Houston's Best Movers

The company returned my furniture damaged with gouges in some wooden tables and chips on a metal table. The movers dropped a game table on the pavement in front of the house and cracked an edge of it. They did not return 2 of 4 chairs that they stored, and it is now 2 months later and the chairs have not been found. I tried to negotiate reimbursement for the $1950 it cost to fix the furniture and for the $800 it will cost to buy 4 new matching game table chairs, but they offer only $550 after two months of negotiation. They have been impossible to deal with--calls not returned, conflicting advise, empty promises. In order to accept the $550, I was asked to sign a confidentiality agreement, and I refused so that I could post notices like this. I would not use this company.

After reading reviews on Angie's List, I called Tom at Houston's Best Movers. During this phone call for a cost estimate, I walked room to room in our home listing what was to be moved, and Tom quoted me approx. $1000. On June 13, one truck, with 4 men was dispatched to our home at 8:30 am. They proceeded to fill truck with half of our household goods. Instead of calling for more hlep and another truck, they said they would make two trips. The second load was finally in new home at 2:30 am. The final bill contained 18 hours of truck time which we expected, but also over $1300 in packing materials! We were horrified because much of the packing movers did was with our own materials, and we were charged for boxes that the movers then took with them. Of course, they could not give us a breakdown in our boxes used vs theirs. We questioned movers when presented with final bill that was over 3 and a half times estimate, but after a 16-hour day, and at this time of morning, no one was available to address our concerns. Movers assurred us that we could talk to Tom in the morning. Tom offered $200 off this bill to reimburse us for some of the boxes that were ours; however, once we sent pictures of wall damage (chunk of plaster approx. 2" x 4" that was knocked out of wall by movers), Tom never responded to clarify or make resitiution for the damage caused by this company. We have received NOTHING from them.
