We have been providing threshold & weatherstrip solutions for exterior doors to Houston and surrounding areas since 1958. We also carry a full line of Hardwood Entry Doors and Fiberglass Back doors.
We went to the showroom and picked out doors w wanted, we were told someone would be out to measure. Nobody came. I had to call 4 times to get someone out. After Javier came, I heard nothing. I called John to see if our doors were ordered, and he told me they couldn’t order my doors for a month, but he could send me a quote. I never got the quote! My husband left a message with the manager who never bothered to call us back. Worse place ever!

Initially, before visiting the store, we called to ask some general questions. It took repeated phone calls to Hoelscher before anyone called us back. We then went to the store to look at doors. We sat down with Mark Seaman to go over what we needed and to get a rough cost estimate. Mark said he would send someone out to look at our doors and send us a bid. We told him we wanted to be home when they came because the patio door to be replaced is off of our block paneled den, and we wanted to show them the door from the inside. We were clear with Mark that we would be replacing that wood door with another wood door. We also wanted to open the other doors for them so they could look at the weatherstripping, etc. Well, someone did come to our home but they came when we were NOT home. Therefore, when we received our bid, not only was it incomplete --- it was incorrect. It was for a fiberglass patio door instead of wood. We talked to Mark and told him the bid was wrong, and again told him we needed someone to come out when we were home so we could be here to go over things with them. On 9/12/14, Tim Jadloski, the field manager, came to our home and we showed him all the doors and discussed what we needed. He took notes. He was here for an hour or so. During that time we asked a number of questions. Tim answered them all and seemed very knowledgeable. Toward the end of the visit, we were discussing our double front door. The doors were totally rotten across the bottom. We do not have the proper amount of overhang to qualify for a product warranty on new doors, which were going to cost a minimum of $3300, and because of that we were very concerned with the quality of the doors we would purchase. Hoelscher's doors are made of meranti. They call it mahogany (as do most other door vendors), but per our research, meranti is not true mahogany. Therefore it doesn't have the same properties as genuine mahogany. We mentioned this fact along with the fact that we had spent a lot of time researching doors because of the aforementioned 'overhang' issues. This is when Tim's demeanor changed. He went from being congenial to seemingly quite irritated in a matter of seconds. He said he doesn't have time to do research and that he did not know that meranti wasn't a true mahogany. Then he said in the same tone, "Sometimes you don't want to know what's in the burrito". He seemed to get even more annoyed when we asked if Hoelscher had a warranty on the installation. They do --- one year. He went on to say in a rude tone to just check and see if anyone else gives a longer warranty than that. We had already talked to other door vendors and knew that one year is the norm so we were totally satisfied with that term. No matter, Tim's rudeness was totally uncalled for. He then left, and it seemed he was anxious to do so. At the time of his visit, we had been debating between using Hoelscher and one other door company. Despite Tim's agitated demeanor toward the end of our visit, we decided, based on his knowledge and the answers to our questions, to use Hoelscher. After he left, we called to tell him that. He then sent us this text. "I have decided to save us all an undue amount of frustration by not bidding on your project. My experience tells me our product and installation will not likely produce the result you're looking for. I wish you all the best in completing your project." We were floored. We had invested a lot of time in researching doors and door vendors and felt very comfortable with our decision to use Hoelscher. We called and texted Tim several times to get an answer as to why he responded in that way but he ignored all our attempts to reach him. Extremely unprofessional. If they don't want our business, they should at least tell us why. We went back to Hoelscher to see Mark Seaman to try to get an explanation. While we were there, we went back over our needs with him and again explained that we wanted a wood patio door and not fiberglass. Mark insisted we had asked for fiberglass in the beginning. Totally untrue. He did say he would get with Tim and Mr. Hoelscher himself about our bid (or lack thereof) though. We then received an email from Mark almost verbatim to what Tim had said. There was no explanation --- just that canned response which told us nothing, and is actually cowardly in our opinion. Because they would not tell us why they didn't want our business, we can only assume it was because Tim didn't like our questions about quality and the installation warranty and/or he didn't like the fact that we knew that meranti isn't genuine mahogany and he didn't. I guess Hoelscher prefers their buyers to be uneducated about door quality, true mahogany, etc. Well, in the end, we bought a Hoelscher double door unit anyway --- from another vendor --- and we are quite happy with it. Tim and Mark were wrong! In closing, let me say that if Tim and Mark really believe their product and installation will not produce the result a customer is looking for, they probably should find employment elsewhere. It seems they don't have much faith in their company. Of course, we don't believe that's the reason they wouldn't bid on our project. We believe it was because Tim somehow got offended by something we asked or said. Here's the bottom line. Our experience with Hoelscher runs the gamut from them initially being totally unresponsive to phone calls, to then attempting to be helpful but sending an incorrect bid (Mark), to then being rude, unresponsive and unprofessional (Tim and Mark). Because of this, we would never recommend them to ANYone!
Description of Work: They came to our house to discuss what was needed, but did no actual work. We were going to purchase a double front door and a single patio (french) door, including installation, from Hoelscher.. We were also going to have them replace the weatherstripping and thresholds on several other doors.

This company apparently has a problem following up with their customers and keeping them updated on progress. I was looking to have my entry door replaced and was able to speak with Mark. We had a great conversation and I was sold on wanting to purchase a door from them. I was told a technician would contact me and eventually he did after I made several calls to Mark and left a message each time. After the technician visited, they never followed up with a quotation nor contacted me even though they had my email and phone number. What a shame!

There aren't many details to offer, with the exception of getting stood up on the day of the job, and only learning that after making multiple phone calls into their office. Agreed time of job was 1:30pm, so I took a half day off of work. Heard nothing all day. Not a phone call or text or email regarding status. I started calling their office at 4:00pm and got only clueless responses. No further communication until I called again at 4:30pm and got put on hold for 10 minutes, which resulted in flimsy excuses and a very polite but hilarious "can we reschedule?" Uh, that would be NO. Any company that takes its customers' time so lightly and with so little consideration, not only deserves F's across the board on Angie's List but also doesn't get my business. They shouldn't get yours, either.

Still nothing from these guys. I want to give them my money but they are not interested. WOW.
Description of Work: We called to schedule a quote to replace 6 exterior thresholds and weatherstripping. The lady answering the phones was very nice and said that a technician would call us back to schedule a visit. We didn't hear anything for a day so we called to be told they were really busy but would for sure call us. Two additional days pass and we call again to be told the exact same story...the technicians were really busy and that we were in que to be called.

They did a great job and we were extremely pleased! We have recommended them to others and would definitely do so again.
Description of Work: New hardwood floors were installed over existing floors. Several doors had to be shortened. Hoelscher cut down the doors, weatherstripped the front and back doors and suggested the installation of bolts for the back French doors that increased the security of the doors.

We had considerable issues with cold air leaking in the house from 4 doors that didn't close well, had gaps in the weatherstripping or weren't centered in their openings. Hoelscher sent someone out to diagnose the issues and prepare an estimate which was emailed to us. We accepted the estimate and scheduled the repairs which were done very skillfully by their very professional technician. We would have given them an and quot;A+and quot;, but they did not come the day they were scheduled and did not call to let us know that they weren't going to make it.

This service went great. They company sent two technicians, one of whom has been with the company for about 19 years. They were in and out in about an hour and a half. The company previously re-weatherstripped 7 exterior doors for me in 1980.

Everything went well! The provider was on time (actually 30 minutes early) and remained focused on the task. My front door weatherstripping was in horrible condition! Bugs and small creatures often found themselves sliding in through the front door. Now the door is air tight and functions without and problem. The provider was great at explaining the problem, how to correct the problem, and asking if I would like to proceed with work. He was finished within 35 minutes!

I made an appointment because our door was not properly aligned and there were gaps allowing outside air to come in. The rep showed up on time, looked at the door, and brought samples of new thresholds. A few days later, the installer came by, and installed the sweep, threshold, and brass weatherstripping. Everyone was professional and I am pleased with the result.

I called Hoelscher to have them come out to a rental house I own to give me an estimate to repair the front wood door which had a 2/3 oval glass inset loose and coming out of the door. They scheduled my appointment quickly (a 2 hour window a few days later) and were supposed to call me 30 minutes prior to coming so I could meet them at the site. They ended up not calling ahead of time, but my tenant was home and let them in. When I called the office at the end of the 2 hour window to see where their guy was, they were courteous and said they would figure it out for me. I received a return call saying that they had been to the site and repaired the door even though I never received an estimate nor authorized the work. I told them that I was concerned this happened and they were supposed to call me back the next morning to tell me the cost of the repair. The next morning I received a call from a manager who apologized for their worker repairing the door without authorization and he told me that there would be no charge for the repair. Hoelscher went above and beyond in not charging me for this repair (which looks great) and fully accepted responsibility. It is hard to find a contractor that accepts responsibility nowadays. I would highly recommend using Hoelscher for wood door repairs and for the installation of new wood doors. I had called them to repair the door because I had hired them over 14 years ago to install the door in the first place.

My husband and I were initially referred to Hoelscher from a flooring company who told us that Hoelscher had the best prices and quality of doors in town. We went to their showroom to look at the craftsman doors and a salesman named Mark Seaman met with us. Mark took down our information and said that someone would be calling us in the next couple days to set up a time for them to come to measure. A week passed without a call. I therefore called the showroom and was sent to Mark's voicemail. As I was leaving my message, the voicemail cut off. I called back, giving the receptionist my name and number and asked her to have Mark call me. Another week passed. Almost ready to give up, I emailed Mark, explaining my previous attempts to contact him, and asked that he call me immediately. I even stated that I wanted to give him an opportunity to remedy the situation before I went on Angies List and reviewed the company (thinking that would get his attention). However, it was still another 2 days before I got a call from him. Mark told me that he had lost our paperwork but that he could get someone out to measure immediately. I decided to give them another chance. A guy named Tim came out a day or two later to measure the door. Tim was great - really professional and knowledgable. He answered all of our questions and I really appreciated that he didn't try to upsell us on things we didn't need. For instance, he told us he thought we could re-use our current jam, just install aand quot; tuff strikeand quot; into the jam, which would help with protection in the event of a break-in. He suggested we go back to the showroom to pick our our door and pick a stain color and the style of glass we wanted. After dealing with Tim, my faith in Hoelscher was restored, so we went into the showroom that same day. The showroom was empty but we were told that a salesman would come speak with us shortly. After walking around the showroom for 20 minutes (almost ready to leave) someone finally did come help us. We met with Roger Drum, who was very helpful. We picked out our door and Roger said that someone would contact us to set up the install date, but that we could likely get it installed the following week. However, 5-6 days passed and I hadn't heard from anyone so I finally called the office. I left a message and then got an email saying that the glass for the door had come in damaged, and that it would be another week to reorder the glass. Because we were trying to get the door installed by a certain date (before our home appraisal), I called to see if there was any way to get it installed earlier. The woman said that she would keep tabs on our order and as soon as the glass arrived, she would call us immediately to set up an earlier install date. Again, no word. Five days later, I emailed her to check up on the glass. I got a reply saying that she would check and get back to me ASAP. She then called my husband and set up a 2:00 pm installation for the folloiwng day. Almost immediately I got a separate call from her asking to change the appointment she had just made with my husband, for earlier in the day. She said that 2:00 pm was too late, because the install could take as many as 3-4 hours, and the installers didn't want to work that late into the day! The next day, the installer came on time and really did a great job installing the door. He made sure that the threshhold was placed high enough so that the door cleared the rug in the entry way, which I really appreciated. When I mentioned the tuff strike, however, he said that it wasn't on his order and he didn't have one with him. We figured out that the tuff strike never made it onto his order form, despite my conversation with Tim about installing one. (Turns out their communication issues are internal as well as external!) The installer told us that we could always call back into the office and schedule the tuff strike install for a later date. Long story short, the door is absolutely beautiful and for a solid wood maghoney door, it was just under $1000 - less expensive than many fiberglass craftsman doors at home depot or lowes, which don't look nearly as beautiful as the solid wood. Plus, we were able to get the tempered glass and stain just the way we wanted. The value and quality of the doors at Hoelscher's is therefore outstanding. The mesaurement and install guys are really great, too. The customer service in their office, however, really sucks.

When we first requested Hoelscher's services in January 2006, they were very professional and responded quickly with estimates. We called Hoelscher because they were highly recommended for their quality of products and service. But, the doors we had installed did not even last four years. And, the previous doors were the original doors installed when the home was built in 1978. In September, 2010, we called Hoelscher back to see what repairs could be done. Yes, Hoelscher came out to look at the doors and seemed surprised the doors were not lasting. Yes, we thought we were taking care of the doors as properly as would be expected. Even other home repair services have been surprised the doors are less than five years old. The refinishing door man said the quality of finish on the door was very poor. Since requesting another new door, Hoelscher has had to be prompted by me for information or updates. It has been more than six weeks since we started the efforts to repair our doors using Hoelscher. On October 20, in reply to my "what's up?" email, I was told the doors had been ordered and they were waiting. Now it is November 12 and I have sent another e-mail to Hoelscher asking for an update. Am I expecting too much from a service company?

The estimator took measurements and photos. A written estimate was sent to me and the only change I made was upgrading to the blinds within the doors. They were able to schedule installation within a week of my approving the estimate and gave me a choice of days and times. The installer called about an hour before his scheduled time to tell me he was in route. The job went fast, removing the old doors, tearing out all the old framing, cleaning up all the floor and sills so no debris was left under the new frame or door parts, and cleaning up when he left. This was not a ' door unit', but custom built framing on site so the doors would fit. There was a very slight mismatch of the old interior trim, but due more to the original builder not making anything plumb than what the installer did. I actually was surprised that the interior trim was removed and replaced and wasn't damaged. It is so nice to have doors that don't bind, and that fit.
Description of Work: The original house patio/atrium doors (one fixed, one opening) were sticking, the bottom of the door had some rotting, the outside framing was rotting 6" up from the bottom and the center frame was warped. The edges leaked air. I tried to get an all-in-one framed unit from Home Depot, but even with custom ordering, they could not find doors or a door unit to fit the opening. Plus the best price they could give me was $3500 if it could be done. Hoelscher measured first and then gave me an estimate to replace the doors, the door frame, a new sill, and exterior framing. I opted for doors with blinds between the glass rather than re-use my blinds and am so glad I chose that. Re-installing the doorknobs and deadbolts was included, so I purchased new hardware to be installed.

Great! Donnie came out on time, looked at both doors, said it would be $95 per door and I said "do it!" He ripped out the old copper insulation and stapled in new copper. He then cleaned the door jam with alcohol before placing a foam type of insulation to supplement the copper. He also replaced copper insulation on the bottom of each door and most importantly, adjusted both doors. I did not realize the doors could be adjusted... meaning he moved the doors slightly (by adjusting how it was hinged) to close any gap between the door and frame. He also adjusted the dead bolt locks so we no longer have to firmly push on the door to lock it. Now we just close the doors, turn the key and the dead bolt engages; also there is no longer any drafts or light coming in the doors. Donnie did a nice job and I could tell he was experienced at what he was doing.
Description of Work: My front & back door copper insulation was totally worn and cracked letting in a slight draft and light. It was a waste of energy as I was letting cold air in ... in the winter and hot air in the summer. I thought about trying to do it myself but I could not find copper insulation (neither HD or Lowe's had it when I was looking) and I also thought it might be a little tricky to cut and place the insulation around the locks and security buttons ... had I been able to find copper. While at the Houston Home & Garden show in February, I ask a radio broadcaster with an energy show if he knew of anyone that did door insulation? Hoelscher was one that he recommended. They were a good choice.

Hoelscher Weatherstrip Mfg. were recommended to me as one of the only places in Houston who could install custom builder style thresholds. They were very professional. First coming out to measure, and determine what materials might be required for the job, and then returning for a second appointment to perform the work (with extra material, just in case something unforeseen was encountered). I would definitely recommend them to anyone needing a new threshold installed.
Description of Work: Installed custom threshold to replace pre-hung door threshold.
