Great American Moving and Storage

1.5 days late for the full pack; did not bring enough supplies to pack and bubble wrap everything - we had to go to Walmart at midnight to get more; threw things in boxes without wrapping when we weren't watching; overpacked book boxes; doubled the moving and packing prices while we they were packing because the contents were far more than estimated by an over-the-phone interview; required all but $750 paid up front; the furniture movers seemed pretty good at padding and moving, but the packing job was unacceptable. We received the items in both states with less breakage than feared, but two broken tables, two lamps broken so far, and an expensive desk chair that was delivered duct taped together so we wouldn't notice the breakage. We learned that we paid as much as if we had gone with a big experienced moving company such as Mayflower, Allied or Atlas, but got third rate service and care. In retrospect, we shouldn't have expected to save money by going with an smaller name mover. They would only be reliable for an across town, pre packed move in our opinion - maybe. PS. The mover lost the truck keys, so when they finished packing at 1:30 a.m. they couldn't leave. The "boss" was angry and wouldn't come with another set of keys so we had to call a cab at 2:30 a.m. to take the driver to the boss's house for another set of truck keys so they could drive the truck to their warehouse. And - these guys were expected back on another job at 8:00 a.m. Wonder how well they packed the next move on 3 hours of sleep.
