I called the company and the person answering the phone put me on a 3 way call with the fence installer so we could schedule an appointment. The installer arrived on time for an estimate. We decided to hire the installer because the price seemed reasonable. On the day of installation, the installer arrived late and cited traffic problems. He did not have the fence boards with him because he said he didn't know how many he needed so he left at least twice during the day to get supplies (without announcing he was leaving). He borrowed the garden hose because he said he needed water to mix concrete for the fence posts. 2 hours into the project, I walked outside and noticed water was pouring into our pool and the water level had reached the top edge of the pool. When I asked the installer if he turned the pool water on he said yes, that he thought he needed to get water by opening the lever. I turned the lever off myself. He worked, minus leaving a couple of times, from about 9:30 until 4:30. He had me look at the work by the driveway. I said we had a blind dog and that I couldn't have all the nails and screws sticking out for fear the dog would poke an eye out. I pointed out to him those I could see. As he was hammering the ends down, I was sweeping up nails and screws he had dropped in our driveway. He was ready to leave (he didn't take any of the debris) and I asked him if he still had the garden hose. He said he forgot to bring it back. I handed him a credit card for payment and he announced a 4% credit card processing fee. It would have been nice to have been told that up front. The initial estimate was $425.00 plus materials and we had a coupon for $50.00 off work $250 or more. The materials were in excess of $100.00. I noticed he only deducted $25.00 and he said he only charged a 2% credit card processing fee and it all washed out. As he was leaving, I found a nail sticking out 2" on the driveway side and pounded it in with a hammer so that no one would get hurt. The next day, during daylight, dozens of nails/screws were found sticking out. I covered them with duct tape to protect pets and people and called the installer. I surveyed the work he had done around the pool equipment and found a mess. He had left a post covered in concrete and other wood. The neighbor approached me and said he had to clean up a mess in his drive after the installer left. I called the main number of Handy Harry to complain about the nails/screws and the $50.00 coupon and the man was very rude. We finally agreed on a final amount and he followed up with an e-mail saying they were waving the 25% materials handling fee (first I had heard of it) and that the installer would fix the five nails and a screw. In reality, it was more like 25 nails and 25 screws. The installer came back to my home without scheduling a time in advance. He pounded nails down and backed some of the screws all of the way out, which in some cases, left only 1 screw holding the board to the post. As a result, the boards are already bowing. The gate had an X made of wood for support. The installer left one of the boards totally off and I had to provide lumber so he could fix it. He said he had left the evening before in a hurry so he could beat the traffic. I would never recommend this company.
Description of Work: Wooden fence surrounding pool equipment was leaning and needed repaired. Additionally, the wooden fence with a gate by our driveway was in need of new boards.

They did a great job on building the fence and the price included materials and labor. When one of the hinges came loose 6 months later, they came out immediately and fixed it at no charge.
Description of Work: I had them build a wood fence enclosure for my pool equipment.

The contractor agreed to a work list by email but didn't bring an official contract with him on the first day of work. First day was good, second and third were disasters as work quality declined precipitously. First day helper was gone and new helpers were inexperienced. Main worker disappeared frequently, came later than promised, and left early. Last day he did not give me time to read the invoice or review the final work product, insisting he was in a hurry and was late getting somewhere and that I needed to write the check for $1850 immediately. He said if there were any touch ups needing done, he would come back to do them right away--just call his cell phone number. After he left, I found many things undone or not done well. I called him about it and he came several days later and said he didn't see that there was a problem with 95% of my list of things to do over. He agreed to come back to do only a couple of things. He never came back and his cell phone was disconnected. Handy Harry said they had a guarantee on the work. When I called them, they said by signing the final invoice that I relinquished them from honoring their guarantee. I said I hadn't signed it. When I looked at it again, a signature was on the line for the release but it was not my signature!! I called Handy Harry back and they said if the worker signed my name that was not their problem. I called the police to make a forgery complaint, which I did, and was given the option to file a small claims court report. Clearly, no one should do business with this firm. They falsely advertise a guarantee and do not honor it. The work was never completed and I had to pay another contractor to finish it (another $575). The second contractor was amazed at the quality of the work and the unprofessionalism of the first contractor. As a senior citizen I think I was scammed and intimidated by this unscrupulous firm.
Description of Work: Ready house for sale, including some painting, sheetrock repair, install vinyl flooring, remove wallpaper, install quarterround, caulking, etc.

Response from Handy Harry
This client holds a Ph.D. but presents herself as a "scammed and intimidated senior citizen" She claims to have "MISSED" that ONE THIRD ($575 out of $1800) of the job was supposedly “not done”. If a THIRD of her job really was not done, she could have: 1 Not given us a check. 2 Stopped her check if her allegations were justifiable. 3 Actually filed her signature fraud charge against the craftsman. 4 Settled to let us do warranty work as defined on the contract. Instead she bullies with a report on Angie's List to twist extra work out of the deal. Our terms of business are very clear and are specifically aimed at protecting the client. Our contract is posted on our website so that a client never have to sign anything under pressure. Our contract does not even have fine print. Our client had the best terms you could ask for: Only PAY at COMPLETION Only sign that it is done - once it is actually done and you are happy. Can you really fail to notice if a third of a job is not done?

I called the company on the evening of June 15th and left a message detailing work I needed done to my toilet. I received a return call from company early the following morning and verified with them that my message was correct. I also added an additional item (fix broken stair mounts) for service. The dispatcher told me that addition would be fine and that she could have a representative over to my home at 1pm that day, and gave me his name (Dillan). The serviceman actually finished his previous job ahead of schedule and called me to see if he could come by earlier. I was out running errands at the time of his call but he did call me again to see if I had returned home. I advised that I was there and that he could come over. Upon arrival, he introduced himself and I showed him exactly what I needed to have done. I already had all of the parts needed for both jobs. He then called his dispatch and advised me of the quote to complete the work. I agreed with the amount and gave the go ahead to get started. I signed the paperwork authorizing him to start work and advised that I had a coupon as well. He advised me that the work should take approximately 1 1/2 to 2 hours to complete. He tackled the toilet first as it was the priority job and did an excellent job of removing the old base, cleaning up the water that spilled out, and made sure that the area was ready for the new toilet to be installed. Upon completion, he tidied the area up after himself, washed his hands and went to his truck to get the tools needed to work on the stair well. He finished that job in a timely manner. Upon completion, I verified that all work was done to my satisfaction, signed off on the paperwork and submitted payment for the services. Dillan completed both jobs within an hour of being in my home. After Dillan left, I called back to the company to advise them that I was thoroughly pleased with their service and Dillan's work ethic. The owner was happy to hear that I had a positive experience and thanked me for the feedback.
Description of Work: Remove old toilet base in bathroom and then install new toilet unit. Also to replace broken rail mounts on the stair well.
