard and find out what I wanted assured me that they would take excellent care of my yard, including keeping up my flower beds, pulling weeds by hand, plant individual plants for me and dead-head my flowers. What they told me and how their crew performed were two different things. Each time they came they would not dead-head the flowers, they would blow grass into the flower beds, they would leave debris on my walkways and patio, and twice they cut branches from newly planted bushes. When they did plant a couple of plants for me, they left several of the roots exposed above ground. I had assured James that I wouldn't put a negative review on Angie's List without first telling them about and allowing them to correct problems. However, I did indeed let them know and was told that the issues would be addressed. (I spoke to the secretary Stephanie on 2 occasions.) They weren't fixed; this last time they were there, the work done was the same as on their prior visits. Thus, I have cancelled my contract and am writing this review. I now see that they have been downgraded very recently to a B and others have made similar complaints. When you are charging 30-40% more than everyone else, your work should be 30-40% better. I also was going to hire them to place rocks which I had purchased to border my gardens. However, after taking some time to think about it, particularly their very high quote, I changed my mind.

What I can say in response to this is that I am in the middle of re-vamping my whole operation to figure out a system that will give my maintenance customers the quality they deserve. I am going to shorten the routes and charge more money so that my guys have the time to keep all my properties in pristine condition at all times. I know no one likes it when the prices are high but time is money and I would much rather hear my customers rave about my quality. I have been in the industry for many years but have had my business on a full time basis for about 3 years now and I have been trying to find that price to where quality and price meet and it takes a lot of trial and error but I believe I have found it and am putting it into action as we speak. Those who stick with me will notice the quality of the yard unmatchable to the competition. I am sorry that you were not happy but I assure you that is my ultimate goal. James

They did an excellent job., and they are very nice people. Leveling the area by digging out the dirt was hard work, and they worked their tail off. They got here on time and worked very hard. I have two major requirements. Cut the grass down to 1-1.5 inches and bag all grass. This provider will rarely meet those requirements. This was our agreed upon requirements for the associated rate. However, for 3-4 months straight they have consistently cut my grass 2 inches or higher, with no bag or they will use a mower that has a hole on the side of it, which throws all the clippings back onto the lawn. When the kids try to play in the yard, they come back into the house with grass clipping up to their knees, which ruins the house. Now we cannot use the yard due to inconsistent results from this provider. The grass is too high and by the time they understood their mistake and were ready to fix the problem, by cutting it low, the Summer heat kicked in, so correcting the problem would have burned out the lawn. My lawn was not good looking for these past 3-4 months. Whenever I catch the crew in the act of using no bags, I call the office to report the problem and they provide their broken record apology and tell me they will talk to the crew. They claim that they have written instructions about my requirements for the crew. However, each week they are making the same mistakes again and again. In addition, they have trimmed the bushes crooked. Instead of a rectangular shape, I ended up with a trapezoid. Bushes that are suppose to be tear drop/globe shaped, ends up as lopsided, deflated ball shapes. The sad part is that I would have to go out and show them their mistakes. The crew works like they are doing a great job, when they are actually not doing too well. I have been more than patient with this provider, and I am very exhausted. It is very frustrating to work with them. The people in the office seem to be nice on the phone. They seem to be sympathetic for the first two months of reported mistakes but now it has turned into some type of routine. To add insult to injury, they raised my rates last month. I guess they really want more Piece of Green. If you do not care how your lawn is cut and do not have any bushes to trim, or have a very plane, open yard, this provider may work out for you. If you do not care about grass clipping left back in the yard and no bagging requirements, then they might be the one for you. If you like to get your lawn and landscape prim and proper, with professional results, I do not recommend you use them. Until they get serious about their work and hire the proper crew who takes pride in their work and knows how to manicure landscape, this provider is performing just like the rest of them.. Anyone can push a mower and walk around with a weed trimmer. However, there is a unique skill in understanding what you are cutting, shaping in a landscape and the proper technique on how to maintain a professional look. Grass/plant type, season, weather, and a good eye for details are required. They use to have the skilled crews between January and April, but something happened and they have been in a downward spiral. Occasionally, they will surprise you, but unfortunately, those moments are far and few.
Description of Work: This provider consistently makes the same big mistakes each week. I keep calling the office each week to report the same problem and they provide promises of correction that never take hold. The following week, instead of correcting the problem they are repeating the same problem. They will always have some type of excuse to explain why they made the same mistake over and over again. If they do resolve the problem one week, they will make that mistake again the following week. They never resolve the problem long enough to made a difference in their overall performance.

It actually went badly from the start. This should have been my red flag. Scheduling my preliminary consultation took over a month. There was always some excuse as to why I needed to be rescheduled. The two times we James and I actually meet he was an hour or more late. On top of this: 1) I had to ask for a countersigned copy of our contract no less than 5 times. 2) Received a quote for additional work that contained no useful particulars as to flowers discussed and specific pricing 3) Above quote only came after demanding it for several weeks. Excuse was "we didn't have your e-mail address". I confirmed it with his associate who had a tablet at the meeting. 4) There were at least two other issues that bring into question the company's knowledge of the business. 5) They charge an aweful lot as some others state for 10 to 15 minutes of work. I cancelled after realizing we were never going to have a good working relationship. At the time I notified them of the desire to cancel they just stopped coming even though we had paid through the month AND I told them I merely wished for them not to resume the following month. I didn't get much of an apology. I just got an offer for a 1/2 month refund which I still had to fight to get. It was only though my wife calmer voice in my ear that I didn't file a BBB complaint. This is my nice review. We should have gotten at least two more weeks if service plus that credit. Your customer should NEVER have to do all this work. We have a mow a go crew now but at least I know I can trust them. I strongly suggest you take your business elsewhere unless you want a lot of headaches, stress, and excuses.

At the time this customer signed up with us we were offering 50% off discounts for the first month which was given to him. The following month he called and said he wanted another discount this time 10% which we gave even though there was no special going on and the customer was told no more discounts would be given without a special being run. That month the customer called repeatedly to complain and even after steps were put in place to fix these problems the customer would call with something else. We had our supervisor follow one day and watch and saw the guys doing their jobs appropriately and making sure everything was done correctly. Still there was another call. Before the next month was invoiced he terminated services. We felt as though our company had been taken advantage of by this customer and let him go without trying to resolve the differences and keep him as our customer. We may cost more as a company but we do offer more than a mow and go crew. Examples being mowing, weed eating, trimming, weeding, fertilizer in the spring and winterize in the end of fall and beginning of winter. As far as scheduling, things do happen, people get sick, problems arise in other areas of the business, wrecks happen, life happens. We strive to meet every appointment but like it was said before, things do happen. If we cannot get to an appointment on the day it was scheduled it usually has to be rescheduled for the following week as we have already set appointments for the rest of the week and usually the days are full. We in the office try to make those phone calls as early as we possibly can rather than waiting for the last minute when they are supposed to be arriving. We are truly sorry your experience with our company was less than satisfactory for the customer but we feel we did everything we could to please them to no avail. Have a blessed day

I was extremely disappointed with the work performed. When they completed installing the BioBarrier, the fabric was exposed by 2-3" above the ground. According to the product website, it is to be covered up to 2" of stone, mulch or other material. I called Earth Ideas Landscaping and a manager told me that how they installed it was correct. Only after I quoted what I read from the product website did the manager say he would return and cut it down so it would be level with the grass. He did a poor job - the fabric is still exposed above the grass. My lawn is longer level either because they haphazardly threw the dirt and grass down when they finished. And, I was completely shocked by the incredible lack of professionalism of the owner, Brian Blalock. This was the worst experience I have had with a contractor. I would absolutely not recommend Earth Ideas Landscaping.
Description of Work: Two root barriers were installed at my home.

We got an estimate but we never used them as the price was too expensive. The cost was twice as much compared to other estimate's that I received. The guy that came out was nice and very professional. He was dressed well and I did appreciate that they came to give the estimate. I would get an estimate in the future for a bigger project if needed because they seemed like a reliable company for bigger job's.
Description of Work: They gave an estimate for drainage installation. They were going to excavate and connect the gutters to drainage.

He really wanted to sell me landscaping services and all I wanted was the downspouts connected to underground drains to take rainwater to the street. We have a new house and we have already added the landscaping we want on top of what the builder put in. He criticized our landscaping choices and what I was asking him to provide an estimate for.
Description of Work: They came and gave me an estimate for drainage work but I did not select them to do the work.

The service was great. The cost was reasonable. They were really nice and super professional. They did everything quickly. They were at my home on time and that was much appreciated. I would use them again in the future and I would recommend them as well.
Description of Work: They put in a couple of root barriers. They took out two trees as well. They ground down the stumps as well.

Jim the owner emailed me a quote for the tree removal and lawn maintenance. The tree removal seemed high but ok. The lawn maintenance was for $625 per month. I was a bit shocked and thought it must be a mistake and called. Aimee told me she would find out and let me know. The revised and final price is for $435 per month. Way too high and unrealistic for a residential lawn service.
Description of Work: I contacted the company to get an estimate for lawn maintenance and tree removal. Scott came out and met with me to review the yard and 2 trees we need to have removed. He was punctual and pleasant. A week went by and we had no quotes, so I contacted the company to get a written quote.

Response from Houston Foundation Analysis & Repair
We offer full lawn Maintenance so our price is in our time that we think that we will be out there making sure the customer is happy. If someone tells us in so many words that they want there landscape to be pristine at all times we add the extra time to the bid to make sure that we estimated enough time that the customer will be Satisfied. We try our best to not blow the customers away and not lose money at the same time it is a fine line we follow. My guys go above and beyond and we go the extra mile because we do not want to be known as a cut and blow company. Yes the prices are going to be higher than the average company but they run through the yard when we spend 30 mins at a regular lawn and sometimes more if it is bigger than average or it just needs a little TLC. I have done a Financial overlook over the maintenance department and we do one on an annual basis to make sure that our prices are competitive and we are able to make a profit. I am sorry that you are not happy with the prices but I assure you if you compared it to the service you would understand. Have a Blessed Day, James

When we moved into our new townhouse earlier this year our front yard was an eye sore. It was at the top of our list to take care of when we could. We found Peace of Green on Angie's List and they were great. We requested quotes from several other 'big name' companies and not only we they completely ridiculous on price, but took weeks and even a month to respond with just a quote. James and his project manager met us in a timely manner to provide a quote (while standing in the rain with us), provided quick 3D imaging/quote and took our suggestions into consideration until we were satisfied with the end product. When it came time to complete the work everything was done quickly and efficiently. The only reason I gave a B for punctuality was because the job had to be broken into two days (instead of planned one) due to running out of time from previous house they were at. It wasn't a big deal and they made it a priority to return to the house when we were next available. We understand sometimes things beyond our control happen. Due to the extreme heat, we had a lot of flowers and grass die after the job was done while we were on vacation. James answered our call after hours and discussed what we could do to resolve - he didn't leave us hanging even though the job was already done! IN fact, we are still having some issues with our new grass 'taking' and he is helping us with how to resolve. The final result makes us so happy!! It's completely changed the exterior look of our house. We get compliments all the time from neighbors and even have been referenced as the 'best looking yard' a couple times!
Description of Work: Landscape Makeover - Removed row of bushes, built flower bed outline out of beautiful stone and cement (beyond our expectations), filled the new flower beds with great flowers and planted all new grass. A complete landscape makeover!!

I have to agree with some of the earlier reviews. They left my gate open and I too own pets. I didn't know my pet was gone until a half hour later and I had to call in to work so that I could find my dog FIVE hrs later. In addition, and worse, they DID NOT provide all the services that are in the agreement. I paid a lot of money for a higher quality service and the only thing they really do is mow the lawn. There are plenty other companies that provide that for a lot less. No thank you. Definitely pass on this company.
