Very well. Technicians performed work efficiently. Outdated equipment was removed. No damage to home during work. Clean up was outstanding. Sales department handled all paperwork and set up the rebates for me. The only negative was approximately 10 months after the initial installation a thermostat went bad. It took two technicians and several days along with numerous phone calls to correct the problem.

This company is only attentive to commercial clients. If you are a residential client, they will make you wait in the heat. First off, they made me wait in a hot and humid house for over a week and a half before they showed up for the install. They said they were busy with commercial clients in the area. They showed up early on the day of the install, but when it got late their supervisor was rushing them to get done and out. It was a pretty sloppy install with lots of air leakage I had to tape up, a duct for me to redo, and the original baffles rearranged so as no longer to be effective (another redo for me). Worst of all, the entire unit was installed at a slant. I didn't realize until just recently that this causes about 1-1/2" of condensation to pool on the low side of the pan and not drain since the drain is in the middle of the pan. I did notice that the compressor would occasionally cycle from noisy to quiet, but I was cool, so I never called about it. Now, 13 months later, I came home one afternoon and hear a very loud noise coming from the compressor, so I wait and listen. In no time it completely shuts off, leaving the outside fan blowing. Inside, it's hot and humid and the attic blower is still running. I couldn't get the AC to stay on for more than 10 minutes before the compressor would become noisy and shut off, so I turned off the whole thing and call them up. They say they might be able to send a tech the next day because they are working 2 commercial jobs in the area. The next day, the tech shows up, hooked up his gauge to the low side and looks surprised as he says there is too much pressure in the system. He hooks up his gauge to the high side and it quickly starts ramping up and down in cycles, until it becomes so high that the compressor shuts off. He diagnosed a bad TXV (Thermal Expansion Valve), calling it a factory defect. He says he doesn't have the part and they will have to come out the next day. By noon, no one had called, so I called them. I'm told they have the part, they might be able to get some over that day, and to expect a call shortly, quoting me $480 labor since the labor warranty ran out after 12 months. No one called, so eventually I call them again. This time, I'm told someone will be out first thing in the morning on Saturday. Later, I get another call saying no one can come until possibly Tuesday because weekends and Mondays are "reserved for emergencies." I asked, "And, this isn't an emergency?" (3rd day of no AC) The reply, "No. That would be like a walk-in freezer." That says it all. If you are a high dollar commercial client, they attend to you immediately. If you are a residential client, they will get around to you when they have time between commercial jobs. They have no problems making residential clients wait for over a week in a hot and humid house. HERE'S THE WORST PART. On my 3rd day with no AC, after being told it would be another4 days before they would come, I decided to call another company. I told him it was probably a bad TXV and he quoted me over $100 less to fix it, if that turned out to be the problem. He shows up in 30 minutes, sees there is too much pressure on the low side and says that may cause the TXV to shut off. The high side starts ramping as before. He lets out some refrigerant to bring the low side down and the high side stops ramping. No more problem. The unit stays on and 2 days later, my house is still cool and dry. The new guy didn't even charge me. Now, I wonder if the Golden Rule crew had intentionally overcharged my system to set up an eventual failure. The tech who came out did say it was over-pressurized, but never let any refrigerant out. When I asked him about it later, he claimed that wasn't what he said. None the less, they were going to make me wait for at least a week in the heat and charge me $480 to fix something that didn't need fixing. Not to mention the sloppy initial install. I DO NOT recommend this company for residential work.
Description of Work: Installed full heating & AC unit (except ducts) April 2015. Came back for diagnosis and supposed repair 13 months after system failed.

They had replaced 1 AC unit prior to this visit. Brought them back for replacement of the whole HVAC System for first floor and to redo the duct work which was laying on the floor of the attic. They came out one day for estimate and scheduled work to be completed in next 48-72 hours. The work took 2 days - they were prompt and thorough and did great work.

They were great. We've been having them do work for us since 2009 or 2010 in 2 houses. We were networked into them. A friend actually knew the owner so that was how we made the connection. They always stay behind their work and they would go out of their way to deal with a crisis we have even though they have a full schedule. They make a way to make it work for us. I exclusively trust their work. I haven't had any issue at all with them. With the whole premise of how they set up their business, there is a lot more to it than just being in business and the business owner mentors a lot of young people in the trade and stuff. I know people who vouch for their character that's why I do business with them.
Description of Work: Golden Rule Air Conditioning & Heating had done all of our servicing and installed new stuff when we had a major failure.

It was fantastic. The fact that they took care of our issue. We had a little misunderstanding as far as the billing went but that was ironed up quickly. Overall, the satisfaction with them was excellent. To really emphasize how much Golden Rule cares about their customers, the technicians weren't available so the actual owner came out and did repair it himself the day before he was leaving on vacation. In this day and age, you find courtesy to be very rare and he was very courteous and very helpful. He contacted me directly and said that he was going to take care of it. He actually got us I believe a higher quality unit at the same cost as a replacement. I have no reason to go anywhere else.

I had been with same Ac man for 25 years, but he is retired now. I used Golden Rule based on suggestion of friend. Two young men showed up, very quiet, very professional. Job done fast, explained to us. Will use again.

We trust them so much, we called them when my mom needed work. Her a/c was out and they ensured her they would not leave until the job was done and they stayed true to their word. Very trustworthy, respectful and professional.

Golden Rule performed our A/C tune up in the spring. Our A/C broke down on Sept 4. Called to have it repaired and they could not send anyone for 24 hours. Not satisfactory. Surely an existing customer could get better responsiveness. We got someone else who was there in less than 3 hours.

Had several estimates and they were the best price. Replaced 15 year old system with a high efficiency two stage air conditioner and new heater and evaporator coil. They started early in the morning and were finished by late afternoon. They were careful not to track in dirt (muddy day) and cleaned up after installation. Never would have known they were here. System was balanced as part of the install. Each register was checked individually. And the whole system comes with a 10 year part AND labor warranty. Only had occasion to use heat a few times before A/C season hit. Worked just fine. The two stage A/C system is wonderful. Relatively quiet and very pleased with cooling ability. Much less expensive to run than previous system and keeps house cooler and much less humid. Most times you don't even realize the A/C is running. Would I hire them again? Absolutely!.

The amount we spent included signing up for their annual maintenance plan for both furnaces and air conditioners so they will be back in the spring to service the air conditioners for the summer. So far we are very happy with their work. We gave the price a B just because nothing is ever as inexpensive as we would hope, but overall it seems quite reasonable.
Description of Work: Second floor furnace stopped working so we called to have it fixed. Technician arrived as scheduled (they said it would be afternoon and he arrived at around 2:00). They called about 1/2 hour before he arrived to let us know he was on the way. He diagnosed the problem and had to go get the necessary part. Was back in around 45 minutes to complete the repair.

Golden Rule worked with me to get qualify for a Federal Income tax credit and to quality for the Texas sales tax holiday. They also gave me a credit for paying cash. The work went well and the unit operates well. A week after the unit was installed, Golden Rule called me to say that their distributor had sent them the wrong model of evaporator coil. The one that they installed would work OK, but only specific models (regardless of efficiency) would qualify for the Federal income tax credit. The told me that they had the proper coil and they would replace it without charge. I was impressed that they called me to say there was a problem. The coil that they installed the first time worked well and I would have never known the difference. Golden Rule lives up to their name. I got quotes from three companies with long histories of quality service and Golden Rule beat their prices by two to three thousand dollars. They took time to explain the different options on their bid and they did not try to up-sell me on options that don't improve the operation of the system.

Golden rule not only had a great price but they have the best work ethic of any heating and A/C company I have ever used. So much so that they are doing my commercial work. I can not recommend this company any higher unless i owned it. Call Kym or Jim they are the best.
Description of Work: Needed a new a/c unit for my home. Replaced my 12 year old unit for a brand new super effecienty unit. took them only about 3 hours and it was a complicated switch out.

I had an excellent experience with them. They did not try to sell me anything that I did not need. I felt that they had fair prices for their work. I know that I could have found a company who would have done the installation for less, however I do not think that it would have lived up to the quality. They came out right on time to do the installation, they got the job done quickly, and they cleaned up after themselves.
