HER REMODELING

HER Remodeling was excellent overall, responsive, punctual, fast, agile, and provided high quality products and service. I was referred to HER Remodeling by my real estate agent. Jaime Hernandez, the owner, estimator, sales coordinator, arrived promptly for the estimate and planning discussion. He was right on time or early for every appointment. He was responsive to emails and phone calls 7 days per week and prepared estimates and invoices and coordinated quickly with his materials supplier and tile sub-contractor. We worked with Jaime for several weeks to go through our plans. He met us at the house in the evenings to review our plans, discuss materials, review materials and he made several trips back and forth to his suppliers to get materials to show us. Jaime pointed us to several show rooms around town to look at flooring products. This was very helpful and much more helpful than a commerical home do-it-yourself shop. We had to share with the showrooms that he was our contractor (he had a membership) to gain entry. He was agile in the fact that we changed our design at the last minute to wood in living, dining, family, and master bedroom and porcelain tile in the entry, foyer, half bath, laundry, hallway, and kitchen. We asked Jaime if he could find the same porcelain tile that was installed in the master bathroom about 6 yrs eralier during a previous homeowner's remodel. He was on the phone to his material supplier and located a batch of the same material. We acted upon that find, he purchased it and had it delivered to the house within a few days. He worked well with his supplier. HER started on a Thursday after meeting me at the house. He proceeded to rip out the carpet and started to pull up the 16 yr old glue down wood floor. Within two days he had the flooring remvoed, glue scraped up and began float leveling throughout. The tile work was sub-contracted to a crew from ClemFloors. HER remodeling superintedent was present for all work that the tile sub-contractor performed. The tile work took about 2-3 days. The crew worked Saturday, but not Sunday. In one Saturday 8am-6pm, they had all 650sq ft of tile laid. They returned on Monday to finish the grout and minor finishing pieces. There was a tile that was not laid level along the entryway and created a raised corner that did not look or feel right when walking over it. Jaime had the crew return, they knocked out the old tile and replaced it with matching grout. I also pointed out to him an edge tile that did not look right. He had them fix it as well. They finished the transition to the base boards neatly with white painted 3/4" trim and painted the base boards to match. HER Remodeling installs the wood floors themselves. Jaime's older brohter Carlos isntalls the wood floors. It took them about 4 days to install the 1200sqft of wood flooring. They finished the base board transition with nicley stained and varnished 3/4" round trim. Looks neat and professional. There was a lot of tedious woodwork around the entertainment unit in the family room that turned out really nice. They even stained and varnished the new threshholds to match the floors nad accompanying trim. There were a few areas of wood floors that were not successfully glued down and would pop as we walked over them. I notified Jaime of this and he arranged a visit with his brother Carlos who laid the wood floors. They walked all the areas with me and understood the problem and knew how to fix it. They came back several days to drill a 1/16" hole inthe floor joint, inject a milky consistency glue into the void and cleaned up the joint. Within hours the problem was solved and there were no visible signs to the penetration or glue. Because the house was empty (we just closed days earlier), we chose to give Jaime a key for access to the house. He always had himself, his brother, or another member of his crew at the house when work was going on. Jaime was trustworthy in all regards. I would use him again.

The whole project went very well. I've never undertaken a remodeling project before, so was a bit worried that it would be messy, overly expensive, etc. Jaime and Aaron did a great job. They kept me informed during the process (I think I talked to Aaron at least once per day for a month!), did a very good job of cleaning up after themselves, and were helpful in guiding me thru the process. They even pointed me to great, inexpensive sources for tile, countertop, etc. Where I had questions or wanted something changed, they were responsive and accommodating. With their help, I've learned some lessons about remodeling and the master bath will be the next project.
